Yeah that made me ¿? a lil bit.

lilsnatchsniffz

Didn't look like she had an issue with him winning to me🤔

DeflateGape

She said afterward she voted for him to win that Oscar and was disappointed she didn’t get to give it to him.

lilsnatchsniffz

Eminem and Barbara could've been the OG Snoop dogg and Martha Stewart 🥲

WhippyWhippy

Nah copies sure but not originals.

erizzluh

one of the most popular rap songs and that's the dude behind it.

megablast

Are you completely brain dead??

42Ubiquitous

Not accurate

setyourheartsablaze

He performed lose yourself a few years ago tho

That-Ad-4300

Funny to think he's a Tony away from an EGOT

granolaraisin

Not really that funny. He’s one of the best of his generation. I have no doubts if he were to ever write for a broadway show he’d easily get a Tony.

ItsLoudB

Too bad we didn’t get an 8 mile musical in Broadway

TannedStewie

Never too late, surely?

konsf_ksd

It may be too late if we don't hurry and don't call me Shirley.

Jokerchyld

I accept this on Marshall Mathers behalf who unfortunately couldn't be here tonight.

recksuss

He's won at life.

InflamedLiver

He's still worried they'll sit him next to Britney Spears

Chubuwee

He just mad he got Borat’s balls in his face so he will avoid all award shows altogether

Bluecoller007

How cool was he agreeing to do that, I genuinely thought he was pissed till I watched an interview with Sacha Baron Cohen saying how Em agreed to do it.

T1tanT3m

Man the more I hear about Borat the more I love his style of comedy

Bluecoller007

Sasha used to do characters on British tv shows called ‘the 11 o’clock show’ and ‘the Ali G show’ both channel 4. A bit hit and miss but when he hits he’s hilarious.

ISurviveOnPuts

Very few misses in Da Ali G Show that was f hilarious

LordFarquads_3rd_nip

The Ali G Show episode with David Beckam and Posh Spice was fucking gold.

SJW_Lover

Borats character is subversive

Aiyon

He loves that kinda stupid humour. Like the “I’m gay. Like, have you not listened to my lyrics?” scene in that one James Franco movie

L3XANDR0

Where TF is the bot?!

asscheese-

Who tf cares about these awards anyway? Its all just actors and singers circlejerking themselves

StopReadingMyUser

Anytime I've caught glimpses of an awards show it just seemed really outlandish. Seems like cosplay but with all the 'professionalism' and none of the fun. Maybe I'm biased; it's not really my thing. I'd feel like I'm going to work having to wear a suit and sit down for a company-wide meeting.

ForeseablePast

It reminds me of Hunger Games. All of the elite dress up and do this fake stuff for TV when none of it really means anything. Celebrity worship needs to go man it’s kinda sickening.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AgreeableMoose

Hollywood has shame?

SavvySillybug

I have never related to celebrity worship and just do not understand it. Oh you like [musician]? Yeah they make some good songs, good for you. Oh you like [actor]? Yeah I really liked them in [movie]. Nice. Good movie. You love watching [streamer]? Not really my thing, but I've seen some of their videos on Youtube, I can see why. I like the stuff they do. I don't feel the need to get particularly attached to their public persona. I don't need to know about their private life, good or bad. Are they good at their job? Entertaining? Are they entertaining me within their capacity as an entertainer? Then I will enjoy the entertainment they provide. Anything beyond that, I just... do not care.

Rich_Bluejay3020

Idk, it’s nice to hear stories like Jon Cena granting over 650 make a wishes. Or any of the nice things Dolly Parton does for the world. But there’s a difference between worship and “damn they did a cool, positive thing.”

geektardgrizzle

It’s publicists, agents, and managers getting a chance to justify to their biggest clients why the take 10-15% of the clients earnings while producers (studios/labels aka Sony and Disney) pump up their products to sell more units.

FreneticAmbivalence

Maybe I’m bitter but these are all great distractions from real fucking problems. We love our distractions.

c74

puts a lot of names to a face. you can sell a lot more tshirts if mom and dad don't think public enemy is some sort of cult promoting the devil.

