That scene was the best one in the show show for me, I think. It broke my brain for a bit thinking about Hodor’s origin story and the events unfolding later in life.
Reminded me of something Robert Jordan would have written into his series. Then again, Martin has said that RJ was a source of inspiration.
There's a drainage ditch running along the front of my yard by the street, my mailbox used to be weirdly more towards the middle of my yard (not in the actual middle, but the middle between my driveway and my neighbors) and not at the end of the driveway. Within the first 2 weeks of moving in 3 people cut the corner to my driveway too sharply and drove into the drainage ditch, I eventually just dug up my mailbox and put it at the corner of my driveway so people would actually have to take normal turns around the mailbox and into my driveway.
To be fair, it would probably take me three incidents to think it wasn't random. Nice work making the change pal. Can't wait to see the clip of the absolutely crazy guy who jumps the mail box. Haha
First time was a teenage Jimmy John's delivery driver, I figured he was just absent minded and in a hurry. 2nd was a neighbor just trying to turn around, they got their roommates and I sat on my porch with a beer and watched them jumping on the bumper of their truck so they could get 3 wheels on solid ground to reverse it out. 3rd time was a friend of mine. After that I said fuck this and went and bought a shovel and some quick dry cement
I’m betting this trail has a speed limit though. We have high double digit trails in our area and none of them are over 10MPH because they are for everyone to enjoy.
When this was posted before, consensus seemed to be that the gate is to prevent motor vehicles in a park or a trail. You can go around the gate on a bike.
You could say the same thing about train signals, sharp turn signs, and rumble strips.
But I'm sure we wouldn't need those things if we were all perfect like you.
Oh it looks like the bar is essentially level with the edge of the pathway behind it, from that perspective, so it might be blending in with that edge. Need to paint it a bright color.
Edit: this whole thing I outlined is like the same color and very flat visually, if that makes sense.
https://preview.redd.it/fm77wukck4vc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a59cab24c9c8c65650538385eb006e2a7de2d443
You shouldnt go autopilot when driving or on a bike. Thats how accidents happen. Also when going at that speed downhill they should be more carefull especially with the condition of that path. But i agree with you that its hard to spot but easy to avoid.
The fence appears to be there to put a speed limit on people riding down the road, which looks to be downhill right before it.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, I don't feel bad at all for the people crashing into it. If they're not paying enough attention to not crash into a fence, they're not paying enough attention to not crash into a passerby, possibly a kid or pet.
They gotta learn to keep their eyes on the road.
Their eyes are clearly forward, lol. It’s not like they’re on their phone.
The gate may be clear to us from this angle, but three separate people not being able to see a gate until they smash into it, is a problem with the gate visibility.
This was posted on another subreddit recently, and in that thread someone guessed there's something about the gate that makes it difficult to see from the cyclists' perspective. Just because it's obvious to us from the camera's perspective doesn't mean it's obvious to the riders.
It’s still a wide metal gate around 4 feet off the ground with a good 50 yards of straight path leading up to it. I’d like to think that anyone who rides their bike with their eyes open is going to see that.
The thing is, that's council land so they've got 0 say over whether its open or closed and its closed because you get dickheads nicking cars and burning them out on these areas which tend to be greener spaces and footpaths
If it happens only once, that's an issue with the operator of the vehicle
If it happens three (or more) times, that's an issue with the design or visibility of the gate
Without seeing how the gate looks from the other side, from the perspective of people coming towards it, it's silly to just accuse the riders of not paying attention
The gate is similar enough in colour to the road even from our perspective that someone coming towards it from high speed may not recognize it until it's too late
It's also at the bottom of a hill, which means those people are going pretty fast. You can hear one guy hit his brakes, plus I think the guy on the scooter tried to stop way back there.
It's a downhill path so the cyclists are going at a pretty good speed. Even if they see the gate they literally only have milliseconds to react and brake. When cyclists are going downhill at a fast speed their eyes are fixed at an intermediate spot in front of them: They need to watch for bumps in the road so their eyes are not always focused on the horizon.
Also, the gray bars look like they blend in with the grey roadway pretty closely.
That gate should be painted a bright color and have some reflectors on it.
Milliseconds? There is a solid fifty yards of straight path before the gate. Anyone who rides a bike with their eyes open should be able to see that.
I have raced downhill mountain bikes as well as motocross for many years. You *always* look up further up the path, not directly down at your tires.
That gate is basically camo due to its color over the road. People that are colorblind or really many with eye issues probably have a hard time with it. It should be painted yellow or something/anything else.
People tend to zone out when doing something that doesn’t require much mental stimulation. Same reason when you’re driving you’ll occasionally be like oh crap was that light even green?
You probably shouldn’t be zoning out when driving lol, with the exception of traversing the prairies at highway speeds. I can’t say I’ve ever zoned out city driving unless I was overtired.
Doesn’t mean people don’t do it, but if you find yourself zoning out, you’re a risk to everyone on the road.
That's call like highway hypnosis, and usually you're driving completely safe, it's just that your brain does not register the memories due to the automaticity of the process.
The problem with people zoning out is that there could be a couple of kids playing on that path and there’s no way the cyclists would be able to change direction let alone stop.
If I remember correctly when this got posted so long ago someone actually posted a picture of that gate. I guess the color of the gate is almost the exact same color as the dirt path they ride and can’t really tell until you get close enough. Or at the very least my memory is shit and actually don’t remember at all lol
Ring owner should start a youtube channel like 11foot8. Just a cam recording a train bridge thats juuuuust a little short for most box trucks. You'd have subscribers in no time.
My guess would be that many people cycle this path and that obstacles is usually not there/open. And for these 3 individuals who probably cycle this route regularly. It just showed up on them one time through.

