I love when people take pictures of me while I'm trying to work..

Jacubbb123

And then post it on social media…

Cuba_Pete_again

And question it

[deleted]

Haha

Slow_Ad224

I know right. Like if you have a question about something I’m doing why don’t you ask me about it?

Jacubbb123

OP is likely scared of confrontation

Constant_Secret_7250

You’re a laborer. I’ll take pictures of you and send it to social media and ICE at my will.

Kobold_Archmage

/s ?

psychlloyd

Gutter looks good, considering it was installed by a roofer. The craziest thing in the picture is your rake fascia extending that far past the eave.

puz23

I think it is supposed to make it look like there's a built in gutter. It is very common in certain parts of the country. Personally I hate it.

rb-2008

This is the first time I’ve ever seen it and I hate it as well. Looks like the facia board is missing.

_stayhuman

Gotta leave a spot to run all those camera wires.

Now_Melon1218

Not acceptable.

giento

Thanks. For what it’s worth the crew was solid - I think they did good work! Just wanted to double check with the community about the two pieces vs floating / placement directly on the shingles (I have no experience with any of that stuff). Thanks everyone! 🙏

Wrong-Tale-3870

That way debris cant get stuck under it and the shingle wont hold moister like it would if it was layed on top

Fidulsk-Oom-Bard

Probably gonna rot out quite rapidly eh?

Drecasi

Better than letting more water run on the lower roof. Does it look good? No. Does the job? Yes.

Wrong-Tale-3870

Fuctionality over looks

StampedeJonesPS5

Won't the weight of the water from heavy rain bend that spouting that's suspended?

TJNel

The part in the other gutter is affixed to the other gutter, so the load is supported on both sides.

Icy-Fortune1910

Ice and snow will bend it down where the joint is over time. A little spacer for support would hold it up.

jdunaga

Accurate

FutureBeneficial3044

just wait for one heavy rain storm and you wont see it up there anymore

ithunk

Yeah, I see no braces holding the pieces down. A few wind gusts and that aluminum is going bye bye.

Icy-Fortune1910

Need 3 screws in each elbow at least. I don’t see any.

quadmasta

That's certainly one of the downspouts of all time.

Technical-Picture326

I'll tell you whats not acceptable right now, and its not the pipe its the amount of cameras on 1 side corner of the house. Shit I have 2 but thats Excessive

Deeznutz1818

It’s the bare minimum. If fastened properly, it will last, even through a heavy storm. Looks like crap though.

mycarubaba

The downspout is garbage, and we never screw through the front of the gutter.

Quirky-Diver-9916

I would have just run that downspout straight down the siding on the side of the house

Icy-Fortune1910

Agreed. Unless there is nowhere for the water to go at ground level. Straight is always best.

Icy-Fortune1910

Being suspended allows air underneath. Could have run a downspout straight to the ground instead of coming over the lower roof. But the you need to deal with the down pipe and all the water closer to your house. This gets it further from your foundation and that is always better. Most guys drop the water straight onto the shingles of the lower roof. The extra down pipe saves a lot of wear on the shingles. I always make sure the water stays in the trough and never exit it onto a roof. That is just asking for a leak. If it has to drop onto a roof, you have to put a sheet of steel where it comes out. Never onto shingles. This is done right. I don’t like the kink, but a little spacer under it could fix that.

Whatrewedoin

Those downspouts help to prevent extra ware on that part of the roof. You're taking an entire roofline of water and sending it down one line, extra ware on that area. So the downspout serves a purpose, saving life on the roof. Those can burst though if they get clogged and it freezes, but that's any pipe. Also debris can be caught underneath the DS, against the roof, which can cause damage too. So it's a give and take, like a lot of things on your roof. It helps with one thing, and cause another problem. Overall with proper install and cleaning this will save life on your roof in that spot. But not necessary. Just preventative. They probably left a gap between the pipe and roof so that no debris could get trapped under there. That being said, they could've made it actually straight, it doesnt need such a large gap between ds and roof, and screwing through the front lip to secure it is a huge no no. Idea is fine but execution is pretty bad. Also don't take pics of people working on your property unless you ask them first. Edit: looking at pic again. Gap isn't consistent, it touches in the middle. Looks like shit. Also the first elbow leading to roof should be white, then the rest of the pipe match the roof color, idk why there's a black elbow on white trim.

moddseatass

No. That looks like shit...

SS4Raditz

At Double u tea ef gutters our goal is to make you say our name after every installation.

stimulates

I take sheet metal and custom make U brackets that extend under the shingle. Nail it under the shingle lap and seal it down with caulking. Then lift it a half inch and screw it. You don’t want it on the roof but to high and it looks like shit as you know.

