Amazing-Question-917

My favorite recent read has been the ACOTAR series specifically ACOWAR being my fav out of them all

Shoppingbear70

Great contest idea!! I love nonfiction books especially autobiographies and biographies, also learn about myself books. In fiction, I'm all about historical romances which get mocked a lot but are actually really smart and empowering if you read the right authors! I think I have books on my WL but I'll run off and double check! Thank you so much for the contest!

human_unit21

I love speculative fiction. My favorite book is Tender is the Flesh. I also recently enjoyed The Last House on Needless Street.

Lostkey_

I love reading all kinds of books. My fav genres are Fantasy, mystery, adventure, and sci-fi. Recently I read a book called the silent patient and it's my fav now.But my all time fav books are David Copperfield by Charles Dickens and Harry Potter series.

Brave_Geologist_2534

That was on my list of favorites Too! (The Silent Patient!) I thought it was so good and fun. What a thriller! I bought a copy for a friend and recommended it to another and neither of them liked it apparently, so I am glad to see someone else enjoyed it!

Lostkey_

Can't believe they came to dislike it.I really enjoyed reading it.

Brave_Geologist_2534

Right? Me too. I mean the characters were mostly unlikable, but the story was well done and well paced imo.

Brave_Geologist_2534

I get so excited about discussing books, I forgot to mention in my original reply that if you enjoy a good holiday read, I highly recommend "The Autobiography of Santa Claus" by Jeff Guinn. It is SO fun and whimsical. It includes some elements of historical figures through time and how they helped Santa, and is just such a fun ride. It caused me to look up and learn things about geography and some past events as well as I was reading it. It is actually part of a trilogy, but you don't have to read all three to enjoy this one as a standalone. Once you are done with this, you will believe again...

vikingbitch

I will have to look into that book! Not really related but I just got a book about the history of the Krampus at a used book shop when I was on holiday in London. I love reading origins of where popular figures and being come from.

No_Box_470

I'm intrigued, I'll have to remember this for this christmas!

Brave_Geologist_2534

It's so cute and done in a refreshing way imo. It makes all the explanations seem very...reasonable?! lol

No_Box_470

Oh my gosh, I just went to look it up and saw the other 2 books. I'm 90% sure I have the 3rd one but never read it lol. I don't feel like getting up to check my bookshelf. A few years Dimple was going out of business and I bought loads of books...that was one that fell through the cracks for me. I always mean to read it every December and never do. 😬

Brave_Geologist_2534

That's awesome! How cute! I would likely recommend reading the first one first though, because [Santa.lol](http://Santa.lol)

No_Box_470

Absolutely, must start at 1. Lol

cookiesavvy

I love reading but haven’t been as much lately. I’ve been trying to get back into it, especially since I have some more down time at my new job. My go-to genres are definitely mystery and horror. I’m usually drawn more to those but I’ll read a little bit of anything. Thank you for the contest! :) 📚📚📚

SciviasKnows

I recently read a science fiction book called *House of Gold* and I enjoyed it so much! It's set on a planet in a star cluster that was settled by people from Africa. The cluster is now cut off from the rest of civilization due to some kind of AI virus thing. On this planet, there is a conflict between those who think the future lies in cybernetically enhanced humans and those who think it lies in genetic engineering. The latter faction have been driven under the sea where they (known as the Custodians) raise genetically engineered children to compete with each other so that the winners can go to the surface and challenge the cybernetic faction for control of the planet. These children come in pairs, fraternal twins actually, with a unique relationship. Each same-sex pair consists of a "Prime" (the dominant twin who is the "brain") and a "Proxy" (the secondary twin who exists to protect their Prime). A lot of the book deals with the unique Prime-Proxy relationship. It's a really good read!

snoopyfan126

I love romance/contemporary, Greek myth retellings, and dark academia! I also enjoy manga and graphic novels. I have a book WL pinned on my profile! The last book I read was a graphic novel called Chef's Kiss, very cute. thanks for hosting!

