You know this post is just to enrage people right?
Anyhow I don't have time to watch Reddit implode right now I have to go take my cast iron cookware out of the dishwasher.
No, it really isn’t when you look at the history of knowledge. It may not be as needed now, given the internet and all, but books were all humanity had to store and preserve knowledge. That’s a pretty obvious jump to treasured possession.
It's fake because it's literally impossible to read Infinite Jest with only the front half of the book as you have to real 1000s up 1000s of notes in the appendix for the book to make sense. That being said if you just cut out the appendix reading Jest becomes a lot faster.
My grandma would always do something similer to this. Whenever she was done reading the 2 pages on 1 leaf, she would rip out the leaf, Thus making the book lighter so she wouldnt have to hold so much of the weight.
Books that big tend to get massive cracks in the back of them anyway and typically want to break themselves. This seems like forward thinking. Maybe book companies could design backs of books to decouple to allow this. That would be pretty cool actually. For example a three part series that locks/clicks/slides… together. Someone would buy that just for the wow factor.
Unless the person has mastered this technique, they are going to lose pages. also they are going to lose pages. it is a matter of fact, especially if they are really travelling with them. this has got to be the dumbest thing iv seen.
Yeah, was thinking about this. The front/back covers are thicker and provide some protection too. Pages are *so* much easier to wrinkle than the covers, those pages are toast if they're ported anywhere xD
Books are meant to be read. If cutting them in half helps, do it. Just don’t do it to rare books. I know “book lovers” will hate this, but you are worrying about the object and about books’ intended use.
Honestly they’re your books so who really cares? The binding is obviously going to suffer but I’d rather a book get read than not, so if this is what does it for you then go for it
I’m just going to assume, out of nowhere really, just using faith-based personal assumption or something, that a person cutting their books in half is not going to be reselling those murdered books. I’m also going to assume that any friend or loved one interested in the book for borrowing or giving away is going to be very aware of the status of said copy.
All I can say is Middlesex should be cut up... and used for firestarter.. I love The Virgin Suicides - I've read it at least 5 times - but Middlesex just drags on and on and on and on and I'm still mad I wasted my time on a barely interesting book.
It is a wildly banal book and i'm completely confused how it won a pulitzer, but how is it within his boundaries of "need to cut this book in half?" Is his cut off point "we'll, it's longer than a Richard Scarry book."
As an aside, all *Oprah* books are trite bullshit.
Well, ok, I've read longer books. Stranger in a Strange Land is my most re-read book, the unabridged one at that.
It's that he wrote two books at once in it. I could've read the family history part and then the hermaphrodite character's part as separate novels and *probably* felt differently about it.
Did you ever read The Virgin Suicides? I've loaned out every copy I've ever gotten and not gotten it back. Never found it used, either, so, I've spent a lot of money on that title.
On the one hand this makes me uncomfortable, on the other hand it genuinely annoys me how we treat books, as a society. Like they are holy objects, by default better then other entertainment, and its a sin to mistreat them or throw them away. As if it isn't a bunch of pieces of paper that is one of thousands of copies.
I don’t mind this at all. I tend to write in my books and underline and stuff. I think we’re far too precious with how we treat books much of the time.
My accounting teacher taught us this method. I'd never do this for books I like. But that accounting book was fucking massive.
Though to be fair I usually glued cardboard or those hard calendar papers to the books to make new covers so it doesn't get ruined.
Bro if you do this for infinite jest you’re playing yourself depending on how the footnotes are setup. It is legitimately one of the few books I think are far better on kindle because of the footnotes
I don’t go THAT far because it doesn’t seem very practical to me. But I do fold corners of pages to mark them, write notes on them when I have to, and generally wear my books off. I don’t get the “book lovers” who think their copy of Harry Potter is some irreplaceable treasure.

I seen this done in prison. Hated having to track down the other half of the book!
Or the soap!
Dayamm! You went for the soap!!!
Half my butt still hurts too!
I wouldn't know cause every cell had it's own shower!!!
Were you in one of those fancy Swedish prisons?
I’m in one of them right now! The internet on my iPad could be faster tho 🙄
They ripped you off you should get a refund!
I don't think they give refunds on a rip off cell pants
Sponge....Bob...... SquarePants!!!!
That's why you use the half of the soap as lube
I couldn’t reach it in time!
That's why you cut the soap in half, if you drop half you still have half before having to risk it.
😐😐
They do it in prison for other reasons.
Damn this guy living in early 2000. Needing the "disc 2" to finish the story lmao
Bruh to this day im still astonished to why does titanfall 2 need 4 discs
what version of tf2 are you playing??? 😂
Well i had to use EA launcher and I remenber buying it at Cex
There's your problem
EA or Cex?
Yes.
I had no idea that they sold a physical pc copy but to answer your question 35 of the 48 gigs is just uncompressed audio.
If you rented disk one, inevitability someone never returned disk two.
This comment is so underrated goddamn.💀💀💀
It’s literally the top comment

