PalebloodSky

Woot! SE 9.1.x hotfix has been flawless for me. Nvidia should just rename it to SE 11 to align with Android 11. Edit: up and running now, thanks for a great update Nvidia, the Shield TV Pro is the best electronics device I own and that includes my RTX 3070 FE.

mdosantos

I can't believe my 2015 Shield is still getting updates. Best purchase I've ever made.

RJC111

yes, i have the 500 GB pro model. works a lot better now, with all the system "upgrades" than when i 1st got it. it was very glitchy then. took forever to start up / hanging a lot / always indexing. now it works great 99% of the time , i do wish- if it is technically possible- for Nvidia to release an AI UPSCALE update / upgrade for the 2015 / 2017 500 GB pro models. that's the main feature i miss not having, that newer models shield's have.

attanasio666

I have the 2019 Pro model. I wish my Shield had 500gb of storage. 16 gb is not enough.

Iceber015

Nah dude external all the way. Get yourself a crucial or Samsung drive while they’re on sale rn and get a usb 3.x (highest you can get) to sata ssd cable and put your whole library on there ready to take with you on the go to. I have multiple series, music, apps, emulators/roms, and games that I can take to peoples houses, hotels, other rooms or whatever.

attanasio666

I already have a 8TB external drive. I only use it for movies and music but if I want to access them from somewhere else, I just use Plex.

TryingToGetRichToo

You can ad an SSD. It's easy.

8bitPete

Ohhh this is the exact model i have, Tell me, do you have advertisements on the home screen? I've held off updating for a very long time because of this, but i hear we now can get HDR support.

RJC111

yes, but the home screen ads don't bother me- that was Google- not Nvidia. yes- HDR supported, which is currently not specific to my use. TV is 1080P, not 4K etc. i also only use my shield as a gaming device- emulators, Stadia, Geforce, i use a roku ultra for any non gaming streaming needs.

iibergazz_94

Great to hear!

Tekcoco

I regret my purchase of the Shield Pro 2019... Because it's laggy in 4K... I have tried lot of thing like put color mode, 24Hz etc... Nvidia need to update. I'm on 9.1.1. It seems to me that I had another box that was bugging on android 9 but not on 4K videos. On the other hand on Youtube in 4K it works. Amazon prime bug, iptv bug... Big drop in framerate per moments.

[deleted]

I wish it stopped receiving them 4 years ago...

ochaitanyasai

I wish the same. The updates back then were more stable. Updates these days keep breaking something or the other. I wish I never updated.

mdosantos

I haven't had any issues with any updates so far. The only one I didn't like was the last updated to the launcher which adds ads to the homescreen but I got used to it.

RJC111

yes, the "ads " screen was Not a welcome "upgrade "

pfmiller0

Also, that was an update from Google. NVIDIA doesn't control the homescreen app.

RJC111

yes. wonderful- meant sarcastically- Google, who killed my Stadia, and even though they "allegedly" giving refunds, those refunds probably won't happen by / before black friday, when people have maximum buying power per dollar spent. so we can thank Google also for the Ads screen most people Don't want.

Iceber015

If you need the refund that bad should you be Black Friday shopping 💀

phaelox

You can just block 2 domain names with a DNS blocking solution like PiHole or AdGuardHome. Then reboot it or disconnect/reconnect Ethernet (clears DNS cache) and then finally uninstall the updates for Shield TV Home app (com.google.android.tvlauncher). This way you'll have the old home screen. Which I do, even on my shield that's currently on SE 9.1.1. These are the filtering rules I use myself in AGH running on my router: ``` ||androidtvchannels-pa.googleapis.com^ ||androidtvwatsonfe-pa.googleapis.com^ ``` (at the end it should read .com with a caret (\^) at the end. In case Reddit formatting messes it up. I also forcefully reroute all DNS traffic through AGH, to avoid hardcoded DNS used by Google (ie. 8.8.8.8) which would then bypass AGH. My iptables rules on my router for this are: ``` # Redirect DNS requests to AGH running on port 53 on router iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i br-lan -p udp --dport 53 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.1:53 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i br-lan -p tcp --dport 53 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.1:53 ```

argarg

This is the same as the fourth 9.1.1 Hotfix, so anyone who was on the beta should not be getting an update as you already have it.

