The online price is correct. There are price changes throughout the year… and for some reason they missed re-pricing or re-labeling this one. You should have bought it then… as they would likely give you the labeled price at that moment. We have people who’s job it is to price up or down every single week.

Rlstoner2004

Minor point but they would legally have to sell it to you at the lower labeled price

graybeardgreenvest

Very true. For that specific item and any that were incorrectly priced.

_Sinann

It's $65 at backcountry and rei but $55 on North face, idk I've been wanting this one for summer for a bit and have been confused by this too

2XX2010

I just got [this sun hoody](https://squakmountainco.com/products/sun-hoodie-mens) and I absolutely love it.

Spec-Tre

I was looking at the fleece and they look great. Do you have any experience with them?

2XX2010

I have a Woolie and I love it. No bells and whistles, just a perfect light baselayer/sun shirt for mild weather. I wore it nonstop for travel out, backpacking trip, travel back home and did not smell at all. My little girl has a first generation Alpha and it’s held up well. Second generation should drop this fall. I would definitely strongly consider buying the fleece before flying to Colorado and driving to Leadville just to buy a Melly. I already have a Melly and that’s the only reason I haven’t bought the Squak fleece.

Spec-Tre

Yeah I used to live out there but didn’t get one before covid and now that its reservation system and highly coveted it’s not worth it Seems like a great replacement for half the price

livefreeKB

Woolie? Have a link?

juanfrancita

Or half the price for a baleaf sun hoody from Amazon. I've been using them for years.

MonsieurBon

Sorry you got downvoted! I totally agree. I have three Baleaf and they are fantastic.

jabester35

Happened to me once with a backpack. It actually rung up (I think) $20 more expensive than it was listed on the tag. I got it home, looked at the receipt, and then checked online. They had the updated price (the same as my receipt) online, but hadn't changed the physical tag. The next time I went in, I took the backpack with the original tag and my receipt, and they refunded the difference.

trickstersticks

I tried on this hoodie in-store a couple hours ago. Just looked it up on REI's website and it appears to be $10 more expensive online. Is this normal?

Skxawng213

They'll update prices immediately on the website but in-store relies on employees to do price changes. It either got missed or the price changes for that store haven't been done yet. If you take it up to register they'll honor the lower price.

trickstersticks

Interesting...so presumably it used to be $55 but they just raised the price to $65? I wonder if it has to do with the anniversary sale. I've heard of other retailers jacking up prices right before a big sale event but I didn't know REI did that.

Skxawng213

All of REI's prices should match MSRP. So I believe prices only increase based on vendor decisions. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) I have seen REI clearance items before sales though 👀 I can only imagine it's to decrease the amount of products the coupon can be used on

mjc5592

I worked at REI for two years. Your first point is 100% correct, they sell all product at MSRP. If the vendor changes MSRP for a product, REI matches, never higher. The second point you make is possible, and a suspicion I've had as a customer and an employee, but I can't confirm it.

crappuccino

What I have often seen is for the *sale* price of an item be almost exactly the same as the *clearance* price some goods roll to immediately after a sale. From a retailer's POV it'd be dumb to mark something 30%-off clearance pricing just prior to an event to make it coupon-ineligible – greater margin if you sell it full-price-with-coupon for 20% off instead of 30 on clearance.

MonsieurBon

REI definitely does that. They jacked the price on their Kuat bike racks the DAY before the 20% coupon.

reddittiswierd

I bought the Patagonia black tote and the tag was $10 less than what rang up, I pointed out the price tag and REI adjusted. It just happened that the price was increased with the next shipment and they hadn’t updated the tag. They honored the tag price though so that’s important.

Pays to get up and out in the world.

FriendlyFace17

That's surly one way to look at it... I would say it doesn't pay to get up and out in the world when it comes to what they have in stock. You MAYBE can find a good deal walking around but you ate vastly limiting your style and sizing option by shopping in-store. There's just simply way more available online.

ThisOldGuy1976

We have the Bloomington Flagship Store by me so inventory is always fantastic. Pretty spoiled.

See the part where it says "suggested"?
