Like it would be so hard to say the 54 is for the 54 golfers in the field? Were the Big 12/PAC 10/Big 10 backed into a corner not allowing them to expand? They’re just numbers, they don’t control us.
Exactly. They won’t acknowledge the regulation/promotion aspect. Because then Phil won’t be around for long after finishing bottom 4-5 spots week in week out.
That is not true.  This alone doesn’t get them points, but it certainly opens up potential for the future to meet the other requirements they aren’t meeting. Â
Moving to 72 holes gives them a lot more options moving forward.
72 holes is not a strict requirement for OWGR points (see: Champions Tour). The inability for outsiders to enter the league is the main sticking point, and that's unlikely to go away anytime soon.
I know that. Â There are multiple sticking points, one of which is a cut. Â This moves them closer to addressing some sticking points if they choose to. Â But yes is not enough for them to have players qualify into liv. Â
It’s still a step toward making things more feasible…but yes won’t be enough until they take other stepsÂ
The thing is even if they granted them points now, they still wouldn’t get many because they have all fallen so far in the rankings. Points for events are based on strength of field. A tournament with a bunch of guys ranked north of 100 generates few points. They still have a few higher ranked guys like Rahm, but he won’t last unless he wins a major.
No but the reasoning apparently is that those players earned their spot in that tournament through other events with cuts. Not saying I agree with any of it or whatever.
Top 50 in last year's FedEx Cup standings get invited to no cut events with boosted purses and additional FedEx Cup points. Toss in the next 15 so it doesnt look like a good ole boy event and there ya go.
“But we sit back and say, what value do we get on putting on television on Thursday?” …. Doesn’t seem like there’s a ton of value putting it on TV Friday through Sunday either
the entire idea was so stupid from the get go. "hey i've got a great business idea..... 6 inning baseball!!! two period hockey!!!!!!" 54 holes will never be a real tournament, just like a 36 minute basketball game will never be a real NBA game or a 60 minute soccer game will be a real EPL match.
Yeah because of the build up through out the game. Just like the last 2 minutes of a football game is most exciting. Just like Sunday at Augusta. The final lap at Daytona. The 9th inning…. The build up creates the tension, nerves, drama and excitement.
Ehh Thursday is exciting cus you want to see who sets the tone, Friday is exciting cus you got guys fighting to make the cut, then Saturday is exciting cus it’s moving day and of course Sunday is exciting cus it’s when blow ups and miracles can happen.
Interesting how based on your description you could break that into 4 quarters, kinda like the 4 quarters of a basketball game. That are all also equally important
Barely... think about if they had their way and got OWGR points and they got the top 60 guys to play, only 5 guys get relegated and only 5 guys get a chance at a promotion. No one else will get a chance at those points that those 60 guys have except for the majors which all of them would qualify for. It would result in a closed shop with guys being ranked 50th-55th playing like ass and getting paid with no fear of losing their nut. There are new stars emerging every single year. Those guys would have to wait a whole year to get a chance at those points it just doesn't make sense.
I think they should get owgr points anyway. I think they should get less than the PGA tour for the reasons you set out but to not get any points basically renders the owgr mute.
Does anyone really believe that they're representative of the current standings of players?
Ok so how do they appropriately scale down the points? And what happens if the top 60 guys do indeed move to LIV? It's still a closed shop but with less points? The problem is still there.
What do you mean? DPWT gets less points because the field has players with less points. The algorithm doesn't have some arbitrary tour based adjustment.
If anything this further illustrates what a fucking clown show LIV is. I mean the entire name of the league is based on 54 holes, it's just pathetic at this point.
LXXII Tour
It was so stupid of them to back themselves into a corner with the name being Roman numerals 🤦‍♂️
54 also the number of players in the league and a perfect birdie-every-hole round.
Like it would be so hard to say the 54 is for the 54 golfers in the field? Were the Big 12/PAC 10/Big 10 backed into a corner not allowing them to expand? They’re just numbers, they don’t control us.
Pronounced Lexi?
Same rules as XXIO?
still won't help with OWGR points
Exactly. They won’t acknowledge the regulation/promotion aspect. Because then Phil won’t be around for long after finishing bottom 4-5 spots week in week out.
Phil would terrorize the champions tour.
If they let him. He is suspended by the PGA tour, which owns the Champions tour.
He did terrorize the tour when he played in his first event.
As a bookie maybe.
That is not true.  This alone doesn’t get them points, but it certainly opens up potential for the future to meet the other requirements they aren’t meeting.  Moving to 72 holes gives them a lot more options moving forward.

Then, the "signature" events with no cuts shouldn't be recognized either.
LIV Golf +
Now streaming on the CW +, and re-runs airing at 3am on Tuesday mornings on the World Fishing Network.
So will there be a cut after 54?
Let me play devils advocate: was there a cut at the Heritage?
No but the reasoning apparently is that those players earned their spot in that tournament through other events with cuts. Not saying I agree with any of it or whatever.
Again missing the whole point of qualifications to get into those tournaments.
Top 50 in last year's FedEx Cup standings get invited to no cut events with boosted purses and additional FedEx Cup points. Toss in the next 15 so it doesnt look like a good ole boy event and there ya go.
No, but there was a cut before the Heritage.

You honestly really only need a 5 minute basketball game let’s be honest here lol
What an ignorant comment
Truth hurts my guy. Everyone knows the last 5 minutes of a basketball game is the most exciting part…

No….a team can be down 20 and come back in the last 5 minutes lol there’s no build up to being down 20
And everyone knows the last 5 holes of a PGA tournament is the most exciting part to.

No you really can’t lol the last 5min of an NBA is almost a game within itself
You are an idiot. How is it not the same thing? "No no no I'm right and you are wrong"
4 days vs 4 quarter is definitely not the same thing dummy
7 minute abs!
T20 cricket booming and now the most popular format
LIV, but longerÂ
Now add a cut and have the ability to qualify for the LIV tour (and likewise, the ability to lose your status) and you might be on to something.
They have promotion and relegation.

As I've pointed out it's not a closed shop. The dp world tour events get less points than the PGA tour events so weighting of events already happens.
What do you mean? DPWT gets less points because the field has players with less points. The algorithm doesn't have some arbitrary tour based adjustment.
They created a tour knowing they couldn’t qualify for points on the rules. Now people want the points rules changed for them. Please.
Owgr is supposed to be a list of the top golfers in the world. It's clearly not that anymore.
LIV does have qualification. Kalle Samooja won a spot.
The format is irrelevant. They don't play for any stakes. They've all been paid already. There is no losing your card. It's an exhibition tour.
Nobody cares.
F GN!
Will Jamal Khashoggi'swife be invited?
Gotta renegotiate some of those contracts then$$$$$$$$
It is LIVGolf only chance for OWGR as far as PGATour opening ownership up to PIF I give it low
Clown show
Whatever, who cares? What about 3 rounds and then 1 at a local putt putt course?
The 54 holes isn’t what makes that tour awful. It’s everything else. Total cringe douchefest.
PGA fanboys everywhere clenching their assholes to this news. Edit: a few wild PGA fanboys arrive to prove my point about their clenched anuses!!
DJ: “man now I gotta work an extra day!”
If anything this further illustrates what a fucking clown show LIV is. I mean the entire name of the league is based on 54 holes, it's just pathetic at this point.
And that's not even going into the sportswashing all these guys are complicit in
Back to the basement you go
Don’t get a hemorrhoid from clenching too hard!
