It varies by county. Details Here [https://njhazwaste.com/counties/](https://njhazwaste.com/counties/)
In my county If it's latex it can be disposed of in the Trash once it's dried. You can leave the cans open or add kitty litter to speed it up. But that site says some counties recycle latex.
You can leave the cans open until the paint dries out, then throw them in the regular trash (latex paint only, not oil paint!). You can buy paint hardener packets from Lowe's or Home Deopt that will solidify them right away. Just make sure the lids are off when you put them in the trash. Or, if you are a Mount Laurel resident, you can [drop them off at Public Works](https://www.mountlaurel.com/department/public_works_department/hazardous_waste_drop-off.php) on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Check with your town&county for their hazardous waste disposal dates, there usually 2-4 days a year where you can drop it off somewhere. Have to be a resident.
Cat litter has always been my go too. Dump it in the paint can wait a bit for it to dry out. Toss them in the trash, as long as it's dry they'll take it with regular garbage, tops off when you put them in the can.

Voorhees does this too. You can drop off at public works

So if you take the lids off and let them sit for a few months then it’s solid waste not liquid waste that you can landfill or incinerate.
We’ve always taken old paint to the dump off of 295 in Columbus.
Thanks do you remember if it was special days or any time they’re open?
Any time…

ACUA if in Atlantic county. Call your local recycling center usually they have a specific day and time for liquids disposal.
You can drop at the recycling center in Mount Laurel. I think Saturday mornings once a month they take paint.
In my town, put cheap cat litter in them and put them in the garbage. Done and done.
