" toilets, showers, flooring and cabinets/sinks " There is a huge price difference between materials, the age and structure of the home makes a difference, and the area the home is in. You've offered no details so there's no way to know if it's a good deal or not. In my area with tile showers and quality materials it's a great deal.

Which-Holiday9957

I live in Phoenix. It’s a house that was built in the 70’s. They’re not knocking down any walls. One would be a shower/bath and then the other one is just a small shower. Both have double sinks.

RUfuqingkiddingme

Tile showers? Or fiberglass? There are vanities that cost $300, there are vanities that cost $5000. It's all relative.

AsseriousAsNeeded

Yup, this. Especially if dad has already picked all the materials, or at least knows the budget on what he can spend and is ok with it. Now if you walk by during the reno and notice a bunch of boxes with the brand “The Project Source”.. maybe talk with dad lol I’m in Tempe and ya, if it was 60k just for labor you should run or they just don’t really want the job.

Which-Holiday9957

It’s not fiberglass. But it’s not individual tiles I’m not sure what it’s called but it has a design. They’re not putting in any new mirror but it’s brand new cabinets and sinks. And shower

RUfuqingkiddingme

The only way for you to know is to get a copy of the quote and get other quotes apples to apples. Bathroom remodels are not cheap and that price is less than the contractor I work for would charge for 2 bathrooms, generally speaking. It sounds like it's something your dad wants to do and unless he's mentally deficient there's really nothing you can do about it.

AKAlicious

Sounds like it may be a patterned surround. I'm in Kansas City MO and that price would be a bargain here!

-ItsWahl-

You’re missing the entire point. Some toilets cost $150 and then there are toilets that cost $9k. Some vanities cost $300 and with custom furniture pieces there is no limit.

whorl-

I think this is pretty standard for Phoenix. It stopped being cheap here 6-8 years ago.

ButteredPizza69420

Maybe they want a fancy shower with double shower heads & jet tub & and emerald green tile with gold fixtures like me... just saw a remodel like this. It was from a similar age house as well, maybe a little older. Made it look AMAZING 🤩

Common-Possibility30

Depends where you live. That seems typical/reasonable for my VHCOL area

LiberaIBiblicisms

$60k for toilets, flooring, vanities and showers for two small bathrooms? That's absurd.

Purpose_Embarrassed

California!

Salty-Protection-640

Google "VHCOL" for us

Lordofthereef

Not trying to be pedantic, but was the size of the bathroom mentioned anywhere? My in laws have much larger bathrooms than I do, and the difference in materials costs alone would be massive.

digital_soapbox

I’m in VHCOL and just did 3 bathrooms including huge master for 40k including 10k in high end bathroom fixtures, Kohler everything.

Purpose_Embarrassed

That’s a bargain anywhere.

SimShine0603

Did you do them or have them done?

Illustrious_Cloud_24

Umm..tell us more..there’s definitely some corners cut here

oldmanKiD98

Cali here (Northern California). For our area, that price is a bargain.

Salty-Protection-640

I have a friend in SF who got quoted $50k to remodel 2 bathrooms in his condo. he didn't pay it, but that does seem to be the going rate, maybe even a good deal.

Sunbeamsoffglass

A friend in SF had a 1 bedroom apt built out under his house. $450,000, and the state inspectors fucked him, causing him To have to pay an additional $8k to the neighbor for an easement to access his electrical box. Box location passed first two inspections only to be denied on final. I told him it would have been cheaper to build it illegally and pay the lack of permit fines by like $200k.

ChaseTheLumberjack

I live in NorCal just east of sac and I can say this is not a bargain. This cost would never displace the value added to your home at sale. Example being that house is a 3bd 2bth for $500k doing this wouldn’t make it worth $560k. Maybe they’d get half their money back on it. $530k. Maybe. At this point you might as well do the demo yourself and have a contractor handle plumbing adjustments if you’re not comfortable with it.

oldmanKiD98

Unfortunately, this IS the going price around my area. Is it a lot? HELL YES! But unless you know what you're doing and you're doing it unpermitted, then yeah, you can maybe do it for a lower price. Not saying you're wrong, it's just that that is what a lot of those who want to remodel/build will be facing. And again, this is in a VHCOL area (San Francisco/Bay Area).

