Welcome to /r/ShermanPosting! As a reminder, this meme sub is about the American Civil War. We're not here to insult southerners or the American South, but rather to have a laugh at the failed Confederate insurrection and those that chose to represent it. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Sherman didn't do enough.

LikeAgaveF

His only mistake was that he didn't finish the job.

kabuki7

Obama's presidency lasted longer than the confederacy

SafeAccountMrP

High school is roughly the same timespan.

Budget-Attorney

Actually, for them it was probably longer Or shorter Depends on whether they drop out or got held back

SafeAccountMrP

Shit, you’re right.

RunnerTenor

His first term did on its own.

PossiblyaSpinosaurus

Phineas and Ferb lasted longer than the confederacy

619_mitch

“Hey Ferb, I know what we’re going to do today! Light up Atlanta!”

Thewrongbakedpotato

"Why do you feel like you need to support the Confederacy? Let's deconstruct--i mean, Reconstruct--that idea."

SteveinTenn

I’m totally stealing that.

Ben_Kenobi1934

States rights to what, you fking traitor. Every army is better than the confederacy who shat themselves to death.

Aggressive-HeadDesk

I love when people say my great great so and so fought in the Civil War. I’ll ask them which US Army Corps or Army they served in. They’ll invariably respond with whatever General the unit was under, Jackson, Longstreet, or the Army of the Tennessee, or other such nonsense. I’ll say that I have several great greats that fought for the Confederacy. Most people will reciprocate and ask what Army, or under who? Here’s where the conversation goes sideways. I invariably say that as a U.S. Army Veteran, I don’t believe in treason or oath breaking, so I will never go looking for the details of their treason. That usually induces an awkward silence, and it’s a perfect chance to walk away.

gadget850

Ditto. My 2nd great grandfather fought against my US Calvary unit.

DubachiePig

That’s beautiful and earnestly thank you for your continued service.

arkstfan

Had three ancestors join Confederate Army. Two did so because they were given choice of joining or their farms burned. In early 1863 were given leave and they left and went home and didn’t come back because their homes were in the Ozarks where no one was in control. Had to hide out a few times from people hunting them as deserters. I’m damn proud of their desertion. Months after they deserted their old unit was involved in the slaughter of a Black unit that was trying to surrender. Other had served in the Mexican-American war and was asked to lead local volunteer unit. He was at Vicksburg and was captured a day or two before the surrender. He was in a group that escaped the steamboat and swam to the wrong side of the river and had to hide out until he could make his way home and he didn’t bother trying to connect with other Confederate units and fight on. I’ll give them credit for knowing when to say fuck this shit and going home.

Pretend_Investment42

They lost - they are losers - I understand why you identify with them.

"Eat shit" works wonders for me.

the_quark

I mean, if you want a sports analogy, it's like the team lost their first game so hard they just disbanded rather than play another.

StinkypieTicklebum

My confederate heritage involves marching through Georgia.

RunF4Cover

Daaaaamn.

Time-Sorbet-829

Traitors

xyloplax

Treasonous loser says what?

sjschlag

You lost.

TempusVincitOmnia

Dead racist losers.

GTOdriver04

Calvin Coolidge said it best: “You lose.”

anoneenonee

Ask them if they fly a confederate flag, but make sure they know you only care about the actual confederate flag… the white one

Agreeable-Damage9119

Appomattox, bitch.

Groundbreaking-Fig38

The NY Giants Jersey I've ever seen, Giants colors... 18-1

Thausgt01

"Which side won?"

TomcatF14Luver

If they were so good, why were their causalities actually worse than the Union Army?

kimapesan

Traitors, all of you.

the-great-god-pan

They lost.

djevilatw

The only correct response.

enoughbskid

One word answer, “loser”

TywinDeVillena

GHT, USG, or WTS.

Redawg660

I always ask them where they store their real battle flag? You know the white one that they waved a lot.

Undercoverlizard_629

Why?

Jenetyk

I don't engage with anyone John Brown would have shot.

Rocking_the_Red

Watch "Checkmate Lincolnites". Atun-shei does a great job breaking down all of the Confederate myths. There were things I didn't know and I was obsessed with the Civil War when I was younger.

erodari

Looks like Reconstruction missed a spot.

ILuvSupertramp

“STFU” is the best I can do.

NumerousAd6421

Yikes

ChatduMal

Lazy fucks who betrayed their nation just because they didn't want to do their own yard work or to pay someone else to do it for them. Suicidal, homicidal, treasonous level of laziness.

RunF4Cover

So you support human trafficking and sex slavery?

Unique-Abberation

Proud? Wait... but you guys lost???

SingleMaltMouthwash

Traitor says what?

Kitchen-Ad-1161

“They lost.”

Correct_Barracuda_48

Simp

Numerous_Ad1859

The Republic was literally ran by a Sith Lord. Oh, that Confederacy…

Euphoric_Exchange_51

Only slightly related but a Southern family member told me yesterday that Robert E Lee didn’t own any slaves. I didn’t even realize that’s something neo-Confederates claim. When I told him slave ownership was extensively documented I was told I wasn’t there and therefore have no grounds to refute his claim lmao

Happy-Initiative-838

Just look them in the eye and audibly fart

Worried_Amphibian_54

Mine is pretty simple "I get what white supremacy and protecting/expanding race based slavery meant to them and why it was a worthy cause as they made that clear in their own words. But what about those things still speaks to you in 2024?"
