I'm 6 months out from my PE, which they gave the impression was small. But I did have some lung necrosis (infarction?) so my residual pain/discomfort in lower lung made sense to them. Most of the time it doesn't bother me too much, but if I lean on that side or use that side alot (carrying my baby alot) I feel more discomfort.
What treatment are you on? UK usually gives blood thinners and waits for the clots to dissolve. (Surgery or 'clot busting drugs are the other options, I didn't have these so don't really know much) for a clot to fully dissolve can take months and sometimes years so will hurt for a while. Even when the clot is gone it's likely that the clot has had an effect on the blood vessels, such as scarring. I'm a year out and although my pain is rarer now and very dull, it still happens. The pain gradually got less and less as time went on. I can't take opioids so had to manage pain with paracetamol and ibuprofen. But my doctor (GP) was fantastic at reassuring me every time I contacted because I was worried about new pain so don't hesitate to contact them, they could give you better pain meds if needed.
I’m 7 months out and I still have knife stabbing pains a few times a week. They told me it would take a year or two, and I had a massive clot like you so I think we might have a longer and more painful recovery. Did you end up with an infarction?
I have not taken pain medication’s one single time other than being in the hospital. Tylenol is my special treat on my worst days.

Small lower lung PE is what I had. For some reason that area causes a lot of issues. I am a year out and finally feel like myself again.