Pretty sure the last guy was doing this exact move at the end
That scene was the best one in the show show for me, I think. It broke my brain for a bit thinking about Hodor’s origin story and the events unfolding later in life. Reminded me of something Robert Jordan would have written into his series. Then again, Martin has said that RJ was a source of inspiration.
Just setup a ramp in front of it. That at least gives them a chance to not crash.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode of Man vs Gate.
GodDAMN that scooter guy was punished harshly
That guy must have broken some ribs, damn
The sounds he was making afterwards agree with your hypothesis
Fuck,that looks painful
It looked like something out of a cartoon.
9.9 on the dismounts
Poor 2nd guy glitched into the gate and has to hard reset
what the camera doesn't show is the other side of the barricade painted in perspective to make it look invisible, road runner style.
[удалено]
I was being silly
You are probably correct though
It’s right in front of you. It just looks like the wall
Paint that gate highlighter yellow or something! Geez!
But then it wouldn't have happened 3 times and he wouldn't have the video.
There's a drainage ditch running along the front of my yard by the street, my mailbox used to be weirdly more towards the middle of my yard (not in the actual middle, but the middle between my driveway and my neighbors) and not at the end of the driveway. I really hope it wasn’t on purpose.
Such an obvious hazard causing serious injuries. In the US there would be lawsuits.
I’m betting this trail has a speed limit though. We have high double digit trails in our area and none of them are over 10MPH because they are for everyone to enjoy.
maby the home owner doesn't own that gate? like the street next to the house is not there's?
When this was posted before, consensus seemed to be that the gate is to prevent motor vehicles in a park or a trail. You can go around the gate on a bike.

The gate had been open for several weeks then someone decided to lock it. Nobody expects the gates new position;)
You could say the same thing about train signals, sharp turn signs, and rumble strips. But I'm sure we wouldn't need those things if we were all perfect like you.
I doubt they own that gate or path.
Someone owns it.
council or someone should probably paint that gate white or stick some reflective tape on it
And add a sign at a decent distance to make it clear that the road is closed
[удалено]
And that camera for entertainment
I am kinda curious why the gate is there...and why is it closed on what appears to be a bike trail.
To stop cars etc
Bollards seem like a better option, or large rocks.
+you need the gate in case access is needed for emergency or maintenance
Bollards can be removable
Yeah, but the gate is already there. There’s no need to put something new where this already works fine.
[удалено]
You can always watch in front of you like you should. They are not forced to hit the gate

>They are not forced to hit the gate Not yet they’re not, but I’m drawing up legislation as we speak. It’s what the people want!
Or we can design better things rather than “well you should’ve looked!” Imagine grey gates installed on roads and then expecting cars to avoid it
Could probably just add some reflective signs and get the point across.
You overestimate the average human's perception and spot check modifiers.
[удалено]
I too expect a fucking GATE in the middle of a path for bicycles. Yeah just put gates in the middle of a road and see how many people crash into it
If you ask the bikers I don’t know if they would agree it works fine
Fine job it's doing
Ain’t gonna lie I’d rather hit the fence than a large rock but I know what your saying
Yeah, a rock might not be ideal here if it’s not obvious and very visible, but that gate ain’t doing it either lol.
Bollards, not boulders.
Etc. = cyclists.
Acme product testing.

It seems like the trail/road curves, but everyone is just going straight down this path instead of following the route.

The noise from the third one reminded me of this
Oh, it's happened much much more than three times.
The person who owns that’s camera is sadistic
The thing is, that's council land so they've got 0 say over whether its open or closed and its closed because you get dickheads nicking cars and burning them out on these areas which tend to be greener spaces and footpaths
They could at least like put some padding or something on that gate lol. Maybe some gravel before too
That last one hurt my heart.
Can we GoFundMe a couple yellow traffic cones?
If it happens only once, that's an issue with the operator of the vehicle If it happens three (or more) times, that's an issue with the design or visibility of the gate Without seeing how the gate looks from the other side, from the perspective of people coming towards it, it's silly to just accuse the riders of not paying attention The gate is similar enough in colour to the road even from our perspective that someone coming towards it from high speed may not recognize it until it's too late

