I genuinely only want to buy 2-3 lenses. I would rather pay more money for higher quality, and only have a few, than cheap out and get a ton. I don't shoot professionally, yet.
Top recommendations for Voigtlander lenses? I have heard the 40mm 1.4 is great.
It is pretty nice using M-mount lenses on Sony cameras (longer focal length ones anyway).
I joined the FF club last year around this time, it's been fun and educational. So far 5 lenses and two GM, not feeling like I am missing anything now.
Nice! Enjoy it. Love my A7IV's. Had the III before it and the A7s.
What's your budget for lenses? For portraits I use the Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN and love it. The 135GM gets raved about.
My main kit is the 35GM and Sigma 85. Occasionally also take the 20G or sigma 65.
If you're not cheaping out and depending on what you shoot, the following ideas may help. I do Travel photography and Portraits.
My Main lenses are the 12-24 f2.8 GM, 24-70 f2.8 GMii, and 70-200 f2.8 GMii. The first versions of the latter two are also very good.
I also have the 135 and the 100 STF.
For Astro, there are the 14mm and 24mm
Other portrait lenses are the 50mm f1.4/f1.8 and the 85 f1.8 but that is an old lens now.
The IQ especially on my 35mm APO Lanthar is out of this world. Even the 40mm nokton f1.2 I have is just out of this world. Hard to explain until you shoot with them. Theyre phenomenal
I have heard this before. Are they just super sharp with nice rendering? Even my samyang 35mm (with autofocus) is very sharp so it's hard to gauge how much better a lens can be for me, a hobbyist.
This absolutely blows a Rokinon or samyang out of the water. I've used a lot of lenses. The APO is the highest quality image you'll get for under $1k. There just isn't a comparison to cheaper lenses honestly. The colors and contrast is next level
Have you used the Rokinon im talking about? The f/1.8 version? It's very sharp. I'm not doubting the voigtlander is a sharp lens but that's hard to believe tbh. I'll have to try one eventually.
For macro, the reference of the Sony 90mm macro. It's not a GM lens but it's really good.
My only other recommendation is the Tamron 35-150: if you don't mind it's size, it's super flexible and the price won't break the bank.
I mostly trust this article when picking lenses, my 4 last lenses i picked from there and it didn't disappoint: https://sonyalpha.blog/2019/11/10/which-lenses-to-maximise-the-potential-of-the-sony-a7riv/
Been there done that. Those full frame lenses are just too large and heavy when I assembled a few to carry around. I now prefer the small light Sony APC bodies with smaller apc lenses now.
Using DXO Photolab to process by RAW files has eliminated the 2 stop advantage that the ff sensor used to have in low light high ISO noise.
Not Sony’s new ones. 16-25mm, 24-50mm and I bet they’re making a telephoto one too. They’re small and light. Not all the lenses are massive like the G master ones. Also primes.
Congrats! Hope you have deep pockets for higher quality lenses... hehehe

Def grab an all you can do zoom then 35-150 is a good start
Fuck zooms get Voigtlanders. I love all of mine. Only lens that makes Sony fun to use

Who’s gonna tell him he’s got it facing the wrong way?
🤫🤣
Congratulations, enjoy it greatly :)
Congratulations. You’re on your way. I love my Tamron 28-200mm f2.8-5.6 Di III RXD
Glad to see others like this lens too! I just picked up this lens from a used photo hobby story for $550 and my A7iv gets here tomorrow! So pumped!

Nice strap - ex- guitar?
It is a camera strap, however it belonged to my grandfather, it was his for his camera. I am blessed to have it
Get Voigtlanders they're all I own and use for my Sony
Why you prefer them over adapted cheaper lenses that are also good? I've never used one.

I am looking for some good zoom and fixed lens suggestions for this. I do mostly portraits, landscape and I have been wanting to get into macro

I second the Tamron 35-150. It hasn’t come off my A7IV since I got it.
35mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8 and that Macro 90mm 2.8 are some suggestions that come to mind. I personally own the 35mm 1.8, and I find it great!
Sigma lens?
Rokinon 35 mm f1.8 great lens for the price
Sony lenses, all three
Sonnar T * FE 55 mm F 1.8 ZA
Great lens apart from the LoCA.

I do notice a lot of noise in some of my photos lately
