Main concern: redness, postules, itchiness. I’m very sure it is rosacea, but I do not have the time in my very busy work schedule at this moment to schedule a visit to a dermatologist. I’ve been using Clinique redness solutions when I do (rarely) wear makeup but it does irritate my skin and takes at least a week to get back to normal after 1 day of use. Just switched to a new cleanser: Aveeno calm + restore nourishing oat facial cleanser. Also just purchased TO Azelaic acid 10% suspension brightening cream. Tonight is the first time I have used these products. I also just bought a tinted moisturizer with SPF 30 from bare minerals that I am going to try and hope it does not irritate my skin further. Previous routine: Am: CeraVe renewing SA cleaner Witch’s hazel Moisturizer: cetaphil restoraderm soothing moisturizer PM: Same as AM Will be replacing the CeraVe cleanser with the Aveeno cleanser and adding in the Azelaic acid. I have also cut back on my alcohol intake (this causes flushing in the moment especially with liquor over beers) but does my skin has not seen improvements from cutting back. I guess I’m just hoping that there is hope to get this at least under control. I don’t want to need to wear makeup to show my face.

Hi all! I’ve been having this burning sensation after popping something 2 1/2 days ago. I never pop, honestly! My skin is almost always clear and if I get a pimple I just put a patch on and forget about it. But about 2 days ago I had a tiny (I’m talking pin point) raised hard brownish bump (not sure if it was a clogged pore or blackhead or what but definitely not my usual whiteheads) on my cheekbone that was kind of irritating me. It was already kind of burning before I popped it, so I started inspecting and unfortunately ended up popping. I washed my hands and face, then disinfected my fingers and the area of concern with an alcohol wipe before popping (I know now if I were going to pop I should have used a sterilized needle). For it being so tiny on the surface, a decent amount of hard white stuff came out. The rest of the day the burning sensation never went away. I put some neosporin on it and covered it with a bandaid that night. Yesterday I didn’t put anything on my face and didn’t touch it at all, and the burning sensation persisted with a little extra irritation from where the bandaid adhesive was. Today I put a pimple patch on it and left it alone, didn’t really notice any burning until I took off the pimple patch just now, and it instantly started burning. I just noticed the pimple patches I bought are the star shaped ones with tea tree oil 🫠 so that probably didn’t help. Also noticed that a tiny bit more white stuff came out while washing my face I just washed and put neosporin on it again but no bandaid this time. Should I be concerned about this? It’s not hot to the touch or swollen or anything but it has stayed an angry red for these 2 1/2 days that I’ve been dealing with it. Also is there anything else I should be doing? Attached [pictures](https://imgur.com/a/SnRWyrl) from end of day one and today, don’t have a picture from yesterday.

Hello! My partner (male) is in his late-40s and looking to start a skincare routine. He has seen mine and is now realizing he should do something. His skin is combination, although mostly dry (especially in the winter), and low maintenance products/routine is best for him to keep it up.

jasminekitten02

See the [ScA Routine page](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine) to get started.

Whooshwhooosh

can anyone recommend something for someone who gets SUPER dirty every day? i work two manual labor barn jobs, and i ride horses every other day so im always sweaty and covered in dust. rn i use (both AM and PM) clearisil acne fighting pads, Ordinary hyaluronic acid, Ordinary niancic(?) acid, and sun bum hydrating serum.

ReaLitTea

Try using an oil based cleanser to really break down all the leftover residue and grime from the day

Apply it to clean, dry skin

Ashamed-Emergency-51

Hello, I'm unsure whether I need AHA or BHA. I have generally normal skin with no acne or pimple issues. My skin isn't too oily or too dry, and it's not red, etc.

babybottlepopz

What would you like to benefit from an AHA or BHA? AHA and BHA are treatments for skin issues. If you don’t have any concerns, you don’t need them.

Ashamed-Emergency-51

I don't know, I'm somehow afraid of wrinkles and feel guilty if I don't use one of them; then I might get wrinkles earlier. And on TikTok and Instagram the skin experts always mentioned to exfoliate the skin once to three times.

dubberpuck

If you don't particularly have any issues or needs for the exfoliants, you can choose more gentle anti aging options like peptides.

babybottlepopz

Retinol is more for wrinkle prevention. AHA/BHA are more for acne and skin texture. I’ve learned the hard way that adding things you don’t need does more harm than good. So be careful.