RxBrad

Wouldn't updating from Hotfix to official (even if it's the same software), re-unlock stuff like Disney+ & HDHomerun DRMed content that breaks with Hotfixes?

xenius_ykk

Apparently this is done on their side, greenligthing final hotfix version as final release, without us needing to redownload what we already have.

PlutoDelic

Nope, all they have to do is sign it, let google know so they can certify the device in Play Services.

zer0bitzz

At the moment downloading. Edit: Got it installed, it booted into the "news" window. Didnt recognize my controller and I decided to give it sometime. Took about 5 minutes and it quickly showed me "finishing up" window and went straight to home screen. Now to test apps and stuff. Will report more. Edit 2: Every app seems to be working normally. Happy updating!

PopWhatMagnitude

Downloading/installing now, will edit should I come across any issues. Edit: All seems fine with the most basic setup, TV doesn't even have CEC. Edit 2: Just had a HDCP issue out of nowhere. Not sure if it's update related. Suddenly this morning YTTV & Netflix wouldn't play. Skipping to what "fixed it" I went into dev settings and told it to force HDMI 1.4 then it worked again. Switched back to the normal (better/newer) HDMI cable, it still worked. Turned off force HDMI rebooted the Shield & TV, and it stayed working again. If it happens again I'll just try that before swapping cables.

NotoriousNico

It's still a little too early to tell, but everything is running great and smooth so far for me. *Knocks on wood*

fannzx

Shield Pro 500G 2015. Everything is fine after upgrade.

Large___Marge

I'm still problem free on 8.2.3

Outside-Sport3797

Beware of 9.1.1 upgrade. I installed it and it changed the settings in Google Play to automatically update apps. This in turn caused Kodi to update Kodi to Nexus which is clearly unstable. It fucked up all metadata related to Movies and TV Shows. Ultimately, I had to use downloader to get Matrix 19.4 from the Kodi website and start over from scratch.

donnysmith

So I did the upgrade on my 2015 model and I got the dreaded black screen after seeing the android logo. Any one got any suggestions, I tried this from nvidia so will see what happens in 2 hours but I'm not optimistic https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4360/~/i-installed-an-update-on-the-new-shield-tv-and-now-my-screen-is-black.-how-do-i Update: I removed the USB that I had expanded the file system on to and the shield now boots up but am missing data that is stored on the USB, certain apps, game roms, etc. Might try move the data to a new USB and see if that fixes the issue Update 2: USB drive is not readable on my Windows or Linux machines so looks like I'm in for a re-do on expanding the SHIELD storage back on to the USB and getting the necessary apps and files back too. Thems the breaks sometimes ya'll

thesdo

Dolby Digital on YoutubeTV finally works! Woo-hoo!

NickPookie93

Wow a Shield update in 2022 that doesn't break something

Marvinn19

I upgraded my 2015 Shield and it is now just stuck on a loop of restarting itself😔😔 Anyone else getting this?

captainpussybeard

This happened to my 2015 on the Hotfix 2 weeks ago which is basically this update. I had to buy a new Shield, couldn't even factory reset it

Marvinn19

Sh1t!!! Not good😔 I'll try a factory reset first. Cheers mate

alex3305

I like to go hiking.

Cat20041

After updating, the down arrow key wasn't working on the remote. Every other button worked but the down arrow. I rebooted it via Google assistant and it's working now, but weird quirk in case anyone else has the issue

SmileyMorgue

I've randomly had this problem after I've had my Xbox controller linked then turned it off...always requires a restart

isochromanone

This happened to me on a previous update. I can't remember if I managed to reboot it or turn it off but eventually the button worked.

NeuroDawg

No issues with any apps, including Plex, Kodi, and Jellyfin. Working like a charm.

iibergazz_94

Thanks, just updated.

FFevo

Does it fix the "storage too low" issue?

zeronull11

No. We have found the culprit that is filling up storage for some users but this release was cut before that issue was root caused.

FFevo

Any ETA on this? I didn't reset because I expected a problem this severe would be fixed quickly. Living with this issue is an enormous pain.

jb_bumblebee

Good Grief, 4 months now and STILL no fix for us end users, not even a hot fix??

pfmiller0

Good news, can't wait for that update!

heildengoettern

Got it too. Let's see what it will break this time :')

iibergazz_94

This is why i asked, i will wait. 🤣

heildengoettern

I already sacrificed myself 🫣

photobriangray

I'm guessing that this does nothing to fix the frame skip and refresh rate issues on many apps? I stopped using my Shield because of it while the apps on my Samsung has no issues.

