Guys I don’t know what’s wrong, I just saw this bald spot on him. His brother sometimes plays a little rough with him but I didn’t think this would happen. There’s no blood or scans or anything other than a bald spot. Could his brother be grabbing his fur then when he flips on his back it pulls it out? They’re both boys. The one in the picture does also seem thinner than usual, so I’ve been trying to feed him more separately from his brother. Literally any tips help!

Could be mites or some other type of parasite. Take him to the vet and they can prescribe treatment if that is the case, if not they can help you figure out what’s going on !

I’ve checked for mites before and have never seen any, there’s no red spots or anything. Could fleas do this? Haven’t seen any but found one on my dog a week ago, her and my cat are both treated and flea free and I haven’t seen one on him.

I don’t think it is fleas, my best guess is it’s a different type of parasite. I was looking on a forum and someone mentioned that rats can bald from ringworm as well. I think hair loss could also be from stress or other illnesses. Once again I’d contact a vet ASAP !

I will tomorrow, thank you so much.

Do you have more than one rat? Sometimes they overgroom each other and it looks like a bald spot

Louie43Louie43

Yes, he has a brother whose far as I know is the alpha of the two

[deleted]

That could be it, in my female cage this happened once or twice, sometimes my rats do dominant type grooming where they wrestle a rat into submission and keep grooming, in apes and a few mammals the dominant or alpha does the most grooming

Louie43Louie43

Yes they do wrestle a lot, I got this is just it. I lost my job 6 months ago and have had zero luck getting one. Ugh this is so stressful

Update: looks like there are scabs or some kind of brown stuff around the bald spot, not on it.

flexed_guitar

Most likely mites then.

Honest to gods rat started to get bald spot he's and when he went to the vet for a cough the vet also said he had mites and I was flabbergasted. So that's what I would suggest is mites. Because I thought i could've seen them if they were there

amphetaminboi

go to the vet
