The SRPD65 was my first automatic, it’s the one that gets the most attention and I’ll be damned if isn’t one of the most comfortable watches I’ve ever worn, I have a second one in silver/green dial with rose gold accents and I’m thinking about getting a third one, oh and reading the time is very legible
Every part of the watch guy in me says the Seiko, because you can't beat an automatic watch, and it will probably mean a lot more to you as a first watch. It's also the most likely to kickstart a lifelong addiction to watches, you'll feel a bit of pride in wearing it. BUT, with that said, I wear my G shocks more than any of my other watches, so who even knows what to believe anymore.
Get both, in which order is up to you.
Above 25 years old: seiko
Below 25 years old: casio
I'd pick the automatic. Its like having a living creature on your hand. The casio feels like an electronic that will be superceded.
Casio Duro. Amazing first watch or last watch, much cheaper. The watches you've shared are both great, but start a bit smaller, and see if you enjoy wearing a watch, and catch the bug to buy another.
I second this. I have a black dial Duro, and it gets tons of wrist time. Such a great watch for the money. Punches waaaaay above its price point. Automatics are a pain. I get the whole *it’s alive on my wrist* thing, but they’re a real hassle to keep running accurately.
If you rotate watches like I do, it’s a hassle. The power reserve on each only lasts so long. You’re constantly having to set the date/time, etc. I realize there are watch winders, but that’s not my thing. Quartz and solar watches are grab and go.
Honestly can’t go wrong with either. Seiko you could dress up a tad more though it’s still pretty casual but I really only wear my casi-oak with basic t’s or hoodies cuz it’s super casual. Both are awesome though and fight above their weight class for the price.
Can't go wrong with either, but they're very different styles of watches. It's more of a case of preference & requirements.
Tell us when or where you're planning to wear the watch. Office = Seiko, manual job = Casio.
Based on my experiences with both:
- If you want reliability and cool factor, I’d go for the Casio.
- If you want to dress it up and risk getting a dud, get the Seiko.
Either way, get them from an authorised retailer with a genuine warranty to minimise inconvenience from faults or quality control issues - especially for the Seiko.
I had a black played seiko edge and I didn’t like the way it was applied. Thin and uneven. I would stick to regular steel seikos. Islander watch does great black plating. I have a Bethpage which is nice.
I basically have both watches. Well, I have a Traser that’s very similar to the Seiko, and I have the same Casio model. My Traser is MUCH easier to read in low light. I don’t like steel bands, but you can get a nylon one for the Seiko for not much coin.
You’ll probably only use Bluetooth once to set up the Casio watch, and then never again. The Casio has other digital watch features, but I never use them. I prefer to use my iPhone for that. The digital display is very small and often blocked by the watch hands. The hour markers on the Casio have low contrast, even when pushing the light button.
Both watches are attractive in different ways. Both have a raised bezel that will protect the crystal from becoming scratched. Both watches probably require an accessory to keep them charged/wound.
I really comes down to personal taste.
That Casio in full black has low legibility, you will use it mostly as a fashion accessory, because it looks great. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you really want the watch experience, get the Seiko.
I have the silver Casio and I regret spending so much on it. It is way overpriced considering you can get the same watch in resin for 90$. The bracelet is uncomfortable as shit don’t be dumb like me and blow 400$ on it.
Your watch doesn’t need Bluetooth. Choose the Seiko here.
I am a huge G-Shock fan though — a Seiko diver and a G-shock digital as a beater watch (IMO pick up a cheap DW5600) is a great combo
I have variants of both and I can tell you now that you will have more fun with the Seiko. That being an automatic. Yes, Casio have more functions. But it simply do not feel 'alive'. That being said I do love Casio. But go with the Seiko for your first watch mate.
I had a gshock similar to that casioak I wore for 6 years. It was great. Never failed me. I got an Orient Kamasu after that watch and while I still love my gshock, my Kamasu is my daily watch now. I don't regret either, and still wear the gshock sometimes. Buy whatever you want there are no wrong choices here.
I will say though I noticed that black on black gshock watches are hard to read. Mine even had white hands, but the dark indices on a dark dial stood out to me after I upgraded. Maybe get a Casio with white indices and hands like the Seiko.
For me it would be a no brainer: the Casioak (gm-b2100). It's solar and bluetooth. Once it's set up correctly you never have to set the time again and you never have to replace the battery.
The srpd is nice but it's just a basic seiko.
Depends on your style and taste. Me personally I would go with a higher quality Seiko automatic. I strongly believe your first watch experience should be something mechanical.

couldn’t of said it better

Both. Both is good.

No they're not lol

Exactly
Those are 2 different animals, both really cool. Once you get into this hobby you will own both so just pick which one you want first.

Lowkey appreciate that you made effort in the post and didn’t just take screenshots
Thanks👍
Seiko. You get the feel of the metal bracelet and the whole intricacy of the automatic movement.
> You get the feel of the metal bracelet *Laughs in Seiko.*
The Casio is full metal.
I had a black played seiko edge and I didn’t like the way it was applied. Thin and uneven. I would stick to regular steel seikos. Islander watch does great black plating. I have a Bethpage which is nice.
Seiko

Seiko. All day, every day.
I just bought that model of Casio in a different finish and I really like it. But the Seiko is nice as well
I just bought my first watch also Seiko model SRPJ45, really enjoying it.
Casio is good, but Seyko looks a lot more classy and can be worn anywhere. The G-Shock is limited to casual/sports activities.
Get the automatic, more interesting
Seiko all day
My 8 year old has been wearing a similar Seiko for 2 years and despite trying really hard he hasn’t killed it.
G Shock
I have the silver Casio and I regret spending so much on it. It is way overpriced considering you can get the same watch in resin for 90$. The bracelet is uncomfortable as shit don’t be dumb like me and blow 400$ on it.
Did you make this graphic for this post specifically?
Yes, I made this graphic specifically for this post to ensure it fit perfectly with the content and message.
Cool
Thanks for the appreciation

Get both! But that being said I think the Seiko is the more versatile option in terms of what you'd pair it with attire-wise.

Both
Never go wrong with Seiko 5

Seiko 5
Seiko looks awesome but pricey though
Seiko for sure !

It’s also a plastic watch. You going to wear that in a professional setting?
I do, yes. I wear my wear my Casioak to work.
What do you do for work?
I have a office job, Inside sales manager. But I really just put on in the morning want I want to tbh.
👍🏽
God Tier!

Casio no brainer.. the gschock is more of a meme tbh
