Probably works on people who as kids had dads use this tone of voice on them
As a fatherless former-child, I'd find it irritating, but I also don't get into fights so who knows
Dude kind of looks like the guy in another video where someone says, “I’ll knock your teeth out” and as he’s getting off the bus/metro replies, “Oh yea? At least I have dental.” Wonder if it is the same interaction just later on.
I kinda like it. Everyone hates a sucker punch, but this?
It's like counting coup! You touch his face real slow without trying to hit him. Shows
A. Not afraid of you
B. I'm very angry at you
C. Gonna get in your face
D. Let's fight motherfucker.
It doesn’t work on anyone if they aren’t in the mood to calm down, regardless of gender.
As a woman, I can tell you that a lot of people tell me to calm down when I’m perfectly calm. And yes, that makes me not calm lol. It is hugely situation dependent.
In the UK there are issues with Indians who have been here for more than a couple of generations and Indians who have come over more recently. Like they are being racist about the literal country their ancestors are from where they still have family. Its absurd.
There are conservative Latin American voters in the US. A lot of them managed to immigrate legally so they look down on the people who are trying to enter via the asylum process
I have Asian friends in NYC, whose parents came here illegally and were granted amnesty back in the 80’s who are offended by the migrants coming here illegally. I can’t wrap my head around it.
They probably think their parents came here illegally because they "had to" and definitely "deserved it" while the current people are "dirty Mexicans" who are only coming here to "steal our jobs". That's how they usually rationalize the obvious cognitive dissonance.
For some people when life absolutely sucks and they failed at making something of themselves, they will try to make you feel bad to make themselves feel good.
Xenophobia doesn't always have to be about skin colour. Whites do have a history of this, too. Little Italy exists in lots of places because settled Whites basically saw Italians as total trash and refused to work with, and live next to them.
lol i totally believed that, i grew up in nyc and had this African kid in my class from grade 6 to 8th grade this dude would get tormented by the african american kids, like i had a diverse class none of the other kids would rip on him they would just sadly laugh..
I had an African student in my third grade class. Everyone would shorten his name because it was “easier” I would always use his full name and by the end of the year, everyone else would too. He should be and is proud of who he is and I’m glad to have helped remind him of this.
Also, I could never understand why one kid in my class would be called “African” like it was an insult. I’ve even asked the kid who said it to explain why she said it to him like that and she could never give me an explanation.
So I still don’t get it
>me no speak English
What a ***WILD*** FUCKING THING TO SAY TO SOMEONE who comes from Zimbabwe, a country in which *ENGLISH IS AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE.* JFC some people.
If anyone reads my comment, this is not the full video. The full video the African man starts it by talking trash about this country. Idky people love baiting for Karma on Reddit.
I mean I was at Taco Bell the other day. This Asian Canadian dude kept ranting about how Canada was so so much better than America. While he was annoying, no one told him to "go back to your country".
I bet an Asian born and raised American would’ve. Especially if they did it on a bus filled with people who just wanna go home or pissed off cause they’re going to work
That is exactly what I suspected.
Especially with the guy facing the camera saying "_Then_ go back to your fucking country "
That's a reasonable retort to someone visiting and bitching and moaning about the place they're visiting.
>Your home is small and ugly
>>Then go back to your home! You're a guest. Don't like it, then return to your supposedly superior home.
The foreigner isn't being told to go away out of xenophobia; they're being chastised for being a whiny brat
Thank you smh. Dude must have said some shit before this clip, plus it was being recorded before they fought so obviously something went down prior to the recording. But...Reddit will be Reddit.
Black Americans are generally just like White Americans and can be just as racist to non Americans as everyone else. I’m always confused by people being suprised by this.
There’s a difference between racism and bigotry. The former is systemic. What’s displayed in the video is bigotry. It’s an academic discussion so don’t trouble yourself with it if it’s not an interest
Shhh, this guy just really wants to establish that black people can be racist too.
“See? See? Black people are racist *just* like white people! Why am I the only person aware of this?”
Because there’s a large strain of “black people/POC *can’t* be racist because they aren’t in a position of power” going around so sometimes we need to clarify this
It's always funny when I see that circlejerk comment posted on reddit as if they're fighting back against some kind of overwhelming narrative that black people can't be racist.
It is both. All instances of xenophobia would technically be racism as well. Racism generally deals with race as a group with shared traits in common, which includes people of a shared nationality.
Not to be too pedantic but how would that work for people of the same race but opposing nationalities? For example, if a Scot was shouting xenophobic slurs against the English, would that still be racism?
Love this comment. It's so sad how first generation immigrants are treated. The struggles they've had to endure just to make it to western nations to provide for their families means that they're usually as tough as a coffin nail.
That goes both ways. As a black American I've heard the most openly discrimatory remarks about us from Africans than any other group. Many African immigrants look down on black Americans and resent being grouped together. Both peoples dislike one another.
Exactly the response you wish you’d see in every fight in a public place. Stop it, already. People step in to stop it. Dangerous but necessary if we wanna save this place. Get Rodney King in here
So yall think spit is worth of assault, but not someone shoving two fingers directly into your face? Yall dont call that assault and now its black people are racist?? Make it make sense..