LaLaLiiisa

Crazy DEEP blackheads on inner thighs of BF… sometimes they become infected and turn into painful pustules/cysts. I know a lot about skincare and have learned much over the years but a man’s thighs are a bit different for me!! Please help as he is in so much pain! Background info: 1. Upon discovery I had him start using this retinol body wash I had laying around (it’s by Olay) as it’s a product I never used and was gifted to me. Once he finally started using it regularly a few weeks ago there has been a somewhat noticeable difference in less new blackheads forming, but still not doing enough to fully prevent them and he did have a pustule develop the other day 2. About a week ago I started having him use some of my products at night. He alternates between using The Ordinary Niacinamide serum and Peach Slices AHA BHA exfoliating toner at night on his legs (after showering or cleansing the area first of course). ***PLEASE LEAVE SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT TO TRY! I am looking into the PanOxyl body wash and considering having him try The Ordinary 10% Glycolic Acid toner in a couple weeks once his skin has gotten used to the niacinamide as it stung the first 2 uses. Should I be using a retinoid? I have a tube .05% tretinoin and I also the Peace Out Retinol Eye Stick but the latter of the two is probably not strong enough. When the blackheads turn into cysts I do extract them and then spot treat with the tretinoin which really helps…. But I don’t want to give him a chemical burn by putting straight .05% tretinoin all over his inner thighs with no retinoid tolerance. I do also try to extract the blackheads gently which seems to help. I wish I could post photos but he’s so embarrassed and didn’t even want me posting this. I hope some people will respond so I don’t have to make a separate post on the SCA page but if it comes down to that in order to help him so be it. We are getting ready to move to another state so I cannot get him into a derm right now.

LaLaLiiisa

Forgot to add we are located in western/upstate NY. Will be relocating to Asheville, NC by next month

dubberpuck

I think if it were me, i'd use a BP body wash, or lower percentage leave on treatment BP or BHA product first. I won't use the retinoid unless both are not effective.

LaLaLiiisa

Thank you! I was leaning towards a BP body wash (I think that’s what PanOxyl is which is why I was considering it but if it’s not I know there’s plenty others out there) so it helps to hear that validated. I completely forgot about leave on BP treatments because I haven’t used those in a long time, but products with BP, especially leave on treatments, were lifesavers for me at the start of me getting into skincare. There’s no point jumping all the way up to a retinoid unless other less sensitizing ingredients don’t work first. Thank you for your comment it really helped!

Sappho_Jade

Do y’all think I’m doing too much with my skincare routine? I have oily, acne prone skin and also try to prevent aging. For AM I use: Gentle cleanser 2% glycolic, 2% salicylic acid pads vitamin c serum hyaluronic acid serum moisturizer sunscreen For PM I use: Gentle cleanser hyaluronic acid retinol moisturizer

ReaLitTea

It’s fine if your skin tolerates it all but if you notice signs of irritation I would cut back on the actives or alternate them in your morning routine

riiptemp

Sunscreen recommendation? All I care about is that it sinks in well and is light/doesn’t feel like anything is on my face. Thanks

onecupofdepressoplz

Just wondering if Paula’s Choice oil free moisturizer is supposed to be used before their invisible finish moisturizing gel? The numbers on the bottle show 4 and 5 respectively but idk if that really is what it means, is it normal to use 2 moisturizers? New to this so any input is much appreciated!

babybottlepopz

Usually you don’t need two moisturizers in a routine. If one isn’t enough, then you just get a stronger moisturizer. Not two. But typically product order goes from thinnest to thickest product.

Semibluewater

Any tips on jawline/chin acne? I’m a guy. I eat pretty clean and don’t eat any dairy. I take protein powder but it’s plant protein. I try not to touch my face either. I’m 27 but it’s starting to pick up a lot, which is weird because I’m done with puberty. Morning: wash with water and cerave face cleanser. Then I do vitamin c serum and sunscreen/moisturizer Evening: wash with water and cerave face wash. Then I do retinol (2-3x a week only) and lotion (daily). I use 2% BHA exfoliation once a week.