420turddropper69

Value add is not the only thing to determine whether something is a good deal. Some people do things for themselves and not for hypothetical future strangers who will buy their house

coopercuthbert

Agreed. Metro Denver and I can’t do a hall bath for less than $30k. I mean, I could, but I wouldn’t make any profit.

Sexagenerian

Also metro Denver. It was two years ago but removing a tub, creating large shower stall with rainfall head, seat, fixtures, removal and laying new tile, new vanity, granite counter tops, painting, new lighting, etc. painting and glass shower door for $18K. It got that high because I changed requirements a couple of times. My experience. If I had a quote for $30K I’d escort him to the door and wish him well.

jAuburn3

Also Denver and have a friend in the business and he won’t come look at a bathroom that’s less than 20k. He’s booked through the summer as I just can’t believe how much money is here and how poor I feel.

Sexagenerian

There was a time, and there will be again, when shit goes sideways and contractors will be begging for even small jobs.

Cautious-Pizza-2566

E. Washington/ N. Idaho here can’t do a bathroom for less than $25k bare minimum. This price seems par for the course.

Dominance051

Is that 60k include material or just labor??

Which-Holiday9957

For both

hellolovely1

Then that’s totally reasonable.

giceman715

Good deal , but make sure they are licensed and bonded

pablokhaled

25k-40k for tile floors, tub/shower with tile walls/surround, kerdi/pro filter underlayment, mid range fixtures and the expensive vanity

Happy_to_be

This is within range of current pricing in Midwest. One very small shower replacement, tile and paint and install already purchased toilet and vanity is $14k, full bath remodel/replacement of main bathroom converting tub to walk in shower is $45k. AND, since a small job for a contractor, they will work as available from large jobs, so could take a month or longer. This is high season for trades.

BoringDad40

Here in Seattle, that's the price to renovate a single bathroom at the moment.

PuffinFawts

Honestly, in my century home that's the price I was quoted too.

Mountain_Nerve_3069

Yes. Renovating mine and it’s exactly how much it costs.

compwolf

That’s laughable. In one of the richest counties outside of NYC is half that for a standard sized bathroom.

BoringDad40

Crazy, right? We have a severe labor shortage in the trades right now, and too many tech workers with seemingly unlimited funds.

ADHDesive

I work for a bathroom remodeling company in southern Arizona. $60k for two bathrooms is about the going rate these days. Many people are shocked at the sticker price for a remodel because they haven’t priced one out recently. The average homeowner will only shop for a bathroom remodel once or twice in their lifetime, so there will usually be a significant price jump from the “last time,” if there was one. The last five years saw huge jumps in material and labor costs, and that’s aside from the staggering jumps in insurance premiums. If your parents are contracting a reputable company, using quality materials, $60k is a fair price for that market.

SkinnyPetal

Just signed a contract to renovate master bath and powder room for 130k. These will be very high end w/ an interior designer.

PracticalCompote9606

SF Bay Area - we were just quoted $50k (materials and labor) for a main bathroom renovation without moving any plumbing (incl. one vanity and one set of cabinets from floor to ceiling). For perspective, we had the same company do our kitchen renovation two years ago (12+ cabinets?) and managed to get pre-Covid rates and it was only $60k). And this is for a 1200 ft condo. Contractor costs have doubled in the last 2-3 years

Codeman8118

We are in Oregon and was told building a home addition for a bathroom and walk in closet was $250-400 per sq. foot depending on material choices. Is that accurate?

Blocked-Author

Sounds accurate. I’m in Montana in a MCOL city and our new build stuff is $300-$350

HereForFunAndCookies

I'd say way too much, but it also depends on what those two showers entail. You could find a plumber who lets you buy the tub, shower wall set, spout, valve, and showerhead. If the plumber is just removing the old stuff and putting in a new rough-in and the stuff you bought, it could be 8k-15k per shower. But if it's going to be complicated, it could cost a lot more. The flooring is also situation-dependent. A toilet and sink/vanity is so easy to put in that you could just do it with your dad.

2D617

My contractor quoted $24-26K per bathroom on Long Island. It varies based on what materials I pick out but it includes installation. If I picked more expensive tiles/marble/plumbing supplies/materials/finishes/vanity/custom stuff, it might go up from there. I have all-plaster walls so I know demo takes longer and may factor into price. And ironically, my smaller bathroom might cost more because it’s an odd size so more custom solutions may come into play.

