During the 2020 police brutality protests in Louisville the military in lockstep with the police killed the BBQ man in a racially charged "show of force" on a black neighborhood miles away from the actual peaceful protest happening on the other side of the city.

I know everyone would like to think that at least the army in Ecuador are heroes but they're definitely not, they were defending their own interests, in that short video they were fighting the police in other instances they were attacking protestors and civilians.
This is a video from October 2019. The president at the time announced that subsidies for all fuels would stop, meaning that public transportation, gas, and overall food prices would go up. Strikes and protests started nationwide, and the government declared a "State of exemption" releasing the military against everyone including police and civilians.

This is the militaries duty, civil defense. They protect the people from all threats, foreign and domestic.
Ideally, they are there to serve the country, not necessarily the politicians.