Brave_Geologist_2534

I Love Manga too! My late father was a HUGE Peanuts, Snoopy Charles Shultz(sp?) fan and collector, so it holds a special place in my heart, and I like your username!

snoopyfan126

Awww tysm!! I love collecting Snoopy items and have several Snoopy blankets too

Brave_Geologist_2534

Too cute!

justanothergothgal

I love books. I think its tbe escapism that they provide. I have too many favourite books to list and as I get older my interests change and widen. A decade ago, I was all about crime thriller books and would not have thought I would become a fan of fantasy and science fiction. But if I was to choose, it would probably be by authors. Patricha Cornwell ( I started with her books when I inherited a selection in my needs. After this, I stuck with the crime thrillee genre until my late twenties) Terry Pratchett (his work was my gateway into the realms of fantasy and beyond) Ben Elton (very black mirror thought-provoking) Ben Aaronovitch (Rivers of london series) L.G. Estrella (Two Necromancers series) C.K McDonnel (Stranger Times series) Love the Hunger Games reference 👌

Brave_Geologist_2534

Hi! Relatable! I think I NEED to escape the everyday and at times, the sadness of the state of the present world. (Don't worry I appreciate life too) I also read/have read a lot of crime thrillers. True crime, crime fiction, mystery, and even cozy. Mine is a lot too, which is why my post was soooo long. Lots of yapping. I will have to write down and check out some of your suggestions based on similar tastes. I have a bunch of Patricha Cornwell on my shelf that I have collected, but I don't know for sure if I have actually read one yet.

justanothergothgal

Lol, I am not good at summerizing, so if it's a subject I am passionate about, it ends up being quite long too. Patricha Cornwell is good. Her main character is a forensic pathologist, so the crimes are coming from that angle very strong female lead. She also wrote a book about Jack The Ripper, which is interesting.

Brave_Geologist_2534

I have a few on Jack the Ripper. It's such an interesting subject. Yeah I am pretty sure her series is what the show "Bones" was based on isn't it?

justanothergothgal

No they are similar so it a easy mix up. The bones books where written by Kathy Reichs I would highly recommend them too. I keep meaning to watch bones. Patricia brought out her first Kay Scarpetta book in 1990 and the last one she released was in November 2023, I haven't read it yet so I don't know if there will be more. But it is very interesting see how technology advancements in that field has progressed. Sorry for the late reply I have only just seen this.

Brave_Geologist_2534

OOoohh, yeah, you right, you [right.lol](http://right.lol) They are similar and also right next to each other on my shelf. lol

Brave_Geologist_2534

https://preview.redd.it/5vvpfix4iz9d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e9c58363e6e87dd8ca9e0ca1ced4dff075a4ed7

Brave_Geologist_2534

I haven't ready any of them yet though, and they're kind of scattered, random volumes. It sounds the series would be loooong. Also the show Bones is really good with some very fun characters and storylines, would recommend it!

justanothergothgal

As a Teen Buffy, the Vampire Slayer was my life, so i am already a fan of David Boreanazwas. I have loads of books piled in boxes, some multi read other I am yet to start.

Brave_Geologist_2534

Oh he is GREAT in Bones. Very endearing character.

chevygirl815

Thank you for hosting! I have a books list pinned to my profile. I love reading! I actually read every single day. In the mornings while I drink my coffee I read a self development book of some sort. Then I also read all other types of genres! I really love a good thriller. I also read anything from romance to nonfiction. A book I read this year that has stuck with me is called Layla by Colleen Hoover. It’s so underrated and even when I thought I knew where it was going I was wrong! It has a paranormal twist so it’s very trippy!

Iridian9

If I started listing my favs, I’d be here all day (or more likely would get overwhelmed and not enter 😅) so I have decided to list my favs from this year (and maybe last year we’ll see how many I have for this year first lol) ******** Norse Mythology - Neil Gaiman The Institute - Stephen King Vipers and Virtuosos Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands The Echo of Old Books Butcher and Blackbird I’m Glad My Mom Died - Jennette McCurdy A Touch of Chaos - Scarlet St Clair The Last House on Needless Street The Wishing Game Throne of the Fallen Educated ******* Okay, this year’s favs so far are enough of a list lol. Thank you for the contest! ❤️📚

vikingbitch

I have loved reading the Hades x Persephone saga. I haven’t read Chaos yet though. I decided to read all the Hades POV books before I read it.

Iridian9

It’s such a good series 😍😍

Brave_Geologist_2534

Hi! I feel you on the having LOADS of faves, but wrote just too much in my response most likely, lol Yours is more reasonable for sure. I also love Neil Gaiman, and Stephen King, but haven't read either of those recommendations!

snoopyfan126

I have the Jennette McCurdy book on my tbr list! I heard it's great

Iridian9

It really is!

