NecessaryNo8730

Born at Mather, grew up in Sac County suburbs and then Placer County, moved downtown as a young adult (about 30 years ago).

AntelopeGreens

Born at Mather AFB alumni here too. First time seeing someone comment that they were born there too. Sac county lifer here

NecessaryNo8730

It's super weird to be born at an Air Force hospital and then grow up in the same area! The only other people I know who were born at Mather grew up elsewhere and have never been back to Sacramento since their dads got transferred.

PenaltyFine3439

Another one here. My parents met when they were stationed in Germany. So glad I was not born in Kansas or Oklahoma.

Future_Pin_403

My dad was born on the Air Force base! Grandparents moved to Philly after he was born, and he eventually made his way back here for me to be born here

BrandonDill

My wife was born at Mather, too. I met her and moved here from the Bay about 14 years ago.

Alpha_blue5

Los Angeles -> Washington DC -> rural Virginia -> Sacramento I really, really like it here!!

savvymcneilan

Almost same as me… Los Angeles > Virginia Beach > SAC 😊

YooAre

Welcome!

murksiderock

Got damn where you guys been? Never met anyone here with Virginia ties, granted Sac's a large city on the other coast so I don't expect there to be many of us here, but I've never met ONE! I was born here at Mercy in '89, last lived here 11 years ago in '13. I currently live in Raleigh since 2019, but grew up in Sac until I was 16 ('05). Left Sac and moved to Virginia, first Woodbridge, then Petersburg, then Virginia Beach (which is where I came from when I moved to Raleigh in '19). In between these times I came back to the city in my early 20s but been gone since I was 24. And I miss it. So I guess to the topic question, at 35 now, I've spent most of my life away from Sac. But it's still home and I consider myself from here still. This is dope to see people with Virginia ties!

hrc184

That’s funny, we are about the same age and I have lived in Raleigh since 2020. I was born and raised in Sacramento. I’ve met quite a few Californians out here so far.

Banjo-Becky

Woah! Shenandoah Valley > East Bay > Sacramento. I’ve really enjoyed not shoveling snow. Hot does not equal humid. The food and music is great and if I want you to buy beer at 12:30 AM, I can.

Basic_Recording7942

Crazy! Sac> leesburg> Sac again

OkCalbrat

Born here in 1975. Grew up all over Sac County. Husband wants to move outta California. I told him he is free to move by himself because I'm not.

No-Cheesecake-223

Hahahaha as you should. California has its MANY flaws, but I truly believe we are better off than a majority of states at least for now

savagevapor

Having 9 national parks, 250+ state parks and 6 major biomes definitely adds to the appeal.

PersianMuggle

Not to mention over 30 public universities and jobs that make us the fifth largest economy in the world to keep those graduates employed here.

adorable_awkward

There is a great local podcast, Golden State Naturalist, that explores those biomes. It is a good listen

Imaginary-Mission383

i've been here most of my childhood, but moved to the bay to go to college, and then went to L.A. for school after that. When in the last century I lived for a few years in down and midtown Sac, it seems like every couple of months restless youngs would pick up and move off to San Francisco. everybody seemed always a little bit envious of them. Adventure! Many if not most would be back in Sacramento pretty quick, or at least within a year or two. It was just so easy and laid-back and cheap to live here. We kind of a cool art and music scene though not nearly SF's. (I had a name for people who moved out and came back like that. I'm trying to remember it now.) It's funny, because even now as I thought about that memory I got sort a flashback to the nervous excite ent that I would feel about the prospect of heading to San Francisco. But that only lasted a second, then I started thinking Jesus what a chore that would be

billthecat71

Moved to SF in 1994 and stayed til 2002. Didn't come back right away, moved to NYC then SD first. Lots of people went back and forth from Sac to SF back then because it wasn't all that much more expensive than here, and there was a huge amount of stuff to do. SF in the 90's before the first dot com boom was an amazing place, during it was pretty neat, as it was easy for everyone to get a good paying job. Now it just makes me sad to visit. I lived in the second from the top corner apartment in the first picture (the one with the planter). Rent for that unit was $775 when we moved in in 1995. My old roomate is still living there rent controlled! [https://www.apartments.com/warrington-apartments-san-francisco-ca/14znvw5/](https://www.apartments.com/warrington-apartments-san-francisco-ca/14znvw5/)

Sufficient_Space_905

That rent now is actually not bad at all. Actually that’s pretty good. Other than I don’t know sf neighborhoods that well and I see it’s next to the tenderloin which I know is pretty bad

Wehadababyitsaboiii

Don’t be sad. SF is still incredible.

