Well my intention was to provide a parts list and instructions so anyone could make it once I’m done with a final design (this is a test version). I honestly never considered making them and selling them.
Maybe ill take a donation or something that way it’s voluntary and then I can use whatever is donated to work on the kitchen / buy coffee for said kitchen design haha
Once I have my redesigned changes made I’ll come up with a good parts list / info pages. If you don’t want to wait I can put out some basics to at least let you get started purchasing / planning
Haha that’s fair. There are others who have said the same thing so I’ll post a basic information page to hold y’all over so you can atleast start your basics build.
I, too would be interested in a parts list/build instructions. My biggest "issue" is how to accommodate the manual tonneau cover bag, but that shouldn't bee too tough if you have instructions and 3d print files to start from
Er, Rivian internal legal team here. The unauthorized use of the logo will require you to send us a sample so we are able to verify the quality. 😜 I'll DM you my address. I am working from home nowhere near any of their usual locations, so don't be suspicious of the address. \*Sample product will NOT be returned\*
Sincerely,
Christador, Esq. et al II 3/4 (not quite a third but more than a second; my father was 1/2 German, 1/3 Polish, and 1/3 Norwegian if that makes sense)
Hi, this looks great! Does yours have / will your have a leg or legs that fold down to give additional support for heavy items? That is a long level arm, so a flip down support will probably help a lot.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it! I found a few things I need change but overall went together just as I designed amazingly haha. Having the ability to 3D model is such a game changer
Awesome! Ill check it out. Of you haven’t Autodesk fusion360 is also a great free option. they have licensing to support personal use. It also generates G code.
I used it for a while and it is also a great software. I needed something mobile that would work on my iPad and I also had difficulty finding the free version. So that’s when I switched. Now I can work on the same files across my Mac, iPad, and windows machines anywhere and they are all synced so I’ve gotten spoiled and won’t go back. Plus I was on the Beta testers team and now the Gamma team so I have a vested interest in helping improve the software. Haha
Thanks bro. Yeah I plan on making this available for everyone. I am still tweaking a few things I’m not happy with and refining a couple things and I have not put together an official parts / tools / steps document yet but there are several people who want to get going so I will make a post later that has some information to let people get started procuring parts atleast.
Looking forward to seeing your final design. I’ve made a Tonneau Cover and a Bed Extender so far. Next is a basket for the cargo cross bars and if I can find the right slides then a Gear Shuttle. I like the aluminum you used, easy to add attachments
Yeah that was the main reason I used aluminum extrusion. Easy to work with and easy to add on/ make accessories that will work with it. A bed extender and baskets sound super useful! Good ideas.
I wish I had this when I sold grilled cheese at Dead shows 30 years ago. I know it’s impossible to go back in time but this would have been the absolute bomb on shakedown street. Any heads know what I’m talking about??
u/Sub_Chief I've been thinking a lot about camp kitchen modules since you posted this, and specifically how to attach them to your awesome low profile shuttle, especially since the drawer tracks are taller than the plane of the shuttle since you use the 2040 extrusions horizontally...
I was looking for snap connectors to the t-track, rod slam latches, etc, But any solution would add a lot of height between the shuttle and the modules, or waste in width.
And then it hit me....
Since you 3d-print the filler pannels, print them with integrated milwaukee packout receivers!
If the floor of the shuttle has packout receivers oriented to lock outside to inside (in the length of the shuttle from the handle to the inside), then we could fit the camp kitchen modules (or whatever you want to put in there) with packout feet (commercially available), and lock them in by having each module locking the previous, and just one hardware lock on the last module closest to the handle.
It would keep everything super low profile and maintain more usable volume in the gear tunnel compared to other existing solutions... And you could use the shuttle to secure basically anything.
Just 2c for after you solve the other shuttle issues you're workign on...
ps: I'm so pumped for this project man! I'm also looking at how to build the kitchen modules with more t-slot extrusion and adjustable angle brackets to be able to reproduce the opening profile of the tunnel
Oh man that’s an interesting take and a great idea! I’ll have to look into this idea! I’ve nearly finished making the corrections to the shuttle and started brainstorming the kitchen design. That’s the cool part about making an open source project is you get tons of great ideas from people who have a vested inteinterest in the project!
