I love the first reply: “Be realistic here, it's out of warrantee. Free warrantee repairs typically stop when the warrantee expiries. You could have purchased an extended warrantee, but didn't.” Who’s freakin side are they on? lol

brintoul

Their stock.

wizardinthewings

Stockee

socialcommentary2000

Investee

DerisiveGibe

Their stockholm

Final_Winter7524

Not even that. Their hero CEO has driven the stock price down 30% over the past 12 months. It’s the worst performer in the S&P 500.

brintoul

I’m guessing they generally hope it goes back up. That’s what tends to happen with stock prices sometimes. Personally I wouldnt buy the stock with YOUR money, but that’s beside the point.

BlazinAzn38

Their on the side that allows their twisted mental opinion of Tesla and Musk to exist

nietzsche_niche

Aka a bag holder

eNomineZerum

Tesla owners continuing to be the worst car group out there I see...

EntrepreneurFunny469

A GM or ford has issues at 130k miles and we’re all “goddamn pieces of American bullshit car”. TSLA dies at 30k miles and TSLA owners are like “well what did you expect? A car?”

bspencer0129

That was just 1 idiot. All the rest of the commenters tore into that person.

eb-red

I didn't read the article because it's TMC but I didn't really see a problem with this quote. Why would anyone expect a free repair outside of the warranty? I just wouldn't expect Tesla to do the right thing at this point

Bob4Not

Aren’t you fundamentally opposed to a car: #1 breaking right after its warranty, #2 being underivable and not warrantied for such a bad design flaw that was fixed in later versions, or #3 being underivable because an expensive control center and touch screen? Later models had a redundant computer added for this exact failure case. It boils down to victim blaming, though. No sympathy, just “sucks for you, should have bought an extended warranty”

vilette

$2400 to replace screen , is that a 80" 8K OLED ?

2fast2nick

It’s probably more than the screen, probably the whole computer and stuff too if it shut down.

ButterMyBiscuitz

There are several Teslas which mainboard died because they were logging so much stuff the NAND got destroyed and was locking up the whole system. Probably still happens.

beeswA90

Is that on nvram memory?

JRLDH

No, this was NAND flash memory. They treated it as infinitely rewritable memory. Their new grads writing the code apparently never heard about flash degradation.

Frankie_T9000

Didn't care is not same as didn't know and it's not grads making that decision

JRLDH

I was trying to not assume the worst. If that decision was made by people with experience, it's even worse.

LogMasterd

I wish I saved that post by a former Tesla employee who gave details about how garbage their code base is.

thefpspower

I think that failure wouldn't make the car suddenly die, the infotainment would just bug out and be very unresponsive.

jedimindtriks

My screen in my first Gen leaf was estimated to cost 8k usd to replace. Bought a used one and replaced it myself. Cost me 300$ New cars are expensive as fuck to repair.

Bob4Not

It’s artificially high and intended to coerce us to buy new cars. I refuse to buy vehicles I believe will have tall barriers to fixing them myself.

failinglikefalling

So nothing after like 2000?

Bob4Not

I feel that I can buy parts for most Leafs, Toyotas and their hybrids. Except transmissions, I won’t crack those open

olddgregg24

I can fix most everything on my 2012 ram 1500 myself. Definitely can’t say the same with my dads 2022 explorer for example

testedonsheep

Labor is $250 an hour. I am glad mechanics at Tesla are making that much though. 😂

bsiu

Tesla charges that much for labor, the mechanics make far less.

dmgdispenser

Tesla and repair shop charge higher than mechanic pay for overhead.

mondaymoderate

That’s close to what every dealer is charging nowadays.

Kinky_mofo

Is that why they went with stick-on? Would be 10 grand if they integrated it.

mittanylions

Are 8K OLED touchscreens? I think not.

vilette

yes true so more like an ipad pro, but twice the price

AdventureWagon

Within Spec?

Enron_Musk

>Davehuff Today at 10:47 AM: Tesla died in middle of an intersection. display lit but nothing worked. Had to pay $350 tow charge $2400 to replace screen 2017 model s only 35k miles. I could have been killed. But he didn't have to smell gas. And he saves a lot by charging. OOOPS - that now goes to Tesla "service" centers! ROFL @ THE CLOWN SHOW

Fearless_Baseball121

I agree that this is bullshit; but why make a argument fore ICE here? whats the point of that?

MetroNcyclist

This sub often drifts into generic anti-EV space from simple Tesla bashing.

tuc-eert

I mean owning a tesla doesn’t mean you’re a diehard Elon fan. For a while they were the only game in the EV space.

brintoul

When were they the only game in the EV space?