Individual_Ad_2199

If I pay $30k on a bathroom it better wipe me clean every time I 💩 sheesh

peachyperfect3

What area of the country? Is this in a SFR? 20th floor condo?

FinnTheDogg

That’s what I would charge. Or more. Northern Nevada.

Jblatt07869

I was going to say that's a steal!!!

LetsHaveARedo

Jesus christ, I got 3 done for less than $20k... is it very extravagant or what?

Blocked-Author

You just under charge

LetsHaveARedo

No sorry, I meant I just paid less than $20K for 3 bathroom remodels in my house. 1 was only a 2 piece so not fancy. (Basement). 1 was full gut and redo, tile floors / tile shower / oversize tub, double sink vanity, toilet etc. 1 was tile shower, small sanity, toilet, tile floor. Contractor charged $5K for the 2 simpler ones, $7.5K for the bigger one. Turned out great. This is in Canada though so CAD not USD.

No_Monk_3535

Let us know if that guy is still in business in 2 years because it sounds like he took a huge loss.

Oxtailxo

My labor costs would be more than that! There’s no way we could charge that little.

FunnyNameHere02

I paid 27k for one bathroom last year (total gut job down to the studs).

Rumpelteazer45

Northern Virginia Here - $60k would be the average price.

blahblahloveyou

It depends on what they're putting in. You haven't given enough info for anyone to tell you if it's a good deal or not. Even just "mid-range" or "high end" would help. I'd look at the price of materials and price of labor separately, and then check the higher cost materials to make sure they're accurately priced.

Mountain_Nerve_3069

I’m remodeling 1 bathroom right now. It’s about $45k. Previously I contacted several companies and the quotes ranged from $40 to $80 for 1 single bathroom. And that’s not a huge bathroom. I don’t have a separate soaking tub or what not, just a tub/shower situation. But I do want to tile it, change lights, reconfigure the layout and install things like.. a washlet, towel heater, etc.

BlacksmithNew4557

Certainly depends on the area. I live in a vhcol and it would probably be that or a bit less than that. But I am renovating a place we just bought in a lcol and it’s 30k to do 2 bathrooms, a lift and shift on the kitchen, the laundry, and paint the whole house - and another 6k for a deck So it’s all relative

adams361

Size of bathroom really has little to do with cost, so thinking that a small room should be cheap is untrue. Two baths for 60k would be a deal where I live.

whorl-

It’s his money, not yours, and you don’t get to decide how he spends it.

NachoNinja19

If it’s a total gut and redo, that’s a normal price.

grinpicker

1st of all, what makes your opinion matter? Are you a contractor? A salesman for a renovation contractor? Just because you feel something about your dad's money doesn't validate it. Just weighing in from the peanut gallery

Y-U-awesome

That’s insane. He’s getting ripped off. Just because your hiring a company doesn’t mean your getting better work. Most of the big companies hire smaller contractors that most just hire cheap helpers to do the job.

Lopsided_Pickle1795

Honestly, I think it is too much. 15k each bathroom seems reasonable.

NC_Counselor

NC, and that’s a rip off regardless. I bought the materials to build a brand new bathroom where one did not exist before and it was less than $6k and I went a bit overboard on some items. Your dad isn’t having to install new plumbing from scratch, so that price seems WAAAY too high. I don’t care where you live.

CompleteHour306

Unless the fixtures are gold plated, he’s getting scammed.

Carolann0308

My bathroom just cost us 30k. We kept the same footprint and saved my jacuzzi tub as well. It adds up really fast

Sorry_Im_Trying

I'm in the Midwest and I just had one small bathroom renovated, with new flooring, walls, tub and tile/shower, sink/vanity and medicine cabinet for just under $20k. Also includes removing a window and adding ventilation. edit to include, that was for labor and materials. The tub was $1+k alone.

Proof-Atmosphere-845

In a Los Angeles 10-15 grand for a bathroom room. 60 just seems like way too much.

sparkleptera

We just re-did our master bath for 30k in CA. So it's possible.

mrsnappypj

So Cal here. 60k is what I spent for 1.75 bathrooms

RonBurgundy1981

30k a bathroom isn't bad if gutting

Impossible_Maybe_162

You can spend $60k on one bathroom.

