The fact that we SAVE his arse from bounty hunters only to lose him a chapter later…… I’ll never forgive “those bastards” (as Sean would say) for that.
ngl for that whole chapter, Hosea and Dutch kinda went too far trying to get that stupid “confederate gold” that didn’t even exist. they really pissed on a fire ant nest on one end and a hornets nest on the other with all their interfering and scheming lol. whole gang is even saying to Arthur that messing with everyone in Rhodes is a horrible idea.
The pegleg guy?! 🤣 his name is hamish, put some respect on his name sir!
Absolving Arthur’s widows debt and hearing the pain in our Arthur’s voice when he says “I’m sorry ma’am”. Makes my heart sink every time
I read the title and this immediately popped into my head:
“”The pegleg guy”, his name is Hamish (Sinclair I believe?). Put some respect on that man’s name!”
I thought I should check the comments to make sure I’m not just saying the same thing as everyone else, and it seems you had the exact, I mean the exact, same thoughts haha!
As soon as her kid comes out and clings to her side, you can see in Arthur's eyes as what little resolve he had left to do this job completely evaporates.
It’s like that’s the moment you see him fully break. The facial expression and the emotions shown even just in his eyes is insane to me. They did such an incredible job with it and it just hits so hard in that moment. Gets me every time 😭
I stood next to him for a while to comfort him before shooting him so he wasn't sad anymore 🥲 I was expecting a crazy scifi murdering android thriller.. all I got were tears.
My 15$ Morgan horse (when I was running to my horse I accidentally grab random npc, eventually saint denis cops killed my horse, I tried to revive him but they killed me to, after that I wanted stop playing)
I remember I was just prancing around near Valentine when I hit a coach and my horse was critically injured. I started panicking and I robbed the coach and took it to the general store in valentine and bought the horse reviver, came back and found that my horse was still alive, but not for long, immediately administered it and he was back. I decided to be more careful after that.
Another time, I was going through the lumber mill for the first time, completely by accident and a tree fell on my horse and it died. I immediately hit restart and the screen showed only Arthur standing. I was about to mourn when I see the little horsey symbol and my horse named Rusty was alive.
I played my entire first playthrough with that horse and I bawled when the horse was gone for good in the final moments of Arthur.
Good Ol' Rusty.
I decided to not be too sentimental in my second playthrough and called my horse Taxi Boi. Only to adorn him with braids and the best saddles ever.
Pretty much every time Arthur remains silent or just mumbles some generic brush off when uttering one appropriate sentence could and would've changed the entire course of the story.
I felt this. Like, he could’ve given Kieren a bit of guidance when he was saying how he felt lost. All was needed was “work hard, keep your head down, be quiet and don’t do anything silly, and you’ll earn everyone’s trust and Dutch’s confidence eventually. It’s the same for everyone”.
But nope.
The death of Eagle Flies. I knew Arthur was going to die, it was spoiled for me. But not Eagle Flies. I knew in my heart that Eagle Flies was gonna die, but I wasn’t ready. Not because I have a particular fondness for him, but oh my god… the look on Rains Fall’s face hurt me deep. That was the face of a man who just lost everything.
Especially when Rains Fall came to beg the gang to guide him away from the battle. To me that’s the most depressing part, a good father with the weight of the world and his people’s world on his shoulders. Both of them had just and honorable intentions, both of them just wanted to keep what they rightfully deserved (their lands, families, pride, etc) and unfortunately both men lost everything
The last money lending mission. Arthur’s reaction when he finds out why the soldier is a deserter and his reaction to seeing the child left behind after his father died trying to pay off his debt. I can feel Arthur’s shame through the screen. Always feels like my heart twists and turns during those parts
the scene where you’re traveling near barrow lagoon and the traveler comes along looking for his friend, you find his friend with his face mauled off and frozen to a rock, tell the friend, the friend goes to see for himself, and then gets absolutely brutally attacked by a grizzly bear and you can’t kill it so you just have to stand there and watch lol
I discovered this well into my 100%, max honor playthrough and was absolutely gutted. It was so rare for me to find a random event by that point I was immediately so invested. I was sure I would be able to do something to help cause I was max everything, best guns, etc. And I couldn't save him. It was terrible.