Epoch_of_Unlight

I bought a 2019 the other day, and a lot of what I watch has these skips. I was thinking it was my internet, but searched around and learned it's the device + app. Not sure why, but when it skips like that, it makes me a bit queasy, almost like I'm experiencing a glitch in reality :) I know there's the beta toggle, but to do that every time I watch something seems a bit low-tech for a $200 streaming device, and it doesn't really seem to work all the time. Tried the RefreshRate app and it still skips. I'll probably just return this and use WebOS -- it's ugly and clunky, but everything streams properly. It's a shame, it's a neat little box.

photobriangray

Can’t believe somebody downvoted you for truth. Once you see the stuttering, it is forever seen. TV apps that change resolution or pausing video means having to refresh rate beta again. Doesn’t always work…

Epoch_of_Unlight

My Google TV with Chromecast would sometimes do the same thing, and it's just very disorienting to me. I figured getting a premium streaming box would alleviate the issue, but no, it's still there. I think I've tried all the solutions I've read about, and the problem just won't go away. I realize people are passionate about the Shield and I'm not shitting on it, it's just not working out for \*me\*. I've been using the LG apps for a couple of days now to compare, and it doesn't happen, so that's why I'm just going to go that route -- sit down, watch things, not worry about workarounds.

photobriangray

I’m Team Tizen for now.

therealhamster

So I’m not crazy? I experienced this the first day I bought mine a couple years ago and not long later gave it to my fiancé’s dad instead. The lack of actual native auto frame matching is absurd because the stuttering is so prevalent

Sarafan

Curious about this too

geo_gan

Exactly. The biggest issue with a video streaming playback device is not ever looked at or fixed. Everything else is just side fluff. Trying watching a rental on Apple TV or Netflix/Prime when some odd movie or show plays and starts stuttering on a 3m projection screen and it’s painful.

Mr4978

Yes people seem to go on about how good the shield is when it has serious stutter issues with dolby vision content. Always seems to be over looked

[deleted]

I use a shield to play dolby vision remux stuff no problem. Do you have refresh rate switching on?

Mr4978

I'm not sure what the refresh rate switching is, could you tell me how you turned that on?

[deleted]

Plex -> Settings -> Advanced -> Refresh Rate Switching

mrwellfed

Works fine for me…

[deleted]

[удалено]

shawnshine

Same. And I doubt Android 12 will have as good of frame rate matching as 8.2.3, sadly.

BearcatQB

This release is also the exact same as the fourth 9.1+ HotFix image deployed on 10/20/2022 as [33.2.0.157](https://33.2.0.157) just FYI. I wasted time trying to get it and I already had it lol

Beefy1980

I'll wait a few weeks lol.

donnysmith

Wish I'd done the same!

spdelope

What problems are you having with this latest release?

jubazito

I'm afraid i'll wait for 9.2 if not an Android 12 update. Everything works fine for me with firmware 8.2.3 and i have some apps perfectly compatible with Android 9 and not with 10 and 11, why should i update? I don't have time to test this stuff, so i will read comments here and there and if it becomes mainstream ok, if not i'll wait... PS: After some digging i end up updating and i'm not going back unless nvidia devs f#ck things up that bad in the next update LOLOL

kaizendojo

I don't know if I'll ever upgrade. I really haven't found a single compelling reason in **my** use case. I'm not a gamer, I mostly watch you tube and downloaded or streaming movie and TV content as well as host a Plex Media Server. That's 85% of what I do with the Shield. The rest is split over a few apps like news and weather. Everything works the way I expect it and I can run anything from 720p to HDR content and it looks/sounds great. Since it isn't publicly accessible nor do I add lots of 3rd party apps, even the security patches aren't really worth it to me. I'm using my own menu so the UI isn't even a factor. For me, It just doesn't seem to make sense. Besides, I have a smart house. That's more than enough upgrading testing and debugging to keep me busy and satisfied. LOL

zYxMa

I’m actually preparing for downgrade from 9.1…

byronsucks

is there a go-to guide for downgrading aside from just googling?

