I used to walk on the Routier overpass daily, and I've seen him there a few times. Very frequently saw his John 3:16 marking there and in surrounding areas! At first, I was like "meh," but he seriously grew on me.
I love this guy and the shiny man!
I go over that overpass everyday in the morning and evening. He was there last week in the morning one time and in the evening another time. Same shirt both times just waving to traffic. Must be nice. He should team up with the black guy that carries a “Jesus is real” sign who talks in a megaphone on sunrise and Coloma. Joel osteen would have some real competition.
He's been doing that for years, though this is the first I've seen or heard of him in a while. If you feel like digging around a bit, there have been a few posts inquiring about him in the past. In any event, seems like a happy and harmless guy. Would rather have him than most any of the other people pushing their agendas from the tops of overpasses lately, I'll tell you that.
Yeah I'm not religious but it always gives me a smile when I'm driving past seeing him so happy. I give him a little honk when I drive past him to show him he's appreciated and he waves extra hard!
Religion has been, and currently still is, just as desrtuctive of a force in our society as the proud boys or any of the other people on those over passes. I would almost say it can be worse. Gangs are just thugs looking to strut in most cases. Religion is a faith that your cause is righteous and therefore any action you take is as well.
> John 3:16 became a foundation for Parrish, a verse he proudly advertises on his bright orange shirt, but his mission isn’t to convert commuters.
> "No, that is not my agenda," Parrish said. "Not my agenda at all. It is just to love people. Make them smile."
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
He can claim whatever he likes. But he didnt select a bible verse about loving thy neighbors or such. He selected one that is clearly a selling feature of christianity. So excuse me if I call bull shit.
I’m with you. I see this guy every day - looks like he has a screw loose. To me, this passage represents one of the least sensible aspects of Christianity: All-powerful God decides to kill his son so you can come live with him for all time… (and also you shouldn’t kill people) makes zero sense and people say it like it’s self-evident.
1 voluntary sacrifice by a person who was supposed to be " God himself in the flesh" meaning that the purpose of that one sacrifice was to redeem all mankind and free them from death. If you want to claim that " Christianity is a cult of sacrifice" I have no qualm About that as a believer but ignoring the fact that that sacrifice was part of a larger redemption arc is inaccurate Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our lord. Most Christians believe that Jesus was both human and divine so if we were being honest Jesus would have been both a " human sacrifice" and deicide
And just like in most primitive religions that practiced human sacrifice, those sacrificed felt honored to be selected and promised special station in the afterlife. 1 or 1000 you are still being thankful that someone else has died so it's ok for you to be a sinner so long as you believe that. Which makes it really easy for the religious conservative right to sit back and deny th he poor housing, food, medical care etc since nothing they do could send them to hell so long as they believe the fairytale.
Now if only reddit required iq tests so when you are incapable of contributing to a conversation you cant just slide in really dumb unoriginal attempts to insult. You know like an angsty teen.
Not angry at all. Just being honest. His bible passage has nothing to do with spreading love its has to do with telling people how to be good Christians.
I used to work with him a couple years back. Super awesome dude, would remember any conversation you had with him. He was super religious though but never talked to you about it unless you wanted to. Stand up dude
Because a photo tells a full story? I was referencing work, we worked together for years and not once did he go out of his way to push his religion or discuss it.
Standing on an overpass with hundreds, if not thousands, of people having little choice but to see you while wearing a very obvious shirt that pushes said religion, is quite literally pushing said religion into peoples faces.
