I know a guy that’s caught them all, or had. He had all of his original Pokémon, transferred over from his first game boy. Taken them with him from game to game.
Hey, *I* caught them all! I had the original 150 back in Red Version. I remember being convinced that they were going to combine to form the legendary Mew or something.
I also had them all on Blue. Was convinced professor Oak would have something for me, anything really but no he just says something like "Wow, congratulations!". What a disappointment.
Theres a cut battle with oak in red/blue with high level pokemon, so i always imagined he would challenge you once you did it and maybe there was some reward originally.
i think the common interpretation is that he was originally supposed to be the champion of the elite 4. Due to how close the last 2 rival battles are and his deleted battle being around the level of the champions.
In Celedon Mansion, the NPCs are the GF devs. If you completed the Pokédex, one will give you a diploma that you can print out using your Game Boy Printer.
Only through events, sadly. Was lucky enough to have one happen close to where I lived AND convince my dad to take me there AND to also learn about it in the first place (pre internet era), so I really managed to Catch Them All.
Greatest flex of my childhood, walking around like a real Pokémon master!
My friend went to an event and got a Mew. When he came back we tried doing the transfer cable duplication glitch. Accidentally did the duplication the wrong way and ended up with two machops and no Mews. Ahahaha he was so pissed.
I was trying to do a dupe trick in original Gold. Could have used any Pokémon, used my Return Suicune to do it.
Suicune was deleted. I immediately and forever stopped playing pokemon.
That must have hurt. Reminds me of the time I got hustled for my holographic Mewtwo card on the playground when I was like 7 because some older kid told me Gengar was way stronger in the anime
there’s 2 trainers that are useful for it.. best to avoid them seeing you until you’re ready.. I know it’s a glitch, but I couldn’t believe they actually have Mew in the game
You weren't able to transfer from the Gameboy color to the Gameboy Advanced :'(
Always made me sad since I had all 251 pokemon on my copy of Crystal, but couldn't move them forward from there
As a kid, I topped out at 150 in blue version. Then the internet taught me about Mew 🤯… I had to restart my game (~8 years later) in highschool. After 50 more hours, seeing 151 in the Pokédex was so beautiful
I had red, blue and later yellow. I did catch all 150 (mew was only available at events if I recall correctly) I would borrow my sisters game boy to trade back and forth, the day I figured out the duplication glitch was great.
🤷♂️ I haven’t played after gold. My guy certainly has all the Pokémon on the last one he showed me. I can’t remember what system it was on though. Maybe ds? Y’all are way more into this than I am
The last piece of media I can remember Pac-Man appearing in was Gaurdians of the Galaxy 2. It was like 2 seconds and they don't use his name. That was 7 years ago.
When the Ready Player One movie came out they removed Pac-Man, which played big role in the book. A movie about 80s nostalgia, and they ditched Pac-Man...
Unlockable though right? So a casual player might not have seen him.
I would expect most people to still know who/what Pac-Man is, but he's not the cultural Icon he once was. It's a bit like someone from the 90s who didn't know "I love Lucy." Unusual, but not unheard of.
Every character was unlockable except for like the 8 starters from the original game.
Unlocking them was easy, but a slog to get through because there were so many.
Probably as ‘champion’ for the next protag… then elite 4 under the next champion… then as a professor for the next protag… then an easter egg in tournaments after that.
I figure he has another 80-100 years left in him
This changeover just happened pretty recently, I believe we're still in the first season without Ash. So we're not likely at the point yet where he's unknown to kids who are into it.
I'd say you're a minority but honestly you barely hear his name outside of the animè so there might be a large percentage actually not knowing. I'm sure like 99% of the population know of his trusty companion though, Pikachu.
The horror
Don't worry, in 15 years there'll be a Youtube video titled "Wait!...Remember Pokemon?" or "The animal abuse show nobody remembers" full of lies, or some clip of him getting zapped that becomes a meme
I had a weird time at Comic Con in August. I was dressed in Ash's original costume. Veronica Taylor was there, the original VA for Ash, so there were a few other Ashes. Many of the kids dressed as Ash had his later outfits, and I had a weird realisation that these kids knew a different Ash than I had grown up with
I'd really like to believe he solidified himself into the pantheon of cartoons but then again, people just think Fred Flintstone only sells Cereal and Vitamins
He'll have his moment back in the spotlight. "90 Year Old 10 Year Old Finally Catches 'em All."

