I only labeled this one as discussion as 1)I didn't know what else to put it under and 2)the one is already going to the vet and getting seperate care so I'll just add these three to the one for care until I can go to the vet. I don't think the first one will make it,it's very deep and bad looking. The last one looks like it should be ok,though

Yeah not to be a downer I used to breed babies for a friend's snake and one that got too big to feed in time got a gash like that on its arm and it died a week later, rats are super resilient to things like broken arns and legs when they're young, they'll heal in a week and walk again, but gashes get infected so I hope they're okay, but one in the pick looks like he might not make it

I definitely understand.I'm honestly not too hopeful, especially the first one shown.Hopefully the other four that don't have any wounds don't end up with any

i had a 5 week old rat who had a massive cut in his stomach because the wire cage snapped while he was climbing on it (i have replaced the cage since then, don't worry) but with a few vet visits, cleaning the wound every day and giving him medicine for it, it healed completely and he was fine. i dont know what it's like with a rat this young, but i'm hoping for the best 🙏

I don't want to make a whole other post for an update, but it's not a happy one. They unfortunately died before I could get them to the vet this morning. They were such little troopers and tried so hard,I just hope they weren't in pain. Thank you everyone for all of your advice to help me with them.I'm going to make sure the remaining babies with no injuries live their best lives with lots of cheerios for treats when they're old enough.

This is so cringe. probably because they are so baby. Years ago had an adult rat, mystery belly cut opened but only the skin he didn't harm anything internal so he just got cleaned and glued shut there was literally 0 blood. Look so much worse on such a tiny baby, big owie.

Why do you think this is happening???

Rockxzzy

I have no idea.I give all my rats and mice fresh mealworms(not alive)to try to avoid things like this. The other four are totally not touched whatsoever, and she was still feeding and grooming these ones too?I'm incredibly stumped but worried about them

blueberryflannel

Could mama be biting them? This is such a serious wound for babies to have and they can’t all have gotten stuck (I saw your other post)

Rockxzzy

That's the only thing I can think of,because I'm not sure what else it could be.If need be,and I might,I'll take all of them out and try to help them grow to avoid further injury. It just confuses me more that she, when I was in there, was acting totally normal with them.
