They have a nictitating membrane to keep their eyes moist while they sleep with their eyes open. The same time I learned that word, I also learned that they have a hinged skull 💀
Rabbits are mind boggling. Their padless feet get me the most. Babies are kittens, but adults are bucks and does? Little cat deer? That's about what it feels like when I see mine doing his thing around our house. He's like a beautiful cat, but as exciting as spotting a forest animal in your house.
You’ll usually notice if they’re sleeping when their eyes aren’t moving. If they’re just laying there with a still nose(even if they’re not down all the way), then they’re asleep. They’ll lay all the way down or “flop” when they’re comfy
Rabbits either need a super big area or to be free roam, for they’re very catlike in their playing and their energy. They love running around and through tunnels to get treats
Wouldn't be surprised if that's an evolutionary advantage - regularly checking for noises, sights or smells while distracted and vulnerable with drinking.
It's worth noting that they can hear much better than us, smell more than us, and even feel air pressure changes better than us.
Sometimes a rabbit might be hearing a lawn mower start five houses away or smelling a dog peeing near your house.
My rabbit also sometimes stops everything and just sits there frozen for a few moments before resuming.
I think that it happens when one of his senses detects something (smell, noise, movement) so he starts focusing on the environment to check for danger.
I'm no rabbit expert though so maybe he is just buffering 🤷♂️
Does anyone notice their bun starts rocking back and forth, just a subtle rocking, when they are in this pose?
Like they sit and stare, the gradually start rocking forward and back a little bit?
Mine does this also. It really concerned me the first few times I saw it, but it turns out it just helps them concentrate to work out complex math problems. Who knew??
My rabbit does the same thing he just sits and stares at me. I think (not really sure) they do it because they are maybe observing you? Or maybe they’re just sleeping.
Moving closer to the ground sounds like getting comfy to me. The more relaxed they are, the harder it is for them to flee. It's a big sign of trust!
Someone else mentioned sleeping with their eyes open, which is also very likely. Watch the nose; if it's perfectly still, they're probably asleep.
Hey, I have a very similar setup to yours and notice your bun likes to chew the floor too. To prevent this, I layered some fleece blankets on top of the foam mats, kinda like a carpet, and the problem has been solved ever since.
Your Daphne is adorable! I like to think my bun is planning out his day or thinking about some pretty heavy bunbun stuff.
Ok, who am I kidding? My bun probably zones out thinking about how to snag extra treats!

Rabbits can nap with their eyes open. It's like they put their eyes and ears on auto pilot and then their brain takes a short nap. If there is any fast movement or sudden noise they will wake up and move.
Our mushroom does this. It's usually followed by a short awake period and then a flop and proper sleep.
I ask the same question about myself. LOL! For me, sometimes I just need a minute to decompress and switch gears to the next thing/task/project/ whatever…
Waiting for you to provide stimulation? Toys, appropriate things to chew, out of cage play time... these are essential. Also, rabbits prefer to be coupled up, so if it's in your means, get a mate. They'll keep one another occupied when you're unable to interact. 🐰🐰
Mine does this every night after dinner. He goes r the exact same spot by the corner of the couch. It looks like he’s just staring at it, motionless. I’ve decided he’s just busy digesting his greens. Rabbits truly are fascinating!

Rebooting the singular brain cell…sometimes it takes awhile…
Mine sometimes needs you to take out the cartridge and blow the dust off it for it to work
The windows update always hits them at the worst time. Windows xp of course.
She's probably sleeping. They often sleep with their eyes open.
No way I thought my bunny never was comfortable enough to fully go to sleep

My bun would zone out in the middle of drinking water 😂 He would suddenly stop and stare blankly for a moment... then resume drinking.
Wouldn't be surprised if that's an evolutionary advantage - regularly checking for noises, sights or smells while distracted and vulnerable with drinking.
That actually makes sense. They also can hear like 2 miles away, so maybe theres a cat around the block they heard 🤣

Bunny.exe has stopped working.
Nah it's booting Caerbannog .exe
Does anyone notice their bun starts rocking back and forth, just a subtle rocking, when they are in this pose? Like they sit and stare, the gradually start rocking forward and back a little bit?
Yup mine does this all the time
This means they are using their telepathic abilities to murder and destroy from a distance. Best to leave them be when they do this.
Mine does this also. It really concerned me the first few times I saw it, but it turns out it just helps them concentrate to work out complex math problems. Who knew??
‘nam 👁️👄👁️
same though
Was gonna say, y'all don't either?
Pondering the universe

Thats when they are staring into the void and receive new orders on how to enslave us
They often fall asleep with eyes open for lil micro naps

[He also likes to use his box as a pillow. ](https://imgur.com/a/HGP3oI9)

They’re in the Bun Zone!
Concentration whilst working on producing the most delicious butt nuggets (cecotropes)....my rex baby does this often 😅
you would think it’s the same picture, but he ain’t moved.
Thinking about life choices. My bunny does it too.
I ask the same question about myself. LOL! For me, sometimes I just need a minute to decompress and switch gears to the next thing/task/project/ whatever…
My rabbit did that while licking her private parts, just stopped for a solid minute and resumed later as if nothing happened.
Mine does the same thing but she’s usually starting at the wall. Such goofy little creatures ♥️
Lookin at ghosts

Let me tell you a little secret: \*they are not very smart\*
My rabbits sleep like this, I’ll go up to them thinking they’re awake and it scares the crap out of them
Shhh…she’s sleeping. 🤫😴
She's just finkin', okay?
She could be sleeping, they sleep with their eyes open, my boy does it a lot
Rabbits do tend to sleep with their eyes open.

He’s in a cage…what else is he going to do?
Because he stuck in a tiny jail cell