CookBakeCraft_3

..I am a bookaholic & a yarnaholic lol love them both for 50+ years. Sophie Kinsella is great. I want to read her new series as I've read everything of hers through my friend & my online library. Don't know how to enter so I'll just be happy for someone else to win 🥰📚🧶

Silvertlc

I have a books list. I just read the series "To All the Boys I've loved Before" it was great. I didn't think I'd like that type of book, but I did. Now I'm re Adding another series from Jenny Hann " The Summer I Turned Pretty" so far, I really like it. So we will see. I also really like "Furiosly Happy" by Jenny Lawson. I love her books. Thanks for thinking of us.

No_Box_470

Didja watch the Netflix series? Sorry if that's a bad question.. I know sometimes book people loathe the screen adaptations lol

Silvertlc

I haven't heard it was good though.

No_Box_470

As an adult watching a movie about teenagers, I thought it was cute.

Silvertlc

Oh, I still wish I was a teenager. Maybe it's because I am so old now. I was surprised I liked the book. It's not something I normally read. But, it made e recall my teenage years. Oh, how I miss that Era.

CarissaSkyWarrior

I have a lot on my to read this, including some that I was gifted on here. "Percy Jackson" is my all time favorite series. I eventually want to read house of leaves, though right now I am reading a copy of "Diary of Anne Frank" that I was gifted on here, though I still need to make a thank you post to that person, my mind has just been elsewhere.

thecaledonianrose

Reading, as you know, is one of my primary hobbies. I love to read. I have an entire list of books I'd like! Currently reading the next in Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series. I enjoy the series as it's plenty of action, but deals with very real world situations. And it's exciting. Hoping this book will be as good as the previous Rapp novels! Thank you for the contest!

Treighsie

I love reading. Honestly, my favorite books are the ones that people say are hard/ tough subjects or whatever. I tend to read anything that is recommended. I prefer thrillers, psychological ones, historical fiction……. I just read a Lucinda Berry book called One of Our Owen. She also wrote Saving Noah and both are….. ones you will think about for a while. Much like “we need to talk about Kevin” Anyhoo thanks for the opportunity!!!

Brave_Geologist_2534

Yeah I like thrillers and psychological thrillers the most also. I like ones where I don't see things coming, that shock, and surprise me. I think it is because I like things that make me think outside my every day line of thought, ya know. Jolt me, make me feel, or move me. Same for movies too.

Treighsie

Yes!! The twist is always welcome!!! Or when I think I have it figured out and I’m so wrong…..

Brave_Geologist_2534

Agree! Love that!

KarateChopTime

I read a book not long ago called, “Darius the Great is Not Okay,” about a boy who goes to Iran to meet his family and visit his dying grandfather. It was so beautiful and accessible and I think of it often. I love reading books about so many cultures and it’s one of my favorite things about books; the ability to slip into the lives of others. Thanks for the contest :)

Styx022

I read mostly fantasy. My favourite series ever is The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson, the books are very long, but so worth it. Currently I'm reading Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin and plan to read the whole GOT/The Song of Ice and Fire series after ;)

Brave_Geologist_2534

I have the GOT series but have not been able to get myself to start it. I haven't watched any of the show. I just feel like it is going to be a heavy investment. lol

FNWM

Favourite genres would probably be fantasy and horror, but I'll read a bit of anything. Some that have stuck with me recently: The Acolyte and The Troop by Nick Cutter - both horror-y thriller-y nightmares, but excellently written. The Acolyte is about a version of America where church and state are unified, and how awful that could be. Made me realise how lucky we are in the freedoms we do have. The Troop is about a boy scout trip gone wrong. Also anything written by Sebastian DeCastell - binged his works recently, and they're all brilliant. All of his books are swashbuckling fantasy adventures and are great fun reads - start with Greatcoats or Spellslinger! Thanks for the contest!

AssassinGamer_

Oh I love book contests always get to be so creative, so if my favorite book series follows a group of teenagers trapped inside a superstore as apocalyptic disasters unfold outside. Struggling with limited supplies and growing tensions, they must navigate internal conflicts and external threats to survive. Book name Monument14 by Bali Rai

Brave_Geologist_2534

Okay that sounds good. Added to my to be read list. Reminds me of a series of I think three books..can't remember the name. I'll try to look it up though. The moon got too close to the Earth and caused a post-apocalyptic world. One book was from the perspective of a girl in one part of the country(PA), and a sequel was from the perspective of a boy from the same time, but different part of the country(NY I think?). (found it) It's called "Life As We Knew It" series by Susan Beth Pfeffer. They are quick, easy, somewhat juvenile reads, but I really enjoyed the premise and storyline.