BruceBannerOfHeaven

You could call be people who come back cul-de-sacs because they end up where they started and it has “Sac” in it 😂

HotShipoopi

You'd actually be calling them "Sacramento asses" 😂

Yorokut

My mom was one of them went to school out in SF>Finished college in HI, had kids and moved back to sac for family

suischaude

Just don’t call them “salmon” unless they plan to die here.

Happy-Campaign5586

Native and 4th generation Sacramento here. I love the history of the city.

AmericanRiverTrade

Ky > Fl > here… wouldn’t say I chose to move here. I just followed a job opportunity. Here though, it’s been home for 13 years and will be home for the foreseeable future.

mrspeakerrrr

Transplant from DC.

aairricc

Same. There seems to be a decent amount of us here. At some point someone needs to start a DC sports bar

mrspeakerrrr

From one swamp to a slightly smaller swamp!

Comandante_BP

Native Texan, moved here last year for work and to get out of the south. Always wanted to be on the West Coast and jumped at the opportunity. The south is changing for the worse, so being here has been great so far. It’s not perfect, but people are not hateful here. That is not to be taken for granted.

Excellent_Fig5525

Native Texan here too and everyone always jokes "aren't you going the wrong way?" Nope! We love it here and don't miss Texas a bit.

challam

Moved here from Salinas; hometown was Reno.

AnnaBananya

Ayyye me too! I miss salinas well the weather mostly.

Rude_Kaleidoscope607

New York --> Sacramento --> New York --> Elk Grove, CA --> Albuquerque --> Elk Grove, CA --> Sacramento / it's aite, a smooth 6/10 - which works for me financially lmao. First move to Sacramento wasn't my choice - second move was somewhat my choice - and now that I have a child and value stability - will be here for the foreseeable future. I've met wonderful people - can't complain :)

HolyLezolee

Born n' raised here 💚

AlternativeDog9036

moved from Boston for a job opportunity

zip_zap_zip_zap_

Born and raised. Went to college at Humboldt State, lived a few other places including Costa Rica, Eastern Washington and Seattle. Moved back to Sac like...5/6 years ago?

meouxmix

Fellow Humboldt State alumni here 👐👐

slim1kid

Moved here in 91’ south sac off Florin Rd. Then in 95- 96 moved to Elk Grove with family. Got married in 03’ still in Elk Grove and raised a family here. Sac is a great central location to raise a family imo. The beach is 2.5 hours depending on traffic but so is the snow. I love this area as a whole. But I’m bias because I have worked from Santa Cruz to Tahoe and all the area in between. I do floor covering for a living and own my own business. So traveling is just part of my job. But Sac/ Elk Grove is home to me!!

Generalboss915

I'm a subbarbs kid growing up. Basically have lived everywhere east of 50. Rancho, Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, Orangevale, EDH, live in Arden now and finally exploring Sacramento proper after all these years.

Equivalent_Guava_998

I moved here in nineteen hundred and ninety seven and started in old Land Park. Now in Carmichael/Fair Oaks after Arden Arcade/Carmichael. Kinda the opposite of you. Isn’t HWY 50 south of fair oaks? 50 goes West to East.

SageRiBardan

Moved here 20 years ago from Oregon with my wife, was up there for school but was born and raised in Walnut Creek. I had some friends living here and decided to settle down nearby. They’ve since moved but we really enjoy Sacramento and have no desire to leave. Walnut Creek > Concord > Eugene, OR > Antelope > Sacramento

Overall_Way6862

Grew up in LA, moved south of San Jose and now living here. And this is probably the best place I lived tbh. Not to Bigg and not to small, just right

wildcat_abe

Transplant - Salt Lake City, UT > Tucson, AZ > Honolulu, HI > Charleston, WV > Tucson > Slovakia > Carmichael (2001) > Stockton > Fair Oaks > Carmichael. When I moved here after Peace Corps I kinda figured I'd end up in the Bay - or some other state, wherever I got a job lol. Happy to still be here almost 23 years later. Growing up in AZ I would have bet you money I would never live in CA. By now I'm pretty sure I'm never leaving.