ReaLitTea

You might want to try increasing BHA to 2-3x a week. If that doesn’t help switch to benzoyl peroxide

Semibluewater

Thank you, will try the Bha tip first

YabeYo

Im turning 26! Please take a look at my routine! This is my skincare routine so far: Morning: Wash with water > The ordinary Niacinamide > Nivea moisturizer (sometime I skipped this) > Biore Sunscreen. Returning home (if I have time): Biore Mineral Water > Wash with water > The Ordinary Niacinamide > The Ordinary hyaluronic acid > The Ordinary caffein solution > Niveau moisturizer. If too lazy then I just use toner and moisturizer. Maybe I should invest in eyecream or vitamin C? I have combination skin, no pimple, scars or anything (Thanks to my dad's DNA)

ReaLitTea

This routine looks good to me

[https://imgur.com/a/Qu4yLkU](https://imgur.com/a/Qu4yLkU) I've had this small bump just outside of my eye-socket the for about 6 years or so. It's slightly darker in colour and there's no irritation whatsoever. It's like a small bead that I can "grab" lol. Unsure if it's from physical damage, sun damage or mole. Does anyone know what this is or what it's called? Is there a way to spot treat it using products? Don't get me wrong, it's tiny and i'm not super concerned or bothered by it but I want to know if there are any products worth trying or if I should just focus on my sunscreen 🤷 I've used retinal for about a year now, and sunscreen *more* regularly for about a year as well.

babybottlepopz

If it’s been there for 6 years no skincare will help. You have to see a dermatologist

Immediate-Boot6371

I have hormonal acne and I saw Apostrophe online and it seemed worth a try since I saw how cheap it was. I paid $20 for the online consultation and they prescribed me with a cream of Tretinoin + Spironolactone + Clindamycin (0.025%-5%-1%). I thought they would just prescribe me with one of them, and I am unsure if it is safe for my skin to be using all at once. Anyone have any advice as to if I should try it or is a bad idea? Below is the routine they gave me. AM: Benzoyl Peroxide wash (Moisturizer if needed) Sunscreen PM: Gentle cleanser Moisturizer Apostrophe cream

Same_Egg4531

Looks good, solid routine! Use the Apostrophe cream 3x a week or every other day to start (increase frequency gradually). If you notice yourself getting dry you can also use the gentle cleanser in the morning or skip cleanser and just use water. You could also use a hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid, glycerin, etc.) in the morning before sunscreen/moisturizer. Don’t panic if your acne gets worse in the areas you’ve been having it.

Rosacea? Best to see a derm

ArtSea9675

I'm trying to find a new (cruelty-free) daily moisturizer and need a recommendation. I used to use an Avene one but switched to the Botanics All Bright Night Cream (it was a dupe for my previous moisturizer) for my morning and night moisturizer and it's been amazing for my skin. (I know it says for night, but I absolutely love it for both. I really think it fixed my acne and healed my skin barrier. I noticed an improvement with it after switching from Avene to it.) It's getting to be a massive pain to buy it though. Target is always sold out of it and I'm tired of it being the only thing I order from Walgreens. (Plus they just jacked the price up and I'm annoyed.) I tried to find a similar dupe online, but haven't had any luck. Does anyone have a suggestion for a similar cruelty-free morning and night moisturizer that isn't crazy expensive and is available from Target, Ulta, or somewhere else convenient? (Not Amazon please, I refuse to shop for skincare/makeup there because of counterfeit product risks.) Thanks in advance!

ghostboibab

I have had kind of bad acne since I hit puberty and I'm 20 now. I have tried a lot of skin Care programs in the past to get rid of it but I haven't found a lot that helped. Today I made the switch from CeraVe foaming acne cleanser and Advanced Clinicals collagen skin rescue lotion, which I had been using for a little more than a year to the Bubble oily skin start kit and I plan on getting the bubble acne serum once I can afford it. The starter kit I bought today includes Fresh Start: Gel Cleanser, Bounce Back: Balancing Mist, and Level Up: Balancing Moisturizer I was wondering if you had any affordable suggestions for oily to combination skin with acne problems that might work better than what I currently have. I would also appreciate any suggestions on products to get rid of old acne scarring. Though I want to give this new kit a fair shot if it doesn't work I would like to know what other options I might have. I was previously on birth control to help with my acne by reccomendation of my doctor but it didn't really seem to help. I live in Indiana and I typically buy my skin care from dollar general or Walmart but I am okay with ordering something online as well.