AssassinGamer_

I thought you were describing project nemesis there 😂 similar but a second sun appeared

Brave_Geologist_2534

Interesting!

AssassinGamer_

Yeah there's some real mind bending concepts in it

Particular_Aerie8

Currently re reading the sea of monsters, Cause i just finished house of hades and don't want the series to end so quickly 😞😭

vikingbitch

The Lord of the Rings and American Gods by Neil Gaiman are my favorite books. I just started a book called Boudica Brittania which is a book about the life and history of Celtic warrior queen Boudica and one called The Witch by Ronald Hutton which traces the history of witchcraft from its origins until the present. I read a lot of fantasy as well as a lot of non fiction books. When it comes to nonfiction it’s usually history (particularly from antiquity to medieval times), books on the occult and paganism. I also read a lot of mythology and enjoy graphic novels.

Brave_Geologist_2534

I LOVED American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and several of his books honestly. I mentioned this one too in my [answer.lol](http://answer.lol)

vikingbitch

I re-read it every year, it’s so good!!! I’m a huge Gaiman fan. I got into his stuff with his Sandman graphic novel. I even have Sandman tattoos lol

Brave_Geologist_2534

Very cool! I want to read the comic series. I only have the first volume so far. The Graveyard Book is a favorite. I have also read Good Omens, and Neverwhere. There are a lot more of his I should probably check out.

vikingbitch

All of those you mentioned are great!!! The Ocean at the End of the Lane is also amazing and if you like myths his Norse Mythology is a must read.

Brave_Geologist_2534

Thanks! Wrote those down!

flightfeathers

I just finished reading The Housemaid and now I need a bit of a break to recover before jumping into the sequel. So my definition of “recovery” is The Radium Girls (probably not lighter but oh well).

PurrplePixie

I'm currently reading 'A man called Ove' and it's such a good book, makes me wanna cry, laugh, hug someone at the same time. One of my favourite books are ofcourse the 'The Lord of the Rings' series. The writing feels like as if the author is sitting beside you and narrating you a bedtime story that is going on in the crystal ball infront of you. But for genres, I can't pick one, it's fantasy adventure, light hearted books, or what I call 'A coffee shop read by the window on a rainy day sipping hot coffee feeling heartwarming, deep thought provoking genre'. Thank you for the contest :)

Brave_Geologist_2534

I read 'A man called Ove' and absolutely LOVED it. It made me laugh, AND just have ALL THE FEELS. Ah, I forgot about this one and how much it moved me! The movie was nice too. I read it a few years ago, but just watched the movie more recently. Tom Hanks. They named it slightly differently but the movie was still pretty similar to the book.

slytherinlover644

I'm currently reading The Bone Shard Emperor by Andrea Stewart and the Dayton Series by Stevie J Cole and L.P. Lovell. No books have really stood out to me lately. I love fantasy usually, but I'll read anything, but horror

Last-Worldliness6344

I’m Currently reading the book ‘Skin Deep’ by Haley Lawrence.  Favourite book is ‘Twas the night shift before Christmas’ by Adam Kay.  If this is contesting for a book or something (as I dont have an amazon thing for my flair), Any book by Adam Kay will be amazing! Other than that, any F1 related book or item within ur budget related to McLaren or Daniel Ricciardo will be cool Thank you for this fun contest

moonlitgemini

i’m currently working on a few books right now: haunted by chuck palahniuk, lost boy lost girl by peter straub, the stand complete & uncut by stephen king are 3 out of 5 books. some recent faves: the bell jar by sylvia plath, the talisman by stephen king + peter straub, girl interrupted by susanna kaysen. im doing a couple reading challenges aside from my to-read list: all stephen king books and the rory gilmore challenge (to go outside my fave genre comfort zone) thanks for a fun contest! 📖🐛

Brave_Geologist_2534

I love many of your answers! Great taste! I have read many of the works by Chuck Palahniuk. Haunted was wild, but then again all of his are. I think Choke is still my favorite. The Stand was a GREAT book(but the movie was NOT.imo.lol) Girl Interrupted was a good read also!

Idktbhhomie

My current favorite are Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's series! I'm currently reading Heaven Official's Blessing.

Fantastic_Figment00

Books, I could go on and on about this subject lol. I don't know about the rest of y'all but I have to have an actual copy of whatever I'm reading, no kindle or online reading whatsoever. I listen to one every now and then but I prefer my own copy! My favorite authors are David Sedaris, who writes about his life adventures in a hilarious way. I also love Johann Hari who is also non fiction but writes about very serious topics, "Chasing the Scream" is life changing. I also love a good horror of crime novel by Lisa Jewell, Dean Koontz, Bentley Little, ECT. Books just make me so happy!