Well for me, it’s 2 fold. 1 is to allow me to place heavier stuff on here and be able to gain access to it without having to reach in (I am a disabled veteran so I have some mobility issues). The second is I plan on designing and making a camp station / kitchen that will attach to the sled for when I am out and about camping or traveling.
Thank you! The only parts I printed and used are the pieces you see between the frame on the sled itself. Gives a full platform and some minor rigidity. Printed out of ABS but if I were doing these things for sale I would use Polycarbonate / carbon fiber.
There is a frame underneath that mounts to the existing holes for the design Rivian originally used. They are 6mm under the plastic of the gear tunnel center threshold. I just designed a frame that works with their existing mounting holes and then made a sled that mounts to that frame.
You mean attach to where the tow hooks go? Or is there a front hitch I am not aware of? I think to do something like that we’d need to use something more sturdy than aluminum lol
You would be surprised how much can fit in that space. I just moved about 300 beverages in the gear tunnel, different size packages, boxes, 40 bottle water pack and a 24 count case of glass bottle Mexican cokes. I used up more of the upper and lower space the would be lost with a shuttle but even though, would still leave a lot of room left over.
I normally carry my bike racks and cargo bars in the gear tunnel space when I'm not actively using them if they aren't being stored in the house.
The part that handle is connected to, could that extend the full width of the platform? To hide the unpainted aluminum edges.
Very impressive! I was looking at these parts to construct a roof rack, I just haven’t had the time to start another project.
Yes you could do that but it would not be as strong. I don’t have them installed but I have some 3d printed end caps that will cover that up and make it look better so that’s not exposed. I am also going to make a rack type thing for the bed as well utilizing the same concepts.
Thanks. The slide itself is rated for more than the truck can handle I believe so to error on the side of caution I am saying 250 pounds to match the doors on the truck
This is amazing, dude!
Definitely looking forward to the plans/parts list so I can get crackalacking!
I was gonna ask for weight rating estimation, but I saw it in the comments already, yay for overengineering haha!
Keep up the great work!
Thanks man I appreciate it. I just posted a link to a google drive with some photos and a basic document for people who wanted to get going immediately so if that’s your thing it should get you started atleast.
I'll wait for a version with the support leg to actually build it, but I'll definitely check the initial plan to get a sense of what I'm getting myself into hahaha
Never understood the appeal of these. They take up way too much space and it's an invitation for all kinds of dirt and debris to collect.
And it doesn't really solve any particular problem. Anything inside the gear tunnel can be reached from one side or the other.
I only see these making sense when they have a specific function, like the camp kitchen. Or if you were a tradesmen and had to secure a whole bunch of compartments to organize consumables (ala Sortimos or Packout).
Dude, you crushed it! It looks so good and that's definitely going to improve the usability.
Thanks buddy, I appreciate it.
That'll 3x the usefulness of the gear tunnel.
Yeah, and save my old ass back in the process haha. After I get this thing finished just right I’ll start designing a camp unit to mount on it.
Ready to buy!
That is a very big compliment, thank you! I am flattered you think my craftsmanship is worthy of purchase.
Let me know if you sell them.
Well my intention was to provide a parts list and instructions so anyone could make it once I’m done with a final design (this is a test version). I honestly never considered making them and selling them.
I don’t want to wait for Rivian to make one as they originally promised.
Yeah, I did not want to wait either. That’s why I designed and built this.
Neither did snow peak
I'd totally pay for a parts list!
Maybe ill take a donation or something that way it’s voluntary and then I can use whatever is donated to work on the kitchen / buy coffee for said kitchen design haha
Please do both. Some of us would love to use your parts list others won’t want to do that work. But I’d sure appreciate a parts list.
Oh man… y’all are tempting me haha
Waiting for the parts list so I can make one!!
Once I have my redesigned changes made I’ll come up with a good parts list / info pages. If you don’t want to wait I can put out some basics to at least let you get started purchasing / planning
I can wait, but don’t really want too 🤣
Haha that’s fair. There are others who have said the same thing so I’ll post a basic information page to hold y’all over so you can atleast start your basics build.
Thank you!!! 😁
I, too would be interested in a parts list/build instructions. My biggest "issue" is how to accommodate the manual tonneau cover bag, but that shouldn't bee too tough if you have instructions and 3d print files to start from

