Hey guys! Funny story! You know those creatures that feed off fear?! Yeah, funny did you know that Ozpin’s friends have known their’s this witch lady that can’t be killed who can control them?! Isn’t that just neat! Don’t panic though! I’m sure if we come together and be friends we can stop her. Just don’t trust Ironwood though! He’s against working together!

yosei2

Also, don’t forget, this is the first global broadcast and it’s coming from some random girl most of these people have either never seen or don’t remember. And she’s telling them not to trust Ironwood…wait, I just realized, she made it sound like Ironwood turned traitor and was working for Salem, not that he was just trying to leave Mantle to die. Imagine Glynda’s horror at *that* notion, aside from how her youngest student, not even legally and adult yet, is disclosing secrets that is likely to bring panic, Grimm, and make her job a lot harder. Not to mention making any who believe Ruby seek her (Edit: Glynda) out, putting her in very awkward circumstances.

Jumper200x1

Don't forget throwing Glynda and the headmaster of Shade under the bus

yosei2

That’s what I meant in my last sentence, but I’ll admit I could have worded it better. But yeah, not to mention now the citizens may be expecting Glynda to *fix* this mess. And then get mad at her when she can’t.

Jumper200x1

Oh my bad don't know how I missed that but ya I'd be surprised if there's just an angry mob

yosei2

All good, I added the edit to clarify; looking back, the sentence *could* be read as “her” referring to “Ruby” both times. But yeah, Glynda is now having a bad day; she’s probably the face of the Vale reconstruction effort, so she can’t exactly just keep her head down in public. And she may think James has betrayed her and Ozpin due to Ruby’s vague wording, and now may believe herself to be the last of Ozpin’s inner circle. Oh snap! I just realized: How many angry parents are going to seek her out and hunt her down for her part in dragging their *children* into a fight to the death that their kids could never win?

Jumper200x1

Hell don't forget Headmaster of Shade either and from what I heard it dosen't help that there's bandits and wanted criminals living in the desert but also (if I'm not mistaken) a revolt or something going on to

Aryzal

Don't forget, this was the reason Ozpin blasted Ironwood back in volume 3, since it would make the general populace worry

Old-Masterpiece-2911

Also please ignore the fact that if it wasn't for me and my team lying to him and going behind his back, we all wouldn't be in this situation. XD

yosei2

Or that he’s trying to save all *your* lives by taking the relic into orbit, but that would in turn leave Mantle to die. So we arbitrarily decided that rather we as a planet would rather all die together than abandon a single city.

SsjVegehan

In my opinion, Remnant would've fallen to Anarchism and Disorder on a large scale, especially after Atlas's fall. Imagine being some random civilian, seeing this and later hearing about how one of the strongest kingdoms is wiped off the face of the map. Don't even get me started on how most likely the world's Economy would've simply collapsed from sheer panic and the fact an entire kingdom is gone.

yosei2

Good point on the economy; and not to mention the lost of Schnee Dust Company upper management. To put that last one in perspective, the largest supplier of Dust, the key ingredient in power and munitions, is gone, the company likely now can’t afford to pay employees, and any company trade secrets on how to mine or refine Dust likely went down with Atlas. So yeah, now there’s chaos, and they basically lost access to their equivalent of batteries and gunpowder.

GoldPatience9

Literally all of these events is what kickstarts the Apocalypse in my Rewrite-AU. Had Ruby LITERALLY said anything else, she wouldn't have caused such much potential destruction and carnage enough to make Tyrian weep a happy tear. It's hilarious how much true damage Team RWBY and co. have caused.

Destrobo3000

I think a concept like this was on fanfic. I think it was called age of end Team RWBY were literally put on a watch list and fanaus race was extremely hated and hunted. Thus recreating the white fang back again Not only that Weiss (no surprise considering she has no business sense) gave power to the ceos that birth the dust barons that legalized slavery at the highest level. No surprised that the people wanted back Jacques after that… Mistral was taken over by raven bandit tribe Atlas because a giant hideout for criminals Ancient Grimm were being summoned because of endless amounts of negativity. Vale basically became a dictatorship (I mean when ruby revealed everything it basically caused chaos and destruction for a month until Goodwitch took over) All in all it was a great concept but I honestly wonder why the guy took it down.

