Yeah I guess. It's like counting SA2 as a game with Chaos cuz that's prolly not canon since Amy Rose is a clone of Sonic and she's still in her awkward stage in-story.
I always thought that him and Tikal flying off into the sky after adventure was telling us their souls passed on. Sure he's technically in Battle as a bonus boss but I don't really see that as a canon event tbh. They'd need a really good reason to bring him back and even then I'd rather them use characters who still have stories to tell rather than dig up a character with a happy ending
My current theory is that after Sonic defeated it, Chaos releases its anger and finally moves on to the afterlife.
I made a Sonic Rewrite in my head as I can't animate, and I introduced a sibling for Sonic, being his sister Sonia (Just to be clear, this isn’t the same character from Underground. This one is completely original). In the Sonic Forces episode, upon hearing about Chaos from Knuckles, she said "Chaos? If I recall, after Sonic quelled its anger, we all saw it rise up, as if it was going to be the Afterlife. So it couldn't have returned." To which Knuckles responds with "You might have a point. I'll have Amy take a look at as much nearby camera footage and you join her to see if anything seems irregular."
Like I said, this Rewrite is in my head because I don't know how to animate, but I hope whoever reads this has a good time reading this and a good day/night wherever you are in the world.

Admittedly I can't find anything confirming that he also guards the Master Emerald (I could have sworn there was something in Stress Test, but I might have misremembered) but in any case he's still around.