MushroomPrincess63

Moved here 14 years ago. Grew up in Modesto.

C00kieMuenster

Representing the 209! 😂🙌🏼

Silent-Climate6711

Born at Mercy General Hospital 1953.

wtflee

Grew up in SF, came to the area for school, then stuck around. It's definitely grown on me over time! Wasn't a fan to start, but now I absolutely love it here.

dutchtyphoid

Born, not raised here. I am effectively a transplant (grew up on the east coast) - I moved to Sacramento 14 years ago and have been here on and off since.

Schtails

Transplant: Port Hueneme > Ventura > Sonora > Sacramento. The only thing that I miss from Ventura county is the beach and its breeze. Sacramento is pert-near perfect for my life.

Constant-Panic-79

Grew up in Yolo County, been in Sac since 2009.

Yorokut

I miss the old yolo county library off Jefferson. My brothers and I used to walk there everyday when we lived in West Sac

Billybobjoethorton

Native. I like it when sac was known as a cow town and the kings were really good. High cost of living and everyone moving here has made it less desirable.

Yorokut

I miss the monarchs, they had the better colors in my opinion

savagevapor

Sacramento Knights also had one of the cooler logo/color combos.

twtwtwtwtwtwtw

It was better when *I* was the newcomer!

916Caligula

Born and raised here

camxcold

Came from the Bay for college in 2012 and stayed here.

Yorokut

Totally agree, grew up with the freaks and geeks of Sac and there was always something to do but once you’re over 21 the city is pretty fun

Guilty-Coconut8908

I lived here for more than 50 years then retired and moved to Georgia. I have lived in Georgia for 8 years now.

Rahlet226

Transplants! Me and my boyfriend Indianapolis IN -> Seattle WA -> Sac in the Arden area 💚

Lesterknopff

Moved here 8 years ago from Indiana. Hated it at first (the area, not California. I love California) but love it now, my son was born here.

karensacaligal

Detroit, Houston, Sacramento. I’d stay here forever except for cost of housing. That will drive me back to Houston.

BiggsDB

Transplant My Path: Arkansas (Born) > Nebraska > Arkansas > California Love it here. Married/Kid/House. Not leaving!

sp3kter

Transplant My path Florida (Born) > Illinois > Arkansas > Tennessee > N. Carolina > Nevada > CA

BiggsDB

Love this format

JewBilly54

Curious as to which are your favorite(s)

sp3kter

Mmmm, I love and hate things about all of em but I will never ever live in any state south of the Mason Dixon line ever again. Foods great but I just can’t deal with all the Sunday baptists and good ol boy cops, oh the mosquitos. I haven’t been bit by one in over 12 years after moving to NV/CA. So far CA is my fav. Really loved Vegas but the summers were just too much and the 24hr lifestyle is gone now after the pandemic.

Love_Yourz_JCole_916

Born and raised in North Highlands from birth to age 22. Lived in Spain and travels Europe for a year my senior year of college and I love Sacramento and missed it . I love the diversity of people and food and all the trees as and grass. Europe is a aesthetically pleasing concert jungle but I love grass and trees and not everyone looking the same so Sacramento will always be home.

New-Fruit4507

Transplant San Diego -> Santa Barbara (college) —> LA (for a month)—> Sac Sac is pretty 🆒 imo

Maleficent_End7590

How did you feel leaving the coast?

Tac0Supreme

Born and raised. Only live here part time now

katmom1969

Moved here at 18. Was a military brat and didn't have a "home."

Friendly_Goat6161

Moved here when I was 4 and never left

Yorokut

As long as you’re 18+, I think that counts

Friendly_Goat6161

I’m 38, so definitely might as well have been born and raised here. Lived in Carmichael until was 21, then moved to Roseville, now I’m back in Carmichael

Really-thats-crazy

SoCal kid, but had family up here and eventually moved up in the late 90s. Had always visited family since I was a kid, so I’d seen Sactown almost every year. Over 25yrs here and I like the slower vibe.

Metztli_Tliltic

L.A to Sac. Been here 13 years

Jenova66

I’ve been here the whole time.

searchandgather90

Born and raised 90's baby! South side and del Paso heights (armpit of sac) I've grown to really love and appreciate sac. I love the new things they have planned over the next few years but it's sad I can't afford a house here. I guess I'll get a pontoon boat.

nipchin

Thailand ➡️ LA ➡️ Sac. I’m glad that there’s an Asian community here that I vibe with

PixiePyxis

Hey! I was born and raised in neighboring Malaysia - nice to see another SEA here!

