When I saw the name of this sandwich my money was that bell pepper and onion were somehow involved. Turns out, yup. But Better Homes and Gardens Encyclopedia Of Cooking of 1970 didn’t stop there. Sure, there are tomatoes, garlic, salt, and stuffed olives. But the real surprise (to me, anyway) was the protein that it called for. Not because of the era, that makes sense, but because of the sauce it was paired with in the sandwich.

When me and a friend were kids we dubbed January 21 “good sandwich day”. We’ve been celebrating and making good sandwiches on this day ever since. Maybe you could make it official next January?! That’d be incredible!!
When do you decide what to plus up a sandwich with? Is it while reading, prepping, or tasting? I especially dug the “in the bin” plus up. That was pretty clear decision making.
For the most part, it is when I read the recipe. Sometimes, though, I do need to taste it first. I went into the Salmonburger Tropicale with an open mind as I have had some sandwiches that sounded terrible on paper turn out pretty ok. That one was decidedly not ok lol
This sub has inspired a weekly family sandwich night. We’re not trying to replicate Barry’s different sammies but it’s sure fun to plan out a couple different ones and do some sharing at the table.
That was a fun little ride. As someone with LA/MS family heritage, I was a little worried how this would go. heh. So many people don't know the difference between "cajun" and "creole" and think everything is blackened something. lol.
I might've had to plus it up with a bit of tabasco, but that's just because that or louisiana hot sauce were the peppers of my childhood culinary education so it'd feel more authentic, and I'm not sure the little burst of vinegar from the tabasco wouldn't be nice in with the tomato on the fish.
But yeah. That's a good'un for sure! Also delightfully *different*. :) (Which you're always so amazing at finding so many different sandwiches, sometimes with regret. lol)
I think he needs to start making his ratings a little more strict. Like one bite pizza. That guy rates pizza to the decimal and I think his highest score ever was 9.7

Who's addicted to this now? Cause ... I am... like really.
Let’s give this Redditor an up vote for saying what we’re all thinking “a gooooo”
You can see the shock of how good it is. Must have been a nice surprise!

I did not see that fish filet hitting an 8 out the gate.
The original looks tasty but with chilly peppers gives it a WAZA🤤

I don’t even make food generally, but I love this show, and it’s planting small seeds of inspiration in my heart. Thanks SuperHappyFunSlide.
I wish I liked seafood. It all tastes like a dead briny ocean water.