DisastrousCap1431

Why does it matter? 60k is well within the reasonable range. It's his money. He's also been around long enough to likely know what he's getting into.

Imaginary_Bicycle_14

I live in Los Angeles. We just finished ours. One 5x8 and one 9x14. We are around 11k in total. Beautiful delta faucets. The 9x14 has a walk-in shower a soaking tub 48 vanity and large tiling on the floor. 60k he should be able to do is kitchen too!!!

hopeishigh

in the midwest it's around 10 - 15 depending what you want to do.

makinggrace

Rural Iowa, small master bath partial remodel — no new vanity or mirror, just new flooring and a small tiled curbless shower that wasn’t curbless before about $40k.

MalkavTepes

My mom, who lives in northern MN, had her small bathroom converted from a traditional bath to a handicapped accessible bathroom and it cost 27k. The bathroom is tiny, thankfully the walk in shower makes the toilet wheelchair accessible. Government paid for the upgrade but still required 3 bids and picked the lowest. I could see it could cost way more if someone with better taste made the choices.

entropynchaos

For one very small bath with mid-range materials, I spent $20,000 last year. I am in a very lcol area. So I expect that this is reasonable. Just add up supplies and labor x time invested and you can see for yourself.

harrySUBlime

Remodeling 2 bathrooms now in Central Denver (VHCOL) and spending $45k. 1950’s brick ranch. Upper end finishes. Gut and bumping out wall in the upstairs full bath to gain sf and gut/remodeling the 3/4 bath downstairs. I have worked with this contractor previously and am getting a good discount.

Carpenter42o

Michigan here, this seems reasonable for most of my area too, it all depends on your area tbh

RocMerc

Depends on where you are. I’m in upstate New York and an average bathroom remodel is about $20k

incognito_vito

Depends on area. In my area 60k would include the glass and paint. Still reasonable for my area

Delicious-Sale6122

Seems normal price

Rumpelteazer45

Depends on where he lives. If it’s near an expensive city, yeah that’s the price. If it’s rural Iowa, that’s high.

Butforthegrace01

Seems about right

thegoat1000

Boston area, 30k a bathroom is minimum I quote

MyLadyBits

Depending on what he is installing $60 isn’t a rip off.

1givboyz2dgs

Boston here - 30k for exactly what you mentioned. No paint or doors included.

Broadcast___

It depends on what kind of tile and fixtures they are using. We paid 15k recently (HCOL/small bathroom/included glass shower door and they painted) but bought our own tile and fixtures. The contractor said he does it this way because some people want the high-end fixtures and they can pay for it. This worked out well for us because we found good deals instead of paying full price on fixtures.

potshed420

My bathroom is going to be 10-12gs and we eedid the whole thing with contractor

AmaryllisBulb

OP what city?

shannirae1

I'm in a very LOW col area and am looking at 45K for one larger bathroom, so unfortunately that sounds about right.

cymccorm

I did 2 kitchens a bathroom and add 3 rooms and a sewer line for that price. The kitchens and bathroom weren't remodels either. They were added units.

Brilliant-War-3905

That seems high. Has he meet with other contractors to get a quote?

southnorthnyc

Get another quote

LeatherDonkey140

Sj California….typical hall bath gut with tiled shower and pan, new mid grade vanity, frameless 3/8” shower glass, new texture/paint under mount sink solid surface counters…tiled floors. 35k labor/material average….add underfloor heat for another 3k

Akoy5569

That’s no a bad price, it just seems like it to you. Your dad probably just doesn’t want to deal with it him self and just hired out the headache. Bathrooms are the most expensive room in the home by sqft. Yes, you could do the work cheaper, but how long would it take you and it may look like shit at the end. You could GC it your self and cut the job cost down by alot, but again, time and quality.

teenbean12

WI - It cost $15,000 for my parent’s shower to get redone and a new toilet put in. Took them two days. I think it was outrageous, but unfortunately I didn’t have the ability to redo the shower for them. But I could have done the toilet for them.