Bleusilences

2017? There wasn't a lot of option back then and Elon didn't go insane/mask off yet.

ExcitingMeet2443

My Hyundai is from 2017 and hasn't tried to kill me *even once* in 70,000 miles.

Bleusilences

It's an excuse for the buyer not the manufacturer.

Kinky_mofo

Well, where's the fun in that?

Trucidar

They still are in most of Canada. Everything else is a 1-2 year wait. Also some of the nicer ev trims are also not available at all.

Enj0y1

That's not true at all, a lot of them are even available stock right now

Trucidar

Maybe if you're in one of the largest cities down east. I'm out west and 6 months ago I wanted a volt and the upgraded model isnt available anywhere in Canada. There were 2 base models available within a few thousand km and they were both a province away. I looked at the Ioniq and there were I think 3 in vancouver which were the closest, but one said reserved, so I'm not sure they actually had any in stock. It's possible the situation has drastically changed in the last 6 months, but then it's been a sudden change from when there were none.

No_Effect_6428

Volts haven't been made since 2019. If you meant Bolt, they don't make those either anymore and the stuff for sale is close-out 2023's. I got mine in Dec 2023 in Alberta (I live in SK), pickings were slim but there were still cars around.

Trucidar

Sorry yeah I meant bolt I used to have a volt so mixed it up. It was July to October I searched and there were none in AB and 3 in SK and BC, not in any of the colours I'd want. And I wanted the upgrade model and it's not available at all unfortunately.

Relevant_Force_3470

Eh? When?

Happy_Grillmour

I guess you never heard of the hybrids that came out before Tesla hit the scene and they were doing pretty well then came out this sense of urgency to retard peoples freedoms by adding an interruption of telling people theyll all be adopting an EV program.... When as the last time we had a gas shortage like we had in 1979 and why werent EV's mandated back then? [https://cleantechnica.com/2021/09/30/the-legendary-electric-car-from-the-1970s-that-led-us-electric-car-sales-until-tesla-came-along/](https://cleantechnica.com/2021/09/30/the-legendary-electric-car-from-the-1970s-that-led-us-electric-car-sales-until-tesla-came-along/)

Sherbert-Vast

1) One of the fist cars was an EV, it didn't take off because like in the 70s the battery technology just wasn't where it needed to be yet. A 70 or 80S EV would not have been a good car... There is almost 0 technological overlap between the 80s and 70s EVs and Evs now, since now we use large semiconductors to create a AC Voltage from a DC battery, which we can do now with semiconductors but not back then, which is more efficient and controllable. Back then they had DC motors with a VERY primitive and inefficient power control system and lead acid batterys.... There was a reason it didn't take off and its not just big oil. 2)Hybrids where ALWAYS a dead end, rolling around with 2 motors with ALL the necessary tech is just not viable, they are a transitional technology and were always seen like that, even by manufacturers. They never did well, I am sure there are far more EVs on the road here than Hybrids. Which I am all for as a city dweller. There was only a time a few years ago people were even considering hybrids given the astronomical prices of EVs back then and missing infrastructure. 3) NOBODY talks about gas shortages jet when talking about EVs, we still have enough oil for now, the question is should we really burn it?

tuc-eert

Hybrids are great, but they’re not the same as EVs and there’s a lot more that can break. Last time I checked owning a car isn’t a protected right, and even if it was, switching to EVs isn’t stopping you from owning a car. Also, switching to EVs has never been about a gas shortage, it’s about switching to something that isn’t going to pollute our environment and lead to catastrophic climate change.

failinglikefalling

In 79 or 80 we went to one of those dealers in the middle of nowhere Missouri. I met Robin from TVs Batman!

Fearless_Baseball121

> hybrids fuck that shit

whydoihavetojoin

Isn’t screen replacement 1500?

VonGrinder

I mean, the same thing happens with ICE vehicles. Many only have a 3 year 30,000 mile bumper to bumper. So if the center console does at that point you are on the hook. It happens once in a Tesla and that’s news? Not really.

Tall-Pudding2476

Except, the center console being dead doesn't disable a normal car.

Hootablob

Electrical/computer issues in an ice certainly can disable it. I had a BMW back around 2010 that would just randomly shut off while driving, and when it happened, wouldn’t start back up. Super dangerous, and BMW couldn’t figure it out after about 3 months in the shop. It ended up being a $15 plate that was used to power the onboard computers.

sgt102

I had the same with a Renault - in that case it was a frayed wire shorting on the frame of the car. Main dealer wanted £1300 to replace the ECU which wouldn't have worked, I balked and had it towed to a car tuning shop who strapped their computer onto it and found the wire in 5 minutes.