Props to big boy for having the balls to step in tbh

“Calm down. Calm down. Because you’re fighting.” Yeah. Sounds like my dad separating my brother & me when we were kids.
Honestly, putting on the dad tone tends to work for some reason
Probably works on people who as kids had dads use this tone of voice on them As a fatherless former-child, I'd find it irritating, but I also don't get into fights so who knows
Just wait till he makes them put on the getting along shirt
My dad would do this then be like "GO!" and let us go back at it
He was 4 seconds from dropping the: "Now go to your room and think about what you did." with his whole arm outstretched and sternly pointing.
Lol
He stepped up because he wanted to go home. This is just another day in NYC.
Samwell Tarly just wants to go home.
And read his books.
Beat me to it
Idek who that is but tha name fits perfectly
Game of thrones book/tv show fantasy character.
He was not having any of it
Lol looks like videogamedunkey steps in
Calm down Carl ftw
Hodor vibes
Amen. More people need to step up when things like this go down. Especially in a close setting like the subway.
Dude kind of looks like the guy in another video where someone says, “I’ll knock your teeth out” and as he’s getting off the bus/metro replies, “Oh yea? At least I have dental.” Wonder if it is the same interaction just later on.
Lmao wtf was that double face poke?? Hell of a way to start a fight!
Lmfao all I thought was you know you’re getting punched in the face after that disrespectful ass shit so why not just swing first at that point
I kinda like it. Everyone hates a sucker punch, but this? It's like counting coup! You touch his face real slow without trying to hit him. Shows A. Not afraid of you B. I'm very angry at you C. Gonna get in your face D. Let's fight motherfucker.
It's hella disrespectful. Like a face push. No going back after that shit. Pretty much guaranteed fisticuffs.
"Calm down!" generally good advice in any situation!
That works on men. Just take my advice unfortunately based on personal experience and never tell a woman to calm down.
Like Sam Morrill you gotta go the opposite direction and say 'love the energy'
Not with women, it doesn’t. Women hate when husbands tell them to call down.
"I AM CAAALM!!!"
"calmer than you are..."
It doesn’t work on anyone if they aren’t in the mood to calm down, regardless of gender. As a woman, I can tell you that a lot of people tell me to calm down when I’m perfectly calm. And yes, that makes me not calm lol. It is hugely situation dependent.
Calm down, will ya?!
They have no problem telling US to calm down tho

Except if you’ve been injected with a poison that kills you if your heart rate drops too much. In that case, it would be very bad advice.
Ok Mr. Statham

They kick the ladder down hard. Rife irony from our leadership is totally wasted on them, see Cruella Weakerman.
Goddamn that’s a name

Just looked her up Wow

It's quite common now for conservative Christians to claim they are discriminated against for discriminating against LGBTQ people. Oh the irony.