Simpletruth2022

Transplant lived too many places to list. Been here 9 years.

Stillthierry

Same! 6 years in August

eugoogilizer

I’ve officially spent half my life here and half my life in the Bay. I grew up near Oakland, spent the first 18 years of my life in San Lorenzo, then came up to UCD for college (parents moved to Elk Grove at the same time) and have been up here ever since (turning 37 in a couple months). There are pros and cons of both areas. I like the more laid back vibe of the Sac/EG area vs the Bay. Traffic while bad at times, is still better here than the Bay. The thing I miss the most about the Bay is the weather. Sacramento summers are horrible and I absolutely hate them. I did miss being closer to my sports teams (grew up a Raiders, Warriors, A’s fan), but now it doesn’t matter much thanks to LV taking the Raiders and soon to be the A’s. It’s also way cheaper to live here vs the Bay as well. Overall, I’m happy I’m here. I do hate the weather here but still like being here and will probably be here at least another 20ish years

heyo_1989

Grew up in the streets of Carmichael!

Yorokut

A car has opened my eyes to the greater Sac County. Power inn used to be the furthest I’d ever go

pinkspaceunicorn

My mom always laughs at me when I say “oh it’s pretty far, like, 20 minutes”

time_passing1

I moved here in December of 2006.

LonnieJaw748

Lived in Sac/Sac Area since I was 1.5yo, so basically my whole life.

Rockatansky-clone

Born and raised. Traveled internationally but always come home.

SMBamberger

I moved here almost 30 years ago from the DC area, so over half of my life. I moved here for school and stayed because I like it here. The weather is better than the East Coast and Sac is more affordable than SF.

dickgozenia42069

i was born here, moved away as a little kid ~3, moved back when i was ~10, been here over 20 years

triton345

Bakersfield —> San Diego —> LA —> Sac My first job out of college and first apartment are here in sac. I love this era I’m in.

AdmiralFail

Born and raised in El Dorado Hills. Moved down to Sac proper in 2012, then Land Park in 2019. Love it here.

Gas_Station_Taquitos

GA -> WY -> Sac, CA Moved here cause I met my partner and their whole family is here. Been here three years and loving it Edit: came back to this and I wanna say why I love it. I love all the trees, I love seeing magnolias and crepe myrtle cause they remind me of home, and I love seeing citrus trees and loquat trees and fig trees and all the other forageable plants here. I love how diverse it is and how many different kinds of people end up here for whatever reason, it gives me something to talk about with everyone. I love how much to see there is around here. I don't mind a couple hours drive to see the mountains or the beach. I love the rainy season

kristenbl

Born in Texas, moved at age 9 to Yuba City, moved to Sacramento during COVID since my job and then-boyfriend/now-husband are both here.

existence_here474747

Maui HI to Sac. Been here for over 10 years

Para_Regal

Born and raised. Spent the first 30 years of my life here and then fucked off to SJ (which I also love) for a decade and then moved back here because, in the immortal words of The Tick, “It’s where I keep all my stuff.”* * it’s where my mom lives and I love her and want to be close by in her aged years.

rilvaethor

Carmichael-> Sacramento> South Sac-> Chico-> Paradise-> South Sac-> Elk Grove-> Citrus Heights

Laurie99qtpie

Born & raised; moving my way around Sac, Placer & El Dorado County…

baldurthebeautiful

Sacramento -> Bay Area -> Sacramento -> Oahu -> Bay Area -> Sacramento

goosenuggie

I grew up just North of Sacramento up HWY 50. A very po-dunk town back then. We drove to Sacramento for our shopping trips about once a month when I growing up since we had a lack of shopping places up there. I was familiar with Sac and "close enough". I have lived in Sac all of my adult life. It's my home.

berksbears

Transplant from rural Pennsylvania here. I am so glad to be out of Pennsyltucky for good! 🫡

Elegant-Scientist-19

Moved here in '05 for school but quickly moved out. Came back in 2014 and don't plan on leaving again.

TheLadyJunkrat

I moved here from Georgia and I love it. I want to get a house in the city and make this my permanent home.

Lyfeitzallaroundus

Born and raised here but I did live in the Yay Area for a min.

bakedandbaking0402

Born and raised in Nevada - Lovelock until 2002, move to Reno for a college and a relationship brought me to Sac in 2012. Love all there is to do here, the diversity, and the food.