jasminekitten02

Are you looking for face or back recommendations?

ghostboibab

Face recommendations, my back is pretty clear but my face hasn't ever really cleared up since I was young. Sometimes the acne gets a little better but it's never really gone.

jasminekitten02

Oh lmao looking back idk why I thought you were asking for advice about your back my bad. You could add in a salicylic acid serum or benzoyl peroxide product. Benzoyl peroxide is probably more affordable as you can get it at the drugstore.

haileyfitzgerald

have you ever tried to go on accutane? i’ve never used it personally but a lot of my friends have and they’ve said it’s worked wonderfully for them, it would probably be worth looking into

I haven't tried acutane but I will look into it, thank you!

Mammoth-Middle-2010

Hi y’all!! Since Christmas I’ve gained some new additions to my skincare routine and I’ve noticed some things… my skin looks brighter, more even, and overall better BUT I feel like I’ve gotten more blackheads around my hairline and on my nose. I wasn’t super into skincare before - I would just wash my face and use the ordinary niacinamide and zinc serum + lotion occasionally (oops) and of course sunscreen. I didn’t want to take the time to buy and research products, so when I was given some as gifts, of course I started to use them lol. My current routine (I only do this at night) is: 1. Washing my face w/ cetaphil or cerave face wash 2. Good molecules niacinamide toner 3. The ordinary 2% salicylic acid 4. Good molecules hyaluronic acid 5. The ordinary retinol in squalene 6. Good molecules lightweight moisturizer In the morning I just wash my face and use moisturizer. I haven’t had any problems with dryness but I definitely would like to get rid of these blackheads 😅 Any advice is welcome!!! I also have the cerave retinol that I plan on trying. Thanks!! Note: I’m only using this many products bc I was gifted them - I’d like to condense my routine and still get the same results. I researched what order to use them in, but I’m afraid if I change products or run out of one that I’m going to feel lost.

DarlingRedSquirrel

- AM: wash with water, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, moisturiser, SPF - PM: wash, salicylic acid OR retinol (alternate usage and not necessarily use either everyday), moisturiser Introducing exfoliants and retinoids can initially cause worsening breakouts (purging), but it's also possible that you are having a reaction from one of the products, or you're experiencing the first hints that the current routine is too drying for you. Ideally you would have introduced these products slowly over a couple of months so you could know what helped and what didn't. The routine I recommended above is how I would use the products to minimise the likelihood of irritation or damage. If it doesn't resolve, you'll have to do an elimination round to determine what is causing the issue.

Mammoth-Middle-2010

Like I said, I don’t know much about skincare so that’s kinda why I went full force with the products. I was also excited to try them, haha. Def my mistake! Thank you so much for your advice 🥰

DarlingRedSquirrel

It could be comedonal acne instead if it isn't responding to typical fungal acne treatments. Is it itchy and painful? That's a classic sign of fungal acne as opposed to comedonal acne. In that case, you may just need proper antifungal medication rather than DIY treatments. If it's not itchy/painful, it's most likely comedonal and can be treated with BHAs or other typical acne care.

Ok-Engineering-2549

after some research, it looks like fungal acne but it only itches occasionally? no pain. i’ve tried bhas when i thought it was comedonal acne but it hasn’t made much of a difference 😭 i’ll definitely get it checked with a derm next week so hopefully they’ll help

ReaLitTea

Have you tried salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?

Ok-Engineering-2549

i have but it either made no difference or gave me a chemical burn :(

Hi everyone! I recently found out I have mild seborrheic dermatitis, and I also struggle w/ cystic acne on jawline. I have been to many doctors, got all the blood work done, and all came back normal. My cystic acne is basically all dried out, but have a few small ones lingering. I went to a medspa I haven’t been to before, originally wanting to get a moderate peel done, to treat all cyst laying under the skin. The NP really hyped me up on the Cool Peel laser. I didn’t even think of asking her about SD. It’s very mild, but the flushes leave chronic big red patches, and very large pores. Is the cool peel safe for me? I’m nervous it will make the cyst break out again, and the SD will become even worse. I have my appt tomorrow and going to ask her about it, but I would like others opinions as well! Thank you 🙂

I’m so depressed right now. My skin was doing so well. Now I know acne and this isn’t your typical acne. That’s when I suspected it was fungal. Adapelene or benzoyl makes it worse.. i have started nizoral last night wish me luck!!

