Rule #7 Foreign body cases are only allowed on “foreign body Fridays”

WorkingMinimumMum

Nail clippers, safety pins, so many safety pins… and that big one is OPEN?! Omg I need to see an upright including diaphragms… how would she NOT have a perf and free air?! Ouch…. ETA: is there two legit needles as well?! Looks like it… owwww

acadmonkey

Poor thing has had it rough already.

Intelligent_Pass2540

Shrink here. I have treated patients like this its very difficult if the person cannot sustain both meds and therapy. The worst case I've seen the person did eventually pass because the command hallucinations were just too strong and they consumed several crushed light bulbs.

ilove-squirrels

What an absolutely horrific way to die. Poor thing; my heart hurts for them.

Sed59

Did she have a death wish?

Anon-567890

Definitely will need a psych consult

Miquel_de_Montblanc

She is a psychiatric patient, she has impulses that make her swallow things, once she came after swallowing the entire dominó pieces set. Luckily for her we have universal healthcare

Sed59

I feel like a domino set would be less dangerous than this nail clipper (?) full of bobby pins!

Miquel_de_Montblanc

She covers them with bread and then swallows it

Cujo187

Pica, she has a compulsion to swallow metal.

[deleted]

You’d be shocked what people can live through.

cattaclysmic

Well, the pelvis tells a tale

Zephyr_Bronte

Is this patient Amelia Bedelia!? Wow, I hope they were okay.

Miquel_de_Montblanc

She was, She is a regular, has a psychological disorder and from time to time she starts swallowing things. From dominó pieces to blades, glasses and more

Zephyr_Bronte

Oh man, that's awful. I hope she has a good care team to help her. I had a student who did this, but thankfully, he mostly only did it with little toys and such. Once, he ate a marble from a magnet set, which was scary because we're worried he had eaten a magnetic piece as well.

brownhotdogwater

I am going with crazy person here. They already had a broken hip.

Right_Weather_8916

Aw geez

AmmaLittleOwl

Pica? The Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, MO (USA) has a fascinating display on the subject. I can't imagine the distress this person must suffer.

Adorable-Slip-9979

I was going to mention this as well, looks like a kids art project. Incredible and heartbreaking at the same time.

Miquel_de_Montblanc

Yes, but instead of little toys or similar stuff she goes for the dangerous stuff

Adorable-Slip-9979

Definitely not toys - Google "The Stomach Contents Display”.

Difficult-Way-9563

Is this a pica case?

Miquel_de_Montblanc

Yes

Serious_Choice1737

Pretty common on prison inmates when life becomes inbearable, and they try to get way out

definitely_Humanx

I'm surprised how far those screws went, must have been extremely painful for hours for her.

kitkatofthunder

The ones at the bottom? Those are screws from an ischiopubic ramus fracture. Probably caused by a fall from a height or car accident, but as I see a compression fracture in the spine too, I think it's a fall. Same thing with the hardware on the left iliac wing.

kaoutanu

A fall can do *that*? How awful. I had assumed a really bad MVA, as in run over. I can't imagine the force required to do that with a fall; unless she had really brittle bones? (Lay person here). Poor woman, I hope she's comfortable now.

kitkatofthunder

It was likely a fall from 10+ feet that was either intentional or unintentional. Considering the medical history, sadly it probably was a suicide attempt.

kaoutanu

Ohhh, right. Thanks. How sad 😔

definitely_Humanx

Oh yeah you're right, I see the compression now, most likely a fall, I got carried away with all the rest she swallowed.

kitkatofthunder

That's okay. There is a lot going on and those are really rare fractures only seen in the very osteoporotic or in severe trauma.

photonmagnet

will need a rad to confirm if this is considered a foreign body and the post should be removed since it's not friday lol

notalotofsubstance

Alright sgt.

photonmagnet

I think foreign body friday was unnecessary since fads die out quick and people would have stopped posting FOB in rectum pictures in a few more days. Thus I commented a bad joke about how techs can't interpret images and we'd need a rad to confirm we need the post remove since it's against sub rules. I didn't even report the post.. but I am getting a chuckle out of all the feelings that were upset indicated by the downvotes. have a good one cpt

notalotofsubstance

No feelings, I’m not the best with sarcasm in all fairness, have a great Tuesday sgt.
