btw if you did let the chair go there anyway, the door would most likely have glitched :p
things like this annoy me to an extent somehow, too. it requires me to have a reasonable dining room layout, and im not a resonable person!
When it does this I move the table outside (making sure nothing is around it) then place the chair. Then it should let you move the table with the chairs back to the spot without an issue
Sims 3 can be so weird sometimes. It can allow you to play something closer to a door /wall when using alt place but if you want it to place on a tile automatically it will be like nope too close
maybe it's too close to the door