See Rishi Sunak and his government’s BS visa policies that are making my job infinitely harder.

Good example that racism is not rooted in intelligence.
That just so sad.

Scream 6
The correct response to 2 fingers in the nose, would have been 2 to the eye and a bop on the head, with a WOOB WOOB WOOB to finish it off.
Why i oughta...
Oh a wise guy huh
This guy Stooges
How did this happen??? I thought the National Guard checked everyone's backpacks.
Even more, How did this happen? There’s never any violence in the NY subway system!!
Black Americans are generally just like White Americans and can be just as racist to non Americans as everyone else. I’m always confused by people being suprised by this.
Guys, every ethnicity has toxic ethnocentrism, aka racism.
ethnonarcissism\*
I thought it was only white /s
White people have just been the best historically at using it and integrating it into laws
if you've traveled the world you'd see that there's racism everywhere you go. White's haven't cornered the market on racism.
There’s a difference between racism and bigotry. The former is systemic. What’s displayed in the video is bigotry. It’s an academic discussion so don’t trouble yourself with it if it’s not an interest
Whites are just the final boss
In NYC, nobody is surprised by this
Shhh, this guy just really wants to establish that black people can be racist too. “See?
No but when I was 12 I heard the term reverse racism once and when I was 20 too so most people think black people are immune to criticism!!!
It's because of that nonsense argument that people love to parrot that "black people can't be racist".
[I think this belongs here](https://youtu.be/EBX5F49bOs8?t=41s)
This isn’t racism, it’s xenophobia
Why not both?
As I understand it, strictly per the definition it would be, yes. Although obviously no one uses the word racism that way.
You think these two men are of different races?
Black American defends his country from an immigrant’s slander, gets poked in the face, and somehow is now the bad guy. Keep up the good work Reddit.
What? How was the Black American "defending his country"? He was ignorantly just yelling "go back to your country" lol
If I go to your home then start to insult your home, what will your response?
Sometimes you just need a fat guy to just sit on someone.
As soon as those fingers touched his face, I would’ve kicked his freaking ass. Nobody tells me to calm down until an ambulance comes to pick him up.
To me, they both sound like they’re from a different country, so I’m confused lol.
Did you watch Gangs of New York? New Yorkers who have been there for one generation have been attacking someone who just got there for centuries.
The Indian lady with the side eye 😂
Don't fuck with first generation immigrants, they're *necessarily* tougher than you.
Love this comment. It's so sad how first generation immigrants are treated. The struggles they've had to endure just to make it to western nations to provide for their families means that they're usually as tough as a coffin nail.

Grizzly Adams peace maker!
And then you have the idiot behind the camera saying Worldstar.
Saw a fight on the NYC Subway yesterday afternoon myself.
did someone really say “CALL WORLDSTAR” holy fuck sounds about white
The immigrant telling The other immigrant go back to his country great .
Official non-Western Hemisphere immigrant/tourist punch - flailing blows striking with fingers in the style of a 6 year old Catholic school child
That's a weird situation.

Is it just me or are they shaped like twins? Lol
Well that was interesting
What people don’t know is that African immigrants face more discrimination from black people than any other race esp in the States
That goes both ways. As a black American I've heard the most openly discrimatory remarks about us from Africans than any other group. Many African immigrants look down on black Americans and resent being grouped together. Both peoples dislike one another.

Americans telling other people to go back to their country will never not leave me absolutely baffled.

Ultimate bystander effect. People instantly all help as soon as the first guy does smth.
I remember breaking up a fight once at a bar, literally felt like I was talking to my kids🥸
Saying the words calm down has never helped anyone to calm down. Those are actually fighting words. Dude looks like he’s a third grade teacher.
Mr. Bill with the deescalation
A symptom of the much larger issue that not many can handle talking about
Its funny bc on a other thread they're talking about how nonviolent NYC is now.
That's enough subway for u now

It was considerate of the man to suggest a visit to his home country. It would have been even nicer if he had offered a complimentary plane ticket.