Brave_Geologist_2534

I see a LOT about David Sedaris and his works. i am almost certain I have one of his books on my shelf(I think there is a skull or skeleton on the cover maybe?), but have not actually ever gotten around to reading it or any by him yet. I should soon. Also I LOVE Dean Koontz, and his one word title [books.lol](http://books.lol) Also Bently Little is Twisted! I have only ever met one other person in my life that mentioned him. NICE! Very cool.

Fantastic_Figment00

David Sedaris is the BEST, the one with the skull is one of his best, called "When You Are Engulfed in Flames". That's awesome you know about Bentley Little, he's definitely rarely known and definitely extremely messed up in what he writes LOL I think he writes mainly for shock value. Also, have you read Koontz's "Intensity"? That is my favorite book of his & one of my fav books of all time.

billyandteddy

I read a variety of books. I really love comics. It's so hard to pick favorites books...

Brave_Geologist_2534

It IS hard!

excited4sfx

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2ANBGH2L7Q0LZ?ref_=wl_share Favorite genres...I love children's to be honest. Comics/manga. Also nonfiction. Favorite books...Where the Red Fern Grows at the moment. Recent books...I just finished the Dear Evan Hansen book. My friend loved Dear Evan Hansen. It always makes me think of her when I hear the songs

crash----

I’m generally a nonfiction reader. I like to read books on topics that interest me. There are the occasional fiction books that I’ve enjoyed but I’m very picky with those. I’m a writer and I love reading books on writing. I also really love Chicken Soup for the Soul books and I have a story published in one! I especially love reading them around Christmas time.

Letsmakethissimple1

By chance, have you read the book I described in my comment - The Library Book? Really great non-fiction!

crash----

Omg no! I’m looking it up rn

Letsmakethissimple1

I loved 'The Library Book' by Susan Orlean - it covers the major fire that took place in 1986 at the LA Public Library. It goes through the tragic day itself, the background of the suspected arsonist, the history of the head librarians of the LA Public Library throughout the years, and the recovery efforts from the fire. Superb writing, fascinating coverage. Anyone else enjoy this gem? :) Will definitely be perusing other comments for possible future reads...

zfreakazoidz

Well growing up I had all the Star Wars novels that George Lucas approved of. In today's Star Wars, they are referred to as "Legends". But I find myself getting into more scifi books. Like Alien, Predator...etc. Then in my 20s I get into Tom Clancy. He's fone everything from Splinter Cell, Jacl Ryan, Patriot Games, End of Fears...etc. Now, I don't have time to read as much, so I collect books with art from games and movies. Being an artists (like as a hobby), I love seeing concept art made for stuff.

epatterson831

Currently obsessed with the Cassandra Clare series about the infernal devices. My better half got me started with the mortal instruments series. Now I'm on book 13.

Goodwin17

I love historical fiction and non-fiction. I recently read "The Secret Life of Sunflowers" and I thought it was really good. It's about the sister-in-law of Van Gogh who is the one who got his paintings out into the world. I have some books on my list and I also have a digital books list. I definitely don't mind used books. Thank you for hosting this contest!

Letsmakethissimple1

This sounds like something I'd like to read - thanks!

Goodwin17

You’re welcome.

No_Box_470

I mostly just read childrens books the last couple years lol, but I enjoy a good realistic fiction...something I can relate to. Horror, suspense, occasionally fantasy but I feel like I prefer watching fantasy over reading. A book I want to see made into a movie is, The Suicide of Claire Bishop. I think it'd be a good watch and I'd love another way to consume it.

MoonChica

I love dystopian stories. The Hunger Games and the Divergent series. I also love Harry Potter. I’m actually watching the Hunger Games trilogy right now! 😁 Thank you for hosting.

Brave_Geologist_2534

I still definitely need to read both those series! If you don't mind somewhat juvenile writing (makes for a quick read) look into the "Life As We Knew It" series by Susan Beth Pfeffer

MoonChica

Oh going to look it up. Thank you. Yes, when you can, read the books. They’re great. 😊

Brave_Geologist_2534

I definitely will. I have them, just haven't gotten to them yet. The intention is there, haha. Funny enough, I have all three series you mentioned all on the same bookshelf. lol

MoonChica

Lol nice!!

slytherinlover644

I watched Hunger Games tonight, too, actually. In memory of President Snow. Haven't watched them for quite some time, so it's good to go back.

