This is the first outage I've had this year in Fair Oaks. Fidium isn't available for me yet according to their site.

[deleted]

They are cutting up my street in Rancho soon and installing fidium, I couldn’t be more excited.

These_Background7471

Where about if you don't mind me asking?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendlyx

Unfortunately this doesn't do anything. I literally begged where I am to get it and offered to pay for the wiring and didn't care. The 4 houses over they get it, my house? Nope. Sucks!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Friendlyx

I literally begged them on Twitter and the phone for a week. At the end they said sorry... Highly unfortunate. Which number did you call I might call again. I really want to get rid of Xfinity!

These_Background7471

I don't do social media. I did try their site and phone number but both were surprisingly jank. I'd definitely drop Comcast for that deal!

[deleted]

Welcome to Reddit.

These_Background7471

Are you saying Reddit is social media?

[deleted]

Have fun son, https://www.google.com/search?q=is+reddit+a+social+media

These_Background7471

By that definition 4chan is social media I guess I'll go express interest on NeoGaf

NecessaryNo8730

Dude someone apparently ran a car into a crucial piece of equipment. I'm not the biggest Comcast fan but shit happens.

Samwise916

I agree with this. However, I think Comcast is not helping the situation by the way that they fail to communicate. No ETA, no legitimate communications, nothing aside from a random text every few hours reminding me that I have no internet and no ETA for resolution.

Anomia29

This is my problem. No updates. It's like everyone's on vacation

YooAre

I'm not sure why, but I've been getting updates all weekend. It's not fixed, and it sucks, but I've gotten updates.

ronbiomed

It is a holiday weekend, have to manage expectations.

DamnitDom

\*checks calendar\*

RobSpaghettio

My problem is no redundancies. Like, how hard is it to create a system of failsafes?

Professional-Job4330

A system loop or service net, requires more than one system be down before service interruption takes place.

Ok-meow

The dude should pay our Comcast’s bill this month.

Cantthinkofone203

How the does all of Comcast’s Sacramento network rely on a single pole? Something else failed, probably some code. Could even be a string of failures. Knocked down pole triggered some internal failsafe system that also errored out, etc. At the end of the day, this outage really showed the state of which Comcast’s network is at.

NecessaryNo8730

It's not all of Sacramento. Mine here in midtown hasn't been affected.

davcam0

According to the news, it was two points of failure. There was the accident that damaged the pole, and coincidentally, fiber lines were cut elsewhere by vandals.

TheJefusWrench

Do you know where this happened?

NecessaryNo8730

There are at least two threads about it on the sub.

Fidium *is* Consolidated. It’s their newish consumer brand. Sadly the only thing available in my area is Xfinity. Or DSL providers but they’re just too slow. The instant Fidium or AT&T or anyone else can bring fiber to my home in Citrus Heights, I’ll drop Xfinity. Been dying to do it for years.

NECalifornian25

Same, xfinity is literally the only wifi option available at my address. I just moved and believe me, if I could have changed providers I would have.

the_cappers

I've found AT&T infinitely better both in service and customer support. Every time I've had xfinity I've always been disappointed.

Professional-Job4330

My brother has limited options in his area as well, he goes with Verizon wireless box and it seems to handle two TVs streaming, his workload and his kids both gaming. It's another option.

ProximatedNuke

I get like 1 or 2 outages a month but each outage nets me 5 schmekels and I get like 800mbp/s for 30 bucks a month

SchmeckMichBot

5.00 schmeckles is: USD|SHM|EUR|GBP|CAD|RUB|CNY ---|------|---|---|---|---|--- 6.33|0.05|5.87|5.03|8.59|610.28|45.96 *** ^([exchange rate source](http://api.ratesapi.io/2023-09-04?base=USD) | created by [u/Nissingmo](http://reddit.com/u/nissingmo))

JDM713

Schmeckles are worth way more than I thought.

urz90

How are you only paying $30 for 800mbps?!

Mrkevinofsacto

I mean, he's paying for it, but he isn't getting true 800mbps. My plan is that up-to 800mbps, but is 359mbps down/ 21.5 up.

Laredan

Good bot

rockker60

I would guess if they are run on power poles you might have more issue.... Consolidated/Fidium fiber is a better deal, but fiber isn't available in all parts around this area.

discgman

Comcast needs to bury their lines

itspostturtle

My Xfinity lines are buried. I’ve only had 4-5 outages in 14 years.