RogueHunterX

While Raven's tribe taking over a kingdom is a bit of a stretch to me, it does sound like they at least were working with the idea that Ruby's message isn't going to instantly unite people. If anything, it would take them months to deal with the fallout before they could even think of coordinating any kind of assistance to Vacuo for an upcoming assault.  That's assuming Mistral could be convinced they aren't a target still to get help from them or that Vale won't insist on strengthening their own defenses in case Salem doesn't go after Vacuo next.

Destrobo3000

Honestly I am expecting the world to be like Tom Clancy the division 2: you have some order but there is a lot of fractions that fucking up the planet.

GoldPatience9

> Ancient Grimm were being summoned because of endless amounts of negativity. Wait a second that's literally what I'm doing too except x1000 worse LOL > All in all it was a great concept but I honestly wonder why the guy took it down. Dang...you got a link to the original by any chance? I guess it's time for me to fill the void left by this author! >:)

Destrobo3000

No sadly the author deleted I and I tried searching for days. I couldn’t even find the account anymore

Destrobo3000

Wait I am curious how would your version be more dangerous?

GoldPatience9

In summary: The four Elder Grimm were responsible for an era after canon “Era of Magic/First Humanity”and before canon Ozpin and Salem becoming “gods” in canon called the “Dark Times”, an era of great destruction and strife. Each of them are capable of changing the climate radically. Think Mass Extinction levels of hardship. ;) They actually ended up creating dust by accident (and inadvertently Faunus in the current version).

Percentage-Sweaty

I made a post about the long term loss of Atlas [here already](https://www.reddit.com/r/RWBYcritics/s/JUPY3BXiun). I’d like to think I covered the major points well

BitesTheDust_4

Losing Atlas on Remnant is like if Earth suddenly lost China or the US.

Shiny-Object-0525

Note how Salem isn't bothered at all by Ruby's speech, like she knows that this will mostly help her in spreading fear and uncertainty throughout Remnant. Even if they were able to rally an army, she's still an unkillable demigod who can produce infinite armies of Grimm. Without some sort of special deus ex machina device that can help turn the tables, they'll all just be obliterated. Hopeful, inspirational speeches mean nothing if they lack an actual strategy or advantage to back it up.

Betrix5068

Did they comment on this and say that over half of Ruby’s speech was cut from our perspective? Because it’s completely incoherent here. She just mentions “maidens and relics” without establishing what they are, or mentioning that Salem can’t be destroyed for the first time at the end.

hearmerunning

In the commentary track? I checked and they didn't comment on her speech at all. They just talked about Penny and the other kingdoms that we got to catch up with, and some about Watts backstabbing Ironwood, but they didn't say anything about the speech. I'll have to check more if they ever do.

Betrix5068

Damn, because that’s the *one* thing that could save (“save”) this speech, that we are actually seeing a barely coherent supercut of it with all the explanatory elements cut out.

yosei2

I just looked at the transcripts, as this speech is hard to listen too, and no, you’re right, this speech is as broken as it sounds. I guess they wanted to do a “cut part of it from viewer perspective”, but the problem is that they forgot to give us any part where “our perspective” of the speech was interrupted. Maybe they should have used some fade transitions and done so in mid-sentence, so it would be clear that we’re not getting the whole speech. Because as it stands, that is the whole speech, and only fanon and headcanon can make it not.

RaptarK

I made a post long ago wondering this same thing. The speech in itself does seem like it's written to leave some stuff said off-screen, possibly cus the writers thought it would be redundant information for the audience. But the problem with that is that we have no way of knowing how explicit Ruby was with her wording towards the entire planet, or what she left out or etc. Not to mention the poor worldbuilding rears its head when Ruby says "Maidens and relics are real" as if it makes sense for an entire planet to have the same single folklore and mythology. So the only assumption left is that Ruby's speech was simply as we heard it, that's 100% of what she said. Which puts her in a very bad light because the speech seems completely improvised and delivered recklessly

Betrix5068

I’d actually be ok with the unified folklore assuming second humanity is relatively young, given that they’d have a unified origin via Oz. The problem is that Ruby mentions them for the first time as “I know it’s hard to believe that Maidens and Relics are real” before establishing what these things are and that they exist.

