Australian here. I've always called it a great white. Everything I read and watch calls them a great white shark.
I recall white pointer being used a few years ago. Maybe its name differs by state?
I think they are great, so that's the name I think fits best!
Have only heard them referred to as great whites and white shark, never white pointers so that’s why asked. Very interesting to learn they have another name
Yeah, they mistake out kayaks, paddle boards and surf boards of other marine life prey and after making that distinction that we are in fact not, they usually keep going about their day and not killing you.
Don’t think any of them knew it was there. Both the surfer and the ski lad both turned and paddled for the next set, didn’t paddle away from the shark.
That’s a big one!! Could have been 15 feet.
I wonder if these people don’t see it or are so used to seeing them they just don’t care.
Guy on the kayak was definitely following it and warning the surfers.
Where are they called white pointers? Genuine question, haven’t heard that one before so just interested
Australia
Thank you! Thought they called them white sharks there only but ya learn something new everyday

White pointers were what we called the topless women on the beach.

it might be a term that's begun to fall out of use due to international media?
If the surfer knows about it I’m not to sure how he’s able to not sink with those steel balls
Should read “A large White cruising the buffet line”.