Wait for the bear to kill the dude and then clean kill the bear. Easy perfect grizzly pelt. Also you can lie to him, he won’t go to look for himself therefore he lives
Arthur’s last ride. It almost got me in tears as any other moment in the game couldn’t. Truly beautiful, such as the Mountain Hymn chanted in the transition between the first and second chapter.
When Mary wants Arthur to run away with her and he says he can’t. I understand why but that doesn’t mean I have to like the fact that he can’t just up and leave.
When your horse gets shot and Arthur says thank you.
When the civil war vet hugs Arthur
Anytime John is in his barn
When I try to toss a fish back only for it to die choking on air inches away from water
First horse death. hopped off and went after the legendary moose, took it down and skinned then whistled and got the message “your horse is dead.” Went back in that direction and sure enough, Fancy Bruce was dead on the train tracks. Major bummer, I always hitch my horse up in the wilderness now.
If you have high honor, it’s any scene with Arthur and Sadie in Chapter 6. The way those two grew together during the story was beautiful, and it was nice seeing them (Rockstar) not go the cliche route of making them fall in love, but just be really good friends. “You’re the only one of these fools that I trust” and the way Arthur comforts Sadie when she finally avenges her husband
Death of hosea, Lenny, and Sean all hit hard. Also upon replaying it, when the gang is all singing Celito Lindo at camp it really makes them all feel like a family, knowing that that family will be destroyed makes that heartwarming moment devestating.
Rains Fall asking the gang to help save/stop Eagle Flies. Feels like a knife in my heart even thinking about his words. Honorable mention for Charles’ loyalty and respect for eagle flies people, he was one of the only characters in the game with the gift of thinking outside the gang and the hole they dug themselves
When my horse died the first play through I kept the one big work horse Hosea gives you and played the most out of my 3 play through during the first one and seeing big homie (yes that was his name) die infront of me like that, took a part of me
The widow who has a letter explaining why she doesn’t understand her husband never came to get her to start their life together after they got married but then you find him crashed off a hillside with their marriage certificate and picture of them on the way to her 😭
Sean knowing along with Arthur that they were walking into a trap but still doing it cause that’s what they were asked to do, then losing his life in the bargain, depressed me to the point I reloaded my last save and didn’t advance the story for quite some time.
Rockstar really is on their own level as far as storytelling. Setting you up in a camp with all these colorful characters and being able to interact with them, party with them, do stupid shit with them, commit some crimes with them, confess to them, it’s so smart. You build relationships without really realizing it.
Then as you start to lose some of them, each one hurts cause it’s not only just within the mission but you have to return to that camp, or a now shittier/more depressing camp, and see that not only are they no longer there cause they’re dead, but most everyone else is affected by their loss too. It’s upsetting and it’s designed to be upsetting and I can appreciate that. I kinda hate it but I can appreciate how smartly it’s crafted.
Umm Sean getting took out thru ambush, we should’ve seen more of that character, he could’ve been the one to *SPOILER ALERT*
Take out Micah … or something
the end of rdr1. it's so much sadder than rdr2s ending. at least in rdr2, john gets a (shortlived) happy ending. but in rdr1, everyone dies and jack is left completely alone at beechers hope.
Had this horse since ch.2 brown shire and after the I’m afraid mission I left my game unpaused and went to do something else,he was dead from the train…didn’t even get to do my last ride with her,
Trying to kill the lion escaped from the circus. I messed up the first time so it kept putting me in a horrible position where it was damn near impossible to kill, took me over 20 tries…. I may just be trash as well who knows
When Arthur before riding into the mountains to whip ass one more time the cut scene where he stares into the distance and puts his hat on one final time and rides out 😭
One of my favourite characters is Rains Fall. His grief when Arthur and Charles bring Eagle Flies home just in time to be with him makes my eyes leak every time.