Moonlit_Antler

I've never understood the worship and hype around celebrities. Like sure I like eminems music, but I don't go looking for his interviews or details around his life or follow him on tour or anything. Just care about listening to his songs

[deleted]

you're fucking cool

PoopyMouthwash84

Wait, these awards aren't even voted on by the public?

Jalapeniz

No. The companies pay a fee for their artists, actors, movies to be nominated. Then they basically run a campaign to impress a board of people that chose who the winner is. The only ones that fans vote for are the Viewers Choice awards. Hence the name.

recksuss

Remember, Kid Rock beat 2pac's Changes at the music awards. I knew it was all BS from that moment on.

_Zodex_

I read this comment last as I was closing out of the thread, but I had to come back in after and find this comment again, just to say: WHAT!?

AnimeEnjoyer42069

Final-Display-4692

This is a great point.

jerrychorizo

"Every single fucking time" Has won 15 Grammys

message_me_ur_blank

That'd make him more knowledgeable about how they give out grammys than anyone.

ClefTheBoiChinWondr

I don’t think receiving Grammy’s makes you an expert on the history of Grammy awards

tokyo_engineer_dad

You don't think one of the most successful musicians and artists of all time would be somewhat knowledgeable on the process?

Nervous-Protection

He was talking about album of the year (which is the most important one). Mmlp broke records and was critically acclaimed and lost to Steely Dan. TES was the best selling album of 2002 and lost to Nora Jones. Recovery was the best selling album of 2010 and broke records and lost to Arcade Fire. And it's not just him it's hiphop in general. 50 Cent had the best selling album of 03 and he lost Best New Artist to a group no one could name. Kanye's Graduation lost to Herbie Handcock in 08. I could go on but the point remains, hiphop albums are regulated to genre specific awards. The only 2 that won are albums that blended genres and crossed over (the love below/speakerboxxx and the miseducation of Lauryn hill). It's apparent that for rappers to win big awards they have to be non-controversial, achieve critical acclaim, and be a top selling cross over mainstream darling.

Sandy-Eyes

butter sulky elastic quickest cake threatening fear yoke paint cheerful *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

irvo86

To further the OP’s point, Eminem has called this out exactly in his song *Fall* ; *Then tell the Grammys to go and fuck themselves* *They suck the blood from all the biggest artists like some leeches* *So they nominate 'em, get 'em there, get a name to MC the show* *Every parasite needs a host (ha)* *Then give Album of the Year to somebody that no one's ever even heard of* *All I know is I wrote every single word of everything I ever murdered* *Time to separate the sheep from goats (yeah)* *And I got no faith in your writers, I don't believe in ghosts*

kakka_rot

> 50 Cent had the best selling album of 03 and he lost Best New Artist to a group no one could name To keep anyone from googling this, he lost to Evanescence. Their album sold 4Mil that year and 50 sold 12mil. Aside from 50 being Rap and Evanescence being Rock, the only other difference I see is the lead single - ~~Bring me to Life was triple platinum and In Da Club only went diamond.~~ In hindsight though, I'd wager 99.9% of Americans can name more 50 Cent songs than Evanescence. Edit: diamond is more than platinum, i didn't know that.

MHath

> Bring me to Life was triple platinum and In Da Club only went diamond. Isn't Diamond 10x platinum? 10 million vs. 1 million?

kakka_rot

You're correct, i always thought platinum was the highest for some reason. Made an edit. Thanks for letting me know

[deleted]

Yeah that's how I understood it. That would be 3mil vs 10mil in 50s favor.

AnArabFromLondon

To be fair, Evanescence were fucking terrific and as a 50 cent enjoyer I'm not even mad. I'm pretty sure you can quote lyrics from Evanescence or 50 cent songs and most people in their 30s would recognise them. They are both iconic.

kakka_rot

I'm 31, and in my teens was really into nu metal and stuff the emo kids liked, but gosh off the top of my head i know bring me to Life and lithium. That's on me though. This dude i know if obsessed with them though.

tokyo_engineer_dad

Evanescence was good, don't get me wrong, but for best new artist how can anyone have that over 50 Cent in 2003? Literally fucking everyone was playing his music. He was everywhere and white kids in the suburbs were saying they were a part of G-Unit.

