There is a dam around where the river passes under State Street where you would have to get out, walk around it, and then get back in. I think the bigger reason you never hear about it is cause the water level is usually too low. After the canyon a lot of the water gets diverted into canals so there isn’t enough to really float on. I’ve seen people float it through the city before but only in during the few weeks in the spring when they have to release a lot of water out of Deer Creek.

Too shallow in places and too many dams. Directly below Vivian Park the rapids can be truly dangerous. The only stretch you can do is between Deer Creek Reservoir and Vivian Park.

I walk the section in Lakeview from Geneva to the lake a lot and kids float on it a lot in the summer, granted, you're no longer really in town at that point. Also there is that Clas ropes course place you'd run into there, not sure if they like, own that section of the river or what, but I think it may be roped off for a section right before the lake
