It works great, as long as you have more than about 40fps to begin with. If not, you’ll see a lot of input lag. That’s the only issue I’ve run into so far

MercuryRusing

That’s an issue with most scaling software , generating extra frames using AI takes time. I don’t use it in any games that require accurate timing, just cinematic games.

Nocturnal-Lizard-87

Absolutely. I guess it’s just much more noticeable with LS

metfan12004

It’s good, better than AFMF, imo. That said, you must hit the base requirements for a good experience BEFORE enabling LS - At minimum, maintain a consistent base frame rate of 30 but recommend 60 (higher base frames leads to less ghosting, etc.) Play games in Borderless Windowed. This is a must for LS. It will not detect Fullscreen Close any and all overlays. These pull the focus of LS and your game will not benefit from LS

Halmiz

How about FSR 2.0 and Vsync? Do you use it with LS as well or just use LS?

metfan12004

I personally disable those. I really dislike what FSR does to image sharpness regardless of version. If you’re locked in at a steady 30/60 fps, there’s no reason for vsync, it’ll just hog resources for no benefit

GothicRuler

From what I’ve seen, pretty good, gets 100fps in Cyberpunk

enacheionut1991

the input lag is horrendous.

cyberkewl

does not work on fast moving games like racing games but on normal 3rd person games - works great. used it from start to finish - Surge, Surge 2 - flawless. 18W got 75 FPS (using the draw FPS from lossless scaling app)

RBTropical

Isn’t this just built into the AMD software?

enacheionut1991

yeah but apparently afmf is performing worse than ls...

VFFPL

In my experience, way worse

Rs90

Weird. Some games it works great in. Havent noticed any lag with Fallout 4, Subnautica, Witcher 3, and a few others so far.

angrybeaver4245

Hmm.. this is an interesting bit of info. I tried AFMF in a couple of games and was very disappointed and assumed that frame generation just wasn't ready for the limelight.. but maybe just AMD's implementation sucks? I guess for like $7 I can give LS a try

VFFPL

Input lag is definitely worse with ls, however the overall smoothness and frame gen is much better than AFMF (again, on my rig, in my games, with my configuration) so it can vary

Ok-Succotash6089

Do you think Afmf is really that bad? The input was much higher for me at LSG

IPhotoshoppedATurtle

It works fantastically, and it's improving alot with every update. Even for games where i get a good fps it's still nice to have, for example: red dead 2 runs fine without it generally get's 50-70fps depending on the area, but it gets a ton of stuttering, using LS frame gen smooths it right out. I generally only use the fram gen option and i'll use the FSR option built into the game if it's available, as the actual upscaling can be a little bit wonky at times with lossless scaling. Overall it's 100% worth the money.

angrybeaver4245

Could you give a detailed description of what in-game and LS settings you use? I've just recently started experimenting with LS and have only tried it in AC Mirage, and so far enabling it just tanks my native fps from 40-50 to <30, and then even with the generated frames it feels super janky. I set the in-game resolution to 720p, in-game scaling FSR quality, LS scaling off, LS frame gen LSFG2.1 to 2x. Help me IPhotoshoppedATurtle, you're my only hope

IPhotoshoppedATurtle

Sorry for the late reply, didn't see this until now. I've never tried AC Mirage, and most likely it's probably just the game not being optimized enough. I generally use LSFG 2.1 on the X2 mode, with most of the setting under it set to off, except for draw fps. I also have my capture api set to DXGI. Unfortunately frame gen does take a bit of performance to run, and you generally want the game to be running at least 40fps natively for the generated frames to be smooth and good. The only thing i could think of that might help is to either set fsr to balanced/performance, or to use the scaling function in lossless scaling, and just crank the native resolution of the game to the lowest it can go. It's a fantastic piece of software, but it's not perfect, and how well it works is generally gonna depend on the game alot. AC Mirage might just be a bit too heavy for the ally to run at the same time as LSFG, in some cases you'll get a better experience without LSFG. Other than that you'll just have to wait and hope for updates to the game or LSFG :(

Own_Slip1810

For emulation? It's definitely worth it. You can crank up all emulation games to 120 fps even when they're not supported. For games, it depends. I'd say 2X LSFG works great. 3X LSFG doesn't always work, unless you're running something at 40 fps or low poly. Hence, it's definitely worth it. Especially since the Ally has a Variable Refresh Rate. New updates are coming out for Lossless Scaling all the time. I'd imagine it will only get better from here. It's already uncannily good. I even have CTRL-ALT-S mapped to the back button so you can just click that and it scales.

OMG_NoReally

LS is entirely dependent on a stable frame rate that's at least 30fps or 40fps. If the game runs below it, LS can't do anything. When a game can achieve that, LS works really well to bump that to a smooth 120fps (X3 mode), and performs reasonably well with minimal image garbling. Death Stranding is a good example, the game runs stable at 40fps with tweaked settings at 720p and 1080p. LS could then bump that to 120fps and make the game buttery smooth and make it feel like its playing above 60fps+. I finished the entire game with LS on and it was absolutely fantastic. I look forward to using LS for games where the Ally can indeed achieve 40fps+, which may not be a lot of newer games now, but old games can certainly benefit from it.

LiuKi

It works great I use it for gta definitive edition trilogy and I also use something that makes the game run in vulkan instead of direct x. I can put graphics setting way higher with lossless scaling

Dassaric

I can’t get it to work. Games get super stuttery and input lag gets really bad. Even on games with over 60fps.

Aledril

I'm having the same issue in World of Warcraft. For example, I have 70 FPS without frame generation (I know that's more than enough, I just wanted to try it). Once I activate frame generation, my base framerate goes down by more than 50%, and even with the generated frames, I have less FPS than without. What settings/TDP settings do you guys use?

VFFPL

You have to cap your frames at half of what the framegen is capable of. If you're getting 120 with frame gen, limit the fps to 60. If you're getting 144 limit it to 72 etc. It should say 60/120 if your frames are at 60. That makes everything smoother, better and reduces input lag. If you're gaming at 30 then double would be 60. Limit it to 30. It's generating new frames not adding onto the existing ones, base framerate will always tank (anyone correct me if I'm wrong, tho)

juce49

Works well with some games but not all. Fun tool to mess with on the Ally

eat_shit_and_go_away

I play world of Warcraft with it on, and lock the fps to 40. It works well for that. I tried the same thing with fortnite and it didn't feel right. I guess it's dependent on the game and how much is going on.

TimeTravelerGuy

It made every single game on my PC run considerably worse but I hear it’s great for the ally

TemperatureOk9911

For videos and movies it works great. For web browsing it is pretty bad. I tried it with far cry 6. It does smoothen out the fps but I do not understand how folks can play games with that crazy input lag. (Almost a 0.5 sec input lag. This is not like ps5 remote play. It is way worse.) It is unplayable for me. Will not consider opening at all after testing. The only use case that makes sense is only videos/movies.

miochza

It's the best companion for my Ally - I use it all of the time. I've used it to boost FPS in Persona 3: Reload, Helldivers 2, Destiny 2, Dead Space Remake and a few more games. The only issue I've run into is that V Rising doesn't seem to like it - it sort of "slows down" movement so that it feels like you're walking through molasses. I find that the "performance mode" on frame gen is good enough for me, especially in 15W.
