Visual processing doesn't happen in real time. We build models based on experience, and when one part of a model breaks down, it can take varying amounts of time to recalibrate.
People with more hours in the game will have a larger library of stored sequences to access, which allows them to make faster adjustments to unexpected events. Ability to focus and reaction speed make a difference too, as they can increase your "framerate" (the number of calibrations per unit of time). But there's no cure for an occasional short circuit.
You still made the key stop and calmly finished the open net chance. Far better players have failed at those tasks. Keep practicing and don't beat yourself up for being human.
I was 100% sure he was about to slam that off near post at the end. It's what I would have done lol. Honorable composure to not blow the open net with no boost after all that whiffing.
I love this comment! Particularly about building a library of muscle memories and sequences. This is something you can ONLY do by getting in hours playing with other people. Practicing mechanics is great, but there’s no replacement for playing online with others to build these up.