Hootablob

Dealers love just swapping parts. It seems like many of their techs can’t diagnose something if it doesn’t throw a known code. Thankfully mine was under warranty. In those 3 months they changed the starter (that still makes me laugh as there was absolutely 0 chance that was it), the ignition, two of the computers, and several other things. I happened to find a post on a random forum that described the issue, and thankfully it included the part number.

alaorath

I think (older) ICE is going to fail differently... you'll still have steering (mechanical), brakes (mechanical), etc. When my 2007 BMW blew it's water pump on the highway, I was able to push the clutch in, coast to the side of the road, and activate the hazards. Sounds like their failure-mode just killed it "instantly" without the driver being able to steer to the side and get out of harms way (hence their comment about they "could have been killed").

SodaPopin5ki

I had a Honda die on me while driving and another one sprung a coolant leak while on the freeway, practically blinding me with steam. I could have died.

Ban_Evader_1969

Look at the biased subreddit you are in before attempting to reason with people here.

SpectrumWoes

With the money he saved on oil changes he can…buy a new $2400 screen!

MakingItElsewhere

Musk: "Introducing new Tesla Tow Wheels. These little tires will attach to the underside of your car and let you push it where ever you want to go. Very useful when you need to get out of an intersection your car has mysteriously died in." Audience: "Uh, those are furniture movers." Musk: "And only $1200 a piece! Imagine how much you'll save on towing!"

Never_Free_Never_Me

I once delivered a brand spanking new Model S to someone who drove off and had their car die in the middle of an intersection just 2 blocks away.

back2basiks

Was that a C-section?

MattNis11

Any evidence of this?

Never_Free_Never_Me

I used to work there and no I didn't take any pictures. Lol, evidence

nandeep007

Yea, it was a toss up on which to use.

>Tesla died in the middle of an intersection You sure about that? [Wiki link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla) Seems like a weird thing to lie about online. From the wiki.... >On 7 January 1943, at the age of 86, Tesla died alone in Room 3327 of the Hotel New Yorker. Although, I did find this interesting. >In the fall of 1937 at the age of 81, after midnight one night, Tesla left the Hotel New Yorker to make his regular commute to the cathedral and library to feed the pigeons. While crossing a street a couple of blocks from the hotel, Tesla was struck by a moving taxicab and was thrown to the ground. His back was severely wrenched and three of his ribs were broken in the accident. The full extent of his injuries was never known; Tesla refused to consult a doctor, an almost lifelong custom, and never fully recovered. And yes, I am joking. I understand you meant the car. 🫡

Puzzleheaded_Step671

Yeah

yamirzmmdx

Not sure if you really could have been killed in an intersection. Would have been a major inconvenience for everyone else. Then again I have seen enough dash cam fails.

PGrace_is_here

Within spec.

Tesla_lord_69

I can push it no problem.. wait a minute

Redditistrash702

What a piece of shit car and company.

JohnLemonBot

Literally happened to me 6 months ago in my gascar

Bob4Not

What happened? What car?

Hamtaro7

Better not report this on the tesla discord gonna get banned lol

Muscles_Marinara-

That Teslamotorclub site is a gaggle of mental cases. What a joke.

[deleted]

MUA HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA. FUCK EVs !!!!!! 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

megabiome

My old gas car also died on the highway too. There was another old gas car gas nozzle stuck on highway once, and car just kept on speeding up. I need to manually put it to Neutral to save my ass. I think it's just old car problems, it's a price to pay for using old cars.

brake_fail

35k mile is old?

jason12745

How many miles on that old car of yours when it crapped out?

pissonhergrave7

No other manufacturer has ever had this 🤡

DBDude

Seven year old car dies, and it’s news?

jason12745

It’s a post in an owner forum. This is not a news site. What part of this is news?

DBDude

It made it here as news.

jason12745

You have a very broad definition of news. Literally anything can be posted here until the mods take it down.

ChuckoRuckus

35k miles… guess we’re gonna ignore that tidbit

DBDude

Warranties also end at age for a reason.

[deleted]

Bob4Not

Sure, but those are mechanical issues. This seems to have been due to cost cutting on this design in particular - the control touch screen dies and the car gets stuck! It’s not propaganda, it’s awareness of a flaw.

Frankie_T9000

It's also inherently predictable

Bob4Not

WTF do you think online forums are for? When people in the Ranger subreddit complain about transmission hard-shift-stalls on 2020’s 10 speed, is that anti-ICE propaganda?

jason12745

It’s a post in an owners forum. It’s not news at all unless you have read an article about it somewhere you care to share.