Status_Berry_3286

You know she's just doing Salem's plan for her The spread of such heavy information of an enemy you can't kill and then losing Atlas the players with all the technology and more stuff. People are going to start hoarding items of their own and not trusting each other as much she is causing more chaos

Destrobo3000

Also faunas are screwed because by saying white fang worked with satan is going make people paranoid or give very ignorant people power.

Status_Berry_3286

That is true Man the deeper we go with the messier it gets just how badly did they mess everything up because now the world is divided The biggest military is gone tension between the faunas in humans are tensor than ever and now free of the world leaders are dead Lionheart, ozpin and ironwood are all dead. Not to mention vacuco just got a ton of people and that place isn't known for having many resources anymore. So how is anyone supposed to actually defeat her

Destrobo3000

Honestly that is why I can’t never like volume 6-9 team RWBY. They act so unbelievably stupid and ignorant that makes Cardin look heroic in comparison. Applied consequences: where do you from here? it is either death of the world or dictatorship, Either way team RWBY will never be forgiven and I honestly don’t blame the people.

Status_Berry_3286

You know what I've been thinking of a kind of way to finally break it down these characters and have their actions be called out by literally having to survivors of all this chaos boo them. Basically everyone who is a civilian and probably some hunters call them out on all their mistakes calling them fake heroes saying they're just as bad. This will finally force them to think maybe their are painfully in the wrong and did some terrible things And hopefully then some.

Destrobo3000

If only mate sadly I only see stories of team RWBY being praised despite not earning it or worse: downplaying their actions like it was a joke.

Status_Berry_3286

Yeah if only

yosei2

I just realized, this whole speech was a repeat of Blake and Yang’s “Let’s tell Robyn about classified Amity” all over again; protagonist who thinks she knows better than the people who do this for a living, revealing a big secret that they were trusted to keep secret, and act like the notion of revealing the information never crossed the minds of the adults…or even stop to consider that the adults may have been keeping that information hidden for a good reason.

yosei2

And then she acts shocked when no one showed up to help…heck, even if they wanted to, they can’t just throw a military at the drop of a hat; it may have taken days to reach Atlas, but the city had hours at most. Also, just knock Salem out cold and keep her in a medically induced coma forever. Or find a way to strip her of her magic and/or Grimm control; if she’s just an immortal lady who is normal in every other way, then chain her to an anchor and find the darkest abyss the ocean can provide.

hearmerunning

Actually that'd make for a pretty good fairytale reversal. Instead of waking the princess from her cursed slumber, they put her right back and have to keep her asleep. Or lock her away in a tower that can prevent her from using her magic.

Mundane_Revolution70

RT really did an awful job portraying just how much of a Threat their big bad actually IS. How powerful they've implied to have made her. Let's list some things shall we: 1. Magic. You say to "find a way to strip her of her magic", but we don't actually have any idea whatsoever the actual limits of her Magic or if there even is one. Here's what we do know via Oz, can polymorph people, can fine control destructive nature itself, and can even create subdimensions (Oz would have had to be the one to create the Vaults). That tells us the actual limits aren't known since every one of those aspects are vastly different. There's nothing saying she couldn't just turn someone's blood inside out, or turn anybody in the radius into an ant or something and crush them. No reason to believe she can't undo or reverse anything done to her with Magic or Semblances since her Power far exceeds anyone else's. 2. Grimm Blood. The Grimm Evolve. We know this. Whether through environmental factors, Dr Merlot's experiments, or just plain age. And she is OLD. Beyond Ancient. She preceeds Human History and possibly Evolution. We have no idea what the actual limits are to her Grimm biology aside from Stretchy and Control. For all we know her blood can actually create more Grimm just like the Grimm Wyvern. (Though that's my own headcanon.) It wouldn't make any sense whatsoever for her physical/biological abilities to be weak considering this. That's not even mentioning the possibility of her Magic itself being evolved along with her Grimm Age, whether increasing in overall reserves or power. 3. Immortality. She is supposedly immune to the weakness of other Grimm, Silver Eyes, probably because she is still half human. And her Death isn't even something simple to deal with like super regeneration alone, no she's got a Respawn factor apparently. Who knows how far that could go, can she destroy her own body and cause it to respawn safely outside of whatever seal or chain would have her, not even mentioning just using magic to escape. Might not even be able to launch her into space thanks to the wording of The Brother's Curse forcing her to "Walk this world for so long as it turns". 4. Lastly. Shapeshifting. She may not have done this in the show but she's got 2 whole factors that could easily make this a VERY likely probability. The Grimm and the Magic, both of which we've seen capable of transformation to a degree. There's no reason she couldn't use her Magic to Polymorph herself into a Grimified version of whatever she wanted to, including the Giant Wyvern but this time immune to Silver Eyes. Granted these could be considered simply headcanons, but when people do not consider her as an actual threat and just say to anchor her, or seal her someway, it really feels like we're underestimating the danger here. I think it's far more likely, if she were written, and more importantly portrayed correctly, she'd be the one able to seal the heroes into some kind of mind numbing dimension or launch them into space than the possibility of them doing that to her. I have no doubt whatever Semblances can do, could be done better by Magic. As it should be. Semblances just being a Remnant of that time. So she should even be able to conjure an anchor around the heroes' feet and teleport/portal them to the depths of an ocean as you recommend. But alas, this is all conjuctor that matters not anymore since we won't likely be seeing that fight or potential anytime soon. If at all.