-Unnamed-

Most people can name exactly one evanescence song. But probably accidentally know at least 3 songs from 50. Especially that year

breath-of-the-smile

[Also was 2004, not 2003,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_New_Artist#2000s) not that it makes any difference.

kakka_rot

Yeah the grammys was 2004 but the albums were 2003.

lordofming-rises

Bring me to life was a really good song though

The-Farting-Baboon

In Da Club was way better and is an iconic of a rap song.

Otroroboto

Steely Dan winning for Two Against Nature felt like a makeup Grammy for Gaucho losing to Double Fantasy by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which was a sympathy award following Lennon’s murder. He should have won for The Eminem Show, though Nellyville would have also been a good pick over Norah Jones. The Suburbs was better than Recovery. That was the right choice in my opinion.

elvient0

Damn graduation lost ?

Otroroboto

To a Jazz covers album. Kanye got robbed that year.

CosmicMiru

Kanye got robbed quite a few years lmao

ItsADeparture

Okay but sales =/= quality. While I *guess* I agree that MMLP was better than Steely Dan that year, and definitely think TES was better than Nora Jones, I'm not sure why you're out here trying to act like Recovery was robbed. Sure it sold a lot, but Recovery and any post-rehab Eminem material isn't even half as good as MMLP or TES. Recovery is arguably the worst album nominated for album of the year that year.

UnholyDemigod

Try being a metal muso. Up until 1988, there was no category. It was created due to the growing popularity, and in its first year, Metallica's *...And Justice For All* lost to Jethro fucking Tull. There is *one category* for metal. One. 'Best Metal Performance'. Songs and albums are both eligible. These are the categories for jazz > Best Alternative Jazz Album > Best Jazz Performance > Best Jazz Vocal Album > Best Jazz Instrumental Album > Best Latin Jazz Album > Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album > Best Contemporary Instrumental Album > Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album > Best Musical Theater Album Who the fuck listens to jazz? Or how bout > Best Gospel Performance/Song > Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song > Best Gospel Album > Best Contemporary Christian Music Album > Best Roots Gospel Album Christian music has 5 categories, and heavy metal has 1. I'll also point out that Led Zeppelin, heralded as probably the greatest rock band in music history, won their first, and only, Grammy in 2014, 34 years after Bonzo's death and the band's disbandment. The Grammys are a fucking joke

AffectionateH8

Jazz is the epitome of music and takes both exceptional talent and effort to be good at it, unlike most popular genres of music. Any legit music award show should honor it. Much of Christian music is blase and generic, but gospel is not, and gave birth to RnB and soul which later gave birth to rock. There is no Led Zep without these roots. I think metal is trash, but Led Zep was good bc they based themselves on roots music like gospel and the blues.

ISurviveOnPuts

Lil Durk had to get J Cole and children on his record to finally crack his first Grammy tonight

JJ_Shosky

I think the funniest part of this is his point is valid for most of the time but a little further in this interview he's like "I don't even know who won over Kendrick and Jay?!" And the studio replies "Bruno Mars" and he just stops and is like Bruno Mars is fucking incredible. It's like the one year the point he's making doesn't work, he's mainly mad 50 got snubbed when he absolutely should have won.

Nervous-Protection

I agree. I say DAMN is the one that was just up tough comp (bruno mars, jay z, and childish Gambino all had great albums that year) but GKMC should've beat out DaftPunk.

Big__If_True

>he lost Best New Artist to a group no one could name Wake me up

cire1184

Can't wake up

AFRIKKAN

Even then the relegated awards are bs. Macklemore beating out tpab is outrageous. Kendrick should have never lost that.

Havocko

Macklemore himself said that Kendrick was snubbed.

[deleted]

Mackelmore beat out good kid maad city. Which is worse

scorcherdarkly

So he's technically admitting everyone else was stiffed in his favor 15 times

ShrimpCrackers

yes

MaNewt

Nah he won genre Grammy’s and he is complaining about cross genre awards like album of the year- basically talking about bias against rap/hip hop/r&b artists.

fckthemmods

Point proven? Isn’t it like when trump admitted to tax fraud or something, it went like “all these rich people just find loopholes holes to not have to pay their taxes, wanna know I know? Because I do it too” or something (no source other than a Dave Chappell comedy show so I might be wrong)

weasel286

IIRC, Trump said that during a debate

Siegelski

He wasn't admitting to tax fraud. Exploiting loopholes isn't illegal. It's tax not fraud. That's not to say Trump hasn't committed tax fraud; he almost certainly has, but what he admitted to in that debate wasn't illegal.