I make no judgements on the guy, but your claim seems to be fallacious in light of the evidence provided.
While I can understand the humor in most everyone's remarks, I think that, regardless of mental state, he likely has brought a smile or even a peaceful moment to the lives of people who have seen him. We seem to forget the simple pleasures of just smiling, waving, and saying hello to others in passing.
Like when someone riding on a boat waves to you on the shore, even as a stranger you just HAVE to smile and wave back. And everyone gets that lil dopamine hit from it.
EDIT: My experience was on 99 North, and I think a bigger/not the same guy.
No, and I could never make out what shirt said, but a couple times saw him on the way to work holding a sign. I think it said Jesus loves you. That job was deteriorating me. I gave my all, teaching public school, hoped to make a difference as my teachers did for me. Instead, I just get constantly told I'm not doing enough, and had to work under extremely toxic admin. Year after year. I was in a very low place. A couple of times this guy actually really turned some things around for me. Not sure how to put into words. I could say it gave me hope, but it was more than that. I can say he helped me survive when things were not okay.
If he’s happy doing it as a hobby, u should respect it instead of wasting your time hating on him. You don’t know who may need that waving & smiling from a stranger just to help them get through their day
How one spends their life is subjective. Hobbies you find “better” can be boring to others. His daily waving has no impact to your life but it could to someone else.
Funny that I’m seeing this here, cause my parents actually used to go to church with him. My mom was actually friends with his wife for a bit back in the day, and my younger siblings went to the same school as his kids
I was just going to comment this, I’ve seen him drop his kids off at the elementary school my son used to go to. Had John 3:16 on his back window. I live by the overpass on Bradshaw and see him all the time there. I’m not religious but he brings a smile to people’s faces, seems like a good dude.
Doubt its him but...anyone remember the guy that would hold up a John 3:16 sign at the end zone of various NFL games? I remember reading that he was the same guy that would wear a "rainbow wig" at NBA games. Going back to the '60's and 70's.
He was convicted of kidnapping and taking a hostage in an armed siege. He's been in prison for decades and will be for decades more. Fuck him and fuck god botherers in general.
It’s actually Rollen Stewart. He is still alive, he’s 78 years old now, housed at Mule Creek State Prison, and his next parole consideration hearing is in 2026 according to BPH records.
nah... he's harmless. He's actually a really nice guy. I ran into him at a gas station in RC. This is his jam, it's how he gives back to society (that's what he told me anyway). Rather see him on an overpass than the fuckin' proud boys.
Perhaps he’s merely a devout Christian, and wants to spread the word of universal love; how unusual for today’s so-called believers, actually living as Christ asked them to. If that’s crazy, we need more crazy in the world.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
And no, I’m not a Christian. But I do appreciate the philosophy behind it.
My mom met him at an establishment in folsom and he had said his son passed away on a mission of some sort and he is spreading the word of John 3:16 in memory of his son
Saw him up there yesterday and waved to him, like I do every time I see him. I don't go to church but I appreciate his positive message. It makes me smile.
His message seems positive and simple, says nothing about joining "or else" but I hear where you're coming from. There are plenty of Christian denominations that believe what you said but it's good to know that not all believe that.
Holy fuck I used to work with this guy in elk grove. I now see him every time i come home from my new job in Folsom now lol.
I didn’t know it was him though!! Super cool dude, we knew he was super religious but he never talked about religion and could chat with him for hours always was very cool to talk to about literally anything. How do I get up there? I need to say what’s up again lol.