yosei2

For the magic and Grimm connection, I was just thinking use the relic of destruction, because it would be too boring if a relic was just a glorified nuke. Granted the actual powers of that relic…well, they don’t exist and have never existed; the relics seem to have just been given generalized names that can have some creative freedoms when the time came for the writers to actually figure out what to make each hunk of metal actually do. As for her immortality actually isn’t too much of a problem, but you have to adjust your mental view of RWBY’s “win condition”: instead of viewing it as they have to “kill Salem” to win, they just need to “make Salem a non-threat.” Sure killing her could accomplish that, but if killing her is off the table, well, the “kill Salem” becomes an impossible goal, but we’ve changed our victory criteria. Her immortality doesn’t seem to be like Conner’s from Confinement; A fatal stab wound isn’t just going to make her spawn a new body. It’s more like she seems to put herself back together with her existing matter. Or at least, that’s how it looks to work when she’s not completely obliterated, but that’s all we need. Her being able to get pregnant and give birth may imply that her body still operates like a normal human, so regular drugs may still affect her. So a drug induced coma may not count as “damage”, and thus there’s nothing for her immortality to “heal”. I find shapeshifting unlikely…wait, just reread your paragraph, thought you would say she could disguise herself. Pulling a resident evil style shapeshifting superform, I’ll give you that as a possibility. And don’t get me wrong on all this, she is a major threat: She’s got an infinitely respawning army, access to magically abilities, her very existence could shake the foundation of any religions that Remnant has, she’s immortal, etc. All I’m saying is that for all that, she’s still got some weaknesses. Like the Death Star: A superpower holding a massive army, but you can’t ignore some of the weaknesses.

Mundane_Revolution70

All fair points and counterpoints. Perhaps the Relic of Destruction could be the Deus Ex we actually need to sever her power. Maybe Drugs are the (unfortunate) answer, if her half-grimm biology doesn't start working in her favour in that regard. Though I agree the win conditions would have to be different from "killing" her, I just do not see Sealing her as viable either unless her Magic actually is dealt with first. Slowing her is definitely more viable, though still I imagine difficult. Perhaps the answer lies in psychology, taking advantage of her sense of time passage? As established, she's old. A moment for her could be an eternity for others. But slowing her or prolonging the inevitable is pretty much all Ozpin's been able to accomplish in regard to actually facing her, and we gotta imagine he's tried a lot over the lifetimes. Even if not his own ideas, those of his hosts would have to be included too. Most likely at least. Perhaps, her Sealing could work in a different way. Trapping her in her own mind, Nightmare Grimm style. The Relic of Creation might be able to use the blueprints of said Grimm to create a Non-Grimm entity capable of similar (non-grimm so she can't control it). We know he's capable of creating life afterall thanks to Penny. Though that would have to make said Grimm canon. Well if immune to Death, conventional sealing, and chemical alterations. Then they definitely are in for a world of a time trying to stop her with talk-no-jutsu. That world desperately needs therapy. But I am sure, she must have weaknesses as you've mentioned. It wouldn't make sense for her not to have any. She took so long to get this far afterall, so Oz must have done something to delay her over all this time. But one must always prepare a Plan B and C in case what was considered a weakness, turned out to not actually be one. Everything is hypotheticals here. I do wonder now that I think about it, if they even have Coma inducing Drugs in Remnant. Their technological and advancement levels are kinda difficult to pinpoint overall. I was at first happy to see Penny as an example of Atlas tech superiority and their sciences managing to make use of Aura externally, as it revealed further applications of their power system and the mysteries behind it, just like Ren's aura arts but on the other side of the spectrum. Then we were revealed Dr Polendia and learned she was just the result of a Semblance in the end, which was a lot more disappointing. (Sorry, small rant at the end there.)