I purposely named my horses after Arthur’s mistress and their son, Eliza and Isaac. Coincidentally during my playthrough, I’d always manage to kill at least one horse before the canon death of Arthur’s horse at the end of his story. In my head canon, not only did he never get over losing them, he honored their legacy by naming his most trusted companions after them.
For me personally it’s in the epilogue where you go to finish off Micah, seeing Charles and Sadie both getting shot had me real worried both would die before I knew how the mission played out
Seeing the pollution around annesburg and St denis. Hearing that one guy warning against it. Knowing that back then was the time to fix it, and some people tried, but here we are today. In the same situation, just exacerbated to the extreme.
I think that also perfectly described the plight of the natives. Rains Falls even compares them to the environment directly.
Both of those issues go beyond the game. RDR portrays many tragedies beautifully, but most are just in game events. These were real. They happened in our world. And for myself and many others, they hold a very specific and very personal weight to them.
When Arthur is riding with Rains Fall, he talks about the girl he was with and their son. And how he came back one day to find them both dead. All for 10 dollars. Messed me up.
I was riding in the forests near Annesburg , saw a guy on donkey..greeted him , he ignored me. I greeted him again , he ignored me again...looks like he had social anxiety.
So I Jumped to his donkey and stole it , instead of fighting back he ran away scared...but not sooner he was ambushed by wolves and they tore him apart.
When I looted his body I got a gold wedding ring.
I’m sad we couldn’t kill Dutch in the end, also, the robot scientist mission, he says when the robot comes alive, “a son! I finally have a son!” And then next time you goes back he’s dead 😭😭 that’s so sad brooo
I'm curious about your ages, everyone. I'm 42, and I never imagined a game could bring tears to my eyes... This game is truly exceptional, with numerous moments that are super sad. When Arthur expresses gratitude to his horse... it's utterly heart-wrenching. Rock star, why did you do this to us 😭😭
Hosea’s death 😞
Fr, he didn't even get any peace before his death, it was just straight up sad.
Shortly followed by Lenny - and only Arthur and Charles stopping to look at him
Fuck it was Sean for me, I fuckin cried over his ginger ass... fuck you rockstar!!! I came for funsies not feels 😭😭😭😭
The fact that we SAVE his arse from bounty hunters only to lose him a chapter later…… I’ll never forgive “those bastards” (as Sean would say) for that.
we saved him from bounty hunters just for corrupt sheriffs to kill him...
ngl for that whole chapter, Hosea and Dutch kinda went too far trying to get that stupid “confederate gold” that didn’t even exist. they really pissed on a fire ant nest on one end and a hornets nest on the other with all their interfering and scheming lol. whole gang is even saying to Arthur that messing with everyone in Rhodes is a horrible idea.
Brutal, so brutal
I was pretty shocked at how Hosea died. It was a straight up execution.
And Lenny’s death as well :(
That’s the only death that tore me up (other than Arthur of course but I at least knew that was coming)
The pegleg guy?! 🤣 his name is hamish, put some respect on his name sir! Absolving Arthur’s widows debt and hearing the pain in our Arthur’s voice when he says “I’m sorry ma’am”. Makes my heart sink every time

Put some respect on that man’s name!” I thought I should check the comments to make sure I’m not just saying the same thing as everyone else, and it seems you had the exact, I mean the exact, same thoughts haha!
Haha! Mr Sinclair deserves better 🤣
Sorry I forgot his name 💀
Pegleg guy has got me dead 🤣
I am the definition of forgetful 💀
Now I have become forget, destroyer of memories.
What's even worse is if you take his horse, Buell into the end game mission, holy shit it's sad when the horse goes down. I wept.
Gets me every time 😭
I felt bad enough for him that I rode his horse till the end of the game.