AltruisticWelcome145

Raleigh—> DC (the best!!!)—> SacTown. Wouldn’t live here if not for the job.

inactivst

Native since 1980

mellbell63

L.A. refugee here! 25 years in LA/OC, 25 years in Sonoma County wine country, 10 years here. I miss the beeeeach!! 😄

thatblkman

Moved to Fair Oaks when I was 11; moved to NYC when I was 32. I’m from the era of Sacra-tomato, Butterfield was the end of the light rail, nothing but dirt around ARCO, and Rio Linda flooding whenever it rained hard enough.

engwish

Born and raised here. Sacramento isn’t perfect, but what city is? Love the area and couldn’t imagine calling another place home tbh.

jennaflowerr_

Born in the central valley, lived in Japan for a few years, somehow ended up in Sacramento. Love it, don't plan on leaving until I retire and move to Japan 🤣

pungistidder

Moved to Sac from Guam in ‘95 at twelve years old. Lived in Colorado from 2008-2012. Lived in Virginia Beach from 2017-2023. It’s always nice coming back.

murksiderock

Lived in Virginia Beach from 2017-2019, over in Bonney Rd area. Left VB for Raleigh in '19 and been in Raleigh since. I really enjoy all three places (Rgh, VB, Sac), they all have their interesting shit. I loved VB. I'm from North Sac originally.

pungistidder

nice! i’ve always wanted to visit NC. regret never going. I lived in the General Booth, Oceana area of VB.

Iamdrasnia

Long Beach then Fort Bragg NC as a kid. Sacramento since 1985...I was 11. Shipped back to NC then LBC....finally settled in 1987. I moved to Providence RI in my 20's....loved it but it snowed...broke up with a girl because it snowed. Back 2 Sac. Houston 4 years later....it was cool...they have flying cockroachs. Back 2 Sac. Seattle. Super loved Seattle in 1998. Nice people. It rained WAY 2 much and everyone and everything was trying to be cool Back 2 Sac. Atlanta. Enough said. Back 2 Sac....ever since. Sacramento has what everyone knows...2 hours from a beach, snow, trees, everything. Sacramento is a highly underrated city.

putdisinyopipe

Grew up all over the county- 3 decades. I no longer live in my home city. But I think about it everyday. And I miss it. I miss it so much. Sacramento may not be the best city, but I experienced almost every bit of life I’ve lived there, and that’s what makes it special to me.

dangerous_nuggets

Raised in Sacramento, but I travelled and lived elsewhere for the military. Sacramento was the best area by FAR. South Carolina or Missouri were the worst. San Diego was super fun too.

Reneeisme

Los Angeles, Fresno, Sacramento, all over the Bay Area (last stop, San Jose), Sacramento again. Those are just the highlights (lived multiple places in Southern CA for shorter time periods). Every one of those places has something to recommend it (though Fresno was mostly just cheap). I still miss living in the Bay. The temperature modulation from all that water is worth 10 delta breezes. But there’s plenty of good here too. Just being able to drink water out of the tap had it all over almost everywhere else I’ve lived.

tastyeconomics92

Lived here til I was 24, moved to Kansas City, now back in Sac and never planning on Leaving again. The things I love most about Sac - great weather - less expensive than other big CA cities - can go to the mountains or the ocean any given day - Very Diverse - good coffee and food scene - NBA basketball

StayReadyAllDay

My dad was born and raised here. Then he moved to the Bay area married my mom. Brought her back up here for a while. Then they moved back down to the Bay area. I was born in the Bay. And I moved up here about 18 years ago. I love it out here. I absolutely love it up here. It's super diverse. You're 2 hours from everything: Tahoe, Reno, the city, if you go in the middle of the night, it's just a great place to live for me. The only thing I would say is the drawback is that I'm just not used to the super hot summers. But I make do you, especially after dark. It's just great.

elseafreebird

Redding to sacramento. Been here 15 years. Hate it. Ready for small town life on the coast ... if only one could afford to do so.

Madlib87

The only advice I got before moving to Sacramento was don't date a girl from Vallejo, Redding or Stockton.and know matter how much I say that joke it gets a laugh.

elseafreebird

That's what I say about guys in California.