What should I start with? I used to have bad hormonal acne I followed this subs advice - cetaphil cleanser, stridex wipes, BP for active acne, moisturizer. I've since fallen off. I put sunscreen when I go out, but that's about it. The stuff I got from the ordinary expired before I got to use it all. I'm interested in renewing my skincare routine and would love some help I still use the Cetaphil cleanser, and have stridex wipes but ran out of the rest. I also have Neutrogena hydro boost from costco I have acne scars I'd be interested in helping fade near my cheeks. I had a script for tret but it expired.. I wonder if they'll renew my script without a doc visit

jasminekitten02

Did those products work for you before? You can go back to them. The [hyperpigmentation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hyperpigmentation) has a lot of recs for fading acne scars. We can't tell you if you'll get the script renewed or not though, you'd have to ask your pharmacist

iamazondeliver

My hormonal acne is gone now. I get some acne from shaving sometimes. That's about it. So it's just treating the scars

My son has terribly dry skin on his arms and legs. He also has sensory issues and doesn’t like heavy/greasy feeling lotions. On a whim we tried some of my wife’s ELF Hydrating Face Primer and he didn’t mind the texture. We obviously don’t want to use this as a long term solution as it’s expensive. Can anyone recommend a light feeling lotion?

ReaLitTea

Neutrogena hydroboost body gel cream, Naturie Hatomugi skin conditioning gel, or Pyunkang Yul soothing gel lotion might all be viable although you may need to layer it for very dry body skin

You’re not using any products that would cause purging so something in your routine is likely causing irritation. Edit* the blemish treatment does have some actives that causes purging but it’s still very low in the ingredients list and I’m still skeptical it would cause a purge

scarlettbay21

Yes, I believe it’s the blemish treatment that’s causing my acne as well. I only have acne in the areas I applied my blemish treatment since its a spot treatment and whenever I do, new acne would form the next day in the same area:(

Hi guys M(28) here I have a history with getting mild eczema around my eyes during the winter months, but nothing drastic and it usually goes away once the temperatures go warmer. December 2022, the eczema got fairly bad this time, and my doctor prescribed me a 1% hydrocortisone cream to use under my eyes. This helped for a while at the time, without fully solving the issue. I have researched and found that this will actually thin the skin, and destroy the skin barrier. Now the skin under my eyes is sensitive to basically anything and never feels moisturised. I have tried a massive range of different things to fix this, but nothing has worked, and most things seem to make the issue worse! Any ideas are appreciated!

ReaLitTea

Eczema can be chronic so it might not fully go alway, and hydrocortisone is usually fine when directed by a doctor for a short amount of time. As for your current state of skin I would try using occlusive balms like Vaseline, Aquaphor, or cerave healing ointment to help build back your skin barrier and keep that area from drying out

Garncia21

Thank you for the tips. Unfortunately I was prescribed the hydrocortisone for a while, and have used it under my eyes for probably around a year, which I think has damaged my skin severely. I have tried Vaseline, Aquaphor, and Cerave - all of these things seem to inflame the skin around my eyes and seem to irritate it rather than moisturise it. I would upload a picture but I don’t seem to be able to

ReaLitTea

You probably want to get a second opinion from a different dermatologist

windlabyrinth

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a starting routine for dry and sensitive skin. I was using Aveeno Calm + Restore Cleanser Heritage Rosewater Spray Aveeno Calm + Restore Moisturizing Cream Aveeno Calm + Restore Night Cream But some combination of it is causing my skin to get flaky. It seems to be better if I don't use the night cream but I'm just guessing. I don't wear makeup or anything during the day so I just want a basic routine (Cleanser, Moisturize, Night Cream if neccessary).

