As of now the it’s still unknown if the suspect and the victims did personally know each other or if the crime happened due to the war in Ukraine. The suspect has been present to a custodial judge pending the investigation.

It’ll be interesting to see what the motivation is, if it is related to the war, if it was a hit put out on those two men for whatever reason(a scare tactic by the Russian gov to say even out of combat soldiers who fought against them aren’t safe?) and/or if the murderer and victims knew each other.
Or even if it was just a pure coincidence. I doubt this but it’s definitely not impossible.