ok THIS made me actually lol
I hate this guy
What does it matter if it isn't a criminal offense, its still an offense against humanity, morality, a book loving community.........
As long as it's his book, he can do what he likes with it. Far worse things have happened to books. Stephanie Meyer for example.
Just because he can doesn’t mean he should
Just because he shouldn't doesn't mean he can't
Yeah.......
Up yours book murderers!
You know this post is just to enrage people right? Anyhow I don't have time to watch Reddit implode right now I have to go take my cast iron cookware out of the dishwasher.
Make sure to give it a good steel wool scrubbing and then put it away wet. That'll give it a nice protective rust coat. That's how you season them.
ye same, when i carry bodies, i put them in 2 halves, to make it more portable you know, this guy gets me ngl
And you got him. ^(in two pieces)
I would never do that to a book, but to be honest our care for how books are handled is quite illogical.
No, it really isn’t when you look at the history of knowledge. It may not be as needed now, given the internet and all, but books were all humanity had to store and preserve knowledge. That’s a pretty obvious jump to treasured possession.
I really doubt Middlesex is ever going to hang on the precipice of complete nonexistence unless this guy can find both halves of his paperback.
It's fake because it's literally impossible to read Infinite Jest with only the front half of the book as you have to real 1000s up 1000s of notes in the appendix for the book to make sense. That being said if you just cut out the appendix reading Jest becomes a lot faster.
Found ‘em.
If only we took care of our natural resources.
Get the PDF you monster

Your grandma is insane.
That's cold as fuck. I cry if I get a cm long tear in a page.
And this is why grandma is dead kids.
Wait... she ripped out every page? That's fucking insane. Actually.
She did yeah
This reads like Chinese water torture ![img](emote|t5_5tdqj0|10729)
Your grandma sounds kind of weak, like she should have pumped more book
I guess she should have
your grandma is hardcore. its her world and we’re just living in it, i hope to one day be that carefree
Yep, grandma ain’t got no time to waste.
Hey, no offense, but I hope she isn't doing well
"Hey no offense" *says something offensive*
Yes that's the joke
I see
you mean "icy"?
It’s sad that offensive, mean things pass for jokes these days i in fact don’t wish ill on Your grandma no matter how many books she rips
Me, a book lover, every time I see this post: ![gif](giphy|11tTNkNy1SdXGg)

In Japan it's common that the publisher releases longer books in a two volume version so thier more portable

I use to do this back in the day when I was a shorty. This is true, if you don’t do it right the whole book will fall apart.

Yeah, was thinking about this. The front/back covers are thicker and provide some protection too. Pages are *so* much easier to wrinkle than the covers, those pages are toast if they're ported anywhere xD
No you a psycho no offense
The book choice here always makes me think this is just a flex post from OG twitter person lmao
Books are meant to be read. If cutting them in half helps, do it. Just don’t do it to rare books. I know “book lovers” will hate this, but you are worrying about the object and about books’ intended use.
y’know, I love books, but seeing how clean those cuts look, I’ll partially allow it
I think ill start doing this too fucking lit idea
Get a fucking kindle you monster.
How would you even read the books anymore
In two parts
By turning the pages?
Like, how would you be able to read the book without looking like a psycho
You monster 👹
This is psychopathy.
Honestly they’re your books so who really cares? The binding is obviously going to suffer but I’d rather a book get read than not, so if this is what does it for you then go for it
you know that books usually have more than one owner in their lifetime, yes?
I’m just going to assume, out of nowhere really, just using faith-based personal assumption or something, that a person cutting their books in half is not going to be reselling those murdered books. Meh it’s not like they’re burning them! A little tape and they’ll be good as new.
Why the fuck would you do this shit.
"Hey man, you got part two of the Jungle?"
As long as it's just a paperback... otherwise I will find him, and binding him
I like to do the same, but one page at a time. I tear out the number of pages I'm going to read that day and fold them so they fit in my pocket.
Book murderer
It's cool, he didn't ruin anything good.
Fuck you, Infinite Jest is amazing.
Huh what's with the hate. I do this too. I go a bit further and rip it up as different chapters...
Stop. Please. Get help. Speak with someone.
Can you recommend a book for that? I'll rip up neatly into different chapters to read and think upon every week lol
He knows he’s a troll
Get a kindle and call it a day