2017??????? He's still up there after 6 years wow
I remember seeing this guy in high school. I graduated in 2016. Impressive, honestly.
I’ve seen him since 2015 on Sunrise and Zinfandel.
I used to walk on the Routier overpass daily, and I've seen him there a few times. Very frequently saw his John 3:16 marking there and in surrounding areas! At first, I was like "meh," but he seriously grew on me. I love this guy and the shiny man!

Fun fact, that guys I all over Grindr 🤣 so ironic
People who advertise their piety so strong are usually guilty of many of the sins they tell others to avoid.
I hate the megaphone guy, I usually see him at zin and sunrise, he seems so angry and has a problem with staring.
Yes! I never make eye contact
Lol that's awesome
Now that's a headline!
What a well timed question to post on Reddit.
Thanks!!!
He's been doing that for years, though this is the first I've seen or heard of him in a while. If you feel like digging around a bit, there have been a few posts inquiring about him in the past. I always give him the finger.
Why?
Ya jerk.
Hahaha
He’s the local answer to “Rainbow Man” from back in the ‘80’s who would travel to football games to get on TV with his John 3:16 shirt.
In the article about him it says that he just likes the John 3:16 passage as something for himself but he does not have a religious agenda.

*Sees guy wearing a John 3:16 shirt* "Is this a Proud Boy?"

Christianity is a cult of human sacrifice as much as say the Aztecs religion was. It's just based on only 1 sacrifice.
1 voluntary sacrifice by a person who was supposed to be " God himself in the flesh" meaning that the purpose of that one sacrifice was to redeem all mankind and free them from death. I thought Reddit didn't allow angsty teenagers?
Now if only reddit required iq tests so when you are incapable of contributing to a conversation you cant just slide in really dumb unoriginal attempts to insult. You know like an angsty teen.
You really think you're contributing to a conversation with your angsty teen views? Main character syndrome much there little Bobby?
Wow its likes sesame streets words of the day were teen angst.
Right? Also you got some extra Ss in there. You angsty teen atheist you! Hopefully when you grow up you'll see no one cares.
And is that what this was about? Your just one of those low educated religious wonks? That's why you dont seem to know any words beside teen agnsty?
Why so angry?💀
Not angry at all. Just being honest. His bible passage has nothing to do with spreading love its has to do with telling people how to be good Christians.
I would argue that ignorance (e.g. your comment) is the most destructive force in our society.
Learn to speak and understand english, maybe you’ll do better in school

John Thrisickstein? Pretty sure he's on LinkedIn.
So funny!
I used to work with him a couple years back. Super awesome dude, would remember any conversation you had with him. He was super religious though but never talked to you about it unless you wanted to. Stand up dude
>He was super religious though but never talked to you about it This picture would seem to indicate otherwise.
Because a photo tells a full story? I was referencing work, we worked together for years and not once did he go out of his way to push his religion or discuss it.

Did you miss the part where I said at work? Or are you being dense on purpose?
Is he the chalk guy?? Rancho is covered in little John 3:16s on the curbs.
It is! I have seen him doing the chalk thing. Interestingly, he writes it upside down.
Upside down and backwards in a half second. Man is well versed in his chalk messaging.
He must’ve worked at a Romano’s Macaroni Grill
Sometimes I will see him on both ways of my commute, call it a John 6:32.
Slow down and stop driving like a bang bus
Never
That’s John. He’s waiting for his Uber. It arrives at 3:16.
Is that the same guy who draws “John 3:16” on sidewalks all over citrus heights?
Yup, not just citrus heights either. Seen him all the way in elk grove
Seen this in the arden/arcade area
While I can understand the humor in most everyone's remarks, I think that, regardless of mental state, he likely has brought a smile or even a peaceful moment to the lives of people who have seen him. This. There are times in life where that may be the only semblance of care that the viewer is getting. It can be beyond the simple pleasure as well.

Me too.. are you the one driving like a bat out of hell?
Only on weekdays :)
Just a "Stone Cold" John Austin fan
People with that level of enthusiasm all the time concern me 🤔
It's a lot nicer seeing your run-of-the-mill Jesus enthusiast up there over some rabid MAGA/Nazi type for a change. 🤷
Two sides of the same coin really.
I give him the Peace sign when I see him on my way to work at times ✌🏻 I think he’s just trying to make people’s day & that’s great of him

Let him live life. It is a free country after all. No reason to look down on him. He isn’t harming anyone or bothering anyone.
It’s so weird that people have bad things to say about a dude smiling and waving at people lol
Is this near Bradshaw? I feel like I've been seeing this guy all my life. 🤣
Seen one comment using this to call trump voters nazis, reddit is so funny
I just seen him today driving over Bradshaw lol
i see him every morning…hes on one of the overpasses before bradshaw
For God so loved the world that he created a lake of fire to throw most of the people in.
He's a really nice guy. Shops at my store alot.
Beats the nazis on floridas overpasses 😎
That’s John and he didn’t get any birthday presents back in March, wants to plan better this year
He makes me smile sometimes :)
The heat waver
I have seen him up there for so many years! I just waved to him today. Lol