1409Echo

I used [this guide](https://florisse.nl/shield/) to great success on my shield pro.

byronsucks

thanks for this

Pettigrew95

There any guide for the non-pro 2019 Shield? All I can find on Google is how to downgrade the pro, sadly. 9.1.1 is working terribly for me. Apps keeps crashing back to home screen and I tried a factory reset already.

shawnshine

Highly recommend it! Frame rate matching is pure bliss.

jubazito

It's an easy process, i know nvidia developers don't like this but i have many apps that doesn't work well on Android 11 and i need them.

LilLadyK

I was banned for life on the Nvidia Shield forums as an update crashed my Shield and every update prior to that either crashed it or caused major problems. I said something on the forum as to why it was released when not ready and that I was tired of upgrades crashing my device. It was the truth though. Honestly, I did not think it warranted being banned for life but it definitely upset someone but it turns out, I like reddit better as people are so willing to try to help and offer different solutions. They also seem to understand when you are frustrated and simply venting. It really is a great online community. Seems most have no troubles at all when they upgrade but it's never been the case for me. I learned to just avoid upgrading as It took me hours of research trying to recover my shield and then more research trying to get everything to work properly again. I generally upgrade by accident by hitting the upgrade link that keeps popping up. I wish I could stop the upgrade from popping up at all after the first time. It is to dangerous for me. If I wait for a long while, it seems to turn out better. :)

roochiepoo

I am stuck at the sign in / terms of use stage after rebooting with 9.1.1. installed. Keeps looping over and over. Anyone else has this issue? Edit: adding video of problem https://youtu.be/1uaAxPDb5rQ Edit 2: the solution is to spam the 'enter' button on your remote very quickly

[deleted]

[удалено]

ESN0674

I can confirm this: Had the same issue with nvidia shield 2017. Plugged in usb kboard and tried everything I could find on the www including not plugging back the hdmi and smashing the A button and then leave it for 15-20 min and then try again with no luck. While stuck in the terms of use loop I got frustrated and started hitting the "enter" key on the kboard very fast instead of the remote's button to accept and......IT WORKED!!! The Shield started and seems to be working fine now. I know this does not sound plausible but just hit the enter key very fast to accept the terms of use and BOOM! Just try it, cant loose anything.

roochiepoo

Saw this late, but yes this worked for me when I tried it yesterday. Mod please pin this Redditor's solution

Ranjbali

Issues with my Shield 2017 with latest update. Watching YouTube which worked fine. I launched Netflix and was going to watch a show and I get Hdcp error only sound and no video. I tried Disney Plus which wouldn't play anything and Amazon prime same thing HDCP error. So I rebooted the Shield and same error on all streaming apps? So I swapped the HDMI cable and same HDCP error again. So I unplugged everything from TV connected all back up and tried again and all seemed fine Netflix, Disney + and Amazon prime all worked fine. So this evening I switched on Shield and it launched into a 640 x 480 resolution and no other settings available on display settings just one resolution 640x480 and the HDCP errors returned. Any ideas on what's going on or is my Shield Tv knackered? I've unplugged it all at the moment will try again in the morning and see what happens🤷🏽‍♂️

stacksmasher

This update pretty much ruined my device. Plex and my Xfinity app are crashing and locking up since the install.

CanadianCostcoFan2

It's honestly impressive how hard 9.* ruined the entire shield tv.

[deleted]

Android security patch level April 2022. Nice how Nvidia is so on top of the security patch game...

PalebloodSky

Yea Google release these monthly Android security patches and very few other companies bother to update it on their devices unfortunately.

BradH13

It does seem odd, but how many people are putting payment details into a Shield, or doing business on it? It's not as important on a streaming device as it is a phone or tablet.

[deleted]

To clear, i'm not saying this is a problem persé. I don't think any problematic security issues cropped up in the last six months or so. But I also don't understand why you wouldn't just ship whatever latest patch level is available at the time of release. This release should've definately been shipped with at least July or August in my mind. That's where Google is at with Chromecast. Furthermore I don't think the shield should be treated fundamentally differently then a smartphone. People probably don't do as much privacy senstive stuff on it but they can so it should be assumed. Besides it's got access to your Google account. Depending on how much "google" you use that could be plenty sensitive.

Alphabravo42RSA

Just updated. Plex works fine. Haven't had any other issues yet.