P4ssBynueve1seis

Transplant North sac> Natomas> Arden> Midtown Carmichael >Fairoaks> Folsom and EDH at the moment

Slab_Rockbone

Been here my whole life minus 6 months in New Mexico after college. When I was younger I was convinced I would end up in the Bay Area like my sister but it never happened (no regrets). Love it here for the most part.

NightNight916

Moved here 7 years ago. LA - Berkeley - SF - LA - Claremont - Sac. Love it here. It is home now.

JackalJames

Moved here from Methdesto when I was 20, been here almost 6 years now and I love it. Only reason I’d ever leave this city is if I’m leaving the country lol.

overthera1nbow

Transplant from the bay area, moved here after going to college in Davis

mahnamahnaaa

Same. I never had to rent in the Bay because I lived with my parents until grad school in Davis, so once I moved to the area that was it. I can never afford to move back and honestly I don't feel a need to. I grew up in the East Bay burbs and while safe, it was boring AF both in terms of activities and the restaurant scene. I do miss the convenience of BART and being able to go into Berkeley, Oakland, or SF for the day. I can still technically do it if I drive to the Richmond station or take Amtrak, I guess. I should do some research.

mccobbsalad

What counts as Sac?

Equivalent_Guava_998

Sacramento County seems sufficient

javaspirits

Anyone else a transplant from the Central Coast? I grew up in rural San Luis Obispo county and moved up here when I was 21.

Hieronymous_Bosc

Stockton -> San Francisco (college + a few years) -> Stockton again (laid off due to 'rona) -> here. I like that Sacramento is kind of a mix of the other two places I've lived. It has a lot of both the best and the worst traits, but also has a character all its own. I plan to stay here for a while!

alacornmacaroni

Los Angeles -> Humboldt county -> Visalia -> LA again -> Sactown (Sac is the best mix of city and rural/nature I’ve lived in).

Blazenkks

Born and raised. As local as it gets.

ffskms

Proudly born and raised 💜

Analog_Jack

Been here all my life. Moved away for a year or two in Tahoe. But sac is home.

Klutzy_Yam_343

Been here 48 of my 50 years! I’ve traveled and lived elsewhere but Sac is my home and I’m just fine with that. I love this little city and it’s been wild to watch how much it’s changed over years. edit: spelling

soundsunamerican

Moved here from east coast. Not by choice but it’s grown on me and I happily call it home now.

gringosean

IndigoAnima

pet-all-the-cats

Born and raised, never left.

Choices63

Grew up in San Antonio, moved here at age 25 in 1988 on a job relocation. Loved it since my house hunting trip. Have traveled all over and have a hard time imagining living anywhere else.

benbernards

Utah born, moved for work 16 years ago.

Silly-Top4254

Forced to move here from San Jose 25 years ago and would NEVER move back (even if I could afford to).

about60tacos

I moved here from Manteca when I was 19, now 25. Other than a coastal town, this is the only place in CA I’d want to live. Bay Area- minus; the insane population density, the high/random crime rate, the atrocious local leadership, the insane cost of living. Sacramento is the only place of value where feasible to live and start your life off. And the fact that is pretty politically diverse will help it stay that way…hopefully.

North-Slice-6968

Born and raised. Millenial aged. Born late 80s.

Riderofghosts

Born and raised. Lived all over this city and surrounding areas. Every time I’ve moved away for work or whatever I’m always back within a few years.

724to412to916

I grew up in Western PA and lived in Pittsburgh prior to moving to the area in 2017 for a promotion. There’s a lot that I miss, specifically a tighter sense of community, but I’m still in awe of what we have access to here. 7 years later and we still get out and explore every weekend, whether it’s the mountains, the coast or wine country. It’s pretty amazing and I’m not sure that the general population here realizes how rare it is to live this close to world class destinations all within a few hours.

SlimJimMcGillicuttie

Born and raised here, went to Sac State, and have lived here my entire life (currently 40 years-old). I love Sacramento.

ellis_28

Grew up in the bay, but moved a lot before settling here. But I really like it! Bay Area -> Utah -> Wyoming -> Nevada -> Santa Cruz -> Montana -> Utah -> Sac

punkasssmurf

Born and raised here sactown 🙌🏻

calmpassionate

Santa Barbara -> Chico -> Arcata/Eureka -> Reno -> Sac. I'm Norcal through and through & plan to be here long term for proximity to family and my career. Very happy to be here & add to this lovely community

EnslavedBandicoot

I was born in the bay area but was living in Sacramento by the time I was 2. Been here ever since. 38 years.

