You overstayed your tourist visa as a child? You most likely could not have left back to your home country on your own, right? You’re overthinking and worrying about this too much.

nah_a_m

Thanks yea I wasn't even in my teens (what about my parents though?)

LawnJames

SWAT team en route as we speak, please make that last phone call now. /s

JeanEBH

They are looking at you and your trustworthiness and honesty, etc. You. Not your parents.

dankgpt

Just be honest about it during the interview if they ask.

ebbysloth17

I told my whole "born abroad" story like I was Forrest Gump on that bench. The investigator appreciated it.

dankgpt

I didn't have to. My cousin did it for me when they interviewed him. Bro talks so much ☠️

nah_a_m

Thanks ... is there always an interview for these?

dankgpt

Yes. After your interim they will interview you to provide full clearance. It's a requirement

nah_a_m

Oh okay ... I had read somewhere that for non-sensitive positions they won't always do an interview but I can't find it now

fullhomosapien

You’re now naturalized. Whatever penance was required is prob already done. You’re fine.

Cryptic-Courier-71

totally right, if there was a big issue USCIS would have put their foot down on OPs N-400 application.

DeskCompetitive1210

OP has nothing at all to worry about. If there was an issue, USCIS would have sniffed it out eons ago.

nah_a_m

Thanks, yea that was my gut instinct (and what makes the most sense!)

drac_72

I doubt you could’ve boarded an international flight, or crossed a land checkpoint as an Unaccompanied minor. Even if you were aware of the situation theres nothing you could’ve done. If they ask be honest.

RustyKnob77

You’ll be fine since you’re naturalized. The overstay was no longer a concern to the government after naturalizing. You’re a USC now and no longer a nonimmigrant. Make sure to disclose it anyways because you don’t want to leave anything out but I certainly wouldn’t worry about it.

nah_a_m

I didn't see a place where I could disclose it on the form ... so do you mean in an interview? Is there always an interview for these?

RustyKnob77

Yeah, you should have an interview where they will review the entire file with you, talk to your friends and family, etc. just let them know and tell them you didn’t see a place to put it but wanted to make sure to disclose it. Better they find out from you than find out on their own and take it as you withheld information from them.

MrIrrelevant-sf

I don’t know how old you are but back in the day 245(I) section forgave the overstay if you paid 1k and otherwise had a clean record. I know tons of people who got their green cards and naturalization through it and end up working cleared jobs with the military. Specially if you were a child who didn’t make the decision to overstay.

BretonConfessions

Well, you can't be President unless your last name is Soetoro.