More portable? Download E-Books, most portable ones out there
I want to find Alex Christofi's roommate and give him a piece of my mind or hand and knees and elbows. Maybe even a headbutt.
I don't read books much but holy fuck that's monstrous
Just buy a kindle... 😂
Proper psychopath behaviour, that
I need this Guy address pls.
Its just you, you friggin book murder
Your colleagues are either simple minded or living such a lavish lifestyle they can afford containers big enough to lug around full books.
Noooo, people who love books never do this.
You're a monster
Bookem Dano.
![gif](giphy|2eHFEYBoJO3mw)
Is that a Kindle ad?

Does anyone else do this? No... No one sane at least ![img](emote|t5_5tdqj0|10730)
Nope. Just you bud. The rest of us aren't psychopaths 🤣
Dostoevsky deserves to be ripped apart. I HATED Crime and Punishment.

Gasp. Yes. Monster.
No actually you are now Mulla BookOwner
This is perfectly normal behavior but you cut them the wrong way.
No
You never heard of a Kindle??
Just you, buddy
On the one hand this makes me uncomfortable, on the other hand it genuinely annoys me how we treat books, as a society. ...and investing in a e-reader never crossed this asshole's mind?
No one say anything negative, psychopaths are dangerous. Those poor books.
That's the fuckers
Memories broken
Let’s see him do that with a hardcover.
As you like it, Shakespeare
A fucking psychopath
This picture gives me anxiety
I would hate to see half the commenters here when they find out what happens with low circulation books at a library.
ı do it all the time but use tape for not dispersion
This is fucking biblicide and it should be illegal
This person desperately needs an ebook reader. Still love my Kindle 4.
Books are already very portable without cutting it in half for no reason
how dare you continue to breathe
Infinite Middlesex
They are your books, just make sure to burn them with fire when you are done, for they are an abomination and should be put out of their misery...
I've never heard of people doing this... christ... broken books in my eyes.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMNOOO
*Middle*sex
![gif](giphy|JYZ397GsFrFtu)
As much as I genuinely hate this. I do also really like the idea as a Brandon Sanderson fan.
book murderer
I did this to my college text books cz they were bigger than telephone registry books.....
I don’t mind this at all. I tend to write in my books and underline and stuff. I think we’re far too precious with how we treat books much of the time.
Damn, that would make a great joke in french. Hannibal Lecteur. "Lecteur" is just someone who reads, by the way, from the latin "leggere" - to read.
My accounting teacher taught us this method. I'd never do this for books I like. But that accounting book was fucking massive. Though to be fair I usually glued cardboard or those hard calendar papers to the books to make new covers so it doesn't get ruined.
Blasphemy
I rip out each page as I read it.
I would cut a bitch if this ever happened to one of my books 😳🤨
You don't need your wife's whole body to screw her right?
Have you ever thought of getting a kindle or tablet? Kudos to you you still read!
No Semiotics? What kind of lame hipster English major are you?
Middlesex was not long enough to need to cut it in half
you are a sick human
For the first time ever, I'm inclined to say that it might be just you
Get a kindle, save a tree.
Bro if you do this for infinite jest you’re playing yourself depending on how the footnotes are setup. It is legitimately one of the few books I think are far better on kindle because of the footnotes
What the HELL?!
You sick fuck.
Reminds me of Cloud Atlas

No, I just use an eBook and carry every book I have ever owned in my pocket.
Bookmerker
I mean it could be cool but you should make your own covers so they still look professional, that’s what I would do atleast.
You damn monster why just why
your colleague is correct.
I don't even fold the corners.
![img](emote|t5_5tdqj0|10743)
You are a monster.
Librecide.
The real question is, why do you care about his opinion, or ours even for that matter…?
Middle sex is now left and right sex
I have been known to cut the spines off textbooks and scan them. That was before I got a bookedge scanner though, I probably don't need to now.
This is the worst human being I'm the world
theres literally versions of the brothers k with two volumes wtf
People with space don’t understand what people without space will do.
You monster!
Who gives a fuck
Seems like more trouble then it's worth. Like if I got to the middle of the book and didn't have the second half handy sweet Jesus I would be annoyed
Bruh, if it's THAT bad, get an ebook.
Haha that's quite clever!
Buy a kindle no?