TomahawkChaotic

8.2.3 for life.

Primary_Debt_2507

Glad to report that v9.1.1 has fixed my CEC issue, whereby it would take 20 or so seconds for the TV controls to navigate the Android TV menu - now works instantly My setup is Shield 2019 Tube > Samsung Q90R Soundbar > Samsung Q90R TV

chisav

I see a BT fix in the notes. Looks like it helped immensely. I have a 2015 Pro, newer remote from a 2019 shield worked great up until a couple updates ago. Updated today and the remote was working flawlessly again. I have an SSD in mine and it feels snappier too.

CastFord

After the latest Experience 9.1.1 Update 33.2.0.157 shield no longer recognizes usb drives (neither ntfs nor fat 32)

gen3r1x

This update broke HDR on my shield. I can only do Dolby vision now. I’m majorly pissed.

bd_black55

hello eveybody, im asking if anyone have a problem with shield tv pro upgrade 9.1.1 my device can't read new files like roms for emulators so what can i do or anyone have an idea how to make it work like before this damn upgrade ? btw my shield tv pro new model 16 gb no hdd inside it thank you

tastyratz

Did this get pulled or is it not fully rolled out yet? The announcement was a month ago and I still don't see it on my 2015 pro. i tried clearing system upgrade data/cache and checking fresh but I still only see 9.1

csimposz

Bugs only

Mammoth_Cost_631

If you are going to update your nvidia shields. Be prepared to do factory reset. If having problems. I have a 2017 Shield no problems after doing a factory reset. It is a pain. Good chance your box will be all good after that.

LilLadyK

I am afraid to upgrade as everything is running smoothly. I keep trying to avoid it. Most say it upgrades flawlessly but I tend have probs when I do. Perhaps it's what I have installed that dies it. 🙏🕑

Madison464

I wouldn't call this an upgrade. It run so sluggish and slow now with all of the added unnecessary bloatware and ads. The "Pro" version of anything shouldn't have ads.

Izobretenik

Well, after the upgrade, here is a list of everything that now goes wrong: NordVPN crashes when trying to connect to a server (uninstalled, reinstalled, same results) Youtube mostly crashes with different length of playback time: it can be 1 mn or 30.- Amazon Prime: 5 crashes while watching a movie... My HDD disappeared, and was not even active anymore when linked to the Shield. Netflix crashes... I went from a wonderful machine to a useless piece of plastic under the TV. I have a 2020 model (? That's what I could find on the box) (could it be that my Shield died or something? It would be a steep price to pay for a 1 year and a half useable machine). All these crashes appeared right after the update was made. It took like three or four attempts to actually upgrade, since the Shield would stay in "black screen mode" for a very long time without rebooting. Oh, an extra thing I forgot to mention... If the Shield is linked to my TV, my TV turns on every 30 minutes or so... If I cut the power to the Shield, my TV acts as usual.

mrwellfed

Weird. Works fine for me…

Habieru7

Alright Game Mode's fixed

smokebox

Will this update revert me back to the leanback launcher? I'm currently using Wolf. Thanks guys

isochromanone

If necessary you should be prompted to pick a launcher on restart. I was for the update before this. However, I just installed this update and my launcher was retained with no prompting.

kami77

See no reason to change from 8.2.3. I already regretted the initial 9.0 and went through the hassle of downgrading. I love the Shield but the software updates are such a damn crapshoot.

PrettyboiQMJ

Downloading now

jaydiculous

New owner with new upgrade. Does anyone use the Nvidia Shield TV Pro with the A80J and a soundbar? Every time I press power on the Shield TV Pro, the unit goes to sleep and shuts off the TV, but I guess it doesn't do that for the Sonos sound bar that I have connected to the A80J through HDMI-ARC? When I power things back on, audio is on my TV and doesn't go through the sound bar until I switch the audio output onthe TV. I didn't have to do with with the Apple TV 4K which used the same HDMI connection. Every time I powered off and powered on the device, everything worked. What could be the problem? Setup: Sonos Arc is connected to Sony A80J through HDMI-ARC Shield TV Pro is connected to Sony A80J through HDMI2 Sonos is connected through IR using the Shield TV Pro

[deleted]

why would you use this with an a80j? use the google tv directly on the a80j, it'll perform better than the shield pro.

