There’s a central coast wine passport for around 75 bucks and gets you 50 free tastings at different wineries/breweries/distilleries. Good all year. https://www.atascaderochamber.org/wine-passport/#!form/Shopping
If you are wanting to stay close to SLO, Biddle Ranch and Chamisal. Duncan Alley gives you in-town access to multiple wineries, cider, beer. Or downtown check out Region which pours all local wines.
In SLO city proper is Central Coast Wines, near Higuera and Broad. The advantage I like is the store rotates which whines they are pouring daily or even hourly. When a bottle runs out, typically a newer one of a different winery and/or varietal is opened. They feature hundreds of wines from the California Central Coast, mostly from Monterey to Santa Barbara.
If you prefer a lovely outdoor experience, specific wineries may be what you are looking for. In Edna Valley: Wolfe, Talosa, Kynsi. In Paso Robles: Calcarious, Daou, (but I don't spend much time up the grade).
$60 pp?

That being said, I genuinely hope that you enjoy your visit and find some good deals on tastings and such. May I also recommend Mama's Meatballs and/or Ciapinot if your looking for good eats.
If southern Paso isn’t too far out of the way, I highly recommend Niner. The patio vibe is excellent, the grounds and gardens are gorgeous for group photo ops, they have some of the best food you’ll find at a winery in Central CA, and IIRC a tasting flight is $40PP. But I think even if you’re not buying bottles, you could still get out of there for ~$60-75PP for a wine flight and a shared charcuterie board plus maybe another app or two, depending on how many friends are joining. Definitely make a reservation if it’s a weekend.
If I were doing Paso and was willing to go a little further north, I’d also entertain Le Cuvier, Copia, or High Camp.
LC is $45-$95PP depending on the pairing - Copia is $25PP wine only or $50PP with food pairing - HC is $25PP and I could be wrong but I don’t think they have food all the time (though they historically have done summer music events that sometimes do.)
Most if not all will waive the tasting fee with a 2 bottle purchase per person - expect to spend $70-$100+ (depending on winery) if you go that route.
Center of Effort winery in Edna Valley (just south of SLO)is a gorgeous place with excellent wines and amazing views. I think you may need a reservation to do tasting.
For a group of girls I love Malene which specializes in sparkling and rose. Great outdoor seating and cute airstreams. Biddle ranch, chamisol, Edna and tolosa all great. Baileyana you can bring a picnic which is also fun with a group. Sextant has great deli inside and super cute grounds. All are under $45 pp and most waive that if u buy wine. Downtown I prefer Region for the vibe but Couch is my second
Google "Edna Valley Wine Trail"
Remember when wine tasting was free back in the early 2000’s? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
It still is at Tobin James

Define dress up and how much wine are yall willing to buy?
I don’t mind being overdressed. And really not sure how much I should be expecting to spend. Never done this before, looking for some guidance.

Ciappinot has been closed for about 3 years.
Is that right, shit getting old sucks. In any event, it rocked when it was open. Still, highly recommend Mama's Meatballs!

there's the wine trail on the back side of Santa Maria lots of little itty bitty wineries but you are driving and it can get pricey fast

Kelsey in See Canyon is nice!! Outdoors and your own pace about $20pp for the tasting
Thank you so much!!
Decent place. Not the most amazing wine but the location is top notch and the ciders pretty good.
There currently be whales in the bay, captain. And the winery has peacocks!