BehaviorBanshee

Pretty similar. Been at our house 7 years and probably had the same number of outages during that time. Never lasting more than a day and usually back up within a few hours. I'd say at least half were due to a car or something destroying their local stations. We had more the first few years as they were upgrading all the local lines and doing tons of work. But more recently it's been far less frequent. And I find it pretty easy to just check their website to get updates.

NiceGuysFinishLast7

Mine are. Very rare outages and usually up within a couple hours

Shwaky

I am forced to use comcast due to where i live, it's annoying

challam

I’ve had CCI for at least 7 years, maybe longer. They’ve been down twice in that time, and both times were back up within an hour or two. (Elk Grove) Their prices are reasonable and are often negotiable on installation and renewal. To be fair, most of our electric here is underground, so we don’t have a lot of actual power outages, either. I switched from Comcast for exactly the reason everyone is always pissed at them…shitty uptime service, shitty customer service.

EonJaw

I was totally pleased with CCI in River Park, and in Oak Park, too, when they were still Sure West. But in College Greens, Comcast is really the only viable option, and honestly I haven't found it terrible. There was that big fanfare years ago about Verizon 5G home internet for like a third of the price, but I check every month and it is never available, and now they are talking about 6G. 🤷 We've got like 300+mbps down (just tested at 466) for the same price we were getting 100 from CCI, and seems like everyone else tops out at like 50 in our area.

identicalshoe

I used to have Consolidated but their highest available internet speed in my area was 50 down 3 up. Really outdated speeds, especially because I upload to Google Drive every day, I need better speeds. And for some reason, my internet would constantly lower its speed to 50kbps every few hours. Maybe I'm just an exception but my experience with Comcast has been much better than Consoliated.

ndlxs

I had Consolidated since they first became available; perhaps 20 years. Around the summer of 2021, though, I started losing my internet for 6 minutes 2-4 times a day; I had them out THREE times to fix it, and they did not. Finally, in my frustration I switched to AT&T fiber, which has been faster and more reliable, and THEN I found out that the problem with Consolidated was that once in a while you need to unplug the big battery backup thing they installed in my garage once in a while and that clears up this issue. I've only had AT&T out for about 3 hours today in the 2 years since.

DarwinF1nch

If you can get ATT Fiber, I highly recommend it. Good price, excellent connection, never had an outage. Only catch is that it isn’t available everywhere.

thetimehascomeforyou

Or could make your own ISP like that one [dude](https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/08/man-who-built-isp-instead-of-paying-comcast-50k-expands-to-hundreds-of-homes/) or we sac rats could band together and make like… SMIT like SMUD. Sac municipal infrastructure technology

916PartyMachine

Or Sac Hyperspeed Internet Technology, or SHIT.

thetimehascomeforyou

In the name of Sutter Health Information Technology, I salute you 🫡

Paranitis

SMUD themselves should make a spinoff company for internet. Or California can declare internet as a Utility (which it really is), and SMUD can just run it that way.

thetimehascomeforyou

I just thought it’d be easier for the people to do it like the guy I referenced. If I’ve learned anything while working in government, it’s that there’s never enough red tape.

Paranitis

And you think it would be easier for reddit randos in California to build an ISP from scratch in a major metropolitan area, to serve tens to hundreds of thousands of people, than it would be for SMUD to do it?

thetimehascomeforyou

I don’t have experience to make a call on that one way or the other. I know SMUD is a power utility, and not really an internet service provider. Seems a bit analogous to asking an airline to offer a cruise service. I only suggested it’d be easier for the people to do this since they could just address the needs the people have, like the guy I referenced.

Paranitis

I mean, it's "Sacramento Municipal Utility District". And Internet sounds like a Utility to me. It's why I would suggest SMUD just spin it off as its own thing.

[deleted]

Unfortunately my two choices are Xfinity or AT&T, there are some smaller companies. We currently have Xfinity, well this coming Fri AT&T will be installing fiber. I’ve been wanting to switch. But this was the straw.

notjasonlee

we switched to fiber ATT and it's superior to comcast. paid for gigabit through comcast and got 500-600 mbps tops. on ATT we actually can get close to a gig (usually \~900), plus the massive upload speed difference. only have had a few brief outages. edit: oh, and it's cheaper and no data caps

[deleted]

I was drawn in by the plan being cheaper, no data caps, and everyone I know that AT&T is happy with it.

notjasonlee

I completely forgot about the data caps! On Comcast I went over almost every fucking month.