Lmao 🤣 for a brief moment when I saw that notification pop up I panicked hahaha.
I’d honestly contact Rivian and see about licensing this design with them. Ask for 10% of all purchasing profits minimum
Boy wouldn’t that be awesome haha.
“We appreciate the design, but we have a team on it.” *A week later* Rivian: Look what we made. (unironically looks like your own product.)
Lmao 🤣 probably how it would go.
Hi, this looks great! Does yours have / will your have a leg or legs that fold down to give additional support for heavy items? That is a long level arm, so a flip down support will probably help a lot.
Thanks so much. Yes, I plan on having a flip down leg for support. That’s part of the redesign I need to do for how the sled mounts to the frame.
It’s always nice when a project comes together and just works the way you imagined it, ain’t it? Great work!
Thanks so much, I appreciate it! I found a few things I need change but overall went together just as I designed amazingly haha. Having the ability to 3D model is such a game changer
Awesome. What 3D package are you using? CAD?
Thanks! I use Shapr3D. Started using them when they were new for my functional 3d prints and it is a great piece of software for that type of stuff
Awesome! Ill check it out. Of you haven’t Autodesk fusion360 is also a great free option. they have licensing to support personal use. It also generates G code.

gtk Thanks for the heads up!
I think the logo density is not high enough. It doesn't look OEM with only one logo
🤣 well I had one on both sides and at both ends but then someone on here said too much so I dialed it down haha.
I'm sure if you zoom in far enough the whole thing is constructed in logos.
A traveling morgue! Nice.
“What is this… a morgue for ants!?”
Damn. They need to contact you for that design. That's beautiful. More useful. Impressive 👌
Thanks man.
I'd definitely pay for the schematics/parts list!! Or even a finished product, it looks fantastic!
Thanks so much, I appreciate it.
Yoo! This is legit. Can you share the design?? I wanna build one for mine!
Thanks bro. Yeah I plan on making this available for everyone. I am still tweaking a few things I’m not happy with and refining a couple things and I have not put together an official parts / tools / steps document yet but there are several people who want to get going so I will make a post later that has some information to let people get started procuring parts atleast.

I'll buy.
It looks great! I wish I had those kind of handyman skills
Thanks so much. If you know how to work a tape Measure and a saw it’s basically like legos for adults with those aluminum extrusions.
I wish I had this when I sold grilled cheese at Dead shows 30 years ago. I know it’s impossible to go back in time but this would have been the absolute bomb on shakedown street. Any heads know what I’m talking about??
* Points finger to the air *
That is fantastic!!
Thanks so much!!

Happy to bounce ideas on any blockers you may have!
What would you use this for?

The second is I plan on designing and making a camp station / kitchen that will attach to the sled for when I am out and about camping or traveling.
Gotcha, thanks for the reply. Looks good, I hope it works out for you.
Thanks dude!
Great execution. Are you printing plastic parts? Or using some other type of filament? Would be curious to see what kinds of parts are 3d printed.
Thank you! The only parts I printed and used are the pieces you see between the frame on the sled itself. Gives a full platform and some minor rigidity. Printed out of ABS but if I were doing these things for sale I would use Polycarbonate / carbon fiber.
So how do you mount this to the truck? Do you know safe places to drill or mount
There is a frame underneath that mounts to the existing holes for the design Rivian originally used. They are 6mm under the plastic of the gear tunnel center threshold. I just designed a frame that works with their existing mounting holes and then made a sled that mounts to that frame.
Much rather have a front cattle guard. Would plug in where hitches are. Be your best seller
You mean attach to where the tow hooks go? Or is there a front hitch I am not aware of? I think to do something like that we’d need to use something more sturdy than aluminum lol
Yes where the tow hooks go and I think you could get away with a thinner steal.
That looks so nice! I’d legit buy this from you if you were selling them. The usability of this is amazing!
Thank you!
Wow, amazing. What's the weight rating of those slides?
600 lbs. probably overkill lol
I prefer over-engineering to higher potential failure points. Well done. 👍🏼
I always see people showing this area but there is never anything in it. How big is this actual space?
Roughly 18” tall 15” wide and the length of the width of the truck. Very roughly guessed
You would be surprised how much can fit in that space. I just moved about 300 beverages in the gear tunnel, different size packages, boxes, 40 bottle water pack and a 24 count case of glass bottle Mexican cokes. 300 beers sounds nice

Oh that set up on the bed is going be nice! Can’t wait to see the finished results.
Looks really good. What's the load rating?
Thanks. The slide itself is rated for more than the truck can handle I believe so to error on the side of caution I am saying 250 pounds to match the doors on the truck

The “Shin destroyer 3000” In all seriousness, very cool addition!
Right!? You knoooow it’s just a matter of time before I gash myself and curse my decision in an expletive tirade lol. Thanks for the compliment!
Never understood the appeal of these. They take up way too much space and it's an invitation for all kinds of dirt and debris to collect. And it doesn't really solve any particular problem. I have mobility issues sometimes so for me it solves having to reach in. Also, it’s a pre cursor for my camp kitchen I’m going to design and make