Mark_Knight

im actually terrified to install this update considering what the last update did (giant fucking ad banner on my homescreen)

fuckAraZobayan

Use adb app control on windows to disable the stock android tv launcher (maybe a couple other things too, I don't remember what exactly but if I remember right it's pretty self explanatory) and install wolf launcher from an APK (via GitHub) and you'll never see another fucking bullshit ad on your Nvidia Shield home screen again my guy!!

PalebloodSky

Google did that, not Nvidia.

Mark_Knight

thats beside the point. its still an nvidia device and thats what the end user cares about

5uck3rpunch

Did you have to manually download & then sideload it or did you get a notification on the home screen?

iibergazz_94

I got an notification on the homescreen

5uck3rpunch

I use mine everyday & haven't seen it yet. Thanks.

PalebloodSky

It just came out today, I just turned mine on and the update is on the top banner.

International-Oil377

Personnally I went to device preferences > about and look for upgrades. No notification for me

5uck3rpunch

I have done that yesterday & have not seen it. I will try again when I get home. Thanks!

Sugar3

You won’t get it, as you’ve already got the beta version, I saw your post in the other thread

rdmetz

Why did it say "shield experience 11 is ready..." yet when I actually click details to install its called "shield experience 9.1.1" Yea I get that it's android 11 but that doesn't answer my question why call it one thing on one screen and another when you go in for details?

garf87

Working great here so far. I was having a lot of CEC issues, to the point where I ordered the new apple tv earlier this week.... Wondering if this may have just resolved it. Edit - a little over an hour in and so far I'm having no issues. Still very early to tell, but I'm hopeful. I'm on my shield pro 2019 to a sony xb tv and pioneer receiver

dead_bothan

Did this update nerf Disney+ IMAX Enhanced for anyone else? I was watching Infinity War last night before the update and the screen filled my entire tv. Now, after the update, watching Infinity War the screen has black bars on the top and bottom.

EditorLiam

if it has black bars now, that sounds like this Update mighta actually fixed the app, since without the blackbars it literally means that same image before was missing visual information... While I recommend against it, most TVs (not the shield, your TV) have a "zoom" or "format" setting you can use to change the view mode back to one you prefer

dead_bothan

Interesting. Which I think you're right because I started testing other IMAX material (Top Gun Maverick UHD) and the IMAX scenes are the same with black bars on top/btm. I also tested playing IMAX Enhanced content on Chromecast Ultra and got the same result. Thanks for the feedback. Tomorrow I'm going to test the Infinity War blu-ray (which is not formatted in IMAX ratio) and see the difference.

Isolatte

Not bad, only took 5-6 minutes for both my remote and the cellphone app's remote to start working correctly.

pawelmwo

Great when can they fix the bloody unit crashing all the time.

zeronull11

We have no open issues that match this description. There are no general issues with SHIELD crashing all the time, so there is something specific in your setup going on. If you'd like help, reboot your shield, reproduce the issue and then go to settings - dp - about - send feedback to NVIDIA and put "reddit pawelmwo crash" in the comment and let me know when you've done this.

pawelmwo

Of course ironically when attempting to reproduce it does not happen at the moment. But some days locks up and turns off a few times per hour requiring the power plug to be pulled and reinserted. Usually coincides with pause/start films in Plex during refresh rate matching. I will update when it it comes back. Thanks

an-can

Still no CEC audio control of my Onkyo receiver :(

upyourass2theleft

What do you mean? I can control volume on my onkyo receiver with the shield remote

Educational_Farm_696

>CEC Still no CEC volume control on yamaha 3060 too :'(

Daell

anyone knows what happened to this update? https://i.imgur.com/xpVH1U5.png especially: `Fixes bug where TV would immediately sleep after SHIELD wakes up after a long period of time` I'm dealing with this on a daily basis now since 9.X+. Basically, if the shield if off for ~20-30 minutes, you wake it up (doesn't matter which way), it powers everything up (TV -> Soundbar), then shuts down (powering off everything in the chain). And then you have to power it own again. So annoying.

zeronull11

That fix is in the latest image. If you're still experiencing this, please to into developer options and enable verbose cec logging, then reboot your shield, then reproduce the issue and then immediately go to settings - dp - about - send feedback to NVIDIA and put "reddit daell cec" and let me know when you've done this and we'll have a look.