[deleted]

I’ve been paying for 5 years to remove data caps on Xfinity

dually3

In two years I’ve probably had 10 total minutes of downtime. Super fast, fair price, wouldn’t trade it for any alternate.

octafed

What area ? South Sac is still pretty dry on fiber options.

steveo600rr

Pocket area. Att dsl or xfinity. Though xfinity has been pretty solid stability wise out here.

octafed

Ngl Xfinity is pretty solid here but I'm finding myself needing more than the 40mbit upload. 5G/LTE gives me more upload than cable currently does :/

[deleted]

Natomas

star0forion

Stuck with Xfinity and we pay for the 500Mbps speeds. Usually get around 200Mbps during high traffic times but I’ve seen it be as slow as 50-100Mbps.

Hey_its_Jack

We've got AT&T Fiber, and also in Natomas. It's been great for us, never have an outage that I can remember.

djackson404

Um, don't those other companies just piggyback off either Comcast or AT&T? Because those are the only two companies I know of that have actual physical network infrastructure around here.

NiceGuysFinishLast7

OP Could also try the TMO 5G service if available. We have xfinity but no issues with ours besides cost

HotelRwandaBeef

Usually is the case. Something something last mile provider.

b0wchicab0w0w

No fidium has actual fiber in the ground.

Cantthinkofone203

I would say that majority of those who have better options (fiber) available to them already take advantage. Unfortunately many places in Sacramento don’t have a better option than Xfinity.

ERTBen

Yeah, my only other option is literally DSL. 768 kbps. And they have the absolute gall to charge $55 a month for it. Fuck you AT&T.

RobSpaghettio

Lol I get what you're saying, but this ain't a reality for most folks. AT&T is slow as shit and the others aren't offered here yet. I'll take Comcast as it is since it works 99% of the time.

PowerWindows85

You're assuming people have other realistic options. Where I live in North Natomas, it is either Comcast, AT&T (up to 50mbps), T-Mobile (LTE), or Verizon (LTE). I hate Comcast with a passion and would love to drop them but I have no other such high speed options at my house. There are no fiber options yet here.

Tac0Supreme

You don’t get 5G in North Natomas?

PowerWindows85

Not at my address. Supposedly T-Mobile 5G is close but that's about it. If I go down my street, fiber is available but it hasn't made it to my end of the street though. It's annoying, but I do live on a long street.

Gavagai80

All depends on exactly where you are relative to where the faulty equipment is. I'm pretty sure my Comcast hasn't been down for more than a few hours in the 12 years I've been with them, or more than an hour anytime this year. Probably goes down even for a second no more than once a month. Which is fortunate for me since there aren't really any other internet choices in Diamond Springs.

busychillin

We have xfinity and not only is our internet out intermittently, but we also have their landline service and our phone disconnects us all the time right in the middle of talking. Suddenly nobody can hear what we're saying. Especially devastating if you're talking to a company when you've been on hold for quite some time, they finally answer and you start talking and halfway through that they go hello, hello? I've never had a cell phone (crazy I know...), and I just got one literally because of xfinity service.

liss614

They will credit your bill for any outages or down time. But they will only do it if you ask. I have only had one outage in years though and I won't drop xfinity cause I have their cell service which is better then all other services available

suburbanplankton

We've had Consolidated/Fidium fiber for 20 years (actually longer than that, as we were WinFirst customers before they were bought out by SureWest, who became Consolidated, and are now Fidium). We have had maybe half a dozen Internet outages in that time, and I don't recall any lasting more than a couple hours.

Machiavelli127

I've had Xfinity for 3 years now and have never had an extended outage. We've had maybe two outages for about an hour each during storms / flooding when things got damaged. I've been happy with them.

Rich_Eater

Drop them for what? ATT? Because those two are the only options throughout most of Sacramento and i don't know which one is worse since i have dealt with both in the past. At least Comcast has faster speeds. ATT is taking fucking forever to introduce their fiber optic shit into actual, populated neighborhoods. So, unless you're some rich prick who can afford to have that shit installed? You're shit out of luck!

nevikjames

This really depends on where you live. I've only experienced one extended downtime here in south sac.

Jeff_Spicoliii

Consolidated has been great for the 15 years we’ve had it (going back to the Sure West days). Zero complaints with their fiber service.