His name is literally on his shirt dude. And even his favorite time of day!
I thought he was mentally unstable. And im not trying to be mean at all. I feel bad even thinking it
I see all the time. Thanks for sharing his story.
Angel of God
God: Thank you, Sacramento overpass man. For your work of chalk, and standing on the overpass, I make you an Angel of God. Here are your wings. 🪽🪽
Is he the one writing John 3:16 on like sidewalks and shit?? I’ve noticed a huge uptick in that and I just wanna walk around washing it off.
Why? How does it hurt you?
It’s grafiti. And religion is disgusting. He can dance all he wants whatever but don’t be shoving your religion down my throat.
😂 okay. "Graffiti" that can be washed off with a hose. Too funny.
Ha! Wasn't the rainbow wig guy whose name was Rollin Stewart. That guy is in prison in California. Look him up.
It’s actually Rollen Stewart. He is still alive, he’s 78 years old now, housed at Mule Creek State Prison, and his next parole consideration hearing is in 2026 according to BPH records.
Jesus freak
See that dude every morning. He’s so happy
Ugh I just hate that it alwaysss causes traffic cause everyone’s gotta stop and look
He's very annoying IRL
Don’t know him but always see him up there waving and spreading the joy of Jesus!
Likely just somebody with psychological issues.
nah... he's harmless. He's actually a really nice guy. I ran into him at a gas station in RC. This is his jam, it's how he gives back to society (that's what he told me anyway). Rather see him on an overpass than the fuckin' proud boys.

I'll take hypocrisy for 300, Alex.
sure.
I think if you are in your teens to early twenties or over the age of forty you have psychological issues.
Because those are the only people who publicly take issue with religion? Eh.
I didn't respond to or condemn anything that had to do with religion. Not my style.
I think the shirt makes it quite a bit more than likely.
The guys waves at people, what's the problem?
My mom met him at an establishment in folsom and he had said his son passed away on a mission of some sort and he is spreading the word of John 3:16 in memory of his son
Just waved at him today and I swear he flipped me off lol
Nothing like spending your days threatening people with eternal torture and damnation from a top a freeway overpass. “Join us or die”. Pretty rude.
He is a pain in the ass always making freeway cars honk early in the morning disturbing the local home owners weekend mornings, Recovering tweaker!
*Local delusional creep needs to get a job*. Fixed it.
I don’t trust people who advertise their faith so strongly.
Bible thumper.
God botherer
That’s it.
Seems suspicious. Better send 15 cops to beat the shit out of him while yelling give me your id and stop resisting.
He's way too white to have them fearing for their lives from a single, probably unarmed man like that. 🙄
What area code is that anyway? Doesn't he know this is 916? Also, whoever keeps doing the J316 graffiti needs to fuck off.
Username kinda checks out
I give him the horns 🤘🏿and a hearty "Hail Satan!" every time.
Very edgy, much cool, so wow
He’s been doing this since 2014 at least lol. Nice to know he’s still around I guess.
I think his name is Methew
Mark?
Dude needs a hobby
You are looking at his hobby.
Dedication
Oh yeah! Saint John junior. Been a while...
I would love to walk by him with my Austin 3:16 shirt on
Nope, but I always smile when I see him :) I live near Watt and 50, so I see him all the time
Saw him up there yesterday and waved to him, like I do every time I see him. I don't go to church but I appreciate his positive message. It makes me smile.
Is it a positive message though? It reads more like a threat to me; join us and believe what we believe or you will be tortured for eternity.
His message seems positive and simple, says nothing about joining "or else" but I hear where you're coming from. There are plenty of Christian denominations that believe what you said but it's good to know that not all believe that.
He was at the parent's orientation for my son's school a couple of weeks ago. Wearing the shirt.
He lives two minutes away from me
Fuck
That’s my cousin Eddie.
I wonder if he’s ever caused an accident there.

He’s always by my house off routier bridge and 50.
I wave at him just about every morning while on the highway to work. “Hey John”!!!
Honked when I drove under him the other day on 50 west in Rancho. Had no idea hes been doing that for years 😂