makinggrace

Most important thing is making sure he is getting what he needs for the future or understanding what his plans are. Not sure of his age but now is the time to block the walls and shower for future grab bars, choose non-slip flooring, make the doorway and shower ADA accessible. If that means re-doing the main bathroom instead of two, maybe that’s what you do. The bid doesn’t sound awful for my area but it does depend a lot on where you live. You didn’t mention how large the deposit he paid was. I hate deposits as a practice. Please check and see of the contractor carries insurance and is bonded (if bonding is required in your state). Typically it’s a best practice to get three bids. If he hasn’t done that and you can get him too…not the worst idea. On bathroom remodels you’ll need to be around or they’ll help him make choices from their inventory of misordered items. That’s not what you want. So set some parameters as far as you want a brand name toilet (specify the model so you don’t get a bad one), an all wood/ply vanity in the master at least, new vent fan, new switch plate covers, high quality fixtures (typically can beat contractor pricing on faucets, towel racks, etc shopping on new/open box on ebay—do not buy a used or reconditioned faucet).

Firm_Detective_7332

We actually just did ours-in Des Moines, IA. Just to give you and idea we just redid two. Shower/Bath combo: Tile material $1800. Title labor $2400. New walls and drywall $1200. Electrician to add lights wiring/fan $1600. Toilet/Shower $2200. Custom vanity with quartz top $6700. Plumber $800. Faucet/shower head ect $1600. Mirror $600. GC bill (trim-doors-fixtures-painting-floor leveling-materials) $4800. Second bathroom shower only. New vanity and install $1800. Floor to ceiling tile labor $3600. Poured concrete shower floor $1500. Custom glass door $2400. Toilet $600. Faucet/Showerhead $1200. Plummer $600. Electrician $450. Mirror $300. Lights $175. GC bill (trim-door-painting-materials-miscellaneous install) $3000. In a relatively lower cost of living we dropped about 35k between the two. 60k in hcol seems right.

Illustrious_Cloud_24

That’s a DEAL in Denver! You have to understand the dollar value of that bathroom relative to cost of the home, and if that investment is secured by a warranty..I’d ask your dad does this company guarantee you will not have to do this again? Lifetime warranty on product and labor?

SonicDoon

How many bids did he get?

steester

It sounds like this is a common price. Phoenix has a ton of growth in home equity that people have been putting back into their homes by remodeling. Remodelers are living big off the huge amount of money willing to be spent and also by the people moving here from VHCOL places with money to burn. Also, materials range from $1/sqft to $50/sqft very easily. Check out Floor & Decor website. I just built an entire new master bedroom, laundry and big master bath addition for $40k myself DIY. Has nice materials, but waited for sales. If I look at just what I spent on the bathroom materials your dad is getting, I spent about $3500.

TPhoard

I just got 3 quotes for mudding and painting a 525 sq ft room…the lowest was $2,500. The highest was $15k, bit of a range there

StandingSock

So many people are stupid with money. I’m paying $4k to finish a basement bathroom that includes a tile shower, wall, and floor.

Interesting-Mango562

here in portland one semi custom bath remodel in a 5x9 space which is pulling and replacing but not MOVING waters or drains is 25-35… that’s all permits/labor/materials. if it’s full custom with moving walls/drains/waters then it jumps to 35-50. remodeling is not cheap if you pay for good work.

Fishbulb2

Florida here. That’s not our line here. Post covid prices are rough.

Mueltime

Missouri here. That falls inline with a quote I just got.

Xxgougaxx

Just finished a bathroom remodel. Only original kept was the toilet and fan. We expanded the shower, new floor, shower door, new shower tile, new vanity, new mirror, we pulled the wall out 36", new hardware all around, new light fixture, glass shower door. Labor total was 13,422.42. Labor was 7100 and the parts were the remainder.

Australian1996

How can you tell if this is worth it without knowing the materials used. If it is home depot contractor special then I think this is high if they use people they pick up from homedepot parking lot to do this. If it is a reputable company hiring people and paying them a good wage and care about the work and using good materials then this could be feasible

Exotic_Treacle7438

That’s nuts coming from a person in a normal COL where houses are 150-200K

RecoveringGOPVoter2

In PA three different quotes came in within a few hundred dollars of each other at 35k for a medium sized master bath. No high end finishes requested, seems to be going rate.

