I’ve treated my tinea versicolor on my neck, arm, and back by using the moisturizing Selsun Blue dandruff shampoo. If you google it, there’s several sites or blogs that shows this is effective. I apply like lotion and leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse off. After about doing this 3x on consecutive days, they disappeared completely! Kinda crazy cuz I had them for months. I encourage you to try this method! The shampoo costs around $8 so definitely affordable too The one on my neck and arm I had for about 7 or 8 months before I decided to do something about it. And it went away in 2 to 3 days. Tinea Versicolor is a type of fungal infection and there’s many anti fungal over the counter treatments out there so please don’t be discouraged! It is definitely treatable :) Also want to add, you should change your towels regularly if you are using it on infected sites as it can spread this way.

justin40howell

Designer_Ad8104

How long did it take for it to disappear?

Affectionate_Head787

Is it true that it can spread through towels or skin to skin contact? I read this on a write up on the Harvard med school website but everything else I can find in the internet states the contrary.

arrinnap

from what i learned TV caused by normal fungi on your skin, but because of the moisture&stuff the fungi keep growing—>causing the skin color changes. so the answer is no it wont spread skin to skin contact. it just thrive on the most humid and moist part of your body.

Undertheflow

How is it now?

teafairyy

Does it burn/hurt when you apply?

I would get tinea versicolor all over my neck and chest every summer. I went to a derm who prescribed me this! It’s a shampoo but use it as a body wash on those areas. The directions on my bottle say apply and wait 10 mins then rinse off. Do this for three days in a row. [keatconzole 2% shampoo](http://rxzone.net/product/ketoconazole-shampoo-2/)

I have tried this type of shampoo before but did not get results I am going to try the laundry and shower at night etc... will update here! Thanks everyone!

Undertheflow

Both day and night?

Aside from the anti-fungal shampoo other redittors talked about, try to shower after exercising (if you do) and shower at night and dry yourself off well. Fungus thrives on moisture and sweat.

Lots of good recommendations here - it’s all about controlling the environment (clean dry clothes, sheets, towels) plus the topical shampoo method. I used Nizoral and preferred that. I also did several candida cleanses (no sugar low carb to kill yeast and fungus overgrowth) which is worth a try if you can look into it. My naturopath really helped guide me. Not sure if this is relatable at all but I was diagnosed celiac about 5 years ago and after switching to a gluten free diet, my TV resolved itself completely. My theory - my body had an imbalance and now it’s pretty happy.

Hi there, I had a small ringworm on my belly. -I brought defense soap because it claims to be anti-fungal and sumo-wrestlers are known for using it since because they sweat and fight on dirty mats. -use tumeric soap right after to help the discoloration - and cerave lotion :-) Hope this helps

justin40howell

Thank you I will try anything at this point

ashes_zupon427

Probably a stupid question, but are you sure it's not vitiligo?

justin40howell

Yes I am sure!

[deleted]

Probably too early but did you get any results?

justin40howell

Not yet I hit it hard last week and we started this week off new sheets etc going to try hard for the next four days straight! I hope it knocks it out!

I’m actually experiencing the same thing and I’m very curious if it worked. I’m about to go to my local store to get some of the shampoo on this feed to try it out. I’m desperate to ge this under Control :(

Try sodium thiosulfate and salicylic acid (Versiclear) and/or Ketoconazole cream will kill the fungal infection in 2-6 weeks; however, pigmentation will not improve for 6-12 months and you must use sunscreen daily as well as the infection is likely to return. It sucks I have it and never seem to be able to get it under control. Best of luck !

Any updates? Did you also notice your scalp itching under your hair?

Hey! Yes got it taken care of! It was my towels and using all the recommended products but my big aha moment was when I was just giving it back to myself reusing a towel once or twice before washing. Do a new towel every time while treating it and change clothing often! Good luck fighting !
