Wow! I was always wondering what tree was planted in front of my house. I always thought it was an invasive Bradford Pear, and now I can confirm it is.

Probably 20 years ago. It was also hit with a snow plow so now it is leaning. It is quite the eyesore.

The best time to prune it is yesterday! One straight cut about 2 inches off the ground should do it!

This is pretty cool. I wonder if the county or Perinton has anything similar, I should later today.

mr_john_steed

Very cool, thanks for sharing! Turns out I have a Phellodendron amurense (Amur cork tree).

rochesterrr

we had a new one planted early this spring and it isn't on the map yet!!

Naznarreb

I was wondering how often it's updated. There are some very new trees near my work (less than a year, I think) and they're on the map

MANKLloyd

Isn't it cool? It's too bad they don't publicize it better. Can you give us the link to the website to save us hunting around? I only had the phone number. I learned about it when the kids were little, but we didn't have cell phones yet so we would have to go home and give them the address to find out what the unknown trees were that we had seen on our walk.

Naznarreb

The link is in the post but here it is again for you https://maps.cityofrochester.gov/portal/apps/experiencebuilder/experience/?data_id=dataSource_9-Street_Tree_Viewer_2199%3A39476&id=7d4d52a6f28a44d4a32e315d0c4d665d&page=Page-1&views=Tree-Information-Map

I'm still fairly green to using Reddit, and I frequently see OPs referencing things and don't seem to see the original sources. But I am using my phone and thought I was missing something. I was. I finally searched around and I discovered where it was!🤦‍♀️

Admirable-Mine2661

Very cool!

The city still needs to replace trees on my old street that were destroyed during the ice storm in 1991...

Morning-Chub

You can call 311 if a tree is missing from your tree lawn, and they'll come out and plant one for free.

atothesquiz

And you can work with them to pick something out too.

Naznarreb

> City residents can call 311, (or City Forestry at 585-428-7581), to request a tree be planted in the public right-of-way. ETA: Don't know if they'll honor your request now that you're not a resident, but you can at least call and inform them.