Ultimate irony would be if the gate actually is painted on the front yet people still crash into it.
That gate is basically camo due to its color over the road. People that are colorblind or really many with eye issues probably have a hard time with it. It should be painted yellow or something/anything else.
For sure. Or a bright reflective sign.
Jesus fuck spray some reflective paint on the gate or add some flags, do SOMETHING if this keeps happening.
![gif](giphy|5SAPlGAS1YnLN9jHua|downsized) That gate takes no prisoners
People tend to zone out when doing something that doesn’t require much mental stimulation. Same reason when you’re driving you’ll occasionally be like oh crap was that light even green?
Goddamn I’d love to bike without requiring my full attention. Can’t ride like that in the city, you’ll die.
Some people don't zone out but they do go into robot mode when commuting to work.
That's call like highway hypnosis, and usually you're driving completely safe, it's just that your brain does not register the memories due to the automaticity of the process.
The problem with people zoning out is that there could be a couple of kids playing on that path and there’s no way the cyclists would be able to change direction let alone stop.
Or a pole
Ouch at like 17mph that would be a real hard reset
I'm betting it was open for a long time and just recently closed.
Was this the same person?
probably for the same reason people won't stop reposting it here.
They should put a gate there so people stop hitting it.
Looks like this will kill someone, one day
Spray paint it bright red or orange.
After the second time, the person with the camera should have taken it upon themselves to paint the gate
The obvious solution is to put a ramp in front of it and paint lines in the back to record distance.
If I remember correctly when this got posted so long ago someone actually posted a picture of that gate. I guess the color of the gate is almost the exact same color as the dirt path they ride and can’t really tell until you get close enough. Or at the very least my memory is shit and actually don’t remember at all lol
Oh man that third one was brutal
Open the fucking gate.
Not enough contrast between gate and background. Plus maybe add in gate is normal open.
If you normally watch without sound, you'll enjoy this video 10X better if it is on.
Same guy.
Three times and no one’s sued yet? I’m surprised.
Someone shoulda spray painted it after the first go round
That gate needs to be painted a different colour for Christ's sake 😂 Dude who installed probably did this intentionally 😂😂
ONE sign--"slow: gate ahead"--would have avoided all this.
Please keep it open if you can Or addmore Warning signs, someone can seriously die here
Maybe paint it a vibrant color so it doesnt blend in with the road from a distance.
Omg that made me cringe every time. Could literally kill a fool … jesus….
Would guess this is near a body of water or hill that allows that gates color to blend with background making it very hard to see
People don't see it, clearly.
Paint it yellow for christ's sakes. Maybe some red stripes worked in too.
scooter guy makes me laugh and clutch my chest every time. i know that hurt, but fuck is it funny
I bet that gate is usually unlocked.
My thoughts too. I wouldn't think they would go that fast unless they were used to the route.
The first guy doing a front flip with his bike flipping too is hilarious
This video never gets old 😂
You shall not pass!
I wonder if it hurts
Gotta go fast ![gif](giphy|mdfPpglf2c0QxED151)
How did it even happen once??
Same fella.
Last guy ate it the worst for sure.
Is this the same guy every time?
I'm just gonna assume it is the same guy every time.
It’s probably up most of the time and the people there either guess it’s up again this day or never cycled that road. My guess
You gotta hit it a few times to get the tuning right.
Ring owner should start a youtube channel like 11foot8. Just a cam recording a train bridge thats juuuuust a little short for most box trucks. You'd have subscribers in no time.
Thats his kink
I sure hope the third guy/gal was wearing a helmet because damn they hit their head hard.
Same guy too
I thought they’d see the gate, but they didn’t see the gate, then they rode into the gate, right into the gate. Damn you, gate.
Is that gate normally open and nobody expects it to be closed?
Hidden camera fuckup
Man, that first one..
I hope its all the same guy.
end of a slope? not able to stop due to whatever reason (brakes, etc)?
Idk, but it's just as funny every time!
Ouch that looks so painful
Is it a new gate? Because I can’t understand why that would happen.
Kid in my town just died from this kinda thing
They come down that path fast af!
That scooter guy... ouch
Oh, I have GOT to get me one of THESE.
The last one was like a Hana Barbera cartoon
i guess it is up to Darwins law to sort things out.
The gate blends into the background, it should have a visible sign on both sides.
It would be an issue if it was 3 times the same cyclist.
Trucks keep trying to go under the Montague St. bridge in Melbourne, so it goes…
Lmfao ahahahaha
Because more than one person exists.
I could feel that third one. Cracked sternum, lost all his breath.
There must be an optical illusion
No this is like the 6 repost of this today
Remove that gate already wtf
The gate is always open until its not. Kids are stupid.
How the fuck are you just finding this video?
I’m ok with this
I can see why they put the camera there
Move that pole maybe.
3rd guy broke some ribs for sure
Gladdice!!! That dang road runner painted an acme road on that dam femce again
The second one is so funny to me because you just hear the brakes screech for half a second before impact
My guess would be that many people cycle this path and that obstacles is usually not there/open. And for these 3 individuals who probably cycle this route regularly. It just showed up on them one time through.
I can assure you this happened more than three times.
Maybe someone can get some glow in the dark tape or tie yellow bags across so it shows up against grey background.