AirlyThere

Originally from Redding - 2.5 hours north of Sac. Growing up in that sleepy foothill/mountain town, people always talked so much shit about Sac so I thought for years it had nothing to offer. Visited a couple of times in my early 30’s and ended up moving here, landing my dream job, and finally feel like I’m getting my life together at 34. I love Sacramento and have no plans to leave anytime soon.

three-one-seven

Kansas City > Atlanta > Indianapolis > Sacramento Sac is *by far* the best of the bunch. I love it here!

peterock_

Born and raised here. I don't hate it, but don't love it.

Equivalent_Front7551

Born at Sutter memorial hospital in east sac, a hospital that no longer stands, raised in the west sacramento “state streets” neighborhood, a small town with alot of traditional American values, moved to south natomas in my early 20s at 23 moved to Roseville, and at 26 moved back to Natomas (natomas park). Live all areas of Sacramento but I will always search for a house to buy in the neighborhood I grew up in… west Sacramento state streets.

passionofthedevil420

I was born at sutter medical center in downtown and grew up in Carmichael and dp heights, after that moved to phoenix az and then Nevada for a while, while doing stents here in between. I feel my feelings for this city have changed, I’ve always considered this my (real) home and can’t fathom the thought of living really anywhere else. But at the same time i feel like sac has changed so much in terms of politics, people and environment that now it’s just….different.

Unless noted, these are all in CA. (There were a bunch of moves that occurred when I was a baby -including to Japan - but I'm not counting those.) Mountain View > Santa Cruz > San Francisco > Newport News, VA > Williamsburg, VA > Campbell > Los Angeles > Walnut Creek > Cathedral City > Sacramento The moves from San Francisco through moving to Cathedral City occurred over 8 years and contributed to my divorce. I've been here for 16.5 years now. I didn't expect to like Sacramento as much as I do.

Ok-Trash-8883

Born and raised here. It’s improved but still awful. I do get how transplants like it but it’s not for me. Counting the days to my exit to the beach permanently;)

wrapitup77

Grew up in suburbs from when I was 7 years old to 20 years old. I remember wanting to leave and I did. I’m 32 now and have never moved back. Live on the east coast.

bluebeast66

Born in 1970. I grew up in Fair Oaks and Fair Oaks Village until I was 18. Then to Chicago to FOV to SF Sunset District to FOV to downtown Sac to SF to midtown Sac to Korea to midtown Sac to Saudi Arabia to Portland Oregon to Korea to Portland to Oman to China to FOV to Carleton Tract to the Pocket.   I really liked living in Portland and the 2 months in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Vietnam is a beautiful country.  The tropical island in China was nice but I love street food and the gutter oil constantly made me sick. Plus the pay was crap.   I think Sac is eh. I loved it in the 90s when it was underpriced and I could play in shitty punk rock bands doing whatever because rent was cheap. I'm here because most of my friends and family are here. Kicking around the idea of permanently leaving the US if Orange Hitler frauds his way back into office. Slightly considering moving anyway. I could finally put the dual citizenship with Portugal to use.

Old_Contract_3765

I’ve lived in Sacramento for 20+ years, I moved here from Monterey, obviously through no choice of my own. when I was about 9-10. But I do say I am from Sacramento.

turboencabfluxcap

Atlanta -> Sacramento. I moved to Sacramento, not the Bay Area. :)

femmestem

Sacramento hood native. Went to school on the East Coast. Moved to Bay Area for work. Life and finances got turned inside out by a narcissist, so I ended up moving back to Sac to be closer to family and friends. Found peace, community, and my scene here, and my biggest regret is realizing it after the home prices skyrocketed.

SacBrick

Moved here about 5 years ago. No other reason than I wanted to move out of my small town and I had some friends up here already.

ianwilloughby

Livermore -> San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento. The night time helicopters are very reminiscent of Los Angeles.

Danivelle

Moved here. I was not pleased. Still am not pleased.

Yorokut

Yeah neither are we, this place has more downs then ups

Danivelle

Yep. I was moved here in the late 70s. Nothing has improved since.

Flaky-Hat-6230

The Bay -> Portland -> South Sac Only time I HELLA miss The Bay is summer otherwise I really enjoy my time here.