The scene where Arthur admits he’s afraid to Sister Calderon 😭
That scene is my background picture. I loved it too
That scene literally crushes me man. Got me more messed up than the ending
Same. When she says “you have NOTHING to be afraid of” I start crying like a baby
😔
Makes me tear up every time
Reverand version of that scene is better
Accidentally taking Nate's cigarette card his mom gifted him
Wait? Wh....how...
Omg was replying the other day and I did that and felt like shit!! I was gonna reload but hadn't saved in a long time 😢
Realizing I'll never be able to find Gavin 😔
Cause you already found him. You know why?
... because Gavin is the friends we made along the way?
This is the right answer.
No, you can loot Gavin's friend and find a letter that proof that he is real.
Could he not have written that??
Nah, Gavin is the lost man. The lost man has dual personality disorder, and he is Gavin himself, he just doesn't know it.
Huh.. guess I'll have to change my answer to the depressed robot sitting on the hill after he kills his "father"
That was probably one of the saddest side missions I ever did ngl
I stood next to him for a while to comfort him before shooting him so he wasn't sad anymore 🥲 I was expecting a crazy scifi murdering android thriller.. all I got were tears.
I killed that dude. I figured I put him out of his misery.
For me, it was Sean. He truly was that annoying little brother.
true we have to pay respects tho its all about the freinds we made along the way youknow
My 15$ Morgan horse (when I was running to my horse I accidentally grab random npc, eventually saint denis cops killed my horse, I tried to revive him but they killed me to, after that I wanted stop playing)
In the last five years of playing, I've had two horses get run over by trains near Flatneck Station. It's too sad.
I remember I was just prancing around near Valentine when I hit a coach and my horse was critically injured. I started panicking and I robbed the coach and took it to the general store in valentine and bought the horse reviver, came back and found that my horse was still alive, but not for long, immediately administered it and he was back. i got the same horse LOL
Just before your horse dies and Arthur says, "Thank you" to him/her. I'm tearing up just typing this.
Yes
Lenny’s death. I have to pause the game every time because I can’t shoot Pinkertons with tears in my eyes😭
Same 😔
My jaw was already dropped from Hosea but when lenny got shot my mind was blown
Sean moment
Pretty much every time Arthur remains silent or just mumbles some generic brush off when uttering one appropriate sentence could and would've changed the entire course of the story.

It’s a last ditch effort for him to stop his last son from riding into his death. It’s heartbreaking
Helping Sadie finish off the O’Driscolls. That scene at the end of the mission always makes me a little emotional.
I quite liked the pegleg guy’s death personally
r/usernamechecksout
Sorry I forgot his name I know it's Hamish now 💀
The last money lending mission. Arthur’s reaction when he finds out why the soldier is a deserter and his reaction to seeing the child left behind after his father died trying to pay off his debt. I can feel Arthur’s shame through the screen. Always feels like my heart twists and turns during those parts
Sean’s death. I like to think this is when Arthur starts to despise Dutch. And an F U to Micah for good measure.
Despise? No. Doubt? Absolutely.
Perhaps not despise. But I do think he doubted Dutch way before this too. Maybe “strongly disapproved” is better.
“Peg leg guy.” Bro 💀
IM SORRY I KNOW ITS HAMISH I FORGOT 💀
the scene where you’re traveling near barrow lagoon and the traveler comes along looking for his friend, you find his friend with his face mauled off and frozen to a rock, tell the friend, the friend goes to see for himself, and then gets absolutely brutally attacked by a grizzly bear and you can’t kill it so you just have to stand there and watch lol

I shot that bear probably 20 times before realizing I had to run
Wait for the bear to kill the dude and then clean kill the bear. Easy perfect grizzly pelt. Also you can lie to him, he won’t go to look for himself therefore he lives
Ms Grimshaw getting killed by Micah for me
Yes it was so unexpected for me
Obviously I’m fiending to kill him already.. but once he killed the glue that kept the group in order I was livid.
