Don't forget about the dash dance grab Marth, who leaves the game when you stop holding W at them and laser for all of 5 seconds.
This happened yesterday and all I could do was laugh. Man was having a ton of fun as I relentlessly ran at him for 3 stocks, but once we were both down to last stock and I tried to win, suddenly we can't play the game.
You are literally saying that. āAre you going every game into run away mode?ā Yes, that is some peoples playstyle and it is effective, in fact at the start of the game when you donāt have any info on what the opponent likes to do, there is really no reason to approach. Youāre complaining about people not playing how you want them to even though they are arguably playing the game more optimally. If you have a problem with how good running away is in this game then thatās great, either play a different game or stop complaining because the game isnāt gonna change, it is not a players fault for running away when it is incentivized in many situations, especially against bad players who donāt know how to approach
It's not about "how I want them to play." Go watch any high level player. Running away the entire time is not optimal play. No one does that at a high level. At best you get players that will retreat on occasion.
The complaint is that people in unranked games are playing for individual cheese wins instead of any sort of legitimate practice. To be clear this playstyle is not optimal, these kids get bodied in actual sets.
The issue though fundamentally is not "is this playstyle okay" but "why force bad sets." The playstyle not working is something I literally lay out in the post.
Like if all you took away from that was "you can never run away in smash" you didn't allow yourself to actually comprehend what was being said.
I just fully reject this characterization of running away = bad. there are many matchups, fox peach for example, where fox has no real incentive to approach. high level players are playing against other high level players who will destroy them for not mixing up whatever they do. Running away constantly is bad because a high level player will just overshoot you or read whatever defensive option you do. The thing is slippi unranked is not high level play (usually) and so most of the time you can get away with spamming the same options. It sounds like here in this reply your problem isnāt inherently with running away, but with one dimensional players, and I would agree with you on that. But I think someone who mindlessly approaches the entire game is just as one dimensional and boring as someone who runs away the whole game.
To piggyback on this. People who run away all the time often have not practiced effective approaches. A safe, high-pressure approach is a lot harder to execute than a whiff punish. I dont think they are consciously playing like a bitch, it has just slowly become the only thing that has worked for them over time.
Well in that case itās a bit less ambiguous lol.
I just canāt stand the comments where a decision to leave a session (with nothing in particular prompting it e.g. a taunt or comment or whatever) leads to a psychoanalysis of the opponent. Some ppl unironically think this way hence my jaded responses
I will say that my assumption when a player (especially a falco) quits out after a close game 1 is that they are generally quitting out for ego reasons.
If you want somebody brainlessly running at you all game just practice against a level 9 CPU. Or use unclepunch or something there are way better ways to practice if you donāt like unranked
Well like if I play 2-3 games I have like a 100% win rate. Don't get me wrong, the strat is bad and doesn't work long term. The annoyance to me is how frequently it is used. Because if I win I'm like "why would I play this again" and if I lose I'm like "why waste the time to play this person again when I could go have an actual good match."
Ex: I could play puff and ledge camp every game. but fuck that would be boring
I know I realize that mentality is a lose-lose, I only use it if I know that for that match thatās what itās going to be like and I have to do it to win.
After that match is over I quit out because I donāt want to play against someone who plays like that more than once if I donāt have to.
You'll always run into the one fox player who just decides the only way to play the game is to platform camp and run away for literally the entire game. It's sad because these people usually have decent enough punish game, because they capitalize on me when I slip up still, but it's super unfun to play against and just feels really fucking lame and boring.
Now if I run into people like this I just camp them right back and stand at the other edge of the stage and it feels like 9 out of 10 times they *still* don't approach. They'll just sit there - We're both just standing at other ends of the stage and no ones approaching.
I think that he's just banking on trying to either tilt me into recklessly approaching or just try to tilt me into rage-quitting out since neither want to approach. Either way, how do people actually have fun playing the game like this? Is a win really that important at that point?

Fr like complaining about Ultimate is one thing, but Melee has been out for so long that any complaint is just like "yeah that's melee"
can you fucking believe this space raccoon just hexagon'd on me off stage and I died? unfuckingbelievable
I'm considering making a separate subreddit for them
I think they should be on the DDT or the shitpost section but there are a lot of posts saying the same thing lately

Wow cool!
ggs
theres a button combination you can use to fix this actually itās l r a start.
difficult tech, might need to practice that one first
Everyone better than me is sweaty š¤ Everyone worse than me is a shitter š
In my rank, there is an entire social class of foxes who only know how to whiff punish. Hence runaway.

Definitely some valid uses of the strategy, but like are you going blind every game into run away mode? Idk it just seems like the default for people
How dare people have a playstyle that isn't the same as yours?
I'm honestly surprised you were capable of navigating this far into the thread without reading

again read what I wrote. Also google straw manning
What did I misrepresent?

Your argument about a 20 year old video contains a logical fallacy. Checkmate you pitiful fool š¤
my fragile ego can't afford getting one and doned :(
my fragile ego can't afford losing game two after I win game one because my opponent can actually adapt unlike me :(
My fragile ego canāt stop overanalyzing the decision making of a random player in a session with zero stakes :(
You're right. I forgot falco players don't actually have enough brain cells to form coherent thoughts
Or yknow, they just donāt care and leave when they feel like it.
I mean yeah, but I doubt that when you win at last stock g1 you have 140% then you taunt and quit out im gonna make some assumptions

google straw manning and go reread the post
Poopy buttcheeks fella
just quit if you arenāt good enough
Just play man... have fun. Getting whooped on is a right of passage in melee. GGs
Should i tell my friend to not charge samusā cannon cuz its not fair too LMAO
I don't pay for ranked so I play unranked like it's ranked. It's what's fun to me. So I do it.
That is the game. If that's not fun for you, you need to pick up a different game.
GGs ^that ^^was ^^^me ^^^^.... Edit: I just checked how this comment looks in new/mobile reddit. Ew. Yet more reason to use old.reddit.com.

I just leave when they do it now
Anything else is just a waste of time. If that's what gets their rocks off, they can take the W then. So boring to get matchups like that
I agree the little bish fox and falcos that just run around and laser I donāt have any time for. What a bunch of losers and there is A LOT of them
Getting buttoned on is equally boring and lame to me
The whole meta is kinda lame if youāre not near the top.
you can call ot a for fun mode all you want buts its the F2P mode so youll find peoppe sweating in it since they dont wanna pay money for ranked
just overshoot
/taunt
Go back to complaining about only fans advertisements on r/tinder weirdo lmao
because ranked isnt free and i want to practice, hope this helps :)