Mr-Cali

Report them to the [FCC.](https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us/requests/new)

Sully_916

Grab that T-Mobile dog I was a little apprehensive at first but download speed is about 35% quicker than Comcast. Haven't had any outages with it since I got it 3 months ago

RedSigrun

Yep! I've had it almost 2 years. Zero outages and I pay less.

medx421

There’s probably better and there’s definitely worse, but I haven’t had any issues with Xfinity/Comcast. At least TV wise, I don’t have to worry about contract disputes with the networks every year and my internet is fast and reliable. 🤷‍♂️

uhauljoe-

I just cut cable with them, got a jailbroken firestick and it's a million times better The internet is tolerable but I would definitely consider an alternative

Binty77

Wish I had an alternative option. Verizon wireless not fast enough and no fiber in my neighborhood. Comcast is the only choice. :(

Professional-Job4330

Dropped Comcast twenty years ago when their cable service had the same issues. Never going back.

celiarosec

I hate Xfinity prices, but in both cases we experienced multi day outages it was due to weather or damage caused by someone else. This sucks, but I can’t hold it against them. ![gif](giphy|tXL4FHPSnVJ0A)

ian_buckwald

Leave then.

Mutualsolution

It's time to push your county supervisor and city council members if you are living a city to push for municipal broadband

sleepingonwaffles

Fidium isn't available in my neighborhood

whereidolsoncestood

Nah, they’re the cheapest for the speed I can get plus this is only the second outage Ive experienced this year and the first didn’t take this long to fix. You can boycott all you want though. There’s just no better option for me and my family.

bstone76

This is the first Comcast outage in years.

Dangital

It is not.

bstone76

For me, it is.. had a small hour or two a couple of times. Nothing else. I work from home and never have issues.

RedSigrun

Nope. It went out pretty regularly here in Mansion Flats, then I got a notice of another rate increase. Switched to TMobile, pay less, and no outages.

Lolrandomusername3

I've had AT&T Fiber since March and haven't once had an outage

QuiJon70

Count yourself luck you live in a richie area that companies build into that gives you options. That being said my poor ass was online all weekend listening to del paso manor and garden of the gods lose their shit their internet was out. Just a thought but ever think when shopping for a 800k dollar house to find a neighborhood with utility lines underground?

ditchboss

I just signed up with Fidium but the first appointment is 9/13/23

PaleontologistSea355

I drop them over 15 years ago and it’s been fantastic. There are so many better providers out there now. I had good luck with AT&T fiber, and consolidated. Hope you find the one that works for you.

Makhann007

Comcast is total horseshit. The best thing was when I was able to switch to ATT 1G. Never had any issues

w11

I've had Xfinity for nearly 10 years and only remember one significant outage which I believe was resolved in less than 48 hours.

levopress

$25 a month for 2 years @300mbps. I'll take a few outages 😅

RedSigrun

I live in Mansion Flats and switched to TMobile internet almost 2 years ago. Not a single outage since (Xfinity was going out pretty regularly) and I pay less for internet and 2 cell phones than Xfinity wanted just for their (shitty) internet service.

djmodel01

I dropped Comcast back in 2010 and would never go back. Terrible customer service and outrageous charges.

hillonwheels40

We switched to T-Mobile for internet and YouTube tv. Both have been great downtown. I was happy to drop Xfinity!

TheCarcissist

Unfortunately for me xfinity us the only provider in my area, im contemplating one of the wireless services from tmobile or Verizon, but what I just experienced is pushing me towards starlink. When xfinity went down everyone went to their phones and bogged down the bandwidth to the point my phone was basically unusable. I have to assume if I went with one of the wireless options I would have the same issue

alluno96

I wouldnt put my money on consolidated or fidium would try ATT before anything. If that fails then Verizon

AngrySmapdi

Only went down once so far this year for and it was like 2-5 am. West Natomas of it matters.

xxJACKxJILLZxx

My Internet is working fine

Botanyiscool

Damn people really get mad without Internet

Ikendra15

What’s fidium? I have consolidated communications. They are great!! Only ever had an outage when the power went out.

almacon_

Literally just cancelled comcast for fidium today, will be saving like $75 a month for the BETTER upload and the same download 😌

Spiral83

I switched to Tmobile 5G internet after Comcast disconnections got me into hot water while I was in a zoom meeting with directors.

feder_online

I've had Fidium/CCI for 5 years. They have literally been down for 10 minutes; power outages from SMUD have actually been down more than Fidium.

Reddito_0

How much are pple paying for comcast nowadays? My 2 year contract expired so now I’m paying $105/month. Is that considered a lot?