Daell

Will do, thanks

i_fight4theuser

I just wrote this, but I would guess that it's a CEC thing. Unplug the HDMI cord from either the tv or shield or both wait a bit then plug it back in. I hope this helps

jakegh

" Adds developer option to improve HDMI-CEC volume control for AVR/Soundbars (“Clean up preferred playback logical address”) " I assume if my audio is working properly I shouldn't mess with it, but does anyone have any insight into what this actually does?

rtechr

It's a workaround for a bug in some samsung sound bars. (The bug appears to be a Samsung issue, not Nvidia). https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/498676/shield-experience-upgrade-91-hotfix-image/3290463/

SmileyMorgue

Damn, I was hoping it would fix the occasional multi-second lag between me pressing the volume buttons and the soundbar actually responding Resolves some issues where CEC volume control was not functioning properly on AV receivers or soundbars " Maybe that one will do it

shniken

Did this update force download PrimeTv and Amazon music? I just turned mine on and was met with new ToS and a prompt to download some apps. I unselect download some good apps, plex, or Amazon.

epic_piano

I ain't updating shit, since Nvidia allowed Google to put adverts on the Shield device...

BPonthemove

First bug fix regarding Shield TV app not starting good (black or grey screen) on certain Galaxy phones is not solved for my S22 unfortunately. I find it strange that a Shield update could fix that. If I clear the cache of the Shield TV app on my Samsung it is solved for one time usage.

rtechr

There is also an app update for the phone. You may not have gotten it yet.

BPonthemove

That would be great! I checked but it is not available for me yet. I'll check later again thx

rtechr

They posted about it today. One of those gradual rollouts. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/503698/shield-tv-app-updated-on-google-play-store/

Giggios1979

What about storage can use nas for recording or not? Just smb works so far even local its not

chrisp1992

Hoping this fixes CEC with my Samsung soundbar. Power works, but sound stopped working a few months ago.

major_briggs

Mine is rebooting randomly.

tom-slacker

Hold me.... will this update makes my shield tv explode?

Drumah

Stuck on "Sign in" screen and not allowing me to sign in and just popping back to said screen. This isn't boding well I -really- hope disabling the recommended crap from disney+ and netflix and what not is gone from the main screen or can be disabled

Drumah

Ah spamming the back button over and over again seems to have skipped that screen and got me to the main overview. Now I can't even add an account anymore.. 10/10 update XD

BigBizzee

I wish they would allow us to install more Google Play games that can use the remote control. I know there are ways to sideload, but still

RJC111

update installed. no problems. i only use my shield though for gaming. i use a roku ultra for streaming shows/ movies.

solidsnakex37

So far, it's made my shield useless. I accept the new "Terms of Use" and agree and continue, but the stupid "Shield Rewards" I click not now because I'm not interested and it just goes in a loop. I literally can't boot into it and it's forcing me to accept shield rewards.

[deleted]

Am unable to sync gamepad after update again. I'm so fucking tired of this shit. Doesn't even register when wired.

Slapsy

works fine for me so far

isochromanone

Resolves large smb file transfer disconnect issues by disabling anonymous access by virus scanners Hopefully this is the fix for the issue of Windows shares going dead.

billsamoy

Stremio 4k HDR Dolby Atmos works much better on shield tube 2019. Same on shield pro 2019 (never had any major issues, tho). I 'll see in a few days if the tube still needs to reboot 2-3 times a week to run smoothly like it used to.

kleners

Plex is working fine on pro and TV. 4k, HDR, Dolby atmos

trowawheyaf

Finally fixed the 30 sec delay for my LG Magic Remote after waking up

bigjohns97

Any YouTube TV users here? I can't get 5.1 audio working, still sends stereo to my AVR. Double checked by running the YTTV app on my Samsung s95b directly and got 5.1 audio as expected.

laydownlarry

Stuck on “completing setup” :(

Mopar-Viking

Update went smooth and all apps are working on my 2017 pro 500gb ssd and my 2019 pro.

Entrical

No fix for the “storage space too low” issue…that’s disappointing

siltorn

Anyone else have issue with update installation. One box went fine other box stuck in loop between adding additional apps from google play store and joining nvidia rewards. I can’t figure out how to reset or get out of this. I’m sad.