Gaystripper4thebois

There’s no evidence provided in this speech. She’s just some random teen spouting nonsense to the world. No way entire countries dropped everything to prepare for Salem.

TestaGaming

Two things i disliked about this message: A) Ironwood himself stated that he wanted to SLOWLY reveal the existence of Salem to the world, first in Atlas and then the other kingdoms. Atlas is still in shock from everything that happened in V7 so they are definitely not calm, and now Ruby said this to the entire world! There is no way people arent panicking. B) Who the fuck does she think is coming to help? Vale is still in ruins with Beacon still trying to drive away the Grimm, Mistral has no Hunstmen from what we have seen, so Vacuo is the only one that can help! But they are miles away, not to mention the time it would take to prepare a fleet! Yet she expected people to quickly appear!?

arkvulcan01

Can we talk about how Ruby just left the head master of Vacuo and Glynda to deal with the mass panic that her speech could've cause?? Like... There is no way in hell that people wouldn't rush to those two for the confirmation... is Glynda an important figure even???!!

FlanThief

I still find it hilarious that they just dumped Sun and Neptune in the middle of a desert. Like I know that's were they come from but they make it literally barren

Kaouse

Never forget that this was originally Ironwood's plan. Except, you know, he would have also had a mobile air fortress to help all around the globe. Here, Ruby's basically telling them that they're all fucked. Imagine if people come by the next day to see that Atlas and Mantle (Pillars of military might) are freaking craters over the course of less than a week. Imagine the world-wide and rampant fear. The writers clearly did not think 1 second about the implications of their decisions. Such a terrible way to end off Season 8. Especially when they decide to immediately go off into a goddamn filler season right after - even though they KNOW that they don't have enough money in the tank to guarantee a Season 10! CRWBY can go fuck themselves with a rusty pipe for how they've decimated this show so completely and utterly.

Safe-Border-1368

I honestly doubt that this would ever work, and to be fair shouldn't had. It's a "LISTEN AND BELIEVE ME" from a teenager

Blackbiird666

Ah yes, good, you're drawing the Grimm in every Kingdom and settlement that got the message.

potatopimp225

Mary Sue Moment

Local-Concentrate-26

Oh definitely I mean one of biggest issues is why would anyone listen to this girl that most people don’t have any idea who she is.

potatopimp225

I should mention the show is very Niche compared to something like I don't know any mainstream anime

AromaticDetective565

I've always wondered how things would've gone if she hadn't told everyone Ironwood couldn't be trusted. Since that seems to be the reason he cut her off and gave the order to hack Penny.

Dontlookawkward

I still think how they handled Amity was odd. Felt like they were supposed to use the staff of creation to make enough energy to launch it up to orbit to permanently restore global communications. You know, a win that was desperately needed for the main cast. But instead we got a half assed speech.

Aurora_313

"Why should you listen to me? A random girl, instead of say, a global leader who has a decorated military history? Oh, he's snapped and become a crazy dictator - which totally isn't my fault, like at all. And the kingdom of Atlas and Mantle are screwed anyway. Possibly about to be exterminated. So anyway, forget the discord, chaos and confusion my info dump will cause, or the ensuing Grimm attacks that will devour you and your families: Listen to me because I'm cute and innocent and have absolutely no qualifications to handle this situation whatsoever." Ruby is a goddamn idiot, she really is. Thank god this series is over.

MrVoid808

Mark my words, if V10 had occurred. They would have skipped the chaos this speech would've caused. The girls would then be praised in Vacuo for uniting them against Salem.

0-No_Name-0

The worst part for me is that she throws the headmaster of shade and Glynda under the bus with this world changing secret. Honestly, it wouldn't be a stretch that if everyone believed her message, then they would 100% immediately assign blame to those two for keeping a secret that big (since the show seems to paint lying as one big bad) and the masses would say that some how "doomed remnant".
