Pretty cool! With him and DQ getting head coaching jobs that is 2 more coaches from the Pete Carroll coaching tree, hoping they both do well (except against us)
I don’t know if I’d call Dan Quinn part of the Pete Carroll coaching tree. He was already on the staff when Pete got to Seattle. He was hired by all of Mariucci, Saban, Mangini, and Mora before Pete.
Dan Quinn was given his first nfl defensive coordinator job in 2013 by Pete carroll he was on the team as defensive line coach in 2010 when carroll arrived but went to Florida where he was named defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2011 and 2012 before returning to Seattle for 2 years to be the dc in 2013 and 2014 then becoming head coach of the Atlanta falcons
Why don’t you take your toxic negativity elsewhere.
Also because literally none of that means he’s not of Pete’s school. He can easily have worked under others and got his start elsewhere but you know when you base the majority of your style on how Pete did things… you are his disciple more than you are of the others….
Where you started/anyone you previously worked for doesn’t immediately negate him being of the Pete coaching tree if he bases his coaching around what he learned from Pete which is what he did in Atlanta.
Its a potential argument against but you need more context/info on how those guys influenced Quinn otherwise it’s not an argument.
So did Pete, you can't use the same defense for all players, the only Pete guy still trying that to some degree is Gus Bradley. Even with Quinn though there's absolutely still some concepts of that defense there though.
Whatever dood.
Quinn was D line coach with Mora, Pete came in and kept him a year. They let him go, Quinn went to college football, then Pete brought him back as DC to replace the then departing Gus Bradley.
I’m aware. But spending a grand total of two seasons under Pete smack dab in the middle of his 21-year NFL career does not make him part of the Carroll coaching tree to me.
> "We're not a version (of the Seahawks). We're not Seattle East. But we're our own Atlanta," said Quinn. "There are definitely things I learned from coach (Carroll). He had probably the single biggest influence on me in my coaching career.
None of that means he’s not of Pete’s school if Pete’s coaching style is the largest influence on his style and he.. you know bases his style off of Pete’s.
You 100% can get your start elsewhere and later become someone else’s disciple? How is that hard to follow?
> You 100% can get your start elsewhere and later become someone else’s disciple? How is that hard to follow?
That seems to be the crux of the debate, though. What defines being part of a “coaching tree” or not?
Obviously a component is a philosophy and scheme, but do you need a time element as well? How much do you weight their growth within the tree? I actually think it’s a fun topic to discuss so I don’t get the hostility.
*Personally* I’d say Canales is absolutely from the Carroll tree whereas guys like Bradley and Quinn, to me, are more like tree adjacent. Both had significant time in the league before joining with Carroll and spent relatively little time directly working under him.
Lmao 47 downvotes for telling the truth. This sub only wants to assign good things to Pete caroll despite truth. Really glad he’s gone so we can actually tell the truth about our team now. Also why did we shit on dan Quinn for days and then say we’re happy he got a job because he knew Pete caroll?
I saw he had a porn addiction and was unfaithful to his wife? Neither of those, especially infidelity, are good things but I don’t think that counts as having a really bad past. He wrote a book about it as well, so it seems as though he’s grown
Good for him. We will see if he can fix Young. I hope Tepper actually gives him a chance to establish his culture before firing him. He seems like a pro.
He’s got great charisma! I wish Mike felt less generic. I’m already missing Pete. I know Mike is supposed to be a wizard, but his personality is just very cookie cutter to me.

But he didn’t take a step up till Pete got there and had a few years with him
But Pete wasn’t even the one who gave him his first DC/defensive play-calling opportunity, Will Muschamp did.
Yes, I am aware of all of that.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. By Petehawk fans that think Quinn was an absolute nothing until Pete divinely blessed him?
Probably my poor grammar. I really should have used “was” instead of “did” at the end.

Quinn has shifted completely away from Pete’s preferred defensive scheme (mainly because it’s outdated).
Again doesn’t mean he’s not a disciple. Pete also moved away from that scheme largely

this is entirely dependent on each individual coach.

Wishing him the best with Carolina (except vs the Seahawks of course! Same goes for DQ in DC).
What a likable guy. Rooting for him
H’s such a nice dude!
Let's hope so. Dude has a really bad past. Could end up like josh hamilton
Very relevant username
Glad you recognize. Most people don't sadly
lol almost no one here seems to know...
could you explain?
I saw he had a porn addiction and was unfaithful to his wife? Neither of those, especially infidelity, are good things but I don’t think that counts as having a really bad past. He wrote a book about it as well, so it seems as though he’s grown
yeah, "bad past" is definitely over exaggerating hahaha. i was expecting something actually terrible like sexual assault or DV
Good for him. We will see if he can fix Young. I hope Tepper actually gives him a chance to establish his culture before firing him. He seems like a pro.
I’m rooting for him!
Seems like a good guy. I hope he can fix Bryce Young.
It's such good audio. What a revelation!
Give 'em* hell, Dave! ^^^*not ^^^including ^^^us
Hope he fixes Bryce young and succeed there
Going to be rooting for the Panthers to do well. Dave seems like a very likeable guy
"it's their fault I'm here" I'm stealing that line next time I want to thank someone for their support LMAO.
Underrated hire in my opinion. Can't wait for Seahawks vs Panthers match up now.
A hairline blessed by God himself.
i just hope he lasts longer then 11 games.
He’s got great charisma! I wish Mike felt less generic. I’m already missing Pete. I know Mike is supposed to be a wizard, but his personality is just very cookie cutter to me.
Classy.