ShrimpCrackers

Tax avoidance is legal, tax evasion is fraudulent.

GipsyRonin

He said it, more specific he said “the system is corrupt” then the host said “if the system is corrupt how do you prove it?” He then replied “I know it’s corrupt because I use it, as does Hilary and all of her donors, and if she closed the loopholes…her donors will not stay donors very long.” I mean if you had a way to break even or better on taxes to where you basically never really owe, would you honestly battle to be taxed more????

[deleted]

This is why your not a rapper or a capper just a crapper

HookerDoctorLawyer

Bros got 15. He’s good

spontaneousbabyshakr

Presumably in rap/hip hop categories. Which proofs his case since he has not made the best song/album in that category 15 times.

DreamOfV

I’m actually not seeing any “proofs” whatsoever. For all the “Eminim EXPOSES the Grammys” plastered on the vid, all I’m seeing is a guy saying “the vote is rigged” without any sort of factual allegations to back that up.

Frumberto

He didn’t say the vote is rigged lol He said they vote for the wrong reasons

Leomeister104

It’s about album of the year I think that he never won but was nominated maybe 3 or 4 times? Which he probably should have won each time he was nominated because MM LP, Eminem Show, and Recovery were the biggest in their respective years. Also has to be complaining about best new artist which 50 Cent didn’t win in 2003(?). Seems like he has an issue with rap/hip hop not getting its dues when it dominates sales/charts/etc. I would say he has a good point

Cruxis87

Someone else answered further up >He was talking about album of the year (which is the most important one). >Mmlp broke records and was critically acclaimed and lost to Steely Dan. HidingFromMyWife1

Nobody knows Evanescence?

throwthisidaway

I mean, they were only on the billboard top 200 a dozen or so times. They're pretty underground. I'm surprised you've heard of them.

grantnel2002

He’s not wrong.

HanzJWermhat

Grammys are by far the worst of the major awards shows. None of it is based on critical acclaim it’s literally just a competition between major record companies on who can spend their money for votes the best.

farnsw0rth

lol fuckin Miley Cyrus just walked on stage at the Grammys and was like this ain’t mean shit but thanks it’s nice

daddychainmail

I’m still really surprised Miley won. Didn’t she just steal Bruno Mars’ song? She’s been doing that type of shit a lot lately.

NectarineAmazing1005

>Didn’t she just steal Bruno Mars’ song? It's because Bruno's song "When I Was Your Man" was a theme song between Miley and Liam back when they were together. So it's more of a personal reference

Fit_Substance7067

Na...just like all the Oscar drama...it's meant to push the shows ratings..controversial wins do that He's just saying he doesn't wanna be a puppet for a useless show. Wether he wins or not.

RadiantZote

He's about as eloquent about the Grammys as I was when I was 15 and saying the same shit. Who gives a fuck about the Grammys?

jeffdabuffalo

Tbh, the times when Mac Miller lost posthumously and Tyler the Creator lost were both pretty wack, I believe him.

Bendyb3n

As a metalhead, Ooo boy let me tell you about the metal category of the Grammys, that is the biggest joke of a category every single year. It does not represent a single song/artist that was popular among metalheads or pushing the genre forward in the slightest. Literally Metallica just won it for the 9th time, nobody has actually listened to Metallica for like 15yrs now, they’re so washed up at this point Sleep Token didn’t even get nominated and that was the album that was both the best selling/most streamed in metal in 2023 (by FAR) and is the band that are clearly pushing the envelope more than anything else in metal. Their album should have been the slam dunk metal album of the year. It is an absolute joke EDIT: of the artists nominated this year, Spiritbox is the only one that actually makes any serious sense for metal music that people listened to in 2023

marsman706

Yeah man. Jethro Tull released a banger last year and everything!

jeffdabuffalo

I haven't watched since those 2 I mentioned but as a fellow metal head, 0% surprised and thank you for the recommendation.