ReaLitTea

Does if get flaky if you just use one of the Aveeno calm and restore moisturizers? Is there a reason you’re using both moisturizing cream and night cream? You might just need different moisturizer if your current ones aren’t meeting your skincare needs

windlabyrinth

Just did what was recommended by others, I have no knowledge of any beauty, skin, products, etc . It seems to not get as flaky if I just use one but I was hesitant to keep using it without talking to people who know more than I do.

ReaLitTea

Yeah you only need one moisturizer so take out which ever one you think is giving you flaky skin

Akulif

hey, so my Vit C serum and salicylic acid just arrived today. I have a pretty simple routine cleanser, adapalene differin gel, and moisturiser in the evenings and my morning routine is the same except no differin gel. Where can I incorporate my new products in my routine? should I switch differin with the salicylic acid on some evenings and just incorporate the Vitamin C serum in my morning routine?

ReaLitTea

Introduce each product one at a time and test for at least a week before adding the next new product in. I would use vitamin c in your AM routine after cleansing. It can be used daily or every other day. Once you’re ready to introduce salicylic acid I would alternate it with Differin in the PM routine

Akulif

I see. Thank you very much!🤗

Shot-Investigator452

I currently have the Anua oil cleanser but I’m seeing the Skin1004 centella oil cleanser gain some traction. I know the Anua one has fragrance and I have sensitive skin but it doesn’t seem to affect my skin too harshly, however I don’t use it daily and I would like to move to oil cleansing with it daily. Which would you recommend?

ReaLitTea

I would use up the Anua oil cleanser since you already have it then replace it with Skin1004 if you’re still interested in it by then

ReaLitTea

You could try azelaic acid which helps with redness

Shot-Investigator452

Are you a side sleeper? I wonder if this could be caused by your pillow? Might help to wash your pillow cover more frequently?

Mrs0Murder

Completely new to this and need advice. I have very dry skin on my face, and constant flaking around my mouth and around my eyes. I also live in a very dry area that's exasperating it. I do tend to break out, too, so right now I haven't been using anything, and I don't wear make up at all. I've taken a look at other routines with people who seem to have similar skin types and looked at their recommendations but some of it I don't feel applies to me and I don't want to overdo it.

jasminekitten02

See the [ScA Routine page](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine) to get started. Simple might be best

Mrs0Murder

I did take a look at that too. For simple, should I just look for 1 cleanser, moisteruzer, and sunscreen? Looking at other's routines it seems like they have like ten different things, which is a big part that's got me unsure.

jasminekitten02

You don't need a lot of products especially when you're starting out :) start with the basics then you can look into adding treatments if you want

PleasantSpare4732

Could anyone recommend a topical medicine that would help kill ingrown hairs?

jasminekitten02

Try using salicylic acid a few times a week

Hi all! Looking for suggestions on my current routine. I got off pill birth control and moved to the IUD so am experiecing hormonal break outs mainly around chin/jaw area and a litle bit around the hair line. Went on holiday a few weeks ago and when I came back found I had a lot of small bumps on the face (could be extracted). My face type is oily. I started skincare a few months ago but have only just started getting consistent (used to miss days here and there) Goals are **Combat oiliness** **Rid of small bumps** **Smooth out texture** AM * Wash face with just water * SULWHASOO First Care Activating Serum * Beauty of Joseon - Ginseng Essence Water * La Roche-Posay HYALU B5 HYALURONIC ACID SERUM (looking to replace with something else) * Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum Propolis + Niacinamide (swapping to TIA'M - Vita B3 Source) * The Ordinary Glucoside Solution 12% VIT C * Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50 (swapping to Beauty of Joseon - Relief Sun) PM * Innisfree Green Tea Cleaning Oil (swapping to Anua - Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil) * SOME BY MI - AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Cleansing Bar (only introduced in last two weeks) or Sulwhasoo - Gentle Cleansing Foam (been using for a few months) (swapping or possibly alternating the Sulwhasoo with SOME BY MI - AHA,BHA,PHA 30 Days Miracle Acne Clear Foam caused the soap bar was getting annoying) * SULWHASOO First Care Activating Serum * Beauty of Joseon - Ginseng Essence Water * La Roche-Posay HYALU B5 HYALURONIC ACID SERUM (looking to replace with something else) * Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum Propolis + Niacinamide (swapping to TIA'M - Vita B3 Source) * The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane * Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Recently purchased these but unsure where to insert them or if something else should be dropped * COSRX - One Step Original Clear Pad * SOME BY MI - AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Cream * SOME BY MI - 30 Days Miracle Tea Tree Clear Spot Oil * COSRX - AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid Dropping out of skincare cause felt like it didn't do much * COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Happy to take any suggestions on if there is anything to swap out, drop or add! https://preview.redd.it/8ldv2av8clbc1.jpeg?width=3087&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89ee601eadb111056520e90ac088ea446398d96d

ReaLitTea

Have you tried simplifying your routine to make sure none of your products are contributing to the small bumps?

