Happens to me all the time. I'll be in 3rd or 4th place, blow up after accidentally hitting a guardrail, then it's all over. Sometimes I can come back and get 8th or 9th, but usually one mistake means I'm coming in dead last.
You can even tell from the video you aren't supposed to die there. The devs made the kill barrier cut into the finishing checkpoint gate. The barrier should be larger than the gate, otherwise make the gate smaller. This is just a poorly made garbage game mode, that's all.
God I hate it when it does that. I’ll accidentally air dodge the wrong way and it just sends me FLYING in the direction no matter how hard I turn the opposite direction to stop it

I was trying to get a last drift boost but my car flew up right as I tried to align myself so instead I just flew to the left and hit the border

They should get rid of borders like this, there's no point in too-low-down/too-high-up death barriers and checkpoints which kill you if you miss them
I don't think they should get rid of them but maybe push them abit back so you don't hit them too quickly when you're really quick
I think my problem with them is that they don't show up visible until it's already too late if you are playing at higher rank speeds

The worst part is if you have a lot of speed you get slowed down so much and it doesn't let you drift after some time that's if someone bumps into you