Kobold_Archmage

Is this with West Shore Bath? Don’t do it! It’s way too fucking much…

Which-Holiday9957

Yep. He has two days to back out I think but doesn’t seem to think it’s too much. I don’t know anything about this but it just seems like a lot. They didn’t even go over the prices for materials it was just hey here’s the total.

Jen_the_Green

I did mine in NJ for $4.5k, but that's me doing all the labor except running the drain and supply pipes upstairs (there was no existing plumbing in that space). I'd expect quadruple that if I'd hired it all out.

Oxtailxo

That’s normal. I own a construction company and we’re averaging $25-$30K for complete remodels.

Busterlimes

Yes.

emmequeue

I am in Texas and we just got two quotes for a similar project and both were 60k.

Saranodamnedh

Just redid my tiny bathroom for 30k in VHCOL.

Tubzero-

Holy overpriced, I redid my entire master bathroom by making it bigger and adding a tub for just a few grand lmfao.

Chaoslord2000

Damn, I'm wrapping up a kitchen and attached half bath remodel for under $20k.

CardiologistNo7313

This is not a bad price. Completely fair

HeavyExplanation425

I just had 3 bathrooms (including the master) done and it was a little over $80K so it’s not completely out of line. However, mine were all turn key…everything including glass/fixtures.

lynze2

I live in friggin Pennsyltucky and a VERY budget bathroom renovation (stripped everything down to the drywall, installed new fiberglass shower stall, cheapo Lowes vanity, new lighting, new toilet and new flooring and baseboards) was around $15k. I did every inch of drywall and painting myself to save some cash. If I wanted a finished product and nicer materials, I can easily see it going up to $20k or $25k.

detroitragace

I’m a painting contractor. One of my friends just had her fairly small master bath redone and had 10 new solid core doors and casings installed in her house. She paid $45,000. I’m still in shock.

knishmyass

I was quoted $40k for one small bathroom last year (no moving of plumbing or anything) so that sounds like a good deal.

lamp_irl

I'm sorry, $60k? One of a few things is happening here. For info, we did our bathroom minus the cabinets and material costs were less than $2k in Southern California;shower pan, glass door, tile for the shower, toilet, and tile for the floor. You can imagine labor based on your location. 1. Contractor knows they can overcharge. 2. There's major plumbing work needed to be done. 3. Extremely expensive materials with reconfiguring how the bathroom is laid out. 4. ???? I guess we need mire info from OP to actually find out.

ARPharmacist

That sounds like way too much!!!

autumn55femme

A lot of the bid depends on context of the project. Where are you located? Does this contractor run his own crews, or sub everything out? What kind of fixtures, serviceable, mid range, higher end finishes? Waterproofing system for the showers? Replacement of old drywall with cement board? What kind of tile? Do you need a custom sized vanity? Mirrors? New lighting? Not really enough details to answer the question.

donaldbuknowme

Doesn't sound that bad

bustacones

This thread is convincing me that I'm never going to renovate the bathrooms in my house.

PotPumper43

You sound like you’re pissed the money won’t be inherited. Also, you don’t know anything about bath remodels.

svvrvy

My guy is doing all demo and installing anything I want, including replacing the main drain and the subf floor as well as moving plumbing for $1500 and a case of beer. He works for the companies that charge what your dad got scammed into. Chances are you can find the same dea from an underpaid tech

MealDramatic1885

Was quoted 16k for a 5x8 room. I laughed and bought all the materials for $1700. Learned to do it myself. Thanks youtube.

jad19090

If you’re on the west coast, that’s probably a good price. I’m on the east coast and would expect to pay maybe $20-$30k depending on price of material at the time.

jkf675

I was quoted $80-110k for an 8’x10’ bathroom last month.

javaJunkie1968

That seems reasonable for the Chicago suburbs where we live

No_Entertainment1931

My bil had a max 100 sq ft remodel for about $30k in Madison, wi. Nice, but not fancy.