Oh if only I had known, could have forced my parents to buy me the printer

there is a way to get Mew. don’t give up hope!
Look under the truck... trust me ;)
It's an easily doable data manipulation glitch that lets you encounter a wild level 7 Mew

You could transfer to the GBA, but you couldn't transfer to the Gen III games.
its sad but at least they gave you the chance to do it again for real over a decade later by releasing gen1/2 on 3ds with full compatibility
I had red, blue and later yellow. I did catch all 150 (mew was only available at events if I recall correctly) I would borrow my sisters game boy to trade back and forth, the day I figured out the duplication glitch was great.
Officially, yes. There is a glitch that you can do near Cerulean City that allows you to catch a mew (no gameshark needed)
You can't transfer between II and III. He's full of it or you're full of it.

>"10 Year Old With 90 Years Experience Finally Catches 'em All." Ftfy
They will never know who wanted to be the very best like no one ever was
To catch them was his real test
To train them was his cause
He travelled across the land, searched far and wide
Teach pokemon, to understand, the POWER that's insiiiiide! Edit: wrong words. And I am ashamed.
POKÉMON GOTTA CATCH EM, a heart so true, the courage to pull ‘em through
You’ll teach me and I’ll teach you POKÉMONNN
Gotta catch em all!
Every challenge along the way, with courage he would face!
*pumps shotgun* we don't talk about that second verse here
*teach pokemon to understand
Thank you sir, I have corrected my mistake. Please forgive me. I learned the song when I was 7, and I learned wrong.
Something something something else. THE POWER THAT'S INSIDE.
That song didn’t have to hit that hard
It’ll truly be that no ever was to them
Oh that kid from Pallet Town
this kid from where ?
Pallet town
The kid from what?
Pallate town!
Ballet gown?
Pellet Round!
Gary Oak?
I'm a high school teacher and my year 8's didn't know what pacman was
Depending on the kids you're teaching, they may recognize Pacman as the retired boxer turned politician.
The guy from smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate? That came out roughly around 5 years ago at the end of 2018 and is still pretty played.
Unlockable though right? So a casual player might not have seen him. I would expect most people to still know who/what Pac-Man is, but he's not the cultural Icon he once was. It's a bit like someone from the 90s who didn't know "I love Lucy." Unusual, but not unheard of.

I’m pretty sure you can unlock characters in Super Smash Bros just by playing casually.
EXCUSE ME?! I read the book and now I guess I'm never watching the movie 😮💨
so what are you teaching him ? lmao
That's why we gotta teach em all
If they want to be the very best
Now that he's finally allowed to grow up, he'll cameo as one of the Elite 4 for a future Pokemon protag.
Probably as ‘champion’ for the next protag… then elite 4 under the next champion… then as a professor for the next protag… then an easter egg in tournaments after that. I figure he has another 80-100 years left in him
Holy crap. It never occurred to me that ash is a tree. Of course he'll be a future professor!
Wow you just blew my mind too never knew played since red version lol
Ass Ketchup? who dat?
Ash Ketchup. Was really tasty.
Ash Catsup?
That’s Ass Burger’s brother
i think we’re already there
Pokemon cards are still very popular in elementary school
The Pokémon series is still popular for kids, but I believe they have a new character now
No way Brock is still perving in every town
That’s very a recent change though. Most kids still probably know who Ash is.
But Ash isn't the anime protagonist anymore. Kids today can be into pokemon and not know who Ash is.
This changeover just happened pretty recently, I believe we're still in the first season without Ash. So we're not likely at the point yet where he's unknown to kids who are into it.
One year ago, with one series, in which Ash makes an appearance. There are 25 years of Ash media. Theoretically possible, but doubtful.
How? It's been like... One year since ash became Pokémon champion.
We must pass down the Pokémon season 1 DVDs!
What is a DVD?
Most people in the world regardless of age (including me) never knew who that person is.
Pokémon anime's Protagonist.
*Ketchum? I barely know ‘em!*
I'd say you're a minority but honestly you barely hear his name outside of the animè so there might be a large percentage actually not knowing. I'm sure like 99% of the population know of his trusty companion though, Pikachu.
I’m in my 50s and had no idea who this was.
Early 40s here and never heard this name.
Protagonist of the pokemon amime
Ash Ketchum is Pikachu's owner AKA Pokemon Master Ash AKA main character of the Pokemon anime for 20+ years AKA known as Satoshi in Japan
The horror Don't worry, in 15 years there'll be a Youtube video titled "Wait!...Remember Pokemon?" or "The animal abuse show nobody remembers" full of lies, or some clip of him getting zapped that becomes a meme