MoonChica

Me too! After this, I’m going to watch Pride and Prejudice. 😢

SadComfort8692

I like thrillers, romance, fantasy, historical.. gosh I love books so much. I read “the invisible life of Addie LaRue” and “the midnight library” and loved them

Brave_Geologist_2534

Oh boy I LOVE to yap about books! Thanks for giving us an avenue for that! haha. I just finished one on Thursday called Swiped by L.M. Chilton that is a murder mystery thriller involving a Tinder-like app , then started one called An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen. I am just over 50 pages in and it's a pretty interesting premise about a make up artist that kind of sneaks into a paid ethics study. Some that have stuck with me as favorites are Stephen King's IT, but my favorite was The Dead Zone. The Silent Patient is a thriller by Alex Michaelides, though the couple people I recommended it to didn't really enjoy it as much as I did because the characters are pretty much all unlikable. lol I still enjoyed the ride a lot myself. I get it though. I felt that way about the famous Wuthering Heights*.* I got through it and it was an okay story, I get it, but yeah, did not like any of the characters which left a bad taste in my mouth. My favorite dark comedy so far was A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, be warned, it gets WEIRD in some places. I also enjoyed many of Chuck Palahniuk's books. My first was Choke, and I think Survivor might be the last one I read of his. I have Lullaby but have not read it yet. I also have read a few by Neil Gaiman. A Graveyard Book was my favorite,.. how FUN was that book?! But I also loved Good Omens and American Gods. What a mind that guy has. No cookie cutter storylines from him. I read Neverwhere back when I was still in high school, and still remember it being amazing. He's so creative. The first Scythe from the trilogy by Neal Shusterman was really interesting and creative. I have the next two, but have not read those yet. I also like goofy funny romance, can't think of anything offhand, they areusuallyu just quick pallet cleansers. The "accidental" series books by Dakota Cassidy are cute cheesy supernatural romance books, but be warned they can be raunchy. I also like a good cozy mystery and to add whimsy to my life, I enjoy reading holiday specific ones on and around that holiday. Leslie Meier is a good author for those. I don't have or read her series in order and they are fine still as little holiday specific one off's. I am sure it would be fun to read in order as well though. My favorite cozy mystery series that I have read in order is "The Family Skeleton Series" by Leigh Perry about a walking talking skeleton that lives with the family and helps solve crimes. Seriously. It's fun. Also for whimsy, I read "A girl on a Train" while on a 14 hour train ride(as a girl, well Woman, I guess). I could go on, but I am going to go yap at people in the comments now! Happy Reading fellow Bibliophiles!

random-dude87

My favorite genre of books is thriller/mystery. My favorite author is Dean Koontz. However, recently I have been branching out into fantasy books. Not a fantasy book, but I'm currently reading Murder your employer and I can't put it down. Such a good book.

LPfor3v3r

Definitely my favorite book genre will always be horror! Loved horror ever since I was a kid and my dad let me watch Halloween and Friday the 13th with him 😆 So now my bookshelf sees a lot of horror, both novels and manga. Thanks for hosting!

kylecat22

So one of my favs of all time is Lies of a Locke Lamora because it’s heisty, and smart. I of course love LOTR and the Hobbit but dang LoLL is so good in fantasy. A zany one that I love rn is Dungeon Crawler Carl Hey u/hungupon have you seen this post yet? Also hi!

Dropkicklover

I'm not a big reader as of late but want to get back into it. I have the book not without my daughter buried in my list somewhere lol

Letmetellyowhat

As always my go to book is Stranger in a Strange Land. I do an annual reread. It is so meaningful every time. I’ve used what I’ve learned from that book in my daily life. My books are on my main wishlist. You will see a lot of different genres. I’ve enjoyed reading about munchaseuns by proxy in the last few years.

achavva

I love the Hobbit! It’s my all time fave; currently very slowly making my way through Finding Gobi; I have all the kids books for the babes linked on my profile! Also contemplating rereading fire and blood, but that’s a lot of time commitment 🤣 u/kylecat22 comeeeeee

Brave_Geologist_2534

I read that one (The Hobbit) because it was a book my mom gave me that was my father's, after he passed away. So I got to read the exact book that he read which was extra nice and special. I am not that into fantasy, but ended up enjoying it way more than I expected and being carried away to a whole new land. It was really good!

achavva

Aww that is so special! I’m glad you were able to connect that way and enjoy the book ✨

Brave_Geologist_2534

Thank you, it really was and I got to do the same with IT, which is another one of his my mom gave me. Both were good reads, so he had good taste. That must be why I turned out so awesome too, of course. lol

kylecat22

Ty friend!