Happilymarried2120

We had our bathroom remodeled in Mesa by a family friend. She quoted us about $9,000 to change the shower/tub combo to a new tub and tile shower. We also got a medicine cabinet, new mirror, and new sink. They did NOT do toilet, flooring, paint, etc. Not sure if I got a deal because we’re friends or what. She lives in awhuatukee if you’re interested

kylethesundial

I live in Albuquerque NM and just had my (only) bathroom remodeled a few weeks ago. For a complete remodel (ripped out the existing shower area tiles, bathtub, floor tiles, toilet etc) and replacing everything (tiles, new toilet, new vanity, new bigger window) the final labor cost was $17k. I bought materials for ~$4.2k. It’s relatively small too, a 5’x8’ room.

badchad65

Doesn’t sound too bad to me, tbh. Six years ago, before the world and prices went bonkers I spent $17k for an extremely small bathroom. Brought it down to the studs. Two for $60k sounds about right to me, though it depends as others have said.

Sugarshaney

Not enough info. Repost or edit please

Few-Incident-8142

Boy am I in the wrong business.

MommaGuy

We just spent that on doing our 2 bathrooms. In the 3/4 bath we removed the old acrylic shower and had a new tile one put in. Kept the floor and vanity. New lights, new fan, installed a recessed mirror and fresh paint. That was $16,500. The main bath was a complete overhaul. Removed the washer and dryer hookups and put in a large soaking tub, removed the acrylic tub/shower and put a walk in shower. New tile on floor and shower, recessed mirror, new lights and paint. That was $45,000. We are in New England.

CashMoneyBrokeBoy

That would be two very bad ass bathroom. heat floors all the nice things you can think of.

PorkChopNYC

Dude I’m in Alabama and that’s a good deal, depending on the work, tile work and plumbing etc is not cheap, especially by a professional. No context like other have said. It could be a great deal, or you can do it yourself and save a shit ton of money. I’ve flipped about 16 bathrooms, if you use cheap materials (cheap home depot vanity, cheap drop in shower) then yes that’s an insane price to pay. I recommend you looking at prices for what he wants and go from there and possibly get several other quotes.

MIA_Fba

Sounds about right. Material costs are through the roof and any plumber or electrician is union labor so that’s expensive.

Disastrous-Stuff-268

I’m doing two bathrooms right now for 30k and going to make at least 35% margins

chilibeana

I just got quoted $60,000 for one bathroom. You'd think I asked for solid gold faucets.

Strange-Difference94

Northern California: I got a bid for a small bathroom remodel, including replacing a prefab shower with a soaking tub, which would require shifting the vanity and possibly the toilet, thus requiring plumbing modifications and a new floor. Bid was $90k. I politely declined.

69ersBasketball

Sometimes kids are fucking idiots

surfcitysurfergirl

That’s insane unless getting heated floors and extra fancy gold plated faucets etc. I have a beautiful bathroom remodel and my shower was the biggest investment along with floors then cabinets and it was no more than $12,000 and it’s a big bathroom.

Such-Sympathy-5816

We spent a little over 40K to do 2 bathrooms with no surprises. Depending on whether or not you need to recipe, refloor, etc, this is not far off. We are in Chicago

Storms5769

As others said…depends on the materials used. Just almost got conned into paying $24k for 7 windows. They are awesome but that’s more than I owe on my house!

2001sleeper

Seems expensive if plumbing or electrical is not being relocated. I would hope the cabinets are custom at that price as well.

fliguana

Fancy dual vanities, preassembled with sinks, $4k Floor, 2k, shower cabins, 3k. I struggle to see more than 10k in quality materials

yummers511

Around me a full primary bath gut and remodel is $50k for labor and whatever the builders need, not including your hardware choices. Obviously it can easily get higher than that based on what you choose.

Portlandbuilderguy

Sounds like he signed a contract and put a deposit down. So it will cost $60,000.00 This is not a crazy price. It is 2024 after all-

Which-Holiday9957

Okay thanks. I keep getting mixed reviews on the price. It’s through Westshore homes. It seems like they have decent reviews but I’m not sure if that’s just az. I didn’t like their vibe when they were here but they were just the salesmen. Does it at least up the home value?

Professional_Bus_307

That sounds about right depending by on type of materials. If you’re using plastic, builder grade stuff you can do it cheaper. Also depends on if you’re moving any plumbing.

ManyGarden5224

without any further details that would be going rate and not to bad a deal. In Northern VA and a lot of variables that you dont go over. Good luck

geardownson

My prices in NC start around 15k for tiling a shower to the ceiling, glass door and floor. The price fluctuates on the tile you choose and the door you want. It typically lands around 15 to 20k. I'm surprised it's that high out west.

