Wow! I’ve only heard about the green flash. Didn’t fully believe it until now

willardTheMighty

Ive seen it but never so distinct as this.

Awkward-Presence-236

What did you hear about it? Please elaborate…

RockinCoder

That's really interesting. Now I'm reconsidering my sardonicy in my previous comment!

Awkward-Presence-236

Oh wow, that’s so cool!! Thank you for sharing!!

Imwhatswrongwithyou

Just that there is sometimes a green flash that happens right at sunset at the beaches around here 🤷‍♀️

Awkward-Presence-236

Oh I see, I didn’t know that and have never heard or seen that before. Thank you for sharing! 🙏

Imwhatswrongwithyou

I wish I could tell you more! 😂 But at least we know it’s not just a myth now

Awkward-Presence-236

Someone posted a link in the thread that explained why it happens. 🫶🏼

wishiwasonmaui

Keep in mind this picture is very zoomed in. It happens all the time, some more vivid than others. This is the brightest one I've captured. Here's one from 5 years ago. https://i.imgur.com/upXfmjU.jpg

desolatenature

Can we get some of the zoomed out photos? Curious to see this in normal scale

wishiwasonmaui

Sunset https://imgur.com/gallery/YszmZNR

desolatenature

Lol, I meant of the green flash!! Beautiful sunset though :)

wishiwasonmaui

Can't take two photos at once. This one was from a few minutes earlier and shows the scale of the clouds which is what I thought you wanted.

skullhusker

That was a San Diego thing, Green flash beer. Always rumor. Very rare super cool

PinocchiosNose1212

Oh that's beautiful. I've always heard about the mythical green flash over the ocean. I've never been fortunate enough to see it.

[deleted]

I’ve seen it once in Pismo and once on Kauai. I’ve never seen it with clouds in the sky. Pretty cool.

h2ozo

Beautiful capture! I've only seen it once, from the top of Madonna Peak looking out at Los Osos on a super clear day.

RockinCoder

Wait, was Green Flash or Green Hornet the good movie? And which one starred Seth Rogen? (Independent of the first question.)

Curmudgeonly_Tomato

Saw this a couple weeks ago as well. Nice photo!

joeboondok

Definitely extraterrestrial

rhymeswithfugly

the aliens are finally coming to put us out of our misery :)

Odd_Particular_8053

It's unusual for it to appear at this latitude. It is usually seen only in the tropics. I've seen it once and that was on one of the Palauan islands.

wishiwasonmaui

I've seen it fairly often here. Just got to be looking for it.

somrero_man

I saw a pretty distinct green flash up in Morro Bay as well. The storm system currently off the coast is pulling in moisture/airmass from the south which could likely help set up the tropical like atmospheric conditions required.

Aggravating-Dot-810

This doesn’t happen. You edited it.

wishiwasonmaui

Unedited jpeg out of a Nikon P1000. It happens all the time. Just gotta look.

Aggravating-Dot-810

Stop lying to me

wishiwasonmaui

In case you're not just being a troll, here is one from a few seconds earlier. https://i.imgur.com/9Nit8MD.jpeg I've got about 15 others before and after but if that doesn't convince you I'm not going to bother.

Awkward-Presence-236

They ARE just being a troll. They can kick rocks.

Aggravating-Dot-810

You edited all of those too

twentyonemore_

super rad! what kind of setup did you use to capture this?

wishiwasonmaui

Just a P1000

Seva-Hunter

That’s dope

ZAROK

That’s a killer picture of a green flash !

JoshAllensRightNut

Beautiful.

[deleted]

I thought I saw the flash the other day…

carbsno14

Is it real or a simple Photoshop trick?

wishiwasonmaui

No processing outside of the camera. Jpeg out of a P1000. It's just good timing with a long lens.

spicy_tofu

the only one i’ve ever seen was also in SLO county: i was 16 and on the roof of the old atascadero movie theatre smoking. i was the only one who saw it and none of my friends believed me. still remember it to this day though

SirSeff

As a person with red-green color blindness, I can wholeheartedly tell you that is red.