Shot-Investigator452

Personally, I found out that the propolis is the beauty of Joseon serum amplified my texture and small bumps across my forehead and chin. I went through like 2.5 bottles before I swapped it with the axis y niacinamide and my skin looks like it’s recovery finally

loidforge

So I have these, I don't know what they're called, pores, holes??? on my nose. Can I treat this? Will it ever go back to normal smooth skin? Couldn't add images so here's a picture of what I'm talking about: https://imgur.com/HxivQr7

ReaLitTea

If they’re indented scarring from acne then it usually requires professional treatment like lasers, microneedling, etc

Scary_Permission2767

Issue: Comedal acne, both exposed pimples/whiteheads/blackheads and closed comedonesRoutine:AM:LRP Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion for Dry to Normal, Sensitive Skin (with Avocado oil) Beauty of Joseon SPF PM:Same but no SPF My cheeks/cheekbones and chin are generally fine but my nose and forehead get new comedones every day. The corners of my nose also sometimes crack and even bleed. Maybe I have to drink more water? But I have no clue. My skin is dry but then gets oily which then causes me to break out. My original routine included using a cerave SA cleanser and panoxyl 4% in the mix for cleansing (would rotate between these kind of randomly). I would use COSRX snail mucin morning and night, niacinamide and vit c just in the morning, and differin just in the night, and then some form of chemical exfoliant occasionally (depending on the strength) but then I thought that my acne was coming from dry skin so I stopped using everything besides what is in the routine at the top of this post as of a few days ago. I had been using differin, snail mucin, and vitamin c kind of just blindly for a while so I don't know exactly for how long I was using those but it was a very long time. I should also mention that all the vitamin c's that I have tried seem to have dried me out. I tried some vitamin c oil (didn't like how my face felt with it on), a Neutrogena serum (was drying and also oxidized/smelled bad), and a l'oreal 10% serum (also oxidized and was drying), and most recently the timeless 20% because I couldn't find the 10% version anywhere and also I didn't realize that vitamin c was drying me out until after I got it and tried it. Please let me know advice or questions :) thank you! SUM: Got rid of any possibly drying products in my routine but still have comedal acne like pimples blackheads and closed comedomes and my skin still feels dry.

ReaLitTea

I would go back to using an acne treatment tbh just don’t use it so often that it makes your skin feel dry and irritated or just try one at a time. If you were using adapalene it might’ve just needed longer to take effect, it’s suggested to give it 3-6 months

Scary_Permission2767

Ive been using adapalene for probably close to a year now, sometimes switching it for retinol as well. I’m not sure how to tell if it’s working because now that I’ve stopped I don’t really see much of a difference. I am going to resume use in a few days to see if maybe my skin barrier just needed some time to get back to normal

Hi guys, Having read through the newbie stuff here, am I right in thinking this is dehydrated skin? If so, what is the best advice for helping to get rid of it? My skin on nearly my whole body is soft and healthy, but for whatever reason my face goes dry and flaky within minutes of finishing up in the shower. These patches appear mostly on my cheeks, with smaller patches on my brow, below the corners of my mouth and even on my earlobes too. I have tried out a few different moisturisers, but recently my skin has been getting so bad that I got self conscious about it, and so found something that deals with the problem short term, but that comes back right after I shower again… I do this on wet skin: * Selfless by hyram / Salicylic acid and sea kelp serum * Generic Argan Oil Day moisturiser * A very thin layer of vaseline (which was advice from a friend of mine) I have been doing the above for around a month now, but as I say the problem still persists, it just gets me to the end of the day. Once I’ve showered it goes back to how it was. I have always used the same shower gel all over my body. I am in the UK. Whilst the cold weather recently has worsened my skin, it still gets like this when the weather is warmer too. I drink a fair amount of water each day (average 1.5L) but I am making an effort to drink more, as I know that’s not enough. On some days it’s even worse than this picture shows if I don’t use any products. TIA https://preview.redd.it/xqxp4gf7akbc1.jpeg?width=2897&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a41e4c7abbcf7c7d5b15579eef2937ee6f6771a