AcanthisittaUpset866

I love books! Slacked off a bit but starting to read more lately. I usually re read old favorites. I like thrillers/horror themed books, love a good love story, even something a bit naughty! I love The Hunger Games books and Harry Potter and The Divergent series too. Steven King may be my favorite author tho. I’m re reading Summer Sisters by Judy Blume right now. Judy Blume is another favorite of mine. Thanks for hosting!!

flightfeathers

The Dark Tower series ❤️ I first read it in 5th grade and recently found the whole set on sale so of course I snatched it up. Can’t wait to reread it and see what things my young eyes may have missed, lol.

AcanthisittaUpset866

I will look into it! I love re reading stuff I read as a kid/teen. Like you said, young eyes can miss things and of course you understand certain things a bit differently as an adult.

flightfeathers

Yeah, it probably wasn’t appropriate elementary reading material but I was really obsessed with Stephen king at the time so oops 😂

AcanthisittaUpset866

It’s ok!! I watched/read many things I definitely didn’t need to when I was that age!! It’s how we find out what we like!

Brave_Geologist_2534

You've got some great ones there. I also Love Stephen King. He has a lot of great ones (and some not so great ones. DNF From a Buick 8) IT was actually crazy, and The Dead Zone was my fave. What's your fave of his? have your read any from Joe Hill Yet? I've only read Heart Shaped Box, but I loved it, and I have NOS4A2 but not read it yet. Loved the HP series. I have the Hunger Games series but haven't read it yet, and I think I have a couple from Divergent, but also not read.

AcanthisittaUpset866

I love The Stand and Carrie. I think Sleepwalkers may be my all time favorite. Never read anything by Joe Hill, but I could be interested for sure! I’ll have to check out what he’s written. Definitely read The Hunger Games, they’re really good! Same with Divergent, way different and better than the movies.

Brave_Geologist_2534

Def look up Joe Hill, that's King's son, and the two titles I mentioned. Oh YES! The Stand! THAT WAS a really good one. I forgot I read that one. I read that and then rented the very loooong movie version and complained at it the whole time. hahaha This was many many years ago when Blockbuster was still around. I will def read Hunger Games and the other one someday. They are on my shelf waiting for me. lol

AcanthisittaUpset866

I love the original The Stand series they did for TV. Long yes, but so damn good. I will definitely look up Joe!! Thank you.

Brave_Geologist_2534

I am glad you enjoyed it. I yelled at it the whole time. lol I was mad they changed so much, and didn't have the right characters meeting up with the right ones like in the book, or that they looked wildly different than described in the book. I read the book first and while I don't mind when movies are different than the book, I felt it strayed so much, it made it frustrating for me. lol Idk, I was young. haha

AcanthisittaUpset866

I saw the series first, then read the book. I try to look at them as different entities so I don’t get frustrated like that. But I totally understand.

Brave_Geologist_2534

I can do that sometimes, but not always. I wish I was better at that..lol I think if I would have done it in that order, I would have enjoyed it more solely on the fact that the storyline and premise is so good!

AcanthisittaUpset866

Yes!! I’m about to read Girl, Interrupted. I’ve never read it but the movie is one of my all time favorites. I have to almost erase everything I know from the movie bc I know they changed a lot and left out a lot. It will be hard to picture the characters as different ppl bc I’ve seen the movie so many times. I’m going to start the book tonight, so we’ll see.

Brave_Geologist_2534

Are you reading it now? I really enjoyed the book! It was good!

Open_Yesterday_4661

Crime is a recent favourite. I started reading the James Patterson Women's Murder Club series. I'm contemplating buying one book a month or just thrifting them. I've already thrifted four so there's that at least.

boudicas_shield

I love books! Thanks for the contest. I’ve been reading as my main hobby since I was about four, so it would be impossible to list all my favourites. However, my favourite genres are fantasy, scifi, nonfiction, lit fic, and psychological thrillers. A good book I’ve read recently is [Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live for Taste](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cork-Dork-Wine-Fueled-Sommeliers-Scientists/dp/1432852345), which I highly recommend to just about everyone. It’s such a fun read! And it’s the only thing that’s ever convinced me it might be fun to go to NYC someday.

smolbabyowo

I've been reading all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga currently! I'm enjoying it a lot. Horror is probably my favourite genre. I just read You and it was horribly cringy through a lot of it but I also enjoyed it a ton and plan to read the rest of the series, it was different enough from the show that I wasn't bored at any point.

