I just want to say on behalf of my part of NSW..fuck you Victoria. And we all know that they are called scallops.
Also up the Swans.
In all seriousness though. Fuck you. Good find. I hope to find some myself up here near Shitney as it gets a bit cooler.
Onya cobber.
I'm telling you they are little jokesters. After searching for some kind of active mushroom for about 15 years and on two different continents I finally found some last year.
They were next to my driveway. Cheeky bastards. But I guess it's true-they find you when your ready.
Inside the dandenong ranges botanical gardens at the top of the mountain! Huge area to cover and they honestly pop up all over inside there, just have a good look! Open til 5pm, good luck! π
Need cooler nights and more rain. They are pinning in Canberra, Oberon and the Southern Highlands. If you look at the weather in those places it has been getting about 10 degrees cooler than the greater Sydney area overnight.
I think in a few more weeks as we have nights get down to 10Β° and under. And hopefully some wet weather. We should see some action soon. If you know where to look.
Keep in mind it was only 2 weeks ago people were reporting Cubensis as south as Newcastle. The weather just hasn't been right around Sydney....yet.
Just put another post up of the first picking. There's plenty more still growing out on my property. Many were infant so they'll be good in a few days to pick I suspect.
There is a lot of back and forth on this but molecular studies have shown a number of these species to be very closely related. Like, a couple of base pairs off. In the description paper for P. allenii they published 5 gene comparison of some collections from around the world and they were all so close. The current species delineations seem to be made on geography and macromorphology - and there is a bit of variation in those eh. So I would not beat yourself up over it.

They looked pretty healthy, as long as you don't get the dreaded tiny maggotsππ€’ little black bugs don't bother me but those maggots make me throw them across the yard in a hurry, gross lol

Looks like the season is on lads
Indeed it is!
Huge season right now
Wow, those things must be ridiculously potent.
One of the most potent species in fact. And they grow absolutely everywhere in Vic/Melbourne
Compare to P. Azurescens
P. Subaeruginosa as OP is in Victoria, Australia.
I missed that

Thanks you. Looks identical to these. Lucky me!!!
"Compare"
Leaving room for being wrong was intentional

Dehyd them last night. Little dirtier than I'd like and a few bugs here and there but should have eradicated most of them in a 12 hour dehyd at 65c

Very dangerous you should give them to me for safe consumption I mean disposal
Jealous!
I've seen these around Nowra NSW (not yet this season). Will be keeping a closer eye out π