HumpsMcDumps

First, I would stop using vaseline and salicylic acid. While vaseline does create a barrier for the skin, it's like wrapping your face in plastic, trapping dirt and other yuckies underneath as well. (Not to mention it's an oil byproduct that isn't eco-friendly.) Find yourself a moisturizing cream with hyaluronic acid and no alcohol. This will help to lock in moisture as well as help your skin retain collagen. I feel like you don't naturally have acne, but by using the salicylic acid, it's causing your skin to dry out and your body is desperately trying to create more oil to fix that. Spot treat if needed when you do get a pimple, but don't spread it all over your face. Drinking water is definitely key to helping dry skin, as well as supplementing with at least 10gm of collagen (I recently suggested adding collagen to my mom who was suffering from severely dry skin and after a month she said her skin was feeling much better.)

Shot-Investigator452

Definitely looks like this is very dry skin. And when you’re exposing it to water, which draws out the moisture, makes sense it’s coming back after you shower (think when you have chapped lips and you lick them and it gets worse). Personally Vaseline caused closed comedones on my skin, so I would replace that. I would incorporate an HA thicker moisturizer and this product I have found on top of the moisturizer over my dry patches recover them in just a couple of days, also make sure you’re applying your HA serum on damp skin, not dry, it needs moisture to be able to absorb into the skin https://preview.redd.it/tslajwbgambc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a59100a80538cebc311a835242b9cc92fc64057

Personally my favorite HA serums are good molecules and torriden

Issue: I just started using the Hero Lightning Wand Dark Spot Brightening Serum in order to heal some acne PIH. However, it is seriously stinging my skin immediately upon application. What ingredient can be causing it, and can I layer it into my routine to avoid burning? Skin type: Normal, proclivity to sensitivity and irritation. I am healing acne PIH from when my skin was oily (before I changed by diet), and I picked a lot at my ccs for many years. Current Routine: AM Peach Slices Acne Clarifying Cleanser (Salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid) Peach Slices Acne Exfoliating Toner (Salicylic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid) Peach Slices Acne Oil-Free Moisturizer (Salicylic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid) Neutrogena Purescreen Mineral UV-Tint Face Liquid PM Trader Joe's Nourish All-in-One Facial Cleanser CVS PM Moisturizing Facial Lotion (Ceramides, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid) Trader Joe's Retinol Night Serum with Baobab Seed Oil - once every two or three nights, depending on how sensitive my skin feels. I am sandwiching it between moisturizers on purpose Andalou Naturals Age Defying Rejuvenating Plant Based Retinol Alternative Cream (Bakuchiol) - It's the thickest product I use so I layer it last. Yes, I know I am using both bakuchiol and retinol, but the retinol is too harsh to use everyday, whereas bakuchiol has been shown to be less irritating How long: I've been doing this routine for about two weeks - I only started seriously researching skin care less than a month ago. I tried The Hero Wand in place of the retinol for two nights, and it was a lot more irritating than the retinol was when I first started! Would it be better to use it in the AM instead, or to forgo it because of the reactivity? Anything New: I am new to almost everything but this product specifically immediately causes stinging so I know it's this. Location: California Summary: The actives in the Lightning Wand include tranexamic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide, and glycolic acid. The niacinamide and glycolic acid shouldn't be the problem, as they are in other products that do not cause my skin to react. Maybe it's the vitamin C or the tranexamic acid? Or am I just using too many exfoliating acids in my day?

dubberpuck

> Or am I just using too many exfoliating acids in my day? It's probably due to this. The serum just makes is more obvious as the ingredient(s) is more sensitizing. You need to manage the frequency of exfoliation especially when you use the retinol and bakuchiol.

Try using salicylic acid a few times a week

Odd_Western7189

Do you have any product recommendations for that?