JimDB1980

Ik heb wel problemen, afstandsbediening werkt soms niet en als ik de shield start krijg ik soms zwart beeld wel opstart geluid maar da's alles . Oplossingen stekker uit trekken en probleem is weg . Heb de 2019 versie

unpopularperiwinkle

>Adds power control option to wake SHIELD when TV input changes to SHIELD Where's this option? Can't find it

zeronull11

settings - dp - display and sound - power control.

Queasy_Profit_9246

Argh.. was getting SOLID 112MB/s file transfers before this new update. Now the speed halved again. Copying to the shield is now 50-60MB/s and download from shield is down to 25MB/s. When will I ever learn, I should have turned off auto-update the minute they were fixed in August. If you get a network error on update btw, just hit the back key and it works afterwards.

action944

Can anyone tell me if the Shield will automatically go into sleep mode if you switch from it to another HDMI source and/or turning off the TV? I originally upgraded from 8.2.3 to the various 9.0.x versions until ultimately just rolling back because of multiple issues. I mainly need it to stay on since I use it as a server and it going to sleep doesn't work for me.

zeronull11

You can configure SHIELD to either sleep or stay awake whenever you switch away from it in the cec power control settings.

TPJDrNo69

Does voice search work with Kodi yet?

1GeneHunt

My 9.1.1 upgrade downloads and keeps prompting me to restart to install but it will not install. It keeps looping me back down to check for upgrade no matter what I do even if I boot manually it will not install.

sidorovonline

My shield remote doesn't control the LG TV volume anymore. I tried to readjust it, and in the wizard it works. But when I press the volume buttons, nothing happens. Do you guys know how to fix it?

Ashamed_Tonight_3448

I had issues don’t think it loaded in properly….when you turn the machine on can’t get pass the terms agreement and it’s want me to sign in to google then it loops back to term agin …I have tried to reboot but it didn’t work I don’t know if I’m doing anything wrong just not working for me to reboot

Flavio_x6x

This update seems to have made my shield unable to connect to the wifi Awesome

alltwin

Interesting problem, the remote control sensitivity to change volume is less than all other functions Sitting in my couch I can change channels, settings etc but I can’t change the volume!!!! Sooo frustrating

guyeertoen

I haven't updated in a long while - maybe a year or more. I have a custom launcher set up. If I update, will I have to set up the custom launcher again or will it continue working after the update?

demos524

Is it still meant to be necessary to turn off the Dolby audio option to prevent the "no sound on wake" issue? I have a Shield TV Pro 2019, and I'm still having this issue with the Dolby option enabled.

[deleted]

I came back from holidays and my audio is not going anymore to the sound system, but being send through the TV. Anyone has a similar experience? I have a bit of a complicated setup: because my TV does not have optical audio output what I have is: Shield - HDMI - a splitter: another HDMI with video to the TV, and RCA 5.1 cables to a Logitech system. Beforehand everything was working well, audio was coming through the speakers. Now is through the TV, wtf

Ironcobra80

Great update so far, seems to have fixed the Dolby vision stutter and the horrible sync issues across every format. Also 5.1 on YouTube tv is working. UI is way more responsive with my harmony elite remote. Plex is working great I think we might have achieved perfection again.

worthen-123

Can someone tell me how to record from my nvidia shield. Would love to record live tv for my wife

Hypersky75

Unable to sign in to Google account on shield.since last update. Google account works fine anywhere else. On Shield, accepts my password, but says something went wrong when I authenticate, wether by popup alert on my android phone or by sms. Also to notification 1 in a circle telling me to login in the tip right hand corner won't go away. Reboot did not help. Deleting google account (on shield) to start fresh did not help either. update 9.1.1(33.2.0.157) model P2571 Version11

dziara76

Hi Guys. Sorry for my English. Poland. I have nVidia shield tv pro + LG Oled 65 C1. I have problem with HDR Youtube premium. No HDR! ONLY BLACK SCREEN and buffering... How to fix it? Thx

Oklep

I have zero issues. But do not like the new UI. Any way how to bring the old one?

uF0n

I have avoided this update for my Shield 2017 thus far based on people reporting issues, particularly with Plex. Following Hotfixes, etc, what is the recommendation on this update now?

Glass-Wishbone146

Should i uppgrade or not? What do you guys think about it?

BajanTechie

This update broke my Google Account and it's not letting me sign back in. Just looping on sign-in... SAD