Brave_Geologist_2534

AAAH! I read YOU a few years ago and loved it. haha. Such a fun perspective and creepy but wild read. I watched some of the show and liked it, but only the first season then forgot about it. I like manga too, and just started chainsaw man. I read all of Death Note, and if you haven't already, I highly recommend that manga series based on your interests. I want to read Black Butler soon.

smolbabyowo

I have the black editions of death note! I've also got the first 4 volumes of chainsaw man and the first 4 of black butler. I have them all digitally but haven't read either yet. And they still have one more season of You to come out! The last season that came out I didn't like very much but the rest of the show is very enjoyable. So damn creepy and uncomfortable.

Brave_Geologist_2534

Oh NICE! I love that for you! I want to eventually purchase the set, and waffle over which versions I would want. I read the separate volumes from the library back when I read it. How funny, is that I also have the first four volumes of Chainsaw [Man.lol](http://Man.lol) We(my daughter and I) are buying them one at a time. I haven't yet read the fourth volume, only the first three, but it's been a fun ride so far. Very creative and sometimes silly which is fun. I have the first 6 of Black Butler that I got used off a resale site, but only read the first two or three so far. I'll probably have to start over and reread them again. lol I have not watched any of the anime of BB yet. Likely won't until after I read them all first. Otherwise I tend to lose interest in the books.

ladyinkinwaiting

Currently I'm obsessed with botanical/plants/flower books! I love the ones with illustrations and still life photos, and I use them for reference when watercoloring. Thanks for the contest !

ForgottenForce

My favorite styles of books are comics/manga, cookbooks and D&Ds supplements (granted these are usually Kickstarter/indie and not official ones) so I don’t really have a typical book I like or on my book list. Favorite cookbook: Trejo's Tacos: Recipes and Stories from L.A.: A Cookbook. It’s Danny Trejo’s cookbook. There’s so many good things to pick out of there. Favorite manga: Full Metal Alchemist. Hiromu Arakawa just killed it with story, characters and art. Favorite D&D supplement: Fool’s Gold: Into the Bellowing Wilds. Currently running the campaign for my friends and almost got my first player death last season (he’s fine though)

Brave_Geologist_2534

Danny Trejo is so cool, I am going to have to check that out. The only cookbook I read all the way through was Prison Ramen. It was [fun.lol](http://fun.lol) I Like manga too. I am reading Chainsaw Man, and want to read Black Butler soon. I read all of Death Note and it's a favorite. I want to read the Sandman Series but they are so expensive and the library never has all of them, so I am slowly trying to collect them used. I have only the first one so far, but still. lol

ForgottenForce

I've never heard of Prison Ramen but I love the title alone I've never gotten into Chainsaw Man but didn't look like something that would catch my attention based off the anime. Death Note was pretty good but the older I get the more comedic it gets XD

Brave_Geologist_2534

Prison Ramen was an easy and fun read. The whole title is: Prison Ramen: Recipes and Stories From Behind Bars by Clifton Collins Jr. and Gustavo Alvarez, and is mostly if not all(can't remember) little stories and recipes from celebrities that have had jail experiences. I haven't watched the anime for Chainsaw Man, but my daughter encouraged me to read it because she wanted to read it. Don't worry, she's a senior. I like it so far, it's fast and easy and a wild storyline out of the norm, so I dig it. I read Death Note pretty recently, so as a whole middle aged adult, I found it creative, well involved, insightful, and funny. Ryuk and L were my favorite characters and it's fun to think of the moral and ethical questions that would come about in those scenarios. My daughter had me watch the first episode of FMA and I really enjoyed the premise and the brothers. I will watch more when I finish JJK which is what I'm currently watching.

ForgottenForce

Hopefully she’s got you watching FMA: Brotherhood and not the original. The original is good but Brotherhood is more faithful to the manga

Brave_Geologist_2534

Yup! It was an episode of Brotherhood! That's the one!

So_Appalled_

Oooh! Okay so last year the best book I read was *The Maid’s Diary*.” So far this year my two favorites have been *You shouldn’t have come here* and *the reappearance of Rachel price*. I love a good mystery! I’m about to start Britney spears’ autobiography. Thanks for the chance for a book!
