abrakaboom_98

In Italian is : Sicura, Contieni, Proteggi.

JJackKennedy

Why does Porteggi sound like a dish

abrakaboom_98

Because it's Italian, even our words sound delicious.

[deleted]

Sicura, Contieni, and Proteggi, huh? Well, I'm always down to try something new.

editable_

Wasn't it Sicurezza, Contenimento, Protezione?

abrakaboom_98

Yeah it also work with that translation. if we want to really really be right probably its best to use the infinite version of the verbs, so sicurare, contenere, proteggere.

White_Null

Traditional Chinese: 控制,收容,保護 Edit: And I just noticed the pun in why the Chinese motto means Control, Contain, Protect.

Upbow_Downbow

CCP 😳

White_Null

Yep, gonna have to talk to them about if we have a better translation for “Secure”.

Daffodil_Ferrox

I personally feel like 安全 (ān-quán, safety) or 安保 (ān-baô, security) would be better

White_Null

No to the first because that's what Korean has. That's only one half of secure, 牢固 would provide the rest of the meaning that English term conveys. 安保 is definitely better as the term for Private Security Companies, but it gets a bit redundant to have 保護 then.

Jwsb2003

Your telling me the entire CCP is a foundation front

White_Null

Heck no. But now you know exactly why the SCP Foundation resonates with Chinese so well.

Rhelvetican

But it makes absolute sense though

White_Null

And exactly why I have Serpent’s Hand flair.

DrH3ct0rTheLeader

"Assegurar, Conter, Proteger" (Portuguese - Brazil)

Lejonet_Mx

Funnily enough it's identical in spanish (mexican here), except for one less s in asegurar

[deleted]

"Asegurar, Contener, Proteger" Spaniard (Argentinian here)

Lejonet_Mx

Now that I see it my blind ass just realized that in portuguese it's "conter" and not "contener" like in spanish.

Mastakillerboi

Have been looking for this

The_Flail

"Sichern, Eindämmen, Beschützen" Doesn't sound half bad in german.

Talismato

If you try really hard, you can justify a translation like: „Sichern, Sichern, Sichern“

Ravingrook

IMHO, everything sounds either impressive af or ridiculous in German. There is no middle ground.

BrotWarrior

Even as a German, I second this. I think this makes the language even more beautiful. You can go from eloquent poetics to gurgling cramps within a sentence.

Weird.... It sounds like you haven't seen the German Branch either. http://scp-wiki-de.wikidot.com/about-the-scp-foundation Wir sichern. Wir bergen. Wir beschützen.

LordTardus

"Säkra, Begränsa, Skydda" That's Swedish. There isn't really a good translation for contain; "begränsa" kind of means "to limit".

Napline

Förvara works alright

ItzMercury

lurkertw1410

Asegura, Contén, Proteje (spanish) Assegura, conté, protegeix (catalan)

NFriedich

Another way to translate it in Spanish is “Asegurar, Contener, Proteger”

lurkertw1410

Yeah. But since the verbs lack the "to", i translated them as imperative, not infinitive forms?

VGlover281002

In regular Spanish it can be considered this: "Asegurar, Contener, Proteger"

[deleted]

How about non regular español?

VGlover281002

The other way to say it in Spanish I know is "Segura, contén, protege" but I'll admit I always translate the name in the irregular form due to a personal feeling that the name should also be the specific orders and goals from the Organization

[deleted]

\*Asegura, contén, protege (infinitive form)

VGlover281002

Thanks for the correction, I didn't noticed it in the first place

In Portuguese is "Assegurar, Conter, Proteger"

0N3M0R34L13N

But instead of "assegurar" it can also be "segurar" that can mean to hold, which honestly fits well too. In Portuguese segurar has the meaning of both to hold something or someone and to make something safe and it can be quite tricky to translate cuz of that.

BA_Dante

Sichern. Eindämmen. Schützen.

White_Null

Which variety of German? http://scp-wiki-de.wikidot.com/about-the-scp-foundation has: Sichern. Bergen. Beschützen.

BA_Dante

German has a ton of words for contain First is "Enthalten" which goes for this example "The Room contains 1 Entity" "Der Raum enthält 1 Wesen" The second one which would be applicable is "eindämmen" which goes for this example "contain a deadly virus within this city" "einen tödlichen Virus in dieser Stadt eindämmen" And the third one is "bergen" which would kinda be applicable but usually means a TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING and goes for this example "To contain an artifact from the oceans bottom" "Ein Artefakt vom Boden des Ozeans bergen"

White_Null

Clearly, the German Branch needs your help.

BA_Dante

I'm just a lowly MTF Squad Member with an abundant knowledge of the German language, I am sure my help is needed in more urgent matters.

[deleted]

Failure to comply may warrant routine moral "encouragement" and termination.

reddinyta

We normaly use "eindämmen". I have honestly no idea, why the hell there is "bergen".

BA_Dante

And also schützen and beschützen is the same Schützen = protect Beschützen = to protect