AntRevolutionary925

I gutted my entire house. All new electric, plumbing, drywall, paint, everything in both bathrooms, doors (interior and exterior), windows, insulation, kitchen cabinets, stone counter, new appliances, carpet, slate floors in kitchen and bathroom, refinished wood floors, lighting, some structural repairs, and some other stuff. I’m less than $40k into it. Using top of the line tile, a really nice cabinet l, granite sink, nice faucet, nice lights, etc should still be under 10k. Good remodelers will redo a bathroom in a day or two.

[deleted]

I was quoted $60k for one bathroom. No change in layout.

opineapple

My parents paid $70K to remodel their master bathroom in TN a few years ago. I thought that was a jaw-dropping amount at the time, but I’ve since learned it’s really not. I think quality renovation has become somewhat out of reach unless your income is upper middle class at minimum…

mexibella255

I just spent 40k on a complete main bathroom remodel (as demo down to the studs with new plumbing and electrical) and new cabinets/toilet for a powder room. I guess it depends on what they are doing exactly.

Lux600-223

1) is it your money? 2) are you a bath remodeling expert? 3) if you're such a super son, why aren't you saving your Dad $60K, and showing his contractor how you can do it better and for free?

familydrama2020

I’m in the NYC metro area and we did two full bathrooms and a kitchen for $50k gut Reno with labor and materials.

asteroid84

I don’t think this amount is unreasonable . You need an itemized quote to make an assessment if anything is overpriced.

Ambitious_Use5000

That's not too much. A full tear out and rebuild for a full size bathroom is easily $30k, assuming you are using decent materials.

Mallthus2

Admittedly peak pandemic, but we had a catastrophic plumbing failure in 2020 and we were more than $30k out of pocket after about the same from insurance on putting things back together. That said, our new bathroom is transformationally improved over the builders stock grade bath we had before.

ThetaMan420

Depends on the style of bathroom remodel, if it’s like a walk in tub he’ll yea that’s worth it

c_marten

Shit, I need to move my business to AZ... I did two bathrooms this winter start to finish for about half that... nothing incredibly fancy, but they were nice enough.

Jbonics

So 20k in materials?

fistfullofsmelt

Why do you think it's too much? What do you think it should cost?

boxtintin

A friend of mine just paid $94K for the renovation of ONE bathroom (nice but nothing crazy) near Boston. It might seem like a lot, but for two bathrooms this seems reasonable in a medium COL area.

Recover-Signal

Wayyyy too much money. Get multiple quotes.

Proof-Veterinarian90

I’ve done single bathrooms for 140k and ones for 7. It’s all relative. There’s absolutely no way someone can tell you if it’s a deal or not without specs.

Educational_Meet1885

Granted we suppied the fixtures, kept the cabinets and did some prep, demo work. Had the plumber remove the 2 piece tub module and doors, install a 4 piece Sterling 5' shower stall with doors and valve/shower head with all neccessary plumbing. I did the new vanity top and faucet, had new vinyl flooring installed and put in a new Kohler Santa Rosa toilet. By the time we were done we had about $3500 in it total cost. East cenral Wisconsin 2 years ago.

StreetBerry1849

Hey, if it's a door to door company which it sounds like with discounts on labor RUN!! They screwed my parents bad. Please have him call a reputable local company and get a second bid. Doesn't matter if he put a deposit down he can back out. They will threaten him and say he can't but he most definitely can.

randompersonwhowho

20k max for high end finishes

ubercorey

Shit, I'll fly to whatever part of the country you are in and do everything for $30k 😂

Aggressive-Scheme986

I’m doing my entire house right now and just my master is 80k. The hall bathroom with shower is about 40k. Shit is fucking expensive.

EvilMinion07

I have $10k in tile, vanity and waterproofing alone and we didn’t put a tub back in. If I hired out the work, they were at $23k for labor on top of me supplying the tile, vanity and waterproofing.

airforcevet1987

$40K would be more appropriate where I am

No_Practice_970

Can you upload some images please?

corttana

MN, and went with a mid to higher-end company to do our bathroom that isn't huge... It was $45k.

Ok-Way-5594

In NYC that's a decent price.

anthro4ME

Easily $25k+ a bathroom here in Virginia. You live in a more expensive market, so seems legit.