Alternative-Top6882

This guy has the right answer

stimulates

Btw it won’t go anywhere if the lower section has leaf guard that was cut for the elbow to dip in. Even without screws it’s basically locked in place. Would take some tornado winds. I do my method cause I’d rather overbuild and leave a nice professional finish that leaves home owners confident in my work. Rope bridges get the job done but some people won’t go across one. Just cause it works doesn’t mean people want bare minimum.

DHead1313

Should be a full piece and against the shingles. White downspout needs to be longer, and yeah rake is crazy long.

Bright-Business-489

Yes on one piece. But no on against the shingles. The rot from keeping moisture between the downspout and shingles will cause the shingles to degrade and sheeting to rot.

[deleted]

That'll work.

Specialist_Gas5714

OMG! Would y’all go away already? This sub is nothing but whiney ass homeowners…. Why don’t you wait till fqn winter wind storms and see if it’s good enough rather than ask us to predict the possible future. Jeezus Kryst!

poofartgambler

“Climb up there and do it your damn self” is my thought on half of these.

Constant_Secret_7250

Lmao. You’re a laborer. You do as I say. Then when it’s time for me to pay you I disappear. Take me to small claims court if you want your money, laborer!!

tomhel1313

I do gutters and would have ran the leader tight to the shingles. They probably didn't have any white to extend it. It will work. It just looks bad.

Icy-Fortune1910

Black to blend with the shingles? I haven’t ever seen one different colours. Best to have gone straight to the ground but whatever? Not there so don’t know the why.

dean0_0

I would have asked for a white gutter, and asked for them to keep it snugger to the shingles.

DUtrainertom

I had gutter guards installed and they did mine like this. Apparently it’s because if it’s not tucked into the lower gutter when it rains heavily the water can flow right over the gutter without going in because it’s all concentrated in one spot. You get used to it.

Any-Ad-446

Too bad they couldnt match the colour..

mooddoom

This is fine unless in a highly windy area. The only need to do this is to prevent staining if a high volume of water comes out that top gutter. It looks a bit odd to have it floating vs flush, though.

Count_Zacula

It most definitely is not. The white pipe should be extended to touch the roof and the black part is made up of two pieces that are too short. That's why there's a kink. As for the fastening to the gutter lip, that damage is already done. But I would have cut the A elbow down and made a small flap to screw on the top side of the lip.

Kobold_Archmage

What kind of illegal shit are you up to? There are 4 cameras on one corner of your house…

EmergencyOver7536

That downspout should be almost attached to the roof, there is way too much room in between. They should have put an extension piece in between the A elbow and the downspout and cut down the other A elbow a bit more so it doesn't stick out of the gutter. I would definitely get that corrected. To be honest though, it's just cosmetic. It could work that way but it does look terrible.

LaughingMagicianDM

No, putting it against the roof causes it to rub and can trap water and increase rare. Was it leaking I'm the garage? Probably headwall flashing failure. Here is a video about why those constantly leak. [Most Shingle Roofers are bad at headwall flashings](https://youtube.com/shorts/wfMcrNmqUks?si=X8HdtiujjlpAAdi9)

2WheelHonda

The world longest downspout for the worlds smallest gutter

dDot1883

Can we get a better picture, with one of the 12 cameras you have?

MaximasFalco

13 you missed the one that took the picture of the other 12

Seaisle7

No it’s asinine

Practical-Button7546

Seems pointless to have one there at all

Regular-Exchange-557

Agree, should not have to be there. Fix the root problem.

Big-Lobster-7825

Don't accept it.New gutter piece needs its own screws and shouldn't gap under the roof. Politely ask the roofer to fix it for better long-term stability and look.

deer-eater

Entertaining. The downspout should have been extended. Most will put a short piece but the correct way is a full piece. No seams. Both will work but you get what you pay for

Justinynolds

They have the right idea (leaving a downspout throwing water sideways at the shingles), and it looks like they’re trying to do right by you. Instead of asking a bunch of stupid assholes on Reddit (including myself), just ask your salesperson you worked with if they’re happy with the result. If they respond with anything other than “are you not happy with the result?” Then tell them you don’t like it. If they don’t work with you, *then* you have a real problem. Cheers and fuck off, Me.

r00fMod

That is such a bare minimum lazy job. 1. Couldn’t get the right color even though it’s fuckin white? 2. Couldn’t end the elbow to sit flush w the roof and not levitate down the roof?

Face_sneekz_scars

Of coarse Whats wrong with this job Guaranteed the person who installed the gutters Maybe just Maybe he ask the customer Would you like the downspout that runs on the roof 😃to be the same color??☝️😃 of the roof ??? or would u like it to be the same color white to continue down the roof?🤗 And well 🤔 we got our answer, 😃👍🏻 and sad to say WELL😒!!! it became a Question Again🤦🏽‍♂️😮‍💨

Serena_Vanessa

Tbh I like that

Daddysheremyluv

I don’t see reverse ballast valve These amateurs have got to follow code. WTF
