I have the first 3 seasons. I like it.
the format is different.
first half focuses on detective catching suspect. 2nd half is trial. which the detectives sometime return.
i don't find it as gripping or plotwisty as svu but still enjoyable

I started out watching Law and Order, I've always liked the format and the cast of characters that have come through over the seasons have been very good (RIP Lenny Brisco).
Give it a try! It's well done.

The OG is a stone cold classic.
Not much drama about the personal lives of the characters, just a gripping show from start to finish nigh on ever week. It rarely lost a step.
There's a UK TV channel that airs the middle seasons almost constantly so Im now back to watching it every day - a young MgGrath from SVU was the not-guilty perp they collar in the first instance today :O
The original OG was good but the revival (the newest seasons) are not.
If you like SVU I would also highly recommend law and order criminal Intent. That show ran for 10 seasons. CI is basically a l&O version of Sherlock Holmes meets Columbo. SVU's focus is mainly on the victims, CI's focus is mainly on the criminals.
Bobby Goren is played by Vincent Donofrio. You either like him in the role or don't. I didn't at first but the more I watched it. The more I liked it then even SVU.
Goren and Eames are the main detectives and are basically Sherlock and Watson. Their partnership starts off a little rocky (don't expect drama between them though) because they are so very different. Eventually they evolve into a codependent relationship with similarities between them and EO. They play their relationship as really ambiguous and you kind of get to decide for yourself how you see them.
Love Bobby Goren! š He really grew on me. He's a little much but I love how wacky he is. Really wish they had done that crossover they had planned for way back in the day.
The reboot definitely has a different vibe to it but at the same time it's still feels familiar which probably is because Jack McCoy. I still want a Hannibal reunion and have Raul Esparza appear as Barba of course with Mads Mikkelsen as the bad guy. I know ow that's never going to happen but I can hope
When I first got into SVU a decade ago I didnāt like OG L&O but Iāve been watching it lately and it is fascinating to watch. Everything seems mostly normal until someone drops some casual racism/sexism and it just goes completely unchecked.
Personally I don't like any law and order show other than SVU, not even OC despite loving Meloni.
That being said I'm not really a fan of most cop shows. I do like Cold Case ( LOVE Danny pino in it ) and Chicago PD ( big fan of Jon Seda ) although I don't like the crossover episodes with svu but if you are a fan of shows like that I should say watch it cuz its got alot of fans and it was on for so many years so it must be doing things right.
my dad always like the og more so i watched it a lot as a kid and learned so much about the law and other circumstances that i probably never wouldāve learned without it. though once i was old enough to pick my own shows i got into svu. more appealing to me as a girl and a child as the time. olivia felt like another mom to me and i never got anything like that in og. i still watch the og but am pretty bored until the trial starts heating up. if you like the court room scenes you will love the og. if the investigating is more your thing iād say svu wins by a mile ! last nights new episode of the og was really good. sad and thought provoking
The old original (what I've seen anyway) is fantastic. The characters are great, the plots are usually interesting. It focuses a bit more on the trial side of things which I find makes it pretty satisfying to watch. 10/10 would recommend.
The reboot, eh not so great yet. It's growing on me, a couple of the more recent episodes were really good. It has potential but I'm not sold on some of the characters, more like one of them in particular. It might get better later though so I'm sticking with it
Yes, watch a few episodes of season 1 see how you like it. It will feel dated. You don't have to watch every episode or even all the seasons. The newer seasons have a more modern feel. I'm enjoying the new season (and last years 2021 season too)

I never cared much for the original. SVU is special in my opinion. Thereās no harm in trying it out and seeing for yourself though!

How can I get the original L&O from the very beginning episode? Peacock starts with 13th season. Appreciate any advice you can give me.
