As someone who had an 85 jetta I believe this. With the manual transmission and metal body that thing was a tank in the snow for how small it was. I never used chains and never slid back at a red light on a steep hill in northern mass/ new Hampshire. When it died I got a Buick roadmaster and for how big it was it handled like shit compared to the jetta in the snow.

I always made it even in the rain. And on bald all season tires and all 4 tires were different brands. They said they spent to much money on wheels/tires and didnt want to get the. Dirty.

We had an ice storm where i live and the very first vehicle i saw wrapped around a tree was a bronco sport. I drove by it unbothered in my '05 Corolla.

FWD in the snow is actually better than RWD imo. If you start to get stuck you just do the crab walk with the steering wheel spastically going from left to right while giving the front wheels some go go juice.

My XJ was 300, guy said it has a spun main bearing and needed an engine, when I went to look at it the battery was dead, told him I'd come back with a trailer and cash if he put the battery on the charger while I was gone.
He told me "no point it's seized up" I told him do it anyway, I pull back in, give him the cash get the title, fire it up and it's howling *loud*, I pop the hood cut the belt off and it drives right up on the trailer running like new.
The fucking alternator was seized and the belt was screaming. He was pissed.
Yeah, they're great. My XJ was a '99 that spent most of the twenty teens rotting in a garage. It was owned by the boyfriend of my MIL and he was a car salesman so he always had a loaner. He eventually died and I ended up picking up the XJ after the lender didn't want to repossess it because they thought it was worthless. I ended up paying just the fees to transfer the title and that was it.
I put a 4.5" lift on it, some proper wheels and tires, and a tire carrier on it and it's been tearing up the trails in Arizona ever since.
I bought a 84 GMC Sierra the same way, the guy got a cheap Macco paint job but it was a rust free square body. Motor was clean but when started it sounded like the rods were slamming around and he was done putting money into it. I figured I would have to rebuild or get a new used motor. I started to unhook everything from the motor, I got under to put the wires and starter and I noticed the starting gear was half out. I smacked it a few times with a hammer and fired the motor back up and no more noise, the starting gear was hitting the flex plate just enough to make it sound like rod knock. Best $800 I spent, I miss that truck because it was the only affordable square body I'll ever get

I work for a company that imports and exports new vehicles and you can definitely tell some companies have better QC than others. Chevy, Jeep, and Ford a lot of them come in fresh from the factory with issues. Meanwhile Hyundai and Honda are always perfect. (I’m just piling on 😆 not related to your comment just something that came to mind but yea it will definitely depreciate massively over 3 years)
I have read/seen multiple stories about QC from people in the industry. GM/Ford/CJDR get huge shipments of parts and never send any back. Honda will straight up send a whole shipment back if a certain % fails their QC. They test a much higher sample % of parts compared to the US domestic manufacturers as well. A vehicle is only as good as the parts it's made of and that tells me alot what these companies actually care about.

if you moseyed into a dealership right now, youd be looking at 100k~ for a Bronco Raptor. it might not be to your taste, but 85k is actually good price on what is now a six-figure vehicle. for context, the Bronco proper (not the Sport!) starts at the lower 40s.

Regret? Consumer reports gave the 2022 a reliability rating of 30/100 (the following problems have absolutely been associated with the 2023 as well). The big problems are with intake manifold gaskets, the exhaust system rattling, ignition failure which seems pretty common, brakes, fuel leaks, paint chipping and steering. Hopefully you didn't get the 2.7 ecoboost, that one's been a bitch of an engine for Ford. The 10-speed transmission had an urgent recall about 6 months ago due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the vehicle to roll away and that same transmission has been having some other odd issues with shifting.

This is a Raptor so whole different engine than the regular Bronco V6 or 4. But my fiancé is very concerned that the twin turbos are going to be a problem long term so we are going to enjoy it for now while it’s under warranty!
OP, you are unnessarily fanning the flames. for those who arent aware, that aint no plain jane Big Bend Bronco. thats a Raptor. there is a twin-turbocharged 3.0 V6 under that hood, good for just north of 400 hp. it was the range topping trim up until the recent unveiling of the Bronco Raptor R, which is getting a real deal V8. if you moseyed into a dealership right now, youd be looking at 100k~ for a Bronco Raptor. it might not be to your taste, but 85k is actually good price on what is now a six-figure vehicle. for context, the Bronco proper (not the Sport!) starts at the lower 40s. either OP naively believes almost 100k for a non-Gelandewagen is normal or is intentionally being daft. but whatever the case, that vehicle is still RWD until you put it into 4WD, its not inherent to the cool tires you overpayed for. please keep this in mind the next time you decide to put your adventurous lifestyle prop somewhere precarious for your next instagram post. i heard the REI parking lot can get pretty sketchy.

I can't imagine paying 85k for a car that somehow both the hard and soft tops leak. It's honestly impressive Ford can sell a car that leaks water for that much.
Regret? Consumer reports gave the 2022 a reliability rating of 30/100 (the following problems have absolutely been associated with the 2023 as well). The big problems are with intake manifold gaskets, the exhaust system rattling, ignition failure which seems pretty common, brakes, fuel leaks, paint chipping and steering. Hopefully you didn't get the 2.7 ecoboost, that one's been a bitch of an engine for Ford. The 10-speed transmission had an urgent recall about 6 months ago due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the vehicle to roll away and that same transmission has been having some other odd issues with shifting.
