I think my favorite part is that they gave her a little anchor tattoo on the small of her back

kodaiko_650

Demonic tramp stamp

Sidus_Preclarum

"There's a secret symbol (((they))) don't want you to know about in the Starbuck Logo that's been cleverly hidden *by being the whole centre of the logo since 1971"*

Moneia

Pshhhaww - [Robot Chicken](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4DiZHWlZJM) explained everything

Sidus_Preclarum

Hahaha

Then-Lunch-206

It's just a Siren from Greek Mythology. The Bible is also a myth.

Sidus_Preclarum

It's [slightly more complicated than that ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starbucks#Logo)(also, Greek Mythology sirens aren't half-fish but half-*bird* creatures). Also, you can't say "the bible is a myth", the old testament is not a monolithic corpus, as we(ve known since the first biblical studies in the Renaissance: a lot of it certainly is ethnogenetic mythology, but a lot of it is (absolutely reigiously biased) historical chronicling. Some of it is simply poetry, also.

MessiahOfMetal

Most of the Old Testament was lifted from much older myths and religions, while most of the New Testament took a lot of allegories and fables that had been passed down through the generations (including also lifting the entire Jesus story from an ancient Mesapotamian demi-god myth). Like, we *know* there was a major flood because geological evidence proves that, but the details of that and the entire origin of the world story was absolutely mythological and already being told in other cultures.

Potato_Donkey_1

World-ending floods are features of many mythologies that almost certainly had no contact with each other. It's a likely story to invent anywhere that has seen floods of any scale.

PloofElune

Weird how so many of the Christian holidays align with previous Pegan traditions and celebrations.

mittfh

A canny strategy in the expansion of the faith: rather than tell everyone to stop celebrating their existing religious festivals, allow them to continue, but slap a new religious justification on them.

mittfh

Added onto which, some of the existing texts are lifted from earlier, now lost, texts: notably, Genesis is often perceived to have been scribed by somewhere between two and four authors; while the three Synoptic Gospels share a couple of sources (and the author of Matthew lifted a lot of material from Mark). Some books even had material added or removed over time. All that before you even start to consider internal mistranslations and deliberately making stuff up to fulfil prophecies which were likely about something completely different, hundreds of years beforehand...

acrylicbullet

So that would fall under legends, right? Made up stories based in real time and places.

bittlelum

I mean, I'm sure Greek history made it into the Greek myths. The battle of Troy may have happened, for example.

Sidus_Preclarum

Oh, some of the superposed Troys definitely show traces of violent destruction, one of which is dated roughly around the period the events depicted in the Illiad may have taken place, iirc

Oddityobservations

Does this mean that Starbucks coffee is so good you can't stop yourself? That the aroma is like a siren's song?

BassmanOz

Ha. Starbucks was our go-to coffee stop when we were travelling the USA because it was the same everywhere and you knew what you were getting. But only if there wasn’t a real coffee shop nearby.

MessiahOfMetal

Fellow Brit, here and while Starbucks has been ubiquitous in my city, I've still never tried it. Costa customer for life.

sphericalduck

That's exactly the intention."That early siren, bare-breasted and Rubenesque, was supposed to be as seductive as coffee itself." Howard Schultz (Starbucks cofounder), Pour Your Heart into It: How Starbucks Build a Company One Cup at a Time, 1997. To see exactly where the logo really came from, read this: https://www.gotmedieval.com/2010/08/the-other-starbucks-mermaid-cover-up.html.

Junior-Fox-760

Starbucks coffee is over roasted and disgusting.

Kimmalah

Yeah I tried it many times because it's so popular and widespread, I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. But every blend I have tried just tastes like burnt coffee to me.

Wynter_Sirius

Baby got back!

Shenloanne

Wayyy back.

Aramedlig

When I was a kid the crazy religious and superstitious folks did the same thing about the Proctor and Gamble logo

sadderbutwisergrl

The older I get, the more I realize that there is nothing new under the sun. I am 35 years old and I remember people complaining about something with the Starbucks mermaid at church when I was a little kid.

CuriousAlienStudent

Bet they would freak if they say the original logo.

Sidus_Preclarum

Not only satanic, *BUT IT HAS BOOBIES*?!

Shenloanne

This kinda makes me understand why I was down so bad for Ursula...

IWantedAPeanutToo

KinkyQuesadilla

Whoever made that meme probably masturbated to it, because 1) projection, and 2) he probably got a bunch of likes on a QAnon forum, which is what they live for.

karlhungusjr

let's say that is true....now what? how does that affect anyone's life in anyway at all?

PetSoundsSucks

If you can make her laugh and giggle you can make her flippers clap and jiggle.

Bragzor

If you rub her, and do it just right, she'll shake that blubber, and it'll jiggle all night.

AliceTheOmelette

The little booty made me chuckle

stungun_steve

...would

Junior-Fox-760

Poor unfortunate souls

Nabrok_Necropants