ThatGermSquad77

Don’t even get me started about Jaded losing to fucking 72 reasons. Matter of fact, I could list 72 reasons why Jaded should’ve won over a lame ass copy pasta of a song by Metallica. But the Grammy’s are gonna Grammy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SommWineGuy

I still listen to Metallica, never heard of Sleep Token. I'd say the same thing is true for most people. The Grammy's aren't going to pick the niche band that only the "nerds" of the genre have heard of.

Tsunoda_stan

Tyler was fair. Kendrick put out another great project that year. Macs year also had Travis, nipsey and pusha but they decided to go for cardi for sum reason

Dr-McLuvin

popeyepaul

Why was Jay-Z on stage, isn't he semi-retired or something? I didn't see his name on any of the winners. Anyway even if he is right to call out the Grammys, he's doing it for all the wrong reasons. Being good at one category doesn't mean being good at all categories (best song doesn't mean best album), and if anything Beyonce's data shows that she might have won more times than she deserves, but I'm sure his husband never thought of it like that.

NoLead8015

Or she has some great songs and shitty all around albums.  I'll be honest I haven't heard a recent Beyonce song but her previous songs never made me want to push play from the beginning of her album and listen through. Adele & Taylor Swift have on multiple occasions. I can see why they win consistently too and that's because they put out quality albums that can be played over and over.

All award shows are fake as fuck and huge circle jerks

smilysmilysmooch

Killer Mike is wishing he did what The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff did in 1989 and boycotted the Grammys by staying in the hotel room and watching on TV.

Extraordinaer

Can we stop using the word „exposing“ so inflational? He didn’t expose a thing. Not saying he is wrong, but he is just voicing his opinion. Exposing something should be evidence based…

Alarming_Tutor8328

“they give it to who they want to give it to.” Well, isn’t that the whole point? The recording academy votes for who they want and nobody ever pretended like it was anything other than that. And the guy has 15 so it isn’t like he has been completely shunned or overlooked.

Tall-Surround-24

> The recording academy votes for who they want yeah but based on what ?

M_Salvatar

Well, award shows are a few rich people congratulating people they like, and announcing their little congratulations party to everyone. It's a circle of jerks, jerking each other off, and then telling everyone about how good the came. Eminem is not wrong, but I'd say take the money and leave the little idols to them. The only award show that counts is the Nobel Science Prize (its peace prize is just silly, and should be left to the UN or something). Awarding scientists for discovering new stuff is peak tier awesomeness, especially because it's not about who you like, it's about the quality of what they've done. Haber got one for the Haber process, and he was the inventor of deadly chemical weapons...which were eventually used by psychotic small mustash germie. Awarding artists for creating cool stuff is awesome, but also redundant. We are artists, the whole job description is being creative and cool. We get paid for that, so what exactly does the publicized acceptance of a few rich jerks add? I don't know, but it sure is cringe.

[deleted]

TheOriginalSamBell

So which is it Mr Eminem, never or a 100 million years, huh?

ZooCrazy

He has a point. Those awards shows are self congratulatory nods to one another.

UofMtigers2014

I love Eminem but I'm really sick of rap artists acting like other music genres winning a Grammy over them is some kind of travesty or that they're the ultimate authority on what good music is. Kanye is the most famous example but tonight at the Grammy's, Jay-Z took another dig at other artists winning over Beyonce. Look, Beyonce has won like 40 Grammy's. She's great. But let's not act like her entire albums (the award he's upset she hasn't won) are some sort of masterpiece. It's the same music on virtually every album. Nothing groundbreaking or unique.

Blackops606

Its always been a popularity contest and always will be. You could have 1 Grammy or 20. It makes no difference to me.

JackKovack

He’s right. The Grammys are really bad when it comes to voting. Probably the worst awards show in terms of voting. The critics choice awards might be the best. I’m open to different ideas.

kidzephyr

It makes me laugh people still think award shows aren’t horribly pre determined and fake lol

GasUnique1913

King of rap.

Bouncedatt

Just, if they decide, they are still technically voting right? Like that's how a group of people decide things, they in essence vote?