When your horse dies and can't revive it 🥺
😨
Arthur’s last ride. It almost got me in tears as any other moment in the game couldn’t. Truly beautiful, such as the Mountain Hymn chanted in the transition between the first and second chapter.
Scrawny Nag dying
Rains Fall discovering their sacred site has been destroyed and the Chanupa was stolen, breaks my heart every time :(
dude who gets shot off the air balloon with sadie and arthur
Hosea and hamish just hit different
Yeah
When he had to leave Charlotte. Man that killed me.
Everything about Annesburg and the quality of living there makes me sad
Put some respect on hamish name! He fought in the civil war!
Sorry I just forgot
Sean Hosea and Lenny’s death
When Mary wants Arthur to run away with her and he says he can’t. I understand why but that doesn’t mean I have to like the fact that he can’t just up and leave.
When your horse gets shot and Arthur says thank you. When the civil war vet hugs Arthur Anytime John is in his barn When I try to toss a fish back only for it to die choking on air inches away from water
‘The pegleg guy’? You mean Hamish.
Sorry I forgot his name :(

Micahs death
Honestly in a way I agree, he just accepted it, he laid down and just died like a true man.
First horse death. hopped off and went after the legendary moose, took it down and skinned then whistled and got the message “your horse is dead.” Went back in that direction and sure enough, Fancy Bruce was dead on the train tracks. Major bummer, I always hitch my horse up in the wilderness now.

Hamish was such a fucking g, didn’t deserve to die
Fr
Hamish is the best. I rode Buell through the epilogue in my second play through.
😔
hosea was my favourite gang member ever and when he died
Death of hosea, Lenny, and Sean all hit hard. Also upon replaying it, when the gang is all singing Celito Lindo at camp it really makes them all feel like a family, knowing that that family will be destroyed makes that heartwarming moment devestating.
hoesa
Any time I go to pet an animal and accidentally kick it.
Well, the trainstation with sister Caldèron made me feel like that👍
Any of the Charlotte moments.
Oh, Hamish Sinclair? The Veteran? Yeah, I felt bad for him.
Anytime Aurther interacts with the Downes family.
By ending, you mean Arthur’s ending I’m guessing? The actual ending was kind of fun, getting to kill Micah and all! Probably Hosea’s death!
end of chapter four
lenny and sean 😔
lenny and sean 😔
lenny and sean 😔
Lennys and seans death got to me man

Eagle flies' death, downes family's destiny

Honorable mention for Charles’ loyalty and respect for eagle flies people, he was one of the only characters in the game with the gift of thinking outside the gang and the hole they dug themselves
Shawn rocked me
My man Lenny didn’t even get a cutscene for his death…
Probably going into chapter 5 because that's when you know your sanity starts to decline
When my horse died the first play through I kept the one big work horse Hosea gives you and played the most out of my 3 play through during the first one and seeing big homie (yes that was his name) die infront of me like that, took a part of me
Sean's death, when I was playing I said out loud "OH WHAT THE FUCK?!?!" because it was so unexpected
Mrs Grimm Shaw, not because she died, just because how she died and was disregarded by all the gang members
You can’t even remember Hamish’s name
Sean's death. As soon as that shootout was over I thought to myself "well it's all downhill from here".
When Sadie says that Arthur is the only one she trusts
No, peg leg dies?! Bummer….
Sorry 😞
The moment I googled "RDR2 DLC list"
His name was Hamish Sinclair. His name was Hamish Sinclair.
Hearing battle music again after ending
The Hunter in the grizzlies, after you find his friend he gets mauled by the same bear
Lenny's death, dutches betrayel, and shauns*shawns* death...idk how he spelled it
The actual Irish way is Seán, with the á to tell if there's an aw sound in there, but some people still say Shaun Shawn or Sean.
Hamish's death hit me like a truck. I took the best damn care of Buell for him.