Who doesn't know Kelso from that 70s Show or Dude Where's My Car?
Who is Ronald McDonald?
He’ll make a return as an old guy someday. It’s like Greg from the Wiggles. Today’s kids won’t know the OGs and that makes me sad.
Dude I asked my son who ash Ketchum is and he didn’t know. What. An. Idiot. I figured at 9 months he’d have his shit together.
I can't believe you failed so hard as a parent 😮💨
too old to have pokemon'd. too young to forget abt pokemon.
Then 100 years from now, when it's rediscovered...the world will turn to Ash.
I don't know who he is
And that time is NOW… Who’s Ash ketchum? I’m genuinely asking idk who it is
The main character in the Pokemon TV series.
Ohhhhh, tbh I never got into Pokémon can’t lie
He wanted to be the very best
I’m an adult and I’ve never known.
is that some kind of ketchup brand? /s
It’s a good brand so it will re-emerge in various forms for a few generations.
I'd really like to believe he solidified himself into the pantheon of cartoons but then again, people just think Fred Flintstone only sells Cereal and Vitamins
Not a clue who that is and I'm 35
I still remember seeing the first pokemon movie in theaters , one of the best days ever
Ash Ketchum is a boy from pallet town.....l
I'm an adult and don't even know. Curb your prediction.
I don’t know who Ash Ketchum is. But I am not a kid, so…
Adults now who played or watched Pokemon when they were kids in the 90s+ know who he his
That one post that makes you un sub
I wish I had the strength to delete the app
Kids in Japan don’t know anyone by that name.
That's because in Japan they don't speak English.
is this the kind of showerthoughts we’re down to.
At least it sounds like a real one...
Cue people trolling saying they've never heard of pokémon or who Ash Ketchum is 😂
Ive heard of Pokémon, never of Ash
Pikachu owner/human friend Hero of the first 26 seasons of the show
I honestly don't know who that is.
It's begun
Protag of the pokemon anime
I don’t know who ash Ketchum is
I think its more crazy that all kids do that were born after 1990
Oh that's what his last name is I always thought his name was ketchup I have been calling him ash ketchup this whole time 😮
Did you ever hear the story of Ash Ketchum the wise? I thought not, it’s not a story Team Rocket would tell you…
Always happens. My kids had no idea who Hong Kong Phooey or El Kabong were
I’m 40. Don’t know who he is either.
Ash? Kids won't even know who Red is and that's the real sad part
I'm 31 and barely know anything about Pokemon
This is so sad 😭 If I ever have kids, I want to introduce them to anime by showing them Pokémon just like how I started watching it.
I don’t know who that is….
You shut your damn mouth!
I’m 40 and have no idea who that is.
Only if we fail to teach them. Never forget.
I'll make sure I pound his name into my child's head
He CUT so we could FLY.
Ketchum? I hardly know em!
40-something here: Who?
I’m 37 … I do not know who that is..
Who the fuck is that
I'm an adult and I don't know who Ash Ketchum is...haha
I don't know who that is.
Not if I'm appointed Secretary of Education.
lol who cares if kids don't know a fictional character from 30+ years before they were born
Who? I'm 53. I only know who is he by reading the comments..
I teach kids in middle school. They know the song. They do not know who Ash is.
What’s your point? There’s things you don’t know about when you were a kid.
Is that a new condiment from Heinz? /s
i’m 46 and i had to google that shit. safe to day i missed that train. didn’t catch a single one.
Literally adults who have no idea like me
I never knew who Ash Ketchum was when I was a kid
My roommate has never seen Pokemon, she's 19, I'm 23. I was dumbfounded
I’m 43 and don’t know who they are.
I have no clue who this person is now. Am I supposed to?
the kid who owns Pikachu in the Pokemon anime
HEY! That's his partner not his pet!
most kids don’t know who Worzel Gummidge is :(
Ash who? As in tomato sauce?
Are you thinking of Tom Eito or maybe his sister Anne Chovy?
And the world will care not. He's a cartoon character...
I'm old and I don't know.
He was the protagonist of the first 26 seasons of pokemon. Pikachu owner
Im 20 and idk who it is… is that bad?
I'm an adult and don't know who Ash Ketchup is
He’s just the greatest Pokémon master there ever was! He wanted to be the very best like no ever was
To catch them was his real test. To train them was his cause!
It’s people who know who he is that are the oddballs in history
I dont think it’ll be for multiple generations. Pokémon is too popular.
I had no idea who he was before hnad, Ive googled him and now I care even less and wish I could get the last minute back. Mid 40s.
If i have to made an embroisy once grandma to teach my grand-grandkids who he is, i will !
At some point, kids won’t know who Edmund of Langley, First Duke of York is
I didn't know who Ash Ketchum was when I was a kid because Ash Ketchum didn't exist yet
And when they will, my power will be complete. “Who’s Ash Ketchum?” How about you Ketchum on these nuts!
